Thank you for not adding music. That makes your video sooo much easier for those of us that have hearing issues!! You were clear and easy to understand. Well done , I am looking forward to zeroing in my new Henry Golden Boy 22.

I hate it when people put background music in their video playing over the person talking - absolute misery. It might be marginally tolerable if they would control and balance the sound levels, but when they do, if they do, it is most often done wrong. Plus it brings up Copyright issues, which could get the video taken down or demonetized. Really, no point in it at all.

One trick I learned with small adjustments in windage is to draw a small witness mark on the sight and onto the barrel. That way you can tell how much you've moved the sight. That way if you move too much or too little you're not chasing the drift so to speak on your windage adjustment. I use a no 2 pencil. You can just erase the mark or wipe it off when you're done.

    • @HenryUSA
      @HenryUSA  8 ปีที่แล้ว +20

Great point! The "arrow" point at the front of the sight makes it easy to place a pencil mark where the sight was before moving.

I used a finely sharpened white machinist pencil - old eyes. Easily cleans up with a wipe.

I wish Henry would make another video explaining the sight picture of semi-buckhorn sights and how to zero with the bead in the plate groove for your closest range and how to use the stem and base of the front sight with the rear buckhorn in different positions to shoot further distances. I had to do a lot of digging and get advice from a friend to find that out.
It would also be a good tip to note the plate in the rear sight can be loosened at its set screw and raised or lowered to make fine adjustments and/or help to raise or lower your point of impact when the ramp is maxed out in either direction.
I think that would help a lot of people to understand these types of sights that are standard on Henry's great rifles and getting that info straight from the Henry TH-cam page would be even better.

this comment was more helpful than the video. at about 10-15 yards with the ramp maxed out to close range i still hit about 3 inches high. ive really gotta get the bead in the gutter and hold 6 o clock to even hit a steel plate.

I think my next purchase will be a Henry Frontier .22 octagonal barrel(H001T). Thanks I was curious as to the proper way to adjust them. I've never been a fan of this sight system. Its pretty much guess work with no real precision adjustments. I suppose though for the design at the time it sufficed. I have a few lever actions and they are mostly spot on from the factory. I've always just done some "Kentucky windage" to correct. I've noticed some newer lever actions are moving to a ghost ring configuration which, in my opinion, is a fantastic move. Thanks again, cheers.

Mr. 22 Plinkster, if your 22 lr golden boy rear buckhorn sight is at the bottom of the ramp and still shooting high it would seem the only alternatives would be 1) Replace the front dovetail with a taller sight to brink it down; 2) install the HIVIZ® LITEWAVE® Henry Adjustable Rifle Sight Set HHVS450 for the H004 model golden boy replacing the buckhorn and front sight 3) Consider doing what is needed to install other sights such as Skinner sights including the front sight as needed.....Does this sound about right? I have a new 44 magnum big boy steel. And I have to say from the comments on this video and my own experience, I don’t think they are sighting these guns at all at the factory. Mine was so far off when I got it straight out of the box that if it was sighted in, It must’ve been zeroed by the elephant man. I honestly think that they are just installing the Buckhorn sights, and test firing it without really considering whether the sights are zeroed or not.

I had to take the adjustment completely out of the back sight to get it to hit dead on at 100 yds. And it wasn’t just me, it shot high for everyone that tried it. Granted it put all shots in just about the same hole, they’d just be high right. Shoots fine now though

I like the screw to release some tension before you hit the sight. A lot of guns take a hit from Thor's hammer to move and small adjustments are next to impossible.
Now, if my Henry rifle actually worked instead of coming from the factory with faulty parts, that'd be great. $850 for a gun that doesn't work.

I line the round tip of the front post up with the small notch in the bottom, and zero that at 100 yards (with a 30-30). It gives you the most precise sight picture that way, and gives you a little bit of room for holdover.

What distance did you work with for your .45-70?

I live in forested Mountains. I am zeroed at 50 yards but have targeted 100 yards just in case I get lucky with some clear ground.

My Big Boy Steel .357 has a few dents in the wood from me not paying attention like you mentioned at the end. Not too bad though, just something to show the grandkids an example of why you need to take your time! LOL

I cant find a place where the site picture for buckhorn is drawn/diagramed in such a way that I can follow. one respondent posted he cant figure his elevation. My guess is he has the same problem I do. Is the ivory dot on the front site in the crotch of the rear buckhorn or is it center with the top of the rear site?

Whew... I thought you were at 50 yards and I thought.. Geez, I thought I was a better shot but I almost never touch holes at 50 yards with buckhorns. Glad you said 50 ft :)

I've been curious about these sights. Hope I can order a gun with these and have some fun with it. My 001 I'm pleased with it but I'll have to splurge on a silver boy.

"You could dent the edge of your rifle..." You don't want to see my Henry .22 I got when I was 9 year old. Still have it, still one of my favorites, still getting squirrels, and looks like hell. I was not kind to it as a kid. ;)

i would suggest to put a piece of tape in front of the rear sight and mark the center with a pencil as a reference before moving it left or right
