    Nice work Ross. Beautiful looking water too. I must head there one day.

      You should! It doesn't have a lot of public access, but the trout population is healthy and it's a lot of fun to fish.

    Those little Bullet lures look like a modernised Baltic Minnow. Brilliant design and colours.

      They are excellent lures for casting in streams like the Tumut and smaller creeks. They cast exceptionally well for a small lure and you're right, their profile is very similar to the old Baltics.

      It's a pleasure to fish in the autumn, Michale. Back in the early 70's it had the best summer hatches and rises I've ever seen.

      Beautiful stream, Darren. Easy to fish with current flows and only 2 hours up the highway. Take a trip mate!

    Hey mate
    I'm an absolute novice but I'm staying at a tiny house with access to goobarragandra river. Got a kmart rod and some worms but no luck on day one. I can see the bloody trout jumping outta the river. How do I catch the buggers?

    • @FishtalkVideo
      @FishtalkVideo  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey buddy, the Goobarragandra is a beautiful stream that fishes better in the upper reaches rather than near the junction with the Tumut river. The lower reaches contain a population of carp, which may be the fish you are seeing. Perhaps try some small soft plastics on a lead head jig and work them through the pools, or maybe minnow style hard bodies. You are lucky to have access, as much of the Goobra flows through private property with no public access.

      @@renegadecampervan5017 certainly could be trout, but if they appear to be more than 50-60cm long they may well be carp.

      I've always loved it. Back in the early 70's the evening rises during summer were sensational. The water would boil.

    wow what a beautiful place to fish, they were a couple of nice rainbows too.
    what is the weight of the 3cm bullet lure that you used, would that catch redfin do you think.
    another great vid, Cheers.

    • @FishtalkVideo
      @FishtalkVideo  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The 3cm Bullets weigh about 4 grams. They cast brilliantly, I can get better distance with the 3cm model than the 5cm model, probably less resistance through the air. They are an excellent lure on redfin as well. Key is to fish light with your line.

    G'day often thought about changing my lures to a single hook set up.
    Do you find your hook up rate the same as if you use treble hooks?

    • @FishtalkVideo
      @FishtalkVideo  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I've been a big fan of single hooks for a long time, most of my lures have singles. For me the biggest plus is releasing, far less damage to the fish's mouth, and I think the hook up rate is pretty much on par.

    What dates does the river level drop?

    • @FishtalkVideo

      Don't know to be honest, it's subject to down stream irrigation demands I believe.

    How do you fish it when it's flowing high?

    • @FishtalkVideo
      @FishtalkVideo  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is difficult, but need to stick to backwaters and also fish along the edge of the current with heavy lures.

    • @elvinsmatthew
      @elvinsmatthew 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@FishtalkVideo I've never caught trout. They are high on the list. But will probably be fishing the river with a heavy flow so not sure what to do.

    Another beaut day out Ross. Nice fish, too! We'll be in Tumut in a week or two. Ordered a new fly rod in the local shop there yesterday. Trying to keep up with the Water Rat, he's been flogging me since he took up the fly - not bad for 12yrs old! Did you know the guides are running red hot all summer on the Tumut with raft drift fly fishing? Crystal clear footage, thanks for the outing. Cheers PP

      It's such a great spot, two vastly different lakes with different target species, a pondage and magnificent rivers, all within an hour of the town. The caravan park is also 2nd to none. I've been going there for more than 50 years and I still love it.
