To further add to this; soldiers that are deployed to combat are allowed to wear the patch of a unit they get attached to on the right shoulder beneath the US flag. For example, if Specialist Langley here was sent to Iraq and was attached to the 4th Infantry Division, he would subsequently be authorized to wear the 4ID patch on his right shoulder. This is known as the Shoulder Sleeve Insignia-Former Wartime Service, or "Combat Patch" for short.

The best way I was taught, then passed on to all my 'E-Nothings,' as follows: Always remember your pledge!
    - U.S. Army patch - You're right hand always goes on the left side of your chest (symbolic heart). US Army patch + heart = pledge (poetic as sheet)
    - U.S. Flag - (again the pledge) - You're right hand touches the US Army patch, connecting the U.S. flag and the Army (yo, someone call up my recruiter, so I can re-up)
Note: You know your U.S. flag patch is on the wrong shoulder if the strip's side is blowing against the wind; like reality.
You may not believe it, but the Army does make some sense from time to time.
    Now for the other patches:
    - Deployment patch: Always under the US flag patch. Think of it as the patch that Uncle Sam wanted you to wear in the first place (meaning, recruited for Downrange, not rear D).
    - Everything else - if you can't figure the rest out, you must be a Blue Falcon.
    Pass on the knowledge,
    Ross

Dang !! I had to measure and see my patches, then with a sharpie, or flat black paint cover up the wear on my rank and belt buckle. Great video. 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼 Thank You for your Service 🇺🇸🇺🇸

There's still some sew-on patches which are worn above the US Army tape, such as the Combat Infantryman Badge, Combat Action Badge, or Air Assault Badge, for example. Also when these patches are sewn on, the tapes and rank should also be replaced with sewn on versions to match. Also some soldiers go with sewn on versions anyhow to keep them from getting yanked off and lost.

this was very interesting to know even if I'm neither in the army nor Ameican xD. A question comes up tho, does the same logic apply to patches on a plate carrier?

My patches on my uniform doesn’t stick to the Velcro. I finally got my NameTapes sewn on which was probably the best thing I could do, but my patches on my sleeves still don’t stick very well, and especially my American flag patch is constantly falling off. And even with my brand new set of OCP’s with brand new Velcro the patches fall off easily. Do yo have any advice to help them stick better?

Probably the velcro on the patches themselves.
