    TRUTH & LIES
A fresh, insightful guide to reading body language in the post-digital age.
Take a look at the book here: amzn.to/3cN2Q4Z
“A thoughtful and remarkable book, by two thoughtful and remarkable people. This year’s must-read on nonverbal communications and human behavior.” (Joe Navarro, former FBI counterintelligence agent and author of the international bestseller What Every BODY Is Saying)
Whether you’re at a job interview or a cocktail party, searching LinkedIn or swiping right on a dating site, you want (no-need) to understand what people are really thinking, regardless of what they’re saying. Understanding what others are trying to tell you with their posture, hand gestures, eye contact (or lack thereof) or incessant fiddling with their iPhone might all be even more important than what you’re projecting yourself. Do they plan on making a deal with your company? Are they lying to you? Can you trust this person with your most intimate secrets? Knowing what others are thinking can tell you when to run with an opportunity and when not to waste your time, whether at work, in a crucial negotiation or on a promising first date.
Bestselling authors Mark Bowden and Tracey Thomson, principals at the communications company Truthplane, illustrate the essential points of body language with examples from everyday life, leavened with humour and insights that you can use to your advantage in virtually any situation.
“Truth and Lies is brilliant. If you’d like to learn the truth about who will have your back or if your kids are in safe hands or if your neighbor, boyfriend, best friend, or boss is keeping a secret from you, then read this book.” (Janine Driver, lie detection expert for the CIA and New York Times-bestselling author of You Say More Than You Think)
“Truth and Lies is a wonderful guide to learning how to know what people are really thinking.”
(Vanessa Van Edwards, bestselling author of Captivate: The Science of Succeeding with People)
“Mark Bowden and Tracey Thomson give us a front row seat to understanding nonverbal communication and human behavior. Truth and Lies shows us how to come off autopilot and get it right each and every time.” (Tonya Reiman, behavioral analyst, author of The Body Language of Dating)
“The cluttered space of body language clickbait continues to grow, but Truth and Lies clears a path to clarity and focus.” (Scott Rouse, body language analyst and military interrogation trainer)
“A masterwork life-coaching manual. With advice from other leading experts in nonverbal behavior, Mark Bowden and Tracey Thomson bring you a rounded view and new system for how to understand and use body language in a wide variety of life situations.” (Greg Hartley, former US Army interrogator and human behavior consultant)
A fresh, insightful, myth-busting guide to reading body language in the post-digital age
Whether you’re at a job interview or an after-party, searching LinkedIn or swiping right on a dating site, you will want (no, need!) to understand what people are really thinking, regardless of what they’re saying. How certain are you from their handshake that it’s a done deal? Can you be so sure they’re lying to you? Should you risk trusting them with your most intimate secrets-or even your life?
Unlocking your ability to better understand others’ feelings toward you and predict their intentions will help you know when to run with a real opportunity and when to back away from certain harm. Stop wasting your time expecting the worst or hoping for the best-at work, in a crucial negotiation or on a promising first date-by using this new system of understanding nonverbal behavior.
Bestselling author Mark Bowden, with co-author Tracey Thomson-both principals at the communications company TRUTHPLANE-illustrate the essential points of body language in key situations with examples from everyday life, leavened with humor and insights that you can use to your advantage in virtually any situation.
Mark Bowden is a member of The Behavior Panel with Scott Rouse, Greg Hartley and Chase Hughes. In an episode on the Elizabeth Holmes Trial they talk about the nonverbal traits often associated with psychopathy and narcissistic personality disorder.

Whenever I watch and listen to videos with Mark and Tracey, I have to do so at least twice. Once for Mark because his body language captures my eyes, and once for Tracey to ensure I am not missing any part of her message. Together, they are a wonderful team for teaching us about the various forms of language.

And this is why texting and instant messaging are so frustrating. If you can't read the facial features and body language you have no idea of the real substance that person is conveying.

Excellent detailed explanation on this. The 7-38-55 myth is hard to die as it's quite commonly quoted from trainers all over the world. I did it myself in the early days! Everyone likes a nice formula to apply to everything, right? :) Now I preach the 3Vs - verbal, vocal, visual modalities of communication. Much more flexible! :) Thanks for another great video.

The "7-38-55" myth would die if people simply used their brains. Just thinking about it shows that it's not true.

You know, when teaching English as a foreign language, we spend a lot of time on intonation as being the primary source of meaning in any sentence.
