Two really lovely people! I used to keep my boat down there and Sheila would bring us eggs and whiskey marmalade. Happy days. Don't miss the walk down there mind. Local boats catching fish in a sustainable way. Proper. Two of the nicest people on the river.
What a neat couple. I hope they are still at it. Hope they thin the Mullet out a bit to help the smolts and eggs prosper. We need more people like this.
I miss this so much... Mr Cox of Appledore is me uncle.... First went salmon fishing aged 3 with me grandad.. Happy days sadly missed :(.... The only thing I don't miss is the Hinks coal House draught! Net was a pig to pull in!
I used to net fish on the River Dart near Stoke Gabriel , with my uncle and father and cousin , back in the 70's when you could make good money, 14 hour day in the summer months , no licences any more, just memories .
Love these dying crafts, I don't suppose they put a dent in the salmon population. I'm a rod fisherman and don't mind these at all it's the commercial fisheries that do the damage.
What a lovely old couple having a nice day out not doing any harm to anybody....the few salmon these people catch these days isn't going to damage the stocks on any river and they are well entitled to their few fish.
I was one of these people but no more because of over fishing and pollution . now no salmon left in river Dee UK so if you see this and fishing look after them because when they go they don't come back.
The reason there's none left is cause 37 people netting and used to catch 300 and then they ask why there's so little left and why the fishing season is shorter lmao
I'm afraid it's not as simple as that. There is high mortality at sea, and there is such pollution in our rivers now. It isn't the fishing that's the problem, but if you ban it you lose the knowledge. It should continue as a source of food. But small traditional fishermen are an easy target for regulatory bodies to act against and make it look as if they're doing something. Whereas the real issues don't get dealt with. The fishing hasn't changed in centuries - the other issues have, and that's what's affecting the salmon stocks.
They dont make any money, the few fish they catch, they are welcome to them. You just sound bitter. Stop worrying about a couple of 80 year olds enjoying their last few years
Beautiful. A real breath of fresh air.

Rookie mistake

Is he really your grandad?

You are mistaken, fish stocks started declining when measures were put in place to protect seals, goosanders, merganser and cormorants.
Seals are the main culprits
“Years ago I took 300” - and they wonder why the fishing is so poor. You reap what you sow
Should be banned , there’s a simple reason why there’s no salmon if you can’t figure that out ? If they can’t get up stream to spawn .

Won’t see that kind shortly pity

Must have stopped this by now. Rodcand line only these days.
Trawling should be banned too
quicker it disappears the better. Wouldn't be allowed if they were killing other endangered creatures like elephants!!
