    A music video about commercial fishing salmon with a drift gillnet on the Yukon River in Alaska. Salmon fishing in Alaska is the true Deadliest Catch with more deaths each year than crab fishing in the Bering Sea.

    I'm a fisherman myself but have to ask, do you follow some kind of limit or just catch as many as you can? We keep hearing about how many salmon runs are in trouble and from the looks of your method of fishing no wonder. Kind of reminds my of the loggers who have decimated the forest and then gripe about no trees!

      So salmon gillnetting is strictly regulated in Alaska. Because of this Alaska has very strong salmon returns. Gillnetting is regulated by how much fish makes it passed the upriver wier to spawn. They always make sure there isnt too much to spawn and not too little. When theres too much opener periods open from 12-36hrs, if not enough fish then it stays closed. Hope that clears it up. Also only certain people who have permits can fish. Its like buying into a small business.

    We can use 50 fathoms of net. Since its a commercial fishery, their is no limit on fish. There is a time limit we can fish, just a few hours every couple of days. Its a sustainable fishery. All the salmon will die anyway, after they spawn, and all new fish come the next year.

    • @NativeVision4
      @NativeVision4 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The salmon you are keeping have not spawned yet, you are decimating the fish. This is why the salmon runs are becoming depleted and eventually they will be gone forever!

    Are you commercial fisherman concerned about the future of this industry? You do realize that you cheated that river out of millions of salmon in 2-3 years. I'm a tree hugger by the way and love a pristine, healthy environment. I have read and heard recently that the huge "barn door" halibut up in the Alaskan bays are getting very hard to find anymore. Does this concern you fishermen? At what point do you let the stocks rebound (if not too late)?

    Funny how none of the replies recognize the natural and understandable dislike anglers have for ‘netters’. Here in the northeast the commercial fisherman (netters) decimated the fish stocks. There is a little book called “Cod” before you verbally beat up an angler I suggest you read it. What we’ve learned is unabated the fishermen will harvest until it no longer becomes economically feasible. They then will lament publicly “How fishing used to be”. In the end many simply trying to earn a living and/or feed the family through a cold dark winter. Regulation is always warranted.

      Our commercial fishery is regulated to death. Once they get enough to spawn the next generation they let us harvest fish. The fish all are going to die anyway. They cant live in fresh water. So its a whole different situation.We feed the world just like farmers do.

      @@yukonjeffimagery If you don't allow them to spawn then you are decimating the fish population.

      Wrong. We already let million pass to spawn before we can fish commercially.

      You dont know what your talking about. The fishing is highly regulated by very short openings to fish of just a few hours a week. And we dont fish until enough pass to lay eggs for the next years hatch. And every salmon dies after it returns to fresh water, so all the fish you see would die anyway withing a few weeks. You stupid pile of s***t
