    Entire NE belt lies in Zone 5 of Earthquake prone areas. Extracting oils for economic benefits over preserving nature will prove fatal in the long run. I prefer tourism promotion instead of oil extraction. And that will be more sustainable and economically profitable as well.

      Coming from jharkhand and being a tribal..... I can definitely say many people are to be misplaced from their own ancestral lands where they've been living for so long and u will lose ur forests and trees and farmlands even for sure even though setting up extraction plants is good and will definitely bring connectivity and prosperity but in long run it's sure a no good thing for Indigenous ppl like us ....forest disappearing from near my own village, apartments and many roads popping up

      Problem with that approach is that oil basins do not stop at politcial boundaries.
      So that means, northeast shares those oil basins with bangladesh, china, myanmar. If we dont, they will and exhaust the basin.
      It makes more sense to drill it out and invest in storage facilities.

    According to Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas India has total proven oil reserves of 587.3 million metric tons. India's oil consumption during the fiscal year 2020-2021 is 141 million metric tons. At this rate of consumption India has just about three years before every drop of oil runs out. So it is not viable to pump oil in india. That's why india heavily depends and has to depend on oil import.

    • @akshatsingh564
      @akshatsingh564 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      nah bro its not as much as you think, also it will take a lot of investment to set up the infrastructure and nobody wants to invest in fossil fuel now as it is expected to be discarded. India instead is investing in renewables. Also It is not economically viable to get crude in a lot of places due to geography. Sometime the well is too deep or rock is too hard, speacially offshore it is much harder and riskier. India is planning to invest 100 billion in green hydrogen which is very cool. Also europe will completely ban petrol cars by 2035, china, japan, USA will follow very soon and that will make crude very cheap and will be much more logical to just buy it instead of investing so much money and destroying your own county's beauty. If you consider closely the price of oil has not inceased in a decade even though there is so much inflation and there is restriction on countries like iran and venezuella which have some of the biggest reserves. In short lobbying is not the reason.

    With about 1.25 billion cubic metric tonnes of crude oil, isn't that only meet 5 years of India's requirement?
    That should be kept intact for difficult times like wars and sanctions etc. I am not saying, no mining should happen but should be very limited to keep overflowing in check and some economic activity for the regions benefit.

    Hi NE Horizon. Love you videos and the NE culture, but let me point something about this video. Firstly, Oil reserves and recoverable reserves are two different things,,, means oil may be there, but the technology to recover it does not exist presently.
    Second comes the question of commercial viability. If the cost of produced oil is, let's say around $200 per barrel, then are we not better off purchasing oil from international market at $100 per barrel and save our reserves for future?
    This is exactly what USA does. They have large quantities of oil and gas reserves, much larger than India, but they are the second largest oil importers in the world!! Hope this makes sense.

    Dear Sir, this video is really very informative. Thanks to you for making such a video. I am doing research on oil spill detection in NIT Silchar, and for this study, I need some crude oil to conduct an experiment. I have contacted several persons of Oil India Limited and IOCL but they have told there is no such procedure to give crude oil to a student or a researher. If you have any idea about collecting crude oil from these organizations or from any oil field kindly tell me. Regards

    We were offered by the govt to buy the whole mountain because they knew crude oil and many resources were available, due to magnetic interference and many other reason it's a no fly zone for airplanes// local people depends on these mountains to survive therefore. They did not allow them to harvest the oil //as well as to save the forest and the biodiversity but these days due to greed and online education platform it ls likely to be exploited by people with power.

    Setting up oil fields in an insurgency infested state is not feasible since there are lots of underground militants groups ready and will extort money from oil companies operating in their areas. They(militants) will be a hindrance and burden for the oil companies. Besides devastating the surrounding rain forests, there will be little to no benefits for the local populance except for some influential bigshots who are well connected with politicians and underground militants.
    The oil fields would for sure be setup and operational for export or domestic use for India once the government of India resolves the various political demands of some major UG groups whom are running a parallel government in the areas where the oil deposit are explored and founded.
