I love when people create their own solutions. I assume by the use of the 'toy' powerlines that this is just a for fun project, but one thing others should know is that if this was a river and not a pond then this 'dam' would likely collapse due to the water eroding the foundation and on the first storm without any overflow this thing would get destroyed completely by the exesss flow.
Still a cool project, but I had to point that out for people that may be inspired to do something similar but with a more serious implementation.

Now, here's a hands-on demonstration of something that's being talked a lot about but never being shown in any way how it really works. Difference between lecturing and demonstrating is this. I wish more teachers would use a more hands on approach in demonstrating what's being taught and what it's in reality, so that students can comprehend the difference between reality and theory.

We just used taps to spin the blades on an alternator. To show we could make power, as long as you could spin the magnet(s). When did you go to school if you never learnt this? And what country? Just out of curiosity? Take care

If you mortar each end of each brick before placing them the water has less of a chance of eroding the entire dam away. But you are building an awesome project. Keep up the great work, I'm impressed

I’ve always had the vision of doing something like this. But I don’t have the knowledge of how all the components work together. This would surely be a game changer for someone living off grid near a river source.

Actually, as much as I enjoyed this project it's, from an engineering standpoint, highly inefficient. It would be far more efficient to just live within city/town range and enjoy the centuries of refined technology that would deliver you nice cheap/clean power! This is a nasty amount of labor and resources for a small pay-off (views and a handful of very dim LED lights). Leave Mother nature alone as often as you can, and don't exploit her, lest she be a whore to "humanity".

Don't get me wrong, you did a great job. Normally you apply the mortal to all surfaces of the bricks, including the ends of the bricks instead of just bedding them on top and bottom. If you also do the ends it will be stronger and less area for water intrusion and erosion. Even after you have slathered the mortar to cover everything there are weak spots inside your dam because the bricks were not mortared end to end. I meant no criticism, only assistance. You truly did a very nice neat job of it.
Yes, add brick lining on the upstream of your dam, bottom and side wall. Otherwise your dam will collapse very soon caused by water infiltrating through the soil.
Youshould put strong foundation soil never hold strong current of h2O it will last may be a month or sonner it will collapse

If you truly believe that then you've never done any masonry.. And I can tell you from an engineering standpoint that that thing will collapse.. Only a matter of time since it's tied into absolutely nothing. It's basically built to fail but he'll learn and do a job better next time. Also all the electrical components are unprotected.. And becoming soaked with water. How long do you think those will last? I also only saw two half inch lines feeding that pool, which basically means the entire thing is a showpiece, two half inch lines cannot feed that basin quickly enough to keep up with the output.. But it did make for an interesting video.
What a courage this showed me. There is a potential we all have inside in different forms and all we have to do is look inside.

@@Tran-Chien No that would be a perpetual motion machine see: 2nd law of thermodynamics. It is a nice build and fun to watch but it is not able to generate a lot of power.
@@shoestringeng6473 it's just for display so with that flow rate he could funnel the water output to a small hydro generator to power a pump. I've seen generators that work on smaller flows than that.

Please dont be over exaggerating people. Yes, his work is impressive with the limited sources he have and he really deserve the credit. But, u should not belittle other people that had been working hard to become a professional engineered. We should cherish every people work without condemning others too.
This simplicity in the design and the mechanism of the whole process, and people still pay an eye watering electricity bill. This encourages me to build my own system of energizing my house.

What a great garden feature. A possible incremental improvement would be to fit a nozzle to one of the outlets and make a pelton wheel. It would use about one tenth of the water to make the same power.
