@@AntLabGames The theme in Kanban EV works in a really strange way (for us at least). I agree with you that the car theme does nothing for me in a sense. That must be one of the worst themes you can put in a game to attract me. But the theme in the game is so strong in a very elegant way that it totally works for us, even though we don't like cars at all. You should really try to get this new version to the table. I was so pleasently surprised by how the theme worked in my favor, despite it being about cars.
Love your #1. Whenever I play I want to play it again once the first play is done. We recently got another Lacerda game, and when we play it more it may be my new #1. The two you are missing were a surprise! I thought you had them.
The Gallerist is my favourite too - great theme, lovely components, complex but understandable (& thematic) gameplay. I’m looking forward to Weather Machine.
I am like you all Vital Lacerda games dominating 6 of my 7 top games of all time with Gaia Project/Terra Mystica being the only other up there with those Heavy Weights. Here are my rankings: 1.) On Mars 2.) Kanban EV 3 .) Weather Machine 4.) Lisboa 5.) Escape Plan 6.) Vinhos 2010 7.) The Gallarist (Only played three times, you all have inspired me to keep being it out to give it a few more shots.) I am not a fan of Co op games so I have not tried CO2: Second Chance Also, I am in game five of Weather Machine and wondering if it will make it to my second spot. It is sooo satisfying to chain four major actions together in one turn. I think I like the games, with the exception of Kanban EV , that allow you to take more turns than your opponents with good planning.

I agree, I love the Gallerist. It is not the heaviest by a long shot, but it just sings to me and is heaps of fun. You guys need to try Kanban EV...it is so good. Ranking these is tough...all of them are great games. Would be interested to see how you rank Mindclash Games or games by Stefan Feld.

With the exception of The Gallerist I seem to rate them similarly to you - the theme of The Gallerist maybe didn't click with me. The top three can switch around on any given day, as can the bottom four. Haven't played Weather Machine yet but looking at playthroughs I imagine it would be somewhere in the middle. Vital is both mine and my wife's favourite designer and our top ten lists would have at least three of his games in (they would all be top 50). Thanks for your work.

I tried Kanban online once, but have to try it again as I wasn’t ready for that weight of game at the time. My wife and I have and enjoy CO2, even though we don’t win. The one on our list to try next is The Gallerist for sure! Thanks for the great list and suggestions!

The only game I own besides Bot Factory, is the Gallerist. It's a beautifully executed game, with lovely components. Lacerda games are definitely not for the feint of heart, but they are worth it.
The Gallerist is also my favorite. As an Artist who's sold photography to galleries I'd tell you its so informed by the process. I'm preparing to explore Lisboa as I've never played it. I also completely passed on Weather Machine and On Mars. I just didn't like Weather Machine but I am intrigued by On Mars, I just think it's hard to take that game to the groups I play with, heck thats why I don't play the Lacerda's I own. And I am crazy excited about the new one coming supposedly this month. I think it's goign to number 1 for me. For me it would be: 1 The Gallerist (son to be struck down by Inventions) 2. Kanban (also very much the way auto makers work in my experience with Ford, Honda and GM) 3. Vinhos On Mars will probably eventually come into my collection, but CO2 and Escape Plan are a pass for me. And Weather Machine is a hard pass. Lisboa is a strong maybe.

The game hasn’t really changed a lot from the first editions, but it feels like looks and presentation are important to you, as they are for me. I haven’t played the older versions, but the rulebook has a small section with the few changes. I’m currently waiting for the upgraded metal cars and the Upgrade Pack for Kanban EV. They were sent from the US on July 27th or something like that, and they landed in Norway this weekend. Just waiting for the shipment to arrive…

I am a proud owner of the CO2, the Gallerist, Vinhos, Kanban, Lisboa but I don't have Escape Plan and On Mars. I totally agree with you that the Gallerist is Lacerda's best board game. You really feel like a gallerist, the theme is really perfectly implemented. In the second place ranks Lisboa then I would say Kanban, Vinhos and the last, CO2. You're really do a fantastic job giving your highly appreciated comments and reviews to the boardgamer community on this planet. Kanban Drivers Edition was my first Lacerda game and I honestly didn't like it. It was ugly and busy. After playing On Mars and Lisboa and loving them, I went back to Kanban EV and ended up loving it. Kanban EV just feels so different with Ian's art.
I have never played CO2 or Escape Plan, but I can almost guarantee after your comments that Kanban EV (one of my favorite Lacerdas) is one you would like better than either of those.
The gallerist is an amazing game indeed, but Kanban is still the best one for me; and I see it remaining like that for quite a long time. I own a 1st edition copy and prefer that art to the new EV one. I know the board is busier and hard for new players. But EV feels futuristic for what the setting is, due to its colour palette. But I will say the speech bubbles system for meetings is way better than the original sits.
I love Lacerda games and I understand the need to rank them but also apologize for lower ranking games…because they are all excellent. I usually tell people my favourite is Escape Plan because it is quick and fun and easy to teach people so it hits the table a LOT. Vinhos and Lisboa are also high ranking because I find them relatively easy to teach and simple for people to pick up and get into. But I think On Mars is lacerdas best game and I always want to play it more but length and complexity to teach means it hits the table less. Kanban is fantastic and my wife and I love it, but we tend to play it in bursts because of how fiddly and how many bits there are to set up. Gallerist is somewhere in the middle for me. Great game but it just doesn’t compel me to play it over the others.
Great list. Actually all the Lacerdas are so brilliant that it's really tough to rank them. For me On Mars tops the chart only because i like the theme the most. Otherwise On Mars, Lisboa, Kanban, The Gallerist, Vinhos, CO2 are all brilliant (haven't played Escape plan).
My ranking is a little different - I like more open & I typically play Lacerdas at 3-4p: 1. Lisboa 2. Vinhos 3. Gallerist 4. Weather Machine 5. Kanban EV 6. On Mars 7. Escape Plan Unrated (due to no plays): CO2 Escape Plan I just don't love & is the only one I sold. On Mars may be a little unfairly low, but I need to re-learn it in order to play it again and I don't find myself wanting to and no one ever seems to request it.
Your number 1 is the only one that I own. Escape Plan and Vinhos are on my wishlist. I've got Bot Factory coming from the Kickstarter. I'd love to see your rankings for Alexander Pfister.
Bot factory is the llittle brother of kanban. Is awsome...he have energy of kanban but he play to 45mn/1h. Kanban 2h30~3h. It s à great introduction in lacerda 's world ^^
Kanaban EV is my favorite. Mostly because it plays great solo. These games are to niche and hard to to get to the table frequently, so solo is important.
Very surprising that you have the gallerist above on mars and lisboa and even more surprising you dont own kanban or weather machine hehe. Would agree weather machine lisboa-ish bit a little stronger imho. Kanban EV is really great you guys should really get your hands on it... out of all the big box Lacerda ones it's in my top 3 of his games and i originally didn't think i'd like it. My least favorite of his is Escape Plan... we really mostly play these games at two players and that one i'm not that keen on at two.
Co2 is also my least favourite. And btw, you just described exactly why i hate so much Robinson Crusoe 🎉😄 thank you. I have the same feeling about that game.
@@AntLabGames I think all of the heavy Lacerda games are better with more players because of how interaction is handled in most of his designs. CO2 (not the cooperative mode) is a good example of a game that feels a little "flat" with 2 players. The Gallerist is a good choice for number 1.
I guess I'm missing out on something good. I've not been a Lacerda fan, but I've only played Lisboa once and did not like it. Now I'm wondering if the person who taught it to me did not teach me right. All I've ever heard of these games are great things. Maybe it's time to take a second look! Ok i have to ask about the gallerist. This is a game that my group loved then after 3 games we found a game breaking exploit with one of the patrons. It has been a while so i dont remeber which color but basically they are over powered and if you get more of them you just become unstoppable. Now the fix i got from lacerda is dont play that way but why would you not? Havw you guys experienced this and if so how do you stop it?
@@AntLabGames My group has played a couple games (3p and 4p) where we found several players aggressively hoarding Investors (brown) and fast cycling the contract bonus that offers 2+1 money for every Investor + Collector. My big concern is with the mechanic that allows a player to voluntarily eject a Collector when selling art and choose to align the contract card on the Investor bonus. This oddly powerful option ensures several things: 1) The player doesn't need to eject Investors so is easily able to hoard his pool, denying other players, and reap in large rewards each time he uses the bonus 2) Collectors are NEVER in short supply while Investors are 3) Collectors are not as valuable as the specialist visitors. A Collector helps increase artist fame, which inherently is an action that will often benefit MULTIPLE players; the other visitors only ever benefit the player holding them. 4) The acts of buying art -> gain contract -> (use Investor bonus if avail) -> sell art -> use Investor bonus... does not inherently advance the game clock very quickly. Any time an action exists that is both demonstrably lucrative in victory points and is the slowest to advance the game clock is screaming of a game imbalance. Would love to hear from other folks who have played the game if they have experienced similar or have other viewpoints. The counter we were told was try different strategies, but if you have one that always wins why would you not use it?
@@randybookmanI haven’t played the game, but to me, the most important thing is to have fun, not to win. I constantly try out different strategies in games I play a lot, to see how that will work. I may not win as much as some other guys, but I am constantly having so much fun. Of course, I prefer winning to losing, but I think I prefer experimenting to winning. The way you describe this, it seems like its not really fun playing that way, so why would you? 😂 Like Vital Lacerda said. If its a problem to you, play differently.
@@oschiott True, but I also don't think anyone plays a game to lose and it's not fun when there is one strategy that will always win. Experiment all you want, Gallerist has that problem. Ever play the original few acres of snow? Similar issue till someone fixed it. I would love to play gallerist again, but ever since that was discovered, my group won't touch the game anymore. It makes me sad.
@@randybookman I understand your feelings, and I’ve noticed that in a couple of games myself, like in Scythe and Tapestry, but they fixed those issues in later printings. It can be really annoying, especially when you play with guys that won’t like the experience if they don’t win. They will of course try to play optimally every time. I’m sorry if it ruins the experience for you guys, and I hope you can come up with, or find, some house rules to help you enjoy the game again. That’s what games are for, at least to me. Fun!
Weather Machine is a solid design buy still The Gallerist, Lisboa, On Mars and Kanban EV are a better games so recomend to try it before choosing the newest one
Not a Lacerda game, but your comments on CO2 reminded me of Captains of Industry. I really like so much of what that game does, but the abstract circular board design really hurts the experience.
@@AntLabGames I'm sure, On Mars look great but I was worried about the reasons that I didn't like CO2 may mean that I don't like heavy euro board games and I didn't want to spend the money to take that chance. I may have to reconsider though.
Nothing more annoying than 90 seconds of waffling before announcing the name of a board game. This video could be 5 minutes shorter and be SO much better for it.

Weather Machine is good and I think it may be lighter than On Mars. Only slightly though.
Weather machine is much simpler than On Mars. Closer to a lighter Kanban.

The challenge and difficulty to stop climate change in CO2 is very much on theme.

Vinhos is, in my opinion, pretty straight forward to play. Definitely best at 3. The Wine Fair piece is a bit clunky to be honest

I usually tell people my favourite is Escape Plan because it is quick and fun and easy to teach people so it hits the table a LOT. Vinhos and Lisboa are also high ranking because I find them relatively easy to teach and simple for people to pick up and get into. But I think On Mars is lacerdas best game and I always want to play it more but length and complexity to teach means it hits the table less. Kanban is fantastic and my wife and I love it, but we tend to play it in bursts because of how fiddly and how many bits there are to set up. Gallerist is somewhere in the middle for me. Great game but it just doesn’t compel me to play it over the others.
Great list. Actually all the Lacerdas are so brilliant that it's really tough to rank them. For me On Mars tops the chart only because i like the theme the most. Otherwise On Mars, Lisboa, Kanban, The Gallerist, Vinhos, CO2 are all brilliant (haven't played Escape plan).

Escape Plan I just don't love & is the only one I sold. On Mars may be a little unfairly low, but I need to re-learn it in order to play it again and I don't find myself wanting to and no one ever seems to request it.

Bot factory is the llittle brother of kanban. Is awsome...he have energy of kanban but he play to 45mn/1h. Kanban 2h30~3h. It s à great introduction in lacerda 's world ^^
Kanaban EV is my favorite. Mostly because it plays great solo. These games are to niche and hard to to get to the table frequently, so solo is important.

Very surprising that you have the gallerist above on mars and lisboa and even more surprising you dont own kanban or weather machine hehe. Would agree weather machine lisboa-ish bit a little stronger imho. Not sure how anyone could like or dislike on mars and kanban ev differently as to me they operate very similarly (not thematically).

Kanban EV is really great you guys should really get your hands on it... out of all the big box Lacerda ones it's in my top 3 of his games and i originally didn't think i'd like it. My least favorite of his is Escape Plan... we really mostly play these games at two players and that one i'm not that keen on at two.

CO2 is the only Lacerda thays stuck around in my collection 🤣 That's only because it's the only that didn't TOTALLY feel like work to understand lol.

Did you factor in player count when determining your order? We have found that our ranks vary if factoring in 2 player only vs multi player.

@@AntLabGames I think all of the heavy Lacerda games are better with more players because of how interaction is handled in most of his designs. CO2 (not the cooperative mode) is a good example of a game that feels a little "flat" with 2 players. The Gallerist is a good choice for number 1.

I guess I'm missing out on something good. I've not been a Lacerda fan, but I've only played Lisboa once and did not like it. Now I'm wondering if the person who taught it to me did not teach me right. All I've ever heard of these games are great things. Maybe it's time to take a second look! Ok i have to ask about the gallerist. This is a game that my group loved then after 3 games we found a game breaking exploit with one of the patrons. It has been a while so i dont remeber which color but basically they are over powered and if you get more of them you just become unstoppable. Now the fix i got from lacerda is dont play that way but why would you not? Havw you guys experienced this and if so how do you stop it?

@@AntLabGames My group has played a couple games (3p and 4p) where we found several players aggressively hoarding Investors (brown) and fast cycling the contract bonus that offers 2+1 money for every Investor + Collector.
My big concern is with the mechanic that allows a player to voluntarily eject a Collector when selling art and choose to align the contract card on the Investor bonus. This oddly powerful option ensures several things:
1) The player doesn't need to eject Investors so is easily able to hoard his pool, denying other players, and reap in large rewards each time he uses the bonus
2) Collectors are NEVER in short supply while Investors are
3) Collectors are not as valuable as the specialist visitors. A Collector helps increase artist fame, which inherently is an action that will often benefit MULTIPLE players; the other visitors only ever benefit the player holding them.
4) The acts of buying art -> gain contract -> (use Investor bonus if avail) -> sell art -> use Investor bonus... does not inherently advance the game clock very quickly. Any time an action exists that is both demonstrably lucrative in victory points and is the slowest to advance the game clock is screaming of a game imbalance.
Would love to hear from other folks who have played the game if they have experienced similar or have other viewpoints.
The counter we were told was try different strategies, but if you have one that always wins why would you not use it?
@@randybookmanI haven’t played the game, but to me, the most important thing is to have fun, not to win. I constantly try out different strategies in games I play a lot, to see how that will work. I may not win as much as some other guys, but I am constantly having so much fun. Of course, I prefer winning to losing, but I think I prefer experimenting to winning. The way you describe this, it seems like its not really fun playing that way, so why would you? 😂 Like Vital Lacerda said. If its a problem to you, play differently.
@@oschiott True, but I also don't think anyone plays a game to lose and it's not fun when there is one strategy that will always win. Experiment all you want, Gallerist has that problem. Ever play the original few acres of snow? Similar issue till someone fixed it. I would love to play gallerist again, but ever since that was discovered, my group won't touch the game anymore. It makes me sad.
@@randybookman I understand your feelings, and I’ve noticed that in a couple of games myself, like in Scythe and Tapestry, but they fixed those issues in later printings. It can be really annoying, especially when you play with guys that won’t like the experience if they don’t win. They will of course try to play optimally every time. I’m sorry if it ruins the experience for you guys, and I hope you can come up with, or find, some house rules to help you enjoy the game again. That’s what games are for, at least to me. Fun!

Weather Machine is a solid design buy still The Gallerist, Lisboa, On Mars and Kanban EV are a better games so recomend to try it before choosing the newest one

I was excited to try Lacerda but after a slog through Lisboa, I think his games just aren't for me. A bit too heavy for my tastes.

Not a Lacerda game, but your comments on CO2 reminded me of Captains of Industry. I really like so much of what that game does, but the abstract circular board design really hurts the experience.

Don’t discount what you do play and enjoy! These happen to be some of the heaviest board games in the hobby so they are certainly not for everyone.
I really REALLY wanted to love CO2, but it just didn't work for me, and I have stayed away from the rest of his games because of this one.
