first off thank you guys for doing this! I'm new to lacerda and have only played 3 so far but my rankings are 1. escape plan 2. the gallerist 3. lisboa so the opposite of you guys, I just love the theming of escape plan so much
I haven't played them all yet but my number one I feel will always be The Gallerist. I love the theme so much and how seamless every decision you make flows in that game. The rest would be: 2: On Mars 3: CO2 Second Chance 4: Kanban 5: Vinhos 6: Escape Plan I'll be curious to see how Lisboa fits into my list when I finally get a chance to play it since you two have ranked it as your number ones.
With the caveat that I have not played On Mars, I would rank them as: 1. Kanban 2. Vinhos 3. Gallerist 4. CO² 5. Lisboa 6. Escape Plan I need to play Lisboa again someday. As you know, the synapses of my brain had a short circuit when I tried to play it.
You guys did an amazing job with my games. The teaching was really well done, and the play really good. I understand perfectly how difficult and hard it is. I Imagine how many hours editing and filming took you to have this series done. Well done and thank you very much. You are awesome. Hope you had fun. See U on the next game. Thank you.
Thanks for your games! You are one of our favorite designers too (my wife and I). We are currently enjoying Vinhos and it is so amazing. You sir are a genius. Keep up the good work!
Vital Lacerda thank you. Lisboa is a wonderful game. On Mars? Very crunchy and need to play it more to get a better handle on the complexities. Great board and theme!
Thank you Vital! We still can't figure out how you can consistently put out such complex and amazing games. Can't wait to try the new one you have coming out!
Only have one of your games (so far) but CO2: Second Chance is setup on our dining table right now after having played it with my wife and son the last two nights (and lost). It really got us all involved in discussing what we needed to do each turn. I've played it 4 times solo, and haven't won at all yet! Trying to decide which of your other games my wife and son would enjoy so I can put it on my wishlist (I'm thinking Kanban EV might be the one). But thank you for making CO2: Second Chance!
@@odgregg Took me 6 tries of solo to win. But since i figured it out i've won 3 times in a row now with a high score of 32 points, 400 ppm and only one U.N card left. It just feels so good to try to solve the current puzzle in the game and i look forward to playing the semi co-op
P.S. I can’t rank my games. I always say the next one is my favorite. :) And don’t forget about the expansion for On Mars that will have 2 chapters of the game in a co-op version. It will be called Surviving Mars.
Great list! A very comprehensive summary of VL Series and it helps A LOT for someone who is just going to start playing our very first Lacerda soon! Here is the timestamp for each ranks, enjoy the video! #7: 3:38 #6: 5:08 #5: 6:49 #4: 8:15 #3: 10:12 #2: 12:39 #1: 16:19
You two are amazing! I was so afraid to play a Lacerda game until you started the series. My partner and I picked up Kanban as our first and it definitely had an impact. Thinking we may try CO2 next. Thanks for putting out these videos!
thank you two for doing all of these. i live in OC, a lacerda fan, and have lived with two weinerdogs for over half of my life. my rankings: 7 - CO2 - just has not hooked me 6 - escape plan, for the same reasons as you. this may be my #1 if attending an event, though. because it is a bit more simple, and people like to laugh. 5 - vinhos 4 - the gallerist - this was my #1 until fairly recently 3 - kanban - with the new EV version, this should solidify it just ahead of the gallerist now. got that, ian? YOU did that. 2 - lisboa - it was #1 until on mars showed up. like you, it is really close between lisboa and on mars. i give the edge to on mars on the better iconography. 1 - on mars - probably 25 plays in, and i still get humbled, badly, at least half the time. i will have a great game, think about what i did to have achieved it, and then fail horribly at trying to recreate the magic the next time. i now just try to be as opportunistic as possible. nothing is off the table. that is the mark of a great game. many, many avenues to success. give your pup a belly rub for me.
Wow 25 plays! On Mars we always go in with a plan, but the game state changes and they interaction with your opponents really enhance the experience. Dexter appreciates the sponsored belly rub! Weenie Dogs are the best! haha
@@BeforeYouPlay here is my advice after so many plays of on mars: remain flexible and be opportunistic...so basically play it like a lacerda game. i lose more than i win, so take that with a grain of salt. i did win this last one because my opponent got into a pattern, and i used it against her. she would do upgrades, but i would grab the scientists for end-game scoring that coupled with her upgrades instead of grabbing scientists that would help me during game play. it worked! as far as dexter goes, i am smiling because you already know how ridiculous weiners are. as i say around my house, "the penny is show is always on". best wish you two. OC is getting POUNDED with covid right now.
Had a first time session for On Mars yesterday, 4p game and I was on doing the teach. 1st half of the game, my group hated it. Then, it clicked in the 2nd and everything just flowed. Now they're clamoring for a second play. What an experience! Looking forward to getting Gallerist and Kanban EV
Lacerdas games are great. Had a game of Lisboa with my friends 2 days ago. Took us 6 hours to get through tutorial and finish 1 game with 4 people. Thanks to your video tutorial our patience was preserved.
1. Kanban (by far the best... my favorite game all time) love being able to plan a couple moves in advance and track Sandra’s movement and what other players are doing and need. So elegant. 2.On Mars 3. Lisboa 4. CO2 5. Vinhos 6. The Gallerist 7. Escape Plan
Of the games I’ve played of his I agree (I have EV). Kanban EV is hands down better than Lisboa as well imho. There is nothing “fun” in Lisboa that provides an adrenaline rush. Just felt like work. However, I LOVE the theme and the board design is perhaps the most impressive board I’ve ever seen. Well, the components for that matter are top notch, but none could make the game stay in my collection...sold after 4 plays. Next up for me is On Mars likely👍
Great series... I really enjoyed it immensely. Keep up the good work. And many thanks! My rankings... 7. The Gallerist 6. Vinhos 5. Escape Plan 4. On Mars 3. Lisboa 2. Kanban 1. CO2: Second Chance
@@BeforeYouPlay Great question... Co-Op, I think, It's easier to get people to the table. Vital's games scare my friends quite frankly. :D The one thing about CO2 that everyone nitpicks is the integration of both Co-Op and Competitive on both sides: In competitive version, everyone snarls about the semi-Co-Op aspect; and in the Co-Op mode, no one understands why there are private goal cards. I think it all makes sense perfectly from a thematic perspective, but that's why I love the game so much. Altruistically, we are all trying to save the world together, but each of us is running our own company with its own interests and bottom line to protect. Thematically, CO2: Second Chance is so completely fleshed out. When I'm walking around the floor at Gen.Con, that's what draws me to the table like a beacon... The theme and look of the game and all the wonderful little pieces. Building those little power plants is just so incredibly satisfying!!
Great job on the series and I love this recap of the games and hearing your thoughts on them. You channel is the like the Lisboa of board game playthroughs! 😉❤
Great video! Thank you so much for doing these videos and sharing your passion for the games with us. Vital is one of our favorite designers as well (my wife and I). I particularly liked your Vinhos video and used it before we played that one. Keep up the good work!
Thank you for this great playtroughs of Vital Lacerda Games. Its by far, my favourite designer. My rank for his games; 1 ‐ Lisboa 2 ‐ The Gallerist 3 - CO2 4 - Kanban 5 - Vinhos 6 - On Mars 7 - Escape Plan
thanks a lot for this series! i really enjoyed it, and was eagerly awaiting the on mars play through. lisboa was my first lacerda, and would be #1 for me as well. so, so elegant, both in appearance and game design...
I wanted to just Quack here - but all of the places the 'lope sends us to are fantastic. This is in my 'to watch' list. I need more Lacerda. And he even commented on this vid. Every time I'm amazed by the BGG / Game community how great it is. Great stuff guys. Am going to follow you because of great stuff, not because some guy pushed me this way!
I was considering purchasing Lisboa for quite some time just based on wanting to add a Lacerda game to my collection and liking the graphic design of the game so much. After watching your playthrough, I couldn't resist any longer, and picked it up the next day. Very happy I did. I played On Mars before that, and they are the only played 2 Lacerda games I've played at this point. I like Lisboa better, but On Mars is a great game and I want to give it another play.
I think you have made an excellent choice with picking up Lisboa! Such a great value when you think about the virtually unlimited enjoyment you can get out of the game. A beautiful design with fantastic replay-ability!
Lisboa is also on my #1 and its a masterpiece. It's also my introduction into the Lacerda games and was one of my early purchases when I got into board gaming. It definitely holds a special place in my heart, because no other game had me staying up late into the twilight hours learning the game. It felt good after everything "clicked". I have On Mars, Escape Plan, Kanban in my collection as well. I ended up selling the other selling the other Lacerda games, because I didn't care much for the themes. Great games in their own right.
Thank you so much for the Lacerda series. My Lacerda journey started with the On Mars KS. Then the Kanban EV KS followed and I hopy to get my copy by end of the year. Next week will be my birthday and I know for sure that I will get Lisboa :-)) So some more Lacerda games are waiting for me and sooner or later I will get some more. It just depneds on the content of my wallet ...... I was not aware the there will be an expansion for Lisboa. Thank you for information.
Thank you so so so much for the great great Vital Lacerda series. I've started watching your videos with Tapestry. You should continue playing games from a designer and rank them besides the normal reviews. Thank you!!!!
Favourite Series for Lacerda games. :) Favourite designer for me, hard to rank his games. I'd agree with you guys on Escape Plan, that would be 7 for me, but for the top 3, it's tough to decide. For sure On Mars/Lisboa in the top 2. For a long time Lisboa was #1, but the more I play On Mars...........It's almost edging Lisboa out. For now though, Lisboa remains #1. The Gallerist was my first Lacerda game, so I'd probably put it at 3, just because it is the game that got me into Lacerda games. I look forward to your review/play of Mercado de Lisboa when you are able to get a copy/play it. :)
Hi guys! I watch and write from Italy 😊 Your videos got us (me and husband) all crazy in love with Vital Lacerda games 😍 your explanations made them all so clear, highlighting the flawless thematic logic that guides them all 😍 you're great and these games are fantastic! 😍 Thank you so much for this Amazing series! We are now craving to buy them all! (Family wallet says thanks as well 🤣) And, as Monique suggests, we are starting with Vinhos (1st version) and On mars 🥰 thanks again to you.. and Vital ❤️ have a happy Easter! 🕊️
Aww thank you so much, we are so glad that you found the videos enjoyable and helpful! We absolutely love Italy and can't wait to go back, there's so much to explore that a 12 day trip didn't feel like enough time!!
YES! This was just what I was looking for! I just got CO2 after moving to heavier games during the quarantine here in NY. Excited to dive into his catalog over the year or so. Thanks for the great content!
I never played any Lacerda games. After watching your video, I ordered Vinhos. I can’t wait to try it. I also backed the new filler on KS. I will eventually buy Lisboa. Thanks for your excellent video. English isn’t my first language and I had no problème understanding. You are good pédagogue.
Thank you so much for watching, we hope you really enjoy it! I'm so glad you were able to understand! I think your English is much better than you think :)
I hadn’t tried any Lacerda games before I watched this series either. Now I can’t get enough!!! I’ve watched all the videos now. Still have to find the gallerist and co2. I have to try Kanban and Lisboa, but so far On Mars is my jam!!!
I love this kind of video. Bringing together many games and comparing your likes and thoughts. And it really helps to understand VL games as far as what I'd like or not like. I wonder, if you did a follow-up today, (16 months later), how might this list change. Given you've both had a chance to play Weather Machine and On Mars Alien Invasion. Kanban EV, Lisboa: Queen Variant, and Mercado de Lisboa are now out. Maybe you could let us know. You kinda scared me away from On Mars a little bit. 4.65 is pretty heavy. Sprit Island I think is the heaviest I've played and it comes in at 4.03. :)
Another great video...I was thinking about getting Lisboa then I watched your video and decided to get it. I'm also very excited about On Mars, I love this theme. I've never player any Vital Lacerda game and I know I'm starting with the heaviest ones LOL.
@@BeforeYouPlay I got my Lisboa and had my first game. It's an amazing game. I still have a lot to learn but I already realized it's a very deep game.
Best to worse... Kanban, Lisboa, The Gallerist, CO2, Escape Plan, On Mars, Vinhos - no surprise, the lowest 2 are the games I didn’t develop :). Best artwork is On Mars, Best with 2 Kanban, Hardest to teach Lisboa, Easiest to teach The Gallerist. Great job. Love your insights and well thought out commentary.
Vital Lacerda :) I’m obviously emotional attached to the games I helped create. But to be fair... I haven’t played On Mar enough. No time for games these days.
That's a quacking countdown - and thank you so much for this whole series of videos. I've only played On Mars so far, and only once at that - but find his design ethos fascinating and would love to play much more.
Hi guys, From what I've played from him: 1. Lisboa 2. Escape Plan 3. The Gallerist 4. Vinhos Ps: Lisboa is my #2 favorite of all time. With Brass Birmingham being #1
Quacktastic video. I'm still really in my infancy of getting into board games so a short ranking of games like this is super helpful! Quack, Quack, Quack
Loved the serie, always a pleasure see u 2 playing. Lacerda games are amazing, I have Co2, Kanban and On Mars and enjoy them even more every time I play. Now I need to get my hands on Lisboa!
I think Vital is my favorite designer as well. When I first got into the hobby not too long ago I wanted a challenging game and ended up with The Gallerist and my mind couldn't comprehend it at all. Now On Mars seems easy to me (to grasp not win.) Wish I had people like you in my area that enjoyed Lacerda as much as you so I could play them. I've only watched Kanban so far since my copy of EV is coming this year and the way you taught it was so clear and precise so great job on that. Look forward to finishing the series.
Our raking would be: 1: Gallerist: love the kickout actions, they can be so powerful as Naveen mentioned, scales well at 2 player, very thematic 2: Escape plan : love the game, our most brought out to table of the Lacerda games (very easy to teach a new player), everything feels so thematic, the rule book is so well thought out and easy to understand, every action makes sense. 3: Vinhos: Solid game but as Naveen mentioned every player can come up with a pre planned strategy which makes it kind of a rat race to get the best wine yards from specific locations. 4: CO2: Good game thematically but so easy to loose and spoils the whole experience after putting hours into learning the game and setting it uo. Have not played the rest of the games but getting On Mars soon so will update the list accordingly. Very difficult to get these games in India.
I've been wanting to get the Gallerist to my friends' (virtual) table. We all have fondness for art themed games. That video was great with a short and clear overview, but based on these rankings I'll have to give Lisboa a chance when I'm feeling up to give it a quack.
I like the quack down on Vital Lacerda's games. Thanks for the content. I would recommend writing the name on each game somewhere or showing it to make it easier to find elsewhere.
Fantastic series and brilliant job!. My wife & I have played 3 Lacerda's on the bounce over the last several weeks. We started with Lisboa, 5 games, on to Vinhos ( mainly ) 2010 side for 12 games and just notched up our 5th game of On Mars. We both agree On Mars is our favourite so far, followed very closely by Lisboa and really enjoyed Vinhos. After On Mars we are hitting Escape plan and then Kanban. Played the Gallerist a good while back & it didn't click, have to play it again. Don't own CO2, may have to pick it up!
Great video, thanks so much! I haven't played all of them, deliberately, because some of them either don't appeal to me thematically or else they don't play well solo or 2-player, but the ones I HAVE played I have thoroughly enjoyed! However, the only one that I still own is Lisboa, for all the same reasons you have talked about. I do look forward to playing On Mars at some point, but I haven't had an opportunity yet.
Been following you guys for a little bit but its always nice to see content creators supporting each other. So prepare yourselves because Quackalope has sent an army to support and we are here with lovely echoing quacks!
CO2 co-op never really clicked with me, and I heard from someone with more experience playing it that you basically have to always get the beginning right, after which winning the game becomes almost automatic, and when you know what you're doing, it is rather repetitive and algorithmic. However, I quite enjoy CO2 as a semi-competitive game. With the caveat of playing it as a 2-3 player game. And using one of the official Lacerda rules variants (e.g. starting the game with 0 ppm) that remove the "75 % failure rate" from the game. As for personal favorites: 1) Lisboa is just mesmerisingly fantastic and enjoyable, 2) Vinhos Deluxe because I love the tightness and its sheer brutality, 3) The Gallerist for being quite quick, relaxing and just enjoyable to play. I haven't played Kanban, but have Kanban EV coming later this year. I didn't like about On Mars how important information (=cards that you can also use) is spread out on other peoples' tableaus. It's hard to keep track of all that. However, I want to play it again and will reserve judgment until I do.
I definitely see what you mean about CO2. Definitely recommend the rule variants in order to have a full experience (no losing after taking the time setting up the game haha). Once everyone is comfortable it plays really well, and the problem solving really scratches that itch for us. We are really looking forward to seeing the new Kanban in person.
They could be ranked by there ability to incorporate duck components. Quack. 7 - On Mars - Lack of ponds and lakes makes it a difficult addition 6 - CO2 - Burning ducks for fuel is just right out! 5 - Escape plan - The bank contains a vault full of golden ducks? 4 - Lisboa - The duck paradise has been destroyed and its up to you to recreate it 3 - Gallerist - Best duck paintings 2 - Vinhos - The crafting game where you create different plastic ducks 1 - Kanban - Who doesn't want to create duck cars?
Lisboa is definitely the best for me too. Funny thing is that it's the last I've discovered because I was somehow reluctant to the azulejos style which doesn't appeal to me. But the pace of the game, the different strategies, the multipurpose cards, the battle for majorities (in town or via the decrees), I love everything, and I even ended up loving the art :-) I also ended up using the mini Queen Variant expansion to reduce the rush on decrees in the final phase of the game. And yet, I found out Lisboa is not the easiest to teach, precisely because all of this :-) Yes, indeed, it could be sum up as "you play a card, you do something, you draw a card", but the multi-purposes cards which don't unlock the same actions depending where you put them, or the rumble costs that you need to add up in order to build a store, it's sounds way more complicated than On Mars for most of my fellow players, and On Mars doesn't feel so complicated compared to what I hear constantly about it (including here :-) ) So, On Mars was my favorite for months, especially because it's a space game, and I do love space games, and this simple fact should have been enough to win the race. But Vital forgot to put a combat system, plasma canons and neutron bomb ("damn it, Vital!"), forcing me to go back to my choice of reason : I prefer Lisboa. But as you said in your video, one cannot interpret this sentence as "On Mars is bad". Because On Mars is excellent, and so is Kanban EV (my 3rd choice) or The Gallerist (my 4th choice). On a final note, I love your work. I think it's the first time in my life that I watch several playthrough from the beginning to the end, which undoubtably means that you are as interesting as a tv show on Netflix, and that's a big compliment :-) The alchemy between you two, the way you explain, everything is top notch and should stay as is. Maybe Naveen could improve his level to win, sometimes. ahah
I have previously seen your video on Lacerda games because I love Lacerda games and you’re really great in your reviews/gameplays. What I didn’t say last time is QUACK! 😂😂
I only have 'The Gallerist', which so far have only played solo, wonderful game. With friends I played 'Escape Plan', which I also loved. Maybe I'll get the new Kanban, but all of his big ones are darn expensive.
Oh it's really nice hearing from someone who played solo! Ive actually played Kanban solo once and really enjoyed it. I know what you mean, I wish they made a less produced option for the large box games that are more affordable. I feel like it would create less of a barrier for playing his games.
I just wanted to stop by and thank you two for the amazing work you're doing. Really loved this series and was impressed by the teach, the playthrough and the fun you both are having. Really great to watch. You might have hurt my wallet though. On Mars and Kanban EV are on my shelf now and The Gallerist is on it's way. The buying order for the other ones is planned allready. ;) Love his games since playing the first one (On Mars), though I tend to lose horribly to my wife :D Keep up the good work! Really enjoying what you two are doing!
Only halfway through so far but just had to go ahead and say how much I'm enjoying the video. Really glad Quackalope linked to your video, definitely going to subscribe and go back to watch the whole playthrough series. I mean if Mr. Lacerda himself gives praise I gotta check them out. Excited to check out the rest of your content. Three QUACKS for Before You Play! Hip hip, QUACK! Hip hip, QUACK! Hip hip, QUACK!
Definitely suggest trying CO2 competitive again with the variant that removes a couple of 20s and a couple of 40s from the pool at the start. It gives a small chance for everyone to still lose if there's *zero* cooperation, but it smooths out the distribution of potential overall pollution so that game to game its less swingy overall. I think it'd climb your rankings when played that way.
At Origins I meant some guy who was telling me about the game I just backed (Lisboa). Did not know who he was, he said he liked Lisboa because you play a card and do something. Then I looked at his name tag. Who was he you ask... I laughed for an hour afterwords, and he was right. I love that game from my favorite designer as well. Hint it was Vital.
When I do the teach for On Mars it helps to start it off with quacking with my friends and then teach a new rule and then QUACK! All jokes aside, just discovered your guys a week ago and love what you do! Keep it up!
Great list. I have played exactly 0 Lacerda games. Weight has kept me from picking one up, but Lisboa has always been the most interesting. Good to hear you two like it best. oh and... Viva la quack!
N 7: Escape plan 6: Vinhos 5: Kanban 4: The Gallerist 3: On Mars 2: CO2 1: Lisboa M 7: Escape plan 6: CO2 5: Vinhos 4: The Gallerist 3: Kanban 2: On Mars 1: Lisboa Thank you for the videos!
I own: Vinhos, Escape Plan, and On Mars. I backed the Alien Invasion KS just to get access to the pledge manager so I could snag a copy of Rococo... but I think you two have convinced me to also pick up Lisboa and Kanban EV. Thanks! Alas, CO2 was done with Stronghold games... so I'll have to find another way of grabbing that.
Great video! I'm new to this channel and we own 2 of these games( Lisboa, On Mars) I am interested in KanBan, Escape plan and my wife the gallerist we are watching videos to see what the games look like. It is great to hear how you guys ranked the games. We will continue watching your playthroughs and see which one will be our next Lacerda's. You guys did an amazing job, Greetings from Quebec city!
Great job on the run throughs and rankings. Huge fan of Lacerda games and Ian O'Toole's graphic design. I keep hearing how great Lisboa is, but I can't seem to get excited for it. The board is so blue/purple and your explanation of the 'simplicity' is true of The Gallerist, Kanban, and On Mars. You play a worker and then do stuff. I understand that people really like cards and tableaus (love Race for the Galaxy), but I just don't see what makes this game special (and for the price of these games they need to be special). My favorites are The Gallerist and On Mars. I love promoting artists and filling my gallery with art and patrons, the theme is so locked on for a heavy euro. Love the interaction of increasing the artists fame and how that might affect others. On Mars has really interesting interactions with the upgrades that everyone can use and scientists creating short lived alliances. I find these interactions so enjoyable. I just don't see those things in Lisboa (I know there are boats, but that doesn't look too exciting).
I really enjoyed this video. I have been wanting to play some Lacerda games for the longest time and this has helped me to figure out which ones to try first if/when I get the chance. Thanks guys!
If I may, I have a small suggestion for those "Ranking X designer games" sum up videos. It would be really cool if you would put links to the all the playthroughs of the games you're talking about, in the video description (or if it messes up the algorithm, in a pinned comment), or at least name all the games you will be discussing in the video so it's easier to check if we've seen all those videos before starting this one, or quickly getting to it if we're unfamiliar. As always, awesome video. Thank you so much for your work. :)
lacerda is an genius. i came across lisboa and was amazed at once. then i saw co2 and the theme seemed so relevant and coop is just so cool. and when i saw on mars and learnt that this is made by the same person.. just wow. my second game is co2 on the list, i could help but buy on mars
Wonderful video. Really liked the mini categories at the beginning. Im watching this video literally right after my first play of Lisboa at the game night I host. I can certainly see why its your number 1. Im slowly working through his collection having played Kanban, The Gallerist, Vinhos, and now Lisboa. Keep up the great work. Subscribed.
We own The Gallerist and On Mars, and just got On Mars in the last week, but since one was on both your #1 spot we ordered a new game... 😅 Look forward to watching your teach video. ✌️
Thank you for this great video. I probably should have watched it before I placed my order for my 1st Vital Lacerda game yesterday. I agonized over Lisboa & On Mars for weeks, but in the end I decided I don't really fancy historical themes, but I'm a total sucker for sci-fi. If I enjoy On Mars I'll probably pick up Lisboa also. Wish me luck, and thank you again!
All of Vital's games are "Quack"tastic! My brother owns all of his games. My favorite was Vinhos but ever since On Mars delivered it moved up the list at a rapid pace and grabbed the #1 spot for me.
I've been eyeing Vital Lacerda's games, and On Mars is the most appealing looking to me, but you rate it as the hardest one and Escape Plan sounds really cool too, so maybe that's a better place to start. Quack!
Lol for all the gasping, 3/7 of these were the same for you guys! Escape Plan, The Gallerist, and Lisboa :) Loved watching this!! I love his games as well!! :)
I just started paying attention to designers recently and found that though I’ve never played any Lacerda games, every one is pretty high on my wishlist. Excited to give them a fair quack.
Great job guys! I really enjoy your reviews and playthrough videos. Please keep it up and know that I for one support you. And as a side note ... Vital Lacerda is my favorite Designer! I backed Kanban EV and can't wait for your review and playthrough. of the 7 I am only missing Lisboa, which I hope I can find at a bargin. _ Thanks again for you both! 7. Lisboa - Only because I do not have it to play :( 6. CO2 2nd Chance (coop) 5. On Mars - DAMN this one is hard, but I love it and after a few more plays I think it will climb up my list 4. Vinhos with the bank 3. Kanban - Love the Theme 2. Escape Plan - Love the Theme 1. The Gallerist - Love the Theme
Our gaming group is fortunate to own all of Vital Lacerda's games and they are always in regular rotation. Such a hard decision to make and really any of my top 4 are interchangeable. 7: Escape Plan 6: CO2 5: Vinhos 4: Lisboa 3: Kanban 2: Gallerist 1: On Mars
I have watched your videos before and your petrichor playthrough got me over the line in their latest kickstarter. So thankyou! But like most others Quackalope brought me here... Quack!
How would you rank your favorites?
first off thank you guys for doing this!
I'm new to lacerda and have only played 3 so far but my rankings are
1. escape plan
2. the gallerist
3. lisboa
so the opposite of you guys, I just love the theming of escape plan so much
Really good job for all the videos.
My rank is:
1. On mars
2. Kanban
3. Vinhos
4. CO2
5. The gallerist
6. Lisboa
7.escape plan
8 Dragon Keeper
I haven't played them all yet but my number one I feel will always be The Gallerist. I love the theme so much and how seamless every decision you make flows in that game. The rest would be:
2: On Mars
3: CO2 Second Chance
4: Kanban
5: Vinhos
6: Escape Plan
I'll be curious to see how Lisboa fits into my list when I finally get a chance to play it since you two have ranked it as your number ones.
With the caveat that I have not played On Mars, I would rank them as:
1. Kanban
2. Vinhos
3. Gallerist
4. CO²
5. Lisboa
6. Escape Plan
I need to play Lisboa again someday. As you know, the synapses of my brain had a short circuit when I tried to play it.
Haven't played Vinhos & Gallerist. from the ones i played
1. On Mars
2. Lisboa
3. CO2: Second Chance (competitive mode)
4. Kanban
5. Escape Plan
And don’t forget about the expansion for On Mars that will have 2 chapters of the game in a co-op version. It will be called Surviving Mars.
Really looking forward to this...
When do you expect to release Surviving Mars? The anticipation is killing me!
I feel really bad asking this... but which of your games do you think is the best to play solo (apart from 'your next one' :-)
Big fan from China and plz ask egg to produce more copies of On Mars in Chinese! ! !
@@EricWoning From my experience, I think The Gallerist plays really well solo, trying to reach the ultimate level of success.
Great list! A very comprehensive summary of VL Series and it helps A LOT for someone who is just going to start playing our very first Lacerda soon!
Here is the timestamp for each ranks, enjoy the video!
#7: 3:38
#6: 5:08
#5: 6:49
#4: 8:15
#3: 10:12
#2: 12:39
#1: 16:19
You two are amazing! I was so afraid to play a Lacerda game until you started the series. My partner and I picked up Kanban as our first and it definitely had an impact. Thinking we may try CO2 next. Thanks for putting out these videos!
Thank you for your continued support Richard! We think you should try the Co-Op version first for CO2. The game is hard enough to compete with lol
@@BeforeYouPlay You will always have my support! And we will DEFINITELY be doing Co-Op first if it's easier. lol
thank you two for doing all of these. i live in OC, a lacerda fan, and have lived with two weinerdogs for over half of my life.
my rankings:
7 - CO2 - just has not hooked me
6 - escape plan, for the same reasons as you. this may be my #1 if attending an event, though. because it is a bit more simple, and people like to laugh.
5 - vinhos
4 - the gallerist - this was my #1 until fairly recently
3 - kanban - with the new EV version, this should solidify it just ahead of the gallerist now. got that, ian?
Surviving the Lacerda marathon is a credit to you both. Brilliantly presented and taught. Look forward to an Uwe Rosenberg or Daniel Tascini series
Uwe Rosenberg is definitely on our radar. Who is your favorite designer?
Lacerdas games are great. Had a game of Lisboa with my friends 2 days ago. Took us 6 hours to get through tutorial and finish 1 game with 4 people. Thanks to your video tutorial our patience was preserved.
Nice work! Did you all have fun?
@@BeforeYouPlay definitely one the best games ever. Found it on tabletop, playing online tonight ;)
Will be interesting to see if Kanban moves up after you play EV
1. Kanban (by far the best... my favorite game all time) love being able to plan a couple moves in advance and track Sandra’s movement and what other players are doing and need. So elegant.
2.On Mars
3. Lisboa
4. CO2
5. Vinhos
6. The Gallerist
7. Escape Plan
Love this! Thank you for sharing your ranking! Those top 3 games, just such beautiful designs. Kanban is amazing, we're pretty excited for Kanban EV!
It's funny isn't it that if you played Kanban before The Gallerist, the latter felt like a rehash clone and sullied it a bit.
You are my favorite 2 player board gamers. You are like Donald and his Quack. Subscribed!
Great series... I really enjoyed it immensely. Keep up the good work. And many thanks!
My rankings...
7. The Gallerist
6. Vinhos
5. Escape Plan
4. On Mars
3. Lisboa

1. CO2: Second Chance
We have a CO2 Second Chance #1!!! Co-Op or Competative version???
You taught me first Lacerda game (Kanban) so getting your perspective on the whole library is amazing! Thank you!
Thom!!!! We wish we could play with you at our local Con again! Looks like they just cancelled September officially :(
Great video! Thank you so much for doing these videos and sharing your passion for the games with us. Vital is one of our favorite designers as well (my wife and I). I particularly liked your Vinhos video and used it before we played that one. Keep up the good work!
Thanks for following along with us! Have you been able to play all of his games?
Thank you for this great playtroughs of Vital Lacerda Games. Its by far, my favourite designer. My rank for his games;
1 ‐ Lisboa
2 ‐ The Gallerist
3 - CO2
4 - Kanban
5 - Vinhos
6 - On Mars
7 - Escape Plan
On Mars at #6!! haha He's such an amazing designer.
thanks a lot for this series! i really enjoyed it, and was eagerly awaiting the on mars play through. lisboa was my first lacerda, and would be #1 for me as well. so, so elegant, both in appearance and game design...
Thanks for being patient with us! Lisboa is a masterpiece, now we patiently await the expansion!
Glad I could show them off!
Yeah, a list! 😁❤❤
It had to be done! lol
Great job going through all the Lacerda games, I haven't been able to play them all but here are my top 3: 1. The Gallerist 2. On Mars 3. Escape Plan
Which ones are you still needing to play?
@@BeforeYouPlay Lisboa is next on my list but it got derailed by covid and I just picked up Vinhos so wanna get that played after Lisboa
The quackoning is coming. Quack along in revelry and delight. Always great to be introduced to great content creators. Subscribed!
Hi, I would love to know where you would put Speakeasy in your Lacerda list? Thanks so much!
Great job throughout the entire series. Your hard work and passion comes through in each video and this was a great way to top it off!
Hi Robert! Thank you so much for your continued support and your kind words, you're a class act!
@@BeforeYouPlay Sorry for the late response... was busy QUACKing
Glad to enjoyed the series, we had a lot of fun doing it! Have you played Lisboa yet, or will it be your first time?
@@BeforeYouPlay I never played Lisboa before. I can't wait to get my copy on 23rd July :-)
Thank you so so so much for the great great Vital Lacerda series. I've started watching your videos with Tapestry. You should continue playing games from a designer and rank them besides the normal reviews. Thank you!!!!
We are planning on doing another "Designer Series" in the near future. Do you have a designer in mind?
It's such a good thing that its hard to rank his top games. It really shows how amazing of a designer he is.
Thanks for watching, hope this helps lead you in the direction of heavier games!
Thanks for the series! Your videos were super helpful when deciding which Lacerda to get, and very enjoyable to watch.
Glad we could help!
I was in total awe of Ian O'Toole's artwork for CO2: Second Chance. It caught my eye at Essen and picked it up when I got back to the states.
Love love love Vital Lacerda. Not for everyone, but some of my favorites. Quacking over from Quackalope's channel. Nice to find new content creators!
Excited for you to receive Lisboa!! Hope you will like his games as much as we do!
Paul Incao lol, OnMars and Vinhos on the bottom? No way.
Vital Lacerda :) I’m obviously emotional attached to the games I helped create. But to be fair... I haven’t played On Mar enough. No time for games these days.
I have started to see your videos pop up in my reccomends - glad it did. Great to see fans of heavier euros; your fort runthorugh was very inforamtive
Glad we've found each other! Thanks for taking a chance on us lol 😆
That's a quacking countdown - and thank you so much for this whole series of videos. I've only played On Mars so far, and only once at that - but find his design ethos fascinating and would love to play much more.
Hi guys,
From what I've played from him:
1. Lisboa
2. Escape Plan
3. The Gallerist
4. Vinhos
Ps: Lisboa is my #2 favorite of all time. With Brass Birmingham being #1
Co2, you can manage A LOT the "lucky" stuff, planning to spend your points to the worst scenario... all of the players need to contribute on this.
Awesome!! Thank you for watching! oh my gosh, if you haven't yet played Lisboa, you will not be disappointed.
Our raking would be:
1: Gallerist: love the kickout actions, they can be so powerful as Naveen mentioned, scales well at 2 player, very thematic
2: Escape plan : love the game, our most brought out to table of the Lacerda games (very easy to teach a new player), everything feels so thematic, the rule book is so well thought out and easy to understand, every action makes sense.
The Gallerist is AMAZING
Quack! Love Lacerda games. I have them all! Really enjoy your channel, keep it up!
Thanks for your playtroughs, they helped me choose my first Lacerdas:
Kanban EV
Lisboa
On Mars
They are masterpieces!
Before You Play oh yes the setup of CO2 makes me cry... Even more so with the full co-op.
They could be ranked by there ability to incorporate duck components. Quack.
7 - On Mars - Lack of ponds and lakes makes it a difficult addition
6 - CO2 - Burning ducks for fuel is just right out!
5 - Escape plan - The bank contains a vault full of golden ducks?
4 - Lisboa - The duck paradise has been destroyed and its up to you to recreate it
3 - Gallerist - Best duck paintings
2 - Vinhos - The crafting game where you create different plastic ducks
1 - Kanban - Who doesn't want to create duck cars?
Lisboa is definitely the best for me too. Funny thing is that it's the last I've discovered because I was somehow reluctant to the azulejos style which doesn't appeal to me. But the pace of the game, the different strategies, the multipurpose cards, the battle for majorities (in town or via the decrees), I love everything, and I even ended up loving the art :-) I also ended up using the mini Queen Variant expansion to reduce the rush on decrees in the final phase of the game.
And yet, I found out Lisboa is not the easiest to teach, precisely because all of this :-) Yes, indeed, it could be sum up as "you play a card, you do something, you draw a card", but the multi-purposes cards which don't unlock the same actions depending where you put them, or the rumble costs that you need to add up in order to build a store, it's sounds way more complicated than On Mars for most of my fellow players, and On Mars doesn't feel so complicated compared to what I hear constantly about it (including here :-) )
So, On Mars was my favorite for months, especially because it's a space game, and I do love space games, and this simple fact should have been enough to win the race.
The buying order for the other ones is planned allready. ;)
Love his games since playing the first one (On Mars), though I tend to lose horribly to my wife :D
Keep up the good work!
The series was excellent and helped me to play the games as I struggle with rule books.
That's so awesome! We appreciate your support. Hope you get to experience all 7 games.
Will definitely give that a try next time! I think at 2 player we prefer co-op, but 3+ we'd like to play competitive again.
Quack. Already enjoying the sincere commentary on Before You Play.
Thanks for this guys! Loved the series so much! 😊
Thanks for watching!
Keep it up!
whats the whole quacking thing? lol
Great list. I have played exactly 0 Lacerda games. Weight has kept me from picking one up, but Lisboa has always been the most interesting. Good to hear you two like it best.
oh and...
Viva la quack!
QUACK! Practically all of these games are on my want to play list but I haven't played ANY yet 😶 You guys are giving me the push to play them!
Really appreciate this series, fantastic game teach and insights. I went and bought three of them (for now) because of this.

Vital Lacerda owes you some serious money. I've bought 3 of his games because of your reviews.
That is awesome! If you like his other titles I'm sure you will enjoy Lisboa as well :)
Love your content! Opinions are always helpful to see other people's perspectives. Quack quack.
Quack on! I have never played any of these games but now I am on the hunt to get a few. Thanks.
I am amazed you were able to do this. Quack attack but so glad to have found d more great content creators.
Only had the opportunity to play Kanban so far and all I could think was...
What's quack-ulous game! 😍😍😍
Looking forward to try the rest.
I've been eyeing Vital Lacerda's games, and On Mars is the most appealing looking to me, but you rate it as the hardest one and Escape Plan sounds really cool too, so maybe that's a better place to start. Quack!
Great break down of Lacerda's amazing line of games! Quack Quack
Lol for all the gasping, 3/7 of these were the same for you guys! Escape Plan, The Gallerist, and Lisboa :)
Loved watching this!! I love his games as well!! :)
I just started paying attention to designers recently and found that though I’ve never played any Lacerda games, every one is pretty high on my wishlist. Excited to give them a fair quack.
Was sent here by Quackalope and subscribed for a potential future "Ranking Vital Lacerda Co-op Games" :)
7. Lisboa - Only because I do not have it to play :(
6. CO2 2nd Chance (coop)
5. On Mars - DAMN this one is hard, but I love it and after a few more plays I think it will climb up my list
4. Vinhos with the bank
3. Kanban - Love the Theme
2. Escape Plan - Love the Theme
1. The Gallerist - Love the Theme
Hi John, please tell me you've at least played Lisboa??!!? On Mars is a beast, he has so many gems that it really is hard to rate them all.
Would actually love you guys to do a video on the T games!!

Our gaming group is fortunate to own all of Vital Lacerda's games and they are always in regular rotation. Such a hard decision to make and really any of my top 4 are interchangeable.
7: Escape Plan
6: CO2
5: Vinhos
4: Lisboa
3: Kanban
2: Gallerist
1: On Mars
He's just so dang good and designing games. I don't know how his brain can come up with these things!
I have watched your videos before and your petrichor playthrough got me over the line in their latest kickstarter. So thankyou! But like most others Quackalope brought me here... Quack!
Been waiting for this video forever!!! Great work guys!
Haha Daniel! Thanks for your support, we really appreciate it.
Just started playing modern boardgames and have never played any Vidal Lacerda games. Definitely going to check out some out. Quack :)
For me, right now, I would say that is: 1-On Mars; 2-Vinhos; 3-Lisboa; 4-The Gallerist; 5-Kanban. I never played Escape Plan and CO2.
All of them are just so darn good! Follow up with us when you finally finish your personal Vital series :)
QUACK -ingly informative. Great to get such good commentary.
What a great series 👍
Thanks for that 😃
I never played a Lacerda, but now I will take a closer look into Lisboa 😃👍😃
Watched your Shivers preview before the Quack! Great videos
