Simple and clear explanation of how to safely cut dowels using a router table and bits 👍 If doing long bits of dowel, then the square ends may not both go against the fence anymore ... therefore I'd suggest only cutting a short section on all four sides first to check roundness before cutting the full length, meaning you don't need to do a second pass.

so i need a dowel that is 1 and 1/4. is it corect that i need a 5/16 router bit
Hi, not very good with inches to be honest. The rule is that the router bit needs to be half the size of the dowel that you need.
I'm probably a little late but I believe 5/8 would be the size you need.
