    1. Subaru Outback- downsides are turbo and CVT for reliability, but good torque and simulated shifting. Good gas mileage for SUV
    2. Toyota RAV4- incredibly reliable. Front WD is all you need, 6 cylinder nice but not really needed for around-town driving.
    3. Mazda CX9- only 4cyl, but 2.5 L decent size, plus turbo. Good mechanical (not CVT) transmission. Older version was a good deal, but new 6 cyl. versions are quite expensive.
    4. Scotty taking shots at Volkswagen emissions issues, but basically said that the Mazda (and assumingly Outback and RAV4) is reliable as those engines without the diesel exhaust issues

    • @melissas4874
      @melissas4874 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Get your own channel LMAO. All diesel engines are known to last for 300k+ miles and not just VW's which was his real point. Plenty of trucks have diesel engines so it had nothing to do with the brand so much as diesel's last a long time. In fact, I would say that many of us who bought the TDI's did so because they were the only reliable one out of all the VW's.

    Scotty, I have a 2018 Mazda 6. When it had about 18,000 miles on it I started to notice a noise up front on the right side. the car had never been in a wreck nor incurred curb shots. It sounded like a wheel bearing. (there was also a recal on the trani) so I took into the dealer. They test drove it with sound sensors and figured out it was a wheel bearing, replaced it and it was fixed. I think Mazda had a bad batch of wheel bearings. Maybe the bad batch of wheel bearings were installed on the right side. This car was also made in Japan, probably Spring os 2018.

      Doesn't surprise me. One of my sisters is a big Subaru fan. That's all she likes to buy. The CVT also failed in her Outback 2 years ago or so & she actually paid to get it replaced. True about the turbo engines, but if you know how to care for, maintain, and enjoy the performance like TheCarCareNut covers in his recent video, and it's a solid vehicle, it will last a lot longer.

      Mazda are great cars. Used to have alot of issues with prematurely rusting but that can easily be remedied by rustproofing every year. Maybe the newer ones are better since they've started producing in Japan again. (From about 2014, when they split off the partnership with Ford)

    Literally had the same new 07 Rav4, color & all. I liked it for drivability, versatility and did very well with chicago area winters with the selective AWD. That being said for the 10 yrs we had it, mechanically it was terrible.
    Though the engine & trans were rock solid, had many reliability side issues ranging from:
    a long list of factory recall items, early failure of the water pump, early rusting out of the integrated muffler / cat assembly, leaking rear diff seals, a failed rear diff coupler unit, a small section of a rear coil spring which snapped & broke off while parked on the driveway. Was thankful many of the items were covered by normal warranty or special programs.

    Scotty you should know a lot of subarus burn oil because of loose tolerances in the engine. Getting a new cat at 650000 miles because of burning 1 quarts every 10000 miles.

    Scotty what do you think of the new Honda ridge lines ?
    Of course I wouldn’t be buying it for towing or off roading.
    I’m more wondering about it as a long lasting, low maintenance cost vehicle for driving in town.

  • @1stock1not
    @1stock1not 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Watch out for the 2az-fe that’s the 4cyl that’s in those rav4. Unless the campaign has been done they burn oil like mad especially if not not maintained. If you’re looking at one it’s worth pulling the plugs first for inspection. If there brand new walk away if there black as 2am and wet also walk away.

    Granted Mexico/USA are not assembling the engines/trans here they’re just putting them together here. But I will tell you from experience
    Drive one that’s been completely built & assembled in Japan or Germany (VW-Benz-etc) you WILL notice the
    Quietness and stability difference you fell more solid of a ride.
    The MATERIALS are better in Japan. Granted plastic is plastic but there’s a difference in quality of plastics
    The USA assembled one are more TIN/HOLLOW FEELING

      I have the 07 as well, with 236k miles, did you have to do anything with engine and transmission so far? I haven't, just wondering. Also, mine doesn't burn ANY oil.

    • @Vincent-ke5zn
      @Vincent-ke5zn 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @itwasnteveryfloor5038 I was referring to the RAV4 that Scotty was showing. I have an 07 Ford Focus with a manual transmission and 286k miles. I had to have the transmission and clutch replaced at 241k miles, but I'm not original owner. It has original engine and doesn't burn or leak any fluids

    • @derekgardin1512
      @derekgardin1512 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@Vincent-ke5znthose Focus are really reliable. The manual Trans usually are as well. I had a 2000 and 2001 ZX3 which were both great, the 2006 ZX5 manual was super reliable but also ended up with a Trans issue at 200k km. Threw a $250 junkyard one in and was good to go. Now have a manual 2013 Focus with 394,000km and runs like a top burns no oil and leaks nothing either. Good cars overall as long as you avoid the automatic ones from 2012-2018.

    You cant comment a car doesnt oversteer or understeer when youre just driving around at 20mph. It refers to at speed say on a track when youre cornering hard, thats where that would come into play. Touve said it multiple times and in the context youre using it is completely wrong.
