made an updated version of this with everything you can get from DSA and for what reasons things are given out ! th-cam.com/video/omIRdhd_fVU/w-d-xo.html
Just to expand (0:35) - CAMHS is a the UKs children’s mental health service, they have a good heart but from mine and others experiences it is pretty shit and doesn’t actually help, sometimes even makes things worse. I felt this video and just wanted to thank you for sharing! Easy to understand and follow! Also I’m glad to hear that it’s not like the horrible pip process! But thank god they extended it to COVID aha.
this was really helpful, thank you! i have asd and mh issues, and i didn’t know i qualified for this, but i’ll be applying for when i go to uni next year!
Thanks, this was really helpful! I've just got my diagnosis after 9yrs of fighting the nhs to find out what's wrong with me... I don't yet have the confidence to go through the PIP process just yet but will defo apply for disabled student allowance asap. Thanks for the helpful vid!
Hi Saskia, I just applied for it and DSA was absolutely amazing just waiting now. Thanks for the information. My assessment was 2 hours long but good. Thank you so much
@@saskiahdlt so much more relaxed than I thought it was going to be! I was sure I wouldn't qualify for much, but I'm being put forward for quite a bit of resources and support :)
Thanks, this has been helpful. I started uni last month. I'm entitled to DSA and have been given the equipment list which is just specs of each laptop. I'm really struggling with what to choose. I've been allocated note taking software but wondering if the standard sized laptop will be too big to fit on those tiny lecture chair/desks. I'd love to know how you're getting/ got on with the standard lenovo laptop, size and weight wise. Thinking of upgrading to a more compact lighter Windows laptop on the list for a bit more money as I walk a lot too.
hello, thank you for making this video! if this isn't too personal, can I ask why you were given these specific pieces of equipment? I'm waiting to have my assessment and have been granted DSA for borderline personality disorder, but I don't receive any study support right now from my school and I'm not really sure what DSA would offer to me/what would be helpful for me.
so the laptop was to run software like text to speech to help me process information etc, the desk was so i can work in bed on bad depression days, microphone is to record lectures, printer is so i can organise my notes in a way that makes me less anxious, also printer credit to be able to print etc!
Hi Saskia! Super useful video, thank you! :) What specific symptoms/reasons did they give the whiteboard for? Xx I think a whiteboard would be super helpful for me but I'm not sure how to phrase things in the 'right' way
just intrigued- when you first received your laptop was the fan noisy/ loud/ you could hear it? I have just gotten mine today and its gets really hot quickly and starts making loud fan noises cause the fan is on the bottom of the laptop
@@saskiahdlt oh dear- i thought it was normal especially if its a cheap model- mines an asus. I have sent an email asking why its like that when its brand new but dont know what they can do now? I wish it was just silent lol cause i dread taking it into lectures and it making these loud noises!
I was wondering when I should start applying for it? I haven't had all my offers back yet but I'm anxious to start. The only thing I worry about is my doctors haven't given my conditions definitive diagnoses, they say things like 'symptoms indicative of fibromyalgia/dpdr' so I'm really anxious about it!
i applied in march once i had accepted my offer for my specific university! im not sure if you have to have accepted offers to apply for it but you can apply in june/july and still get all your stuff sorted out before you start university. also its fine if they havent given a definitive diagnosis: mine didnt have a definitive diagnosis for a few bits and they dont really need a diagnosis as long as they explain the symptoms really.
This was super helpful! I need to get applying ASAP but my gp is being,,,, useless lol. Glad you could get so much help though and that they were so understanding! Out of curiosity how did you find out that your uni would repay the money for the laptop? Did they just tell you or did you have to specifically ask? xx
Elly B. they didn’t tell me but i found it on their website in the DSA and mental health section! an email might be helpful if your uni doesn’t explicitly say on their website though x
ellie smith they decide during the assessment what to recommend. so if you say yes to one question it links to a resource they might recommend. but they also flat out ask if XYZ would be helpful so you can decide. then they send it to student finance who decide what to approve! hope that helps :)
Hey can I ask what size screen your laptop you received is? Would you say it’s too big/ small? I’ve been recommended a 15.6” one but I’m not sure if that’s too heavy to carry around uni
Hiya so mine is 15” which is just kinda normal sized! It’s a bit bulky but also has so much more storage and I think is the perfect size! I have had an 11” before and it was easier to carry but worse image quality! So the DSA one isn’t too heavy and it fits in a tote bag or regular bag!
Thanks- also did I hear correctly that you chose the backpack and not the laptop sleeve? I don’t know which one to go for like which one is more useful
best of luck! i reapplied in june (literally last year) got 0 points again, went to MR, got 0 points again, and now (12 months later), still waiting for tribunal so the system still sucks!
The laptop they suggested for me is an i7, 500GB storage and 16GB RAM. I’ve also put in for iPad and Apple Pencil which he said might be harder to get but he’ll fight for it
Do they send the money to your account or do they just buy the equipment themselves & do they check up on you to see if your actually spending the money on equipment or on other things for example clothes?
I would assume so! I'm not entirely sure but as you apply when you do student finance and you cna get multiple loans I assume you could get DSA multiple times!
They spent 6 grand on my dsa but im thinking surely I could have spent that better honestly. Like scrap the 200 on grammarly and let me put more on the laptop
Thank you so much! 💓. Can i please ask you a question? Do you get any direct money because of your condition? I have a mental condition and i thought dva gave you a certain money every year? Correct me if im wrong. If they dont then who gives
