I’m glad you had a good experience! /gen I had an assessment that took 5 hours. One hour was talking and the rest were activity-style tests. She took my informants information strongly over my own, and later told me that autistic people don’t care about others and are aggressive towards her. She also said social anxiety is the “opposite” of autism. Long story short I’m going to see a different person now.
Thank you so much for sharing this video! I’m currently on the waiting list for an assessment and even though it’s not with Psychiatry UK, it’s super helpful to see all of the questions that they sent you. I’ve been waiting for almost a year now, so hopefully I get my assessment date soon!! Happy for you that your assessment went so well :)
I'm 62, I have 2 autistic gr,sons, one savant one none verbal. I know I'm neurodivergent but need assessment which happens in 2 hours. After watching Saskia I just hope I have all the correct responses for the 2 consultants. Done weeks of research but feel extremely vulnerable and afraid they'll misunderstand me.
I searched for a long time before I found a video from someone who had an assessment with Psychiatry Uk. Thanks so much for sharing this , I feel a lot better prepared. 🙏
14:40 theyre not 'odd' questions- any comorbidities might make it more difficult to diagnose or may interact with your autism and make it present differently. There are also significant overlaps between autism and autoimmune issues, depression, alcoholism etc.
I had an assessment yesterday. I was diagnosed at the end of the assessment. It was similar to yours in the way it was just a conversation, there wasn’t any weird tests or anything. It took about 4-5 ish months total from beginning to end.
Thank you for this video, Saskia. It was really helpful and reassuring. I'm on the waiting list for an assessment. I was diagnosed with adhd last year at the age of 57. It explained a lot of things but there was still a big piece missing. Autism will fill in another big piece of the puzzle that's been my crazy existence 🥴
Thanks for making this cool video. Doing my form just now, and really anxious. My sister says I'm definitely autistic and she's known for years. I'm really old now, but I want to know too. I did one of those on-line forms - I know they're not uber reliable, but it said I'm like off the charts. I don't think I'm that bad, but I kinda just know I am autistic.
Anyone waiting should have a look at solutions 4 diagnostics, I went with my right to choose forms to my doctor on Monday and by Thursday afternoon they contacted me and sent me the forms I needed to fill out, I filled these out straight away and they emailed me back with possible appointments which I went and booked in for next week, all in all less that 2 weeks from when I went to the doctor to getting my assessment, very positive experience so far
My 18 year old brother has very recently been diagnosed with ASD. We think his dad (my stepdad) most likely has it too but at 67, never diagnosed. I'm 35 and personally have ALWAYS struggled with sensory issues, (Especially clothing which affects me daily - hate changing my clothing and look to always buy the exact same clothes) but I don't really think I have enough of everything else to be diagnosed. I had a go on the RAADS-R and scored 92, with 30 in Sensory and 37 in social being the highest marked categories. I found quite a few of the questions tricky to know what to put though, I felt like I needed clarification or an example.
It's quite common (especially for autistics) to find some of the screenings tricky to understand! Definitely worth doing a few more screenings, and see if you can find examples of what they mean. Then you can take this to your GP if you'd like to pursue a referral. It could also just be that you have some traits (which I think most people do), but aren't autistic, so worth doing more screenings, and if you score above the threshold and are interested in knowing if you are or aren't autistic, you can then take this to a Dr.
Hi Saskia Thank you for your video. I have my NHS assessment ( online ) on the 2nd Dec. I am terrified! Terrified in case I am not and just a horrible person who doesn't fit in or I am autistic and ffs it took so long for them to notice and the years of bloody hell! Is this in Hampshire ? Me too !
how would they know if you were autistic from the getgo? Honestly I don't think it works like that. During the assessment your symptoms may or may not be present, but your history carries more weight.
Wow i love how you help us get organized and understand how the assessment works. I get very anxious when i dont know about processes and this makes a lot more relaxed although not fully relaxed. The stressing is big with this one here 😂 concerning your problems with the file...did you try to change the file extension? Youre trying to dowload and its .html...did you try to change the extension to .mp4 for example? The trouble identifying emotions or happiness could be alexythimia. Idk
whether its cos I used Clinical needs , but I had 2 assessment sessions. with 2 different people , the 1st I did alone, tht one I was asked about scenes from a children's story book, asked to explain what was happening , in a story format, I could only say what was happening. then I was asked to pick up 5 objects and make a story from them, I couldn't. the 2nd appointment , again online ,my informant (my mum) sat in on , which was hour band half, was much more intense, asked my mum alot about my early days, school, which like you I hated, for me cos i couldn't make friends, I was heavily bullied, right through school, physically and mentally, I was the school punchbag, which has left me scared of men and many types of women in my life, and I still have trouble making friends at 63. I now have alot of mental health problems, severe anxiety and depression . I've also been bullied mentally in my adult life too, that's what caused me to go sick from work in May 2021, ive been a bus driver since 1985, and it was nat at point that the bullying at work from other drivers, was affecting my concentration , and I had 2 accidents and 2 seriously near misses, none of them proved to be my fault, but I was scared for the next incident to be a fatal incident, so went sick, not worked since. my anxiety and depression has got much worse, and in therapy, which hasn't helped, only to highlight that I needed both ADHD and Autism screening, which I had at the end April/early May 2024, im now waiting my diagnostic feedback phone calls, on 21st June for ADHD, and @6th June for Autism, I was booked for the Autistic feedback call in 5th June, but it didn't happen, found out next day that it was cancelled, but I wasn't notified, the Clinician needed more time to complete my report as there were 2 questionnaires in my portal still not completed, so I completed them on 3rd June. I'll comment or make a video if I'm able to when I get my feedback reports I n the phone calls, the written reports can take up to 6 weeks to receive by email.
Huh I'm currently in the process of being diagnosed and I'm doing a bunch of cognitive and personality tests. Even a Rorschach test. I did WAIS, Tower of London, tap test, some memory tests, connecting numbers and letters... Some of those might also be for ADHD. And Rorschach is more for fun my psychologist said.
Great video, it would be great to hear more about emotions in love, what is love, what is being in love, i.e feeling butterflies? Could being in a relationship be one sided re masking? How does a neurodivergent understand being in love when discussing with a neurotypical. 🤔
Love is something you either feel or don't. Most autistic people can feel love, it's just hard to describe those of us who also have alexithymia. Relationships can be a whole other story tho bc sometimes we can't help it when we mask, and so opening up fully to someone can be really difficult bc most NTs just can't understand us.
im not autistic, im an alien. ok so i just took the raads-r thing and got like 190, and i think i may have given myself credit for "getting" what cats and dogs raining means. or like i feel like a mill... i mean, how does anyone not get it? i mean asking the question alone confuses me.. but whatever Anyways so yeah im an autistic alien.
Hi Saskia..as an Autistic person do you have friends ? Do you stare at a tank full of Water? Do you have a love life ? Does music make you dream ? Do you work ? Can you cook ?
hmm, i would disclose it as it shows you have a special interest, but bear in mind that SOME assessor will try to twist it to make u look like you are malingering!
@@flabbybum9562they did that with mine at first, and also said that because I had adhd and a job, there was no way I could be autistic (meanwhile, my job is working by myself on a farm with animals, and the rest of the 23 page report was a list of autism traits I had)
hi this actually isn't true! a clinician can use a range of sources like the ADI-R and others, and the ADOS2 isn't used that much on adults as it is 'play based' (or at all online). i did in fact have a full asessment, and was diagnosed after meeting all the criteria
I’m glad you had a good experience! /gen

Now thats some crazy bs you went through. So many of us have anxiety through the roof. Did you find another specialist?
Sounds like mine, it was incredible quick and far too lacking in an actual assessment.
Finding another.
@@User-nj4hr hi I was diagnosed autistic btw. New start and answer to why I felt so different all my life at age 54.

Hello there!! Im also autistic/adhd, I was diagnosed at a young age. Thank you for this video, decided to sub!

We’re all of the forms on paper ??? Man my questionnaires are all online.
It was all online, but send as a Word Document to fill in and then send back!
I did the AQ about 5 times a month or so apart and have gotten 45 each time.

either an instrumental song or wind
