About 6 years ago I was driving home from work and was stopped for going 8mph over and when the cop walked up next to my window and asked for my information he noticed a small baggie in my cars cupholder (a gram of weed I purchased earlier that morning I almost forgot about) and then searched my car, tested it, and put me in jail where I was bonded out 24 hours later. Fast-forward two weeks and I had my preliminary trial, another month and I was sentenced.
I was given 3 years of probation with random and monthly urine tests (which ended up being a year in jail). The court slammed me because I was supposedly a "repeat offender" due to having two prior weed charges as a teenager (over 40 years ago).
They would stop by my house at random times. One random UA was during the fucking Superbowl where I had drank one tall can of Coors Light because I felt safe as it was a Sunday and it was later in the day. NOPE!!!! My probation officer and two cops knocked on my door while my dad and I were watching the game (It was late in the 2nd quarter) and I had my beer sitting right on the table next to our chips and salsa and it was around half-drank.
The cops smelled alcohol on my breath, gave me a breathalyzer on the spot as well as watched me piss in a cup for them and promptly arrested me in front of my dad who was in shock (he was 86 at the time). The most fucked up thing about it all was that I only had a couple of months on my probation left!
So yeah, spent a year in jail after 2 years and like 9 months of only drinking "maybe" 6 beers? And of course zero pot which basically turned me into an anxious basketcase during the entire time.
Lost my fucking job of over 20 years that I loved, lost my rental (and everything inside it), lost my car, and basically had nothing but the clothes I wore the day I was booked into jail after the violation. Also, my aging father was in the nursing home and had developed dementia which pretty much brought me to tears because I knew his memory was getting fuzzy but he looked horrible and I'm not the type of guy who cries often.
So yeah, ended up getting a job at McDonald's at the age of 57 flipping burgers and living with my brother and his wife for three months until I saved enough money to get my own place and a cheap car.
All over a single $10 gram of weed, a natural herb that does no harm whatsoever.
Yet the guy in the video can drive nearly 160mph, KILL A WOMAN, and only get what will likely amount to three years in prison.
Yeah.... America's criminal justice system is totally fucked.

My point is, he was driving 150 mph on a public road. Whether or not he meant to kill that lady and her dog, he has the common sense to know that it is a possibility. Whether he shot her or not, he had zero regard for human life when he decided to drive that fast. A car can be used as a weapon the same way a firearm can. Her life is worth more than 3 years in prison. He's not going to learn any lesson from this. My friend killed his best friend in a drunk driving accident. He got 5 years in prison. The guilt and shame he lives with is much worse than prison time could give him. Point is, it's not voluntary manslaughter so it's different. Although, I agree it should be a harsher sentence, this isn't the way the judicial system works.

Drunk driving is an Choice no one forces your to go into a bar and drink there, and he could even just pay for an Uber, cut you bullshit „it was just an accident“ if that was an accident then oopsir woopsie then all the Nanjing massacre was an accident too,
It was an active choice from him to drink and drive, and to driving while being drunk is essentially you thinking „yes I heavily risk innocent people being hurt and killed by my reckless behavior but I take that risk“
Dude should have got at least as the bare minimum 15 years

Much respect to your comment and maturity on this subject. Idk if people who frequent TH-cam comment are just trolls or have a collective deteriorated ignorant mindset but as someone who studied Law in college, this is just about right especially when you read the entire court log and the details of the case.
Maybe society or people who commonly comment on comment section are just cold hearted people but it was an "accident". It wasn't 1st degree murder. He did not shoot or stab the girl or committed premediated murder. He got.into a car accident which resulted in death.

It was preventable. He could've just not hopped in his vehicle, and had someone else drive him, but he chose to drive drunk. Your poor choices have consequences.

Don't ever talk to me about racism or oppression again. This proves that is a lie.

This shows that it doesn’t matter the color/race/ethnicity etc. money is above everything. There has been cases where “accidents” (as someone calls it) under the influence have happened and get way more years even life and of course they’re not rich.
