I don’t know why we’d have to add prospects with Suzuki for cease…they get a him for 2 years at a good price, Cubs would get Cease for 1 and then have to pay him big $$$.
Ricketts gave us the only world title in 108 years. They consistently spend top 10 $ on the team. They have one of the absolute top farm systems. The stadium & area is unmatched. They don't "owe you" anything.
Disagree with Sam on Suzuki being a poor right fielder. He’s our best hitter. Just because the Cubs f***** up on signing Dansby Heyward doesn’t mean you make Suzuki the scapegoat. Trading Suzuki is the wrong move! His agent will tell Roki Sasaki to stay away from the Cubs.
@ While he’s not the best outfielder (but he’s serviceable), he more than makes up for it otherwise. Relegating him to DH duties was/is a mistake and obviously he and his agent are not thrilled about it. I’m certain this will hinder ANY opportunity of the Cubs acquiring Roki Sasaki.
@@kevinloeffler7909he’s not that bad. The reason he doesn’t play now is because we have the best OF defense. OFs like Soto and Casty still play RF then why not Seiya
Paredes and Caissie plus another player for Tucker then Cubs sign Bregman. I still see the Cubs being a silent player for Bregman. Great bat, gold glove caliber, and probably cheaper than Alonso or any of the other big bats. If the Cubs had Bregman and Tucker on the team they’d be a strong team finally.
I understand the balance act of prospects, reducing payroll of the outfield, etc. I like Suzuki, and I like Bellinger. Eitherway this story that we are willing to trade Suzuki probably took us out of the Roki running. Defensively who backs up PCA at center? Who backs up Boush at 1st? Id be willing to give Bellinger another year and see if hes healthy he can get back to 2023. Of course we all want a superstar like Tucker, but not on a 1 year rental.
Kyle Tucker is the baseball equivalent of James Harden. Monster numbers in the regular season, ghost in the the postseason (.229 average with 8 homers in 219 AB's). Take him.
Sam, The biggest kick I got out of you winning your bet on the Bengals last night was Chris Collinsworth calling that td on ESPN 2 with Peyton & Eli. He said I believe Burrow throws a TD to Chase and Bengals win by 7, sure enough a few plays later that was what happened.
This is a bit depressing. We’re Locked On Mediocrity. We just seem to be floundering for whatever reason. I’m impressed by Jacob, however. I see why Sam lauded him. Will continue to reserve judgment until the dust clears but seems very frustrating right now from a Cubs perspective. Very sorry to hear the news on Ryno. That is also depressing. Praying for him and his family.
All of you taking Seiya wrong please don't take what his stupid agent said as true. He did say to the Japanese press that he'd like to play the field because he takes pride in being an all around player but, he did say as well that he wants to earn it back because IT'S HIS OWN FAULT for losing the trust in the first place.
If they trade for Tucker, they NEED to extend him. The cost would be too high for 1 year and like Sam said their not close to being a contender as of right now
Bringing Tucker in and signing him to 10/400 and trading for Cease would definitely be the HUGE shakeup I'm clamoring for. And Sam get's his superstar. Question is, what is needed for tucker? You obviously don't want to move PCA or Shaw. But perhaps a Horton, Cassie, Rojas then a couple young MLers like Wicks and Asad? I wouldn't want to trade Brown though.
Come on guys. Nats traded Soto, Padres traded Soto, Brewers traded Burnes/Hader, yet we cannot trade Suzuki? Isn't Cease a one-year rental? No thanks. The Cubs are not going to trade prospects for one year of Tucker. He will easily command $400 m next winter. Go for Logan Gilbert not Castillo. Shaw and Caissie will do just fine this year.
The trade rumors around Seiya nearly made me punch a hole in the wall and if they do trade him I’m gonna be very disappointed but at the end of the day if they do it will open up a spot for Owen Caissie and Moises Ballesteros and with Nico possibly being traded it allows room for Shaw to come up but man this offseason has been very frustrating
Tucker might be the only realistic player I'd be happy trading just about anyone in the cubs system for... my offseason would look like nico/belli to sea for louis castillo. Then pretty much anyone but Shaw in a deal for Tucker.
Also, how in the world could Cody opting in have ruined Jed's plan for the offseason? As in, how could Jed have possibly thought he would be going to free-agency. No one wanted him last season when he hit .310! Who would pay him more after regressing to .270?
Jacob is probably in the know, but it surely is discouraging. Jed only knows how to bargain hunt. Same old, same old "foolish spending". Big market team acting like a small market team. Is this really coming from Ricketts? Who knows the answer to that question?
As a cardinals fan I hate the cubs with a passion we all complain our mid market cheap owner don’t spend but it must be painful with a top 3 market in baseball not spending money
I am with Jed and I understand him. He is going to go down doing his way! He is not going to drive by the emotions, the FOMO (fear of missing out in stock term) to make decisions doesn’t fit his theory and belief. And I am 100% behind him. What a Santander can help us? And block Cassie??? This guy is a career .246 hitter, common, career OPS is .776, he only had two year of HR over 30, one year RBI over 100. Is he better than Happ or Suzuki? Yes! But by how much ?? You gonna pay 30m for him, to bat DH or RF, which will block Cassie! Again, for Soto I can understand. Tucker I will say ok, he at least is a five tool player and a gold glover. I will trade and extend him whatever he wants, then slowly bring up Cassie as a 4th outfielder for two years before Happ contract expires. Not Santander!!!
I do wonder...is there a single coach on the cubs staff? Is there ANYONE within the organization who can evaluate a player's skills and deficiencies and help the progress? Why did the old core become awful? Why can't our new core progress? Why was Cody able to have a great season but not able to sustain it? Why can't Happ become the hitter he showed promise of being? Why is it a forgone conclusion that players come to Wrigley to stagnate and fade away?

BIG deal 😂. I am a Cubs fan of 60 years. I am thankful we won a World Series in my lifetime. The Cubs are a second rate organization, in a top revenue market with WORLD CLASS LOYAL FANS. with the Brewers, Cardinals, Braves, Phillies, Mets, Dodgers and Giants all trying to be better. We will be fortunate to win 81 games next year.
Possible 3 team trade idea. Cubs would get Tucker from Houston, send them Alcantara. Cubs would send the Yankees Bellinger and Nico with the Yankees sending Houston via Chicago Will Warren and Jorbit Vivas. Cubs get the impact bat. Yankees get replacement for 1B/OF and 2B. Astros get MLB ready young prospects with 5 years of control or more.
@@beanbilly6953 Yes. They give up 2 people they are looking to move and another for a guy who put up a 4+ WAR in half a season. It's a risk seeing as Tucker could walk after 25, but the Cubs would also open up a spot for Shaw and about 22M in CBT space. Then they could call up the Mariners and see how they'd feel about Paredes and Amaya for Castillo and Ford. Cubs get the final piece for the rotation and a strong C who should be ready this year. It would cost the Cubs about 16 in CBT, so they'd still be up about 6M. Offer Bregman 3Y105M to hold down 3B until Cam Smith is ready. And offer Scott 5Y75M to lock up the pen. Cubs would still be under the CBT and as ready as possible to compete for a title. If they don't bring in Bregman, they could still let Shaw have 3B and use the 35M to see if Tucker would extend. Offer him 7Y230M, including this season. That's just under 33M AAV through his age 35 season.
If they trade Suzuki, their best hitter, for prospects and maybe 1 serviceable major league player, that's a sign they're tearing it down and rebuilding. If so, I'm out as a fan, at least for the next 5 years or so when they might be competitive again. The sad thing is, they could be competitive now if they weren't such skinflints. They're only like 2 better than average players away from being a playoff team, not even star players. Between the Cubs and the Bears, it's hard to say which is more infuriating.
Why would they rebuild? They're ready. They have one of the Top-3 farm systems in all of baseball and a rich af owner (who doesn't want to spend). Trading Suzuki isn't a sign they're tearing it down & rebuilding, they just had two consecutive winning seasons, granted playoff-free. Trading Suzuki could just be about moving a disgruntled player who doesn't want to DH while his trade value is at its peak, which isn't an awful idea. It's just if they trade him, he should be replaced with a win-now player... not Owen Caissie.
Totally agree normally but if they are shopping him potentially anyone who gives up prospects or other players is going to want more than a rental. Seems a good way to give him a solid contract and trade him. Win win for both. Probably won’t happen I know but if it does that is what the cubs should look to do.

I just want to know who iin the hell the cubs are replacing Suzuki, Belli, and whoever else if theyre traded lol they needed to ADD 1-2 power hitters not remove the only ones currently with any power besides happ lol i just dont know anymore if this team is serious
Yankees being ahead of the Cubs in a Tucker trade makes no sense from Morosi. Maybec they are more desperate & therefore more likely. But Yankees dont have half what the Cubs do as far as player value & variety available to trade.
Kyle Tucker would be a dream, but if they're not planning on signing him long term to what he'll be able to command on the open market, which I don't see them doing, then don't bother. And absolutely NO on Santander. He's a glorified Patrick Wisdom. Cubs need fewer strikeouts and more OBP in our lineup. I don't care how much power you have. You'll never compete for a World Series with a lineup full of strikeouts.
The Cubs have champagne taste on a beer budget. LMAO Don't trade all your prospects for a player you won't be able to resign next year . Cubs need more than a few players to make a difference in the playoffs.
Sorry but nah, a .283 avg, 21 HR, 73 RBI player doesn't have an insane bat. He's good. Nothing more. Top 20 bat? Means every contending team has a couple players who are better.
Dude seriously are we gonna make some moves or what?! Just read we are are out of the crochet discussion! Look either we make trades and grab free agents or we need to sell EVERYONE, not something in between.
If Swanson didn't have his contact, We would be putting Nico and SS and trading Dansby right? People talk Bellinger, Swanson's contract is reallllly bad. That's the 1 you attach Bellinger for free to if the Yankees would take Swanson too 🤷🏻😅 Cubs get back a Mid level prospect 😅.
Glad you are not in charge! Here's a line up for you. C Amaya 1B Belli 2B Hoerner Shaw SS Swanson Workman 3B Busch LF Tucker CF PCA RF Tucker DH Suzuki I would go yo war with that line up! Stand pat Cubs!
Boys… this is so dumb. The Padres have Tatis in Right and Cease is a god. Suzuki is…??.?.?? Why would they make that trade. Not happening unless the cubs throw in Caissie which would be stupid
Dumb. Thinking 1yr of Cease is worth 2yrs of Suzuki is dumb....and saying we would give MORE on top of Suzuki is ridiculous. I could see Suzuki plus something else for Tucker.
I told you it is wise not to compete with Dodgers Yankees Mets Redsox Phillies THIS YEAR! Your team is not ready, you go over the luxury tax to sign a Santander or Fried this year, what? You are still behind Dodgers, Mets, Braves, Padres, Phillies !!! And next year you gonna go over the level two tax? For what? Get closer to them! Now you screwed, your prospects are not playing, you stuck at paying millions tax for a first round exit! And you think the fans will be happy that you went over the tax and still not winning???
It is weird that Suzuki won 5 gold gloves in Japan. An area known for fine defensive players. Now he cannot catch a fly ball? I think his depth perception is bad. Not sure if he should be wearing contacts? Has he had an eye exam? Could the problem be that simple? But as it is, Cody is a Gold Glove guy in RF and better than what we have seen from Suzuki. But if his eyes are bad, that explains his late jumps on line drives and dropping fly balls. But Cease for Suzuki would work. We need a stud right hander and we can find a DH even from within the AAA asset market. Moises maybe? But do not trade Suzuki until you sign Sazaki. LOL. And I would not give up on Cody yet. Again, down year with broken ribs, fingers, and the wind blowing in every day. Having him and Tucker would be great. Still need Yates too to close.
Sam, is this the same Seiya that you were talking about in late June along w Happ who did nothing to help the offense when the season died? He was on a 17HR 63 runs driven in pace as a #3 hitter before he padded his stats the last 6 weeks... Sam, you called him out and didn't want to hear about the quoting of stats after the season and now youre saying how great he is now.... he hits 1 HR w men on base per 30 PA and 26 at-bats.... thats pitiful... hes a walk, singles hitter who doesnt drive the ball enough w men on base... maybe its time for Seiya to report to Arizona soon and work on his core w Cubs trainers so he's not gimpy for 2 months again like the last 2 years... Cody 2023 was the key guy driving in runs... There is no great hitter on this team except for Bellinger being close in 2023, just keep him away from the fence
How is Seiya a top 15-20 hitter with 21hrs and 73 rbi? He, like the rest of the team, played better against lesser teams in August and September when cubs out of it. Not a clutch hitter Sam that's your thing. Not much different in stats from Bellinger who is also excellent outfielder. Don't see the argument and being emotional guys
Please. I hope Seiya will be traded. He said “some one in cubs told me weather is amazing and not cold. They lied to me”. Also after this season “ Of course I didn’t do well enough but, I wanna defense right field from next year. Something I’m proud to do”. Being in cold weather and have to work for liar and made pretty bad mistakes for defense. As a selfish Japanese ball player fan, this is unacceptable. There are worse defensive guy out there playing. I hope he gets traded to west coast or cubs give another chance.
Congrats, Jacob!!! Love to see you out there- been connected with you on twitter/ “X”, great to see you on my favorite podcast now, too.

Roki already isn’t coming. Sazuki coming out acting like he was disrespected put an end to that.
Source: Trust me, bro
Suzuki
Some big market teams giving out 700 mill contracts. This big market team trying to unload money. Hawkins is bringing the gaurdians to chicago
I just want to know who iin the hell the cubs are replacing Suzuki, Belli, and whoever else if theyre traded lol they needed to ADD 1-2 power hitters not remove the only ones currently with any power besides happ lol i just dont know anymore if this team is serious
man if we just don’t do anything that would be such a joke. we need pitching bad and this team just isn’t worth getting excited for
42 mins wow like a drama series on amc 😂
Yankees being ahead of the Cubs in a Tucker trade makes no sense from Morosi. Maybec they are more desperate & therefore more likely. But Yankees dont have half what the Cubs do as far as player value & variety available to trade.
Guys Seiya hit 21 hrs and liability in field. I would do Cease for Seiya in 2 minutes. Keep Bellinger over Seiya.
Anything below
anything below
The rebuild is starting
Ricketts doesn't know how to run a baseball team. He loves money to much.
The Cubs have champagne taste on a beer budget. LMAO Don't trade all your prospects for a player you won't be able to resign next year . Cubs need more than a few players to make a difference in the playoffs.
You need to make room for young players. He's always injured.
Hoyer is destroying this team
Sorry but nah, a .283 avg, 21 HR, 73 RBI player doesn't have an insane bat. He's good. Nothing more. Top 20 bat? Means every contending team has a couple players who are better.
Dude seriously are we gonna make some moves or what?! Just read we are are out of the crochet discussion! Look either we make trades and grab free agents or we need to sell EVERYONE, not something in between.
could the Cubs trade Suzuki ?
Is the Pope Catholic ?
What if they trade Seiya for
Yu Darvish and a minor leaguer a #3-#12 prospect.
Only if the logic is Roki wants CHC and he wants to play with Yu
If Swanson didn't have his contact, We would be putting Nico and SS and trading Dansby right? People talk Bellinger, Swanson's contract is reallllly bad. That's the 1 you attach Bellinger for free to if the Yankees would take Swanson too 🤷🏻😅 Cubs get back a Mid level prospect 😅.
Glad you are not in charge! Here's a line up for you.
C Amaya
1B Belli
2B Hoerner
Shaw
SS Swanson
Workman
3B Busch
LF Tucker
CF PCA
RF Tucker
DH Suzuki
I would go yo war with that line up! Stand pat Cubs!
Jed shedding payroll
Jesus loves you Seiya
Saski is going to the padres you fools that’s a done deal
Boys… this is so dumb. The Padres have Tatis in Right and Cease is a god. Suzuki is…??.?.?? Why would they make that trade. Not happening unless the cubs throw in Caissie which would be stupid
Cubbies not getting Roki
Look as long as hoyer is here get yourself prepared for bullshit as always, he is so pitiful, and so are the rickets actually
No
Happ should be one gone
289 23hr 80 rbi ?? Really you think Tucker is that good that’s Ian hap numbers
Look at his averages the last few years. And he hit 23 HRs in half a season last year. Hes legit
"You are... locked on 83 wins!"😂
I think the players miss David Ross too and Cousell is a 💩 manager vying for power.
Nobody in their right mind misses Ross the Manager
if the cubs dont make the playoffs jed hoyer will be gone
It ain’t happening captain
If he is agreat player, you bettcha. Would not want to win too many games.
Ricketts is cheap. Sell the team to an owner that wants to build a dynasty.
What did Seiya hit in may and June. Weren't singing his praises then.
if you're entire premise is just "spend money" then you aren't going to be a reporter. Being an immature fan isn't what a journalist is.
*not in cubs. I think cubs outfielder are excellent and maybe that’s why he’s DH. Still need him to play RF
