On my drive home with my Prevost I noticed a higher frequency vibration that seemed to be a driveshaft issue. I was correct that it was a driveshaft issue, but quickly found the removal was going to be more difficult than I'd hoped.

Love your videos on the Prevost. Please keep them coming. I am converting a 1998 H3-41 motorcoach to a motorhome. Lots of everything to upgrade and fix.

Three years ago I picked up a 40 foot diesel pusher in really nice shape for dirt cheap because it had a vibration that they couldn’t figure out. It had been at a truck shop after breaking a u joint I’m assuming he got stuck and tried rocking it back-and-forth and broke the u joint it damaged the shocks, the air dryer the airbags the guy spent $19,000 Fixing it and still had a vibration. I picked it up dirt cheap put a new driveline in it pulled the differential out. Had two bearings replaced at a local shop put it all back in cost me about $2000. Most shops have no idea what they’re doing. It was a compound issue of a bent driveshaft, two bad bearings in the rear end because the yoke was not properly torqued down to spec and the ride height being set in properly after they fixed it you’re better off doing everything yourself. Most mechanics are incompetent and just throw parts at it.

That's an excellent diagnostic on your part. You're right, a lot of times these sorts of issues are complicated and there's more than one thing going on. Many mechanics these days are more parts swappers rather than an actual mechanic that can perform a good diagnosis and proper repair.
I'm definitely way happier doing all this work myself.

Watching all of your videos on the Prevost and I appreciate the ton of useful info. Would love a video on some routine maintenance on fluids as well as a pre-trip inspection. I picked up my 2000 xl2 about a year and a half ago and I’m pretty sure I’m neglecting some stuff that I shouldn’t. Thanks for the great vids 👍

Glad you're enjoying my videos! I do have some general maintenance ones in queue to make and publish, so look for some more of those in the coming months. My most recent video falls under that category - it discusses the air dryer desiccant cartridge and the auxiliary air system filter.
I've added your suggestion for a pre-trip inspection to my list as well, I hadn't thought about doing a video on that. Feel free to make any other suggestions for videos you'd like to see as well.

I believe for towing they actually disconnect the drive axles by removing them at the wheel ends and usually put some type of temp cover over the holes to keep the oil in.

Very good point - I’ve seen and heard of it being done both ways - but if this driveshaft had been put in wrong a long time ago I think it would’ve damaged the differential by now. However I don’t have any way of knowing one way or the other how it was handled.

Been there done that, and yes, why do people including the pros, not lubricate things when they are supposed to be lubricating things. My u-joints were dry as well. I haven't had that conversation with Cummins because I haven't been back there yet, but believe me I will. Mine has the strap connections on both ends so I didn't have to press the caps out like you did. Your driveshaft is longer than mine, but that makes sense, you have the tag axle to get past. I do not have room to sit up under mine however and it was all done laying on my back.

I’ve been buying virtually all my parts directly from Prevost.
