    Got this basket for my birthday a few months ago. My putts aren't as fast as yours, but still, more often than not, the chains don't catch the discs haha. Also, the basket is ripping at most of the end points. I agree, this disc catcher is not worth it.

    I bought this basket after watching this review with the intention of modifying it. I used some metal chain, specifically the kind used to hang hanging flower pots, and connected all the plastic chains in 3 spots each. Now it catches just fine but is still super portable. I really appreciate the review since I was able to plan the upgrade before buying it. Thanks!!

    I just ziptied the metal ring down to the supports inside the basket. It gives the chains more tension so they catch better. But make sure not to tie them too tight, or the discs will launch right back out like a slingshot.

    Good video. I received one of these as a gift. Yes, not the most robust basket based on the lightweight, plastic chains. As aptly demonstrated in your video instead of dampening/catching the chains fly apart when the disc hits (especially with 30+mph putts). To fix ... I bought 20' of #1 double loop chain for $8 and zip tied it to the chains concentrically around the basket in three, separate levels. I then wrapped the excess around the loop at the bottom to give it a little more weight and fine tuning the resistance. Catches MUCH better now. Good for a basement target during the winter.

      @@HuckingPlastic I got it and while it doesn't catch great, it's exactly what I expected for being so inexpensive. The plastic chains make it quiet and good to avoid disturbing the neighbors. If you hit the pole in the center the discs almost always drop into the basket, so it forces your aim to be more precise. It's also super light weight so I can toss it in my truck and take it to the park or whatever. Pleased with my purchase.

      @@user-uy3eq5hg1s The way I always looked at cheap sport stuff (skateboard, snowboard, bmx... discgolf!) is that if you get something cheap, you are shooting yourself in the foot. Who's buying those cheap sport stuff? Begeniners obviously. They don't wanna spend a lot of money because they aren't sure if they will like it. Then they buy the cheap stuff and abandon the sport because they don't like it even though they never had a chance to actually try the sport with some good equipement (first time snowboarder with some cheap Walmart board for example). If they actually still like it and start to practice a lot, they are the one who needs the most practice to get the correct technique down but are using a really bad technique to compensate for the crap product. Skateboard is a perfect example for this. A cheap board lacks so many things (even the shape is different on a cheap board) that you are training yourself the wrong way by compensating for the cheap product. I'm sure you heard how bad the disc from Franklin sports are... Imagine training yourself with those disc. They turnover SO easily that if you train yourself to make them go straight you will always end up shooting spike hyzer once you get some real disc. Now back to the basket. I think it's bad because it trains you to putt slow (doesn't catch fast disc, they just fly through it) so you will just putt all wobbly because you don't want any power in it in case the plastic chain doesn't catch it (which is always). To end this wall of text haha, I say just support the actual brand who make quality product who also make the sport progress in a way (new technology) and if you don't wanna spend the money, buy second hand. That's how I actually started disc golf. Bought 3 innova disc (fairway, mid, putter) and ended up buying 9 disc from a dude I met on the field one day that wanted to get rid of his older disc that he doesn't use anymore.

      @@HuckingPlastic The cheap stuff is nice to have in the backyard to have some fun with or toss in the car for a round at the park with friends. No one is ordering this basket to become a disc golf champion. However you could modify it by removing the plastic chains and installing metal ones, which I read other reviewers did and it helped the basket catch a lot better. The foundation as a foldout basket is totally there on this, it's basically just the chains that cause the most functionality issues. But again I don't mind because it's quiet and good for the backyard.

  • @shatterpointgames
    @shatterpointgames 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    To me the draw of this one isn't the price, it's the portability. For home stationary practice it's worth investing in a proper one for not much more. But with some modifications you could bring this out with your buds and set up a golf course wherever you want without breaking your back. I suppose you could just use a camping chair though, it probably catches just as good lol.

    I have to agree it’s hot garbage, but I continue to use mine.
    I sewed some thin hemp cord through each connection point on the top and bottom after they began tearing through. (Conveniently the end of each rod has a plastic cap with a hole in it. I assume because this is clearly a repurposed umbrella mechanism.) No more tear-through.
    I modified the hole on an old patio umbrella base to be small enough to hold the pole. No more falling over from hard putts or wind.
    It still of course does not catch very well if I’m not literally hitting the pole horizontally and vertically dead center or gently lofting the disc in.
    I actually kinda like how unforgivable it is-forcing me to be extremely accurate to make any putt. Knowing most of the spit-outs I get would have gone in on a real basket.
    That said I may end up also replacing the plastic chains with metal.
    I’m torn because in addition to the added challenge, the plastic chains are incredibly quiet which is great when I’m practicing glow putting 30 feet away from the windows of sleeping neighbors.
    Also the Nite Ize LED dog-collars I use to illuminate the basket light up those white plastic chains really nicely.

    Bought 4 for a school program. Cheap, but you get what you pay for. Just started the program here at this school and we had to start with minimal funding to see if the students even had interest. Now that they do, we can ask for more sturdy baskets. Do you have a suggestion? They have to be easily set up and taken down.
