Unpopular opinion: Children didn't CHOOSE to be born, and paying for welfare, food, housing and medical attention is expected for the parents to provide. Kids don't owe their parents anything at all except when they ask for unnecessary expenditures.

    • @hauntedshadowslegacy2826
      @hauntedshadowslegacy2826 2 ปีที่แล้ว +676

That opinion is only unpopular among abusive, narcissistic 'parents'. Everyone else just calls that 'an actual goddamn fact'. Better yet, some places in the world deem it 'a legal duty' that can result in a 'parent' losing custody of their child.

All these parents of trans people make me really sad because it reminds me of my sister's wife, whose parents went fucking nuclear when she came out as trans.
It also makes me appreciate my own mom *(very* religious) who after being simultaneously hit with "I'm bi" and "My boyfriend is my girlfriend" in one conversation only had a brief meltdown blaming herself as a failure before realizing pitying herself is the exact thing she shouldn't be doing right now and instead focused all of her efforts on supporting my sister and her girlfriend.

My mother acted perfectly normal when I came out as trans at my birthday and then dropped me off at the rotting shack I converted into shelter because she refused to take us in in an emergency when we could pay her for it and then promptly disowned me. She literally mourns my death every year on my birthday and views me as the monster that killed her son (literally me). She claimed to be Wiccan and to support LGBT people right up until it effected her. I wasn't surprised. She had always been a narcissist, violent mess of a person.

That one lady homeschooling her kid is doing it wrong. I was read to almost every day when I was homeschooled as a child and my mom took my education very seriously.
My parents eventually divorced and I had to go to a normal school, but when I tested in and was put into the right grade, I was way ahead of almost everyone in my reading comprehension and math skills. Also history and writing as well.
Not all homeschooled kids are behind and not all parents who choose to do it are lazy.

I'm behind in everything because I was put into program classes for behaviour (I was waiting on an autism diagnosis, because people thought I was intentionally defiant) and have spent most of my life being harrassed and bullied by peers, this last semester being the final straw that led my mother to actually hear me and put me in online schooling.

My mother apologized for ONE small aspect of her mental abuse of me when I was younger. Not because she's a good person, but because she was distraught that I was trans. When I told her that I accepted her apology, but that I was born trans and she hadnt done anything to make me trans, she began to try and manipulate me by saying "it was incredibly hard for me to say that, and now you won't even listen to me"
Honey, I just told you I was trans.

My mother and I apparently have the same mental health struggles but she's never talked to me about it, just tried to force me to try her "suggested" "cures" and "encourage" me to make decisions about my future that are "what I want" and will "make my life better." (They're "suggestions" but she gets mad at me if I don't do them) She also tries to force conversations about stuff like gender and sexuality and how accepting she is if I come out because she found out I was eating lunch with some people who are gay in high school and I once wanted to wear a suit instead of a dress to a formal event.
And then she wonders why I don't want to talk to her or hang out with her.

I'm so sorry! Glad you're out tho & living authentically! ❤🌺 My mom did the same, only apologized one time in her life. The reason? Bc the juvenile Judge on our case called her out specifically. Judge said "no matter where we place her(me) they always call her a 'wonder child' bc she behaves so well. This leads me to believe the problem is inside the home, not with your daughter."
Mom was mortified. I still had to serve out my time, too. 🥺 Ages 13 to 16, in jail, foster & group homes. Absolutely scarring experiences. She apologized randomly during a car ride a while after that. More than i was ever expecting. 🙄
You know the worst part? I accepted the apology & have continued to speak to her, bc she's such a flaming narcissist that it made *me* feel bad for *her?!*
I'm 36 now. Went NC when I was 16 when I moved out, but felt an obligation to speak to her sometimes. Moved 8,000 miles away now, to South India with my husband, finally safe from that sick family. This week finally confronted the fact my father committed CSA against me, sister & cousins. 😭
So I'm going NC from him, obvs, probably forever.
So sorry to ramble. 🤦🏼‍♀️ It's therapeutic to share our stories & show support. Solidarity to all of you. ✊ We don't get to pick our families, unfortunately, but we can adopt new ones! My husband's family is my adoptive family. I now know what a healthy, normal relationship looks like. 🥲
Form new bonds & cut the toxic ones out! Life will be infinitely better for it! Solidarity to all of you, it's gonna be ok. 🥺❤

Homeless by 21 (got a home now)and she compared me to a rapist for being trans last year, to which I blocked her social media. Now she keeps phoning me to say she wants to 'give the stuff back' I have explicitly stated that I do not want this stuff so give it to charity, but she is more wiling to take it 20 miles to my flat rather than take it to a charity shop (thrift/goodwill store) that is practically next door, trying to make me feel guilty because she 'might become homeless'
I'm almost 28, she trashed most my stuff so i have no idea what she's trying to give me and I've lived without it long enough I can say easily that I don't want it

Funny thing about that whole "name brand" thing. I live in a ridiculously wealthy area but both my daughters were voted best dressed in their classes from 9th-12th grade. I never bought anything from a retail store that wasn't for a very special occasion.
I spent my money at thrift stores, online auctions & searched online for up & coming designers who wanted to practice designing something that I would then purchase for cost of materials & their time. I picked through until I found something unique & cute or a designer I liked, then I spent the few dollars it took after I bought it to have it tailored to fit them. They never looked like any of the other kids & I didn't care so much if they ruined whatever article of clothing somehow. Most people don't realize that rich people look rich because of quality fabric, craftsmanship & then tailoring...mostly, it's the tailoring. It's not really about name brand anything. Most uber rich people don't buy things with super prominent logos anyway. You only need those logos if you need everyone else to know what you have.

@@chatboulon743 yea my daughters, now 18 & 22 still LOVE thrift stores. They like not having the same exact clothes everyone in the area has currently & they like not supporting the exploitation of people in other countries. I still have relationships with a few of the designers that I formed years ago, some of who you probably know now that I do still purchase from for special occasions.
Idk, I retired in my 30s so I didn't want to needlessly waste money when I had the time & abilities to do things differently. My daughters still get asked where they got certain things & I've even had people try to buy the jacket made especially for me by one of those designers when they were hired by a house while I was wearing it several times (a thanks for believing in me gift that I totally didn't expect at all). Almost nothing we have has prominent logos, although some of it can be designer. The girls mix their lace tanktops from Target or Walmart or old band Tshirts from their uncle or late father with jeans they maybe got from an auction & a leather jacket & boots they maybe got from thrift stores but it all fits like it was made for them so it just looks different when they wear it. My best advice for looking well put together that I got from my wealthy parents was find a good tailor. I always did &, even though I spent thousands less than other parents here, my girls always got compliments. Idk I enjoy the hunt maybe?

I dressed my daughter almost entirely from thrift stores the whole time she was growing up. We treated it as a treasure hunt, finding great stuff for a fraction of the price. Considering that she was still growing at age 18, it made much more sense (and was a lot more fun) going into a retail store and paying ridiculous amounts of money for something my daughter would outgrow in six months. All it took for her to look great was some sewing skill and an awareness of the current fashions.

Fourth, Autism was always normal; it's just that people acted like it wasn't, likely due to lack of knowledge. Also, with the mRNA vaccines, the people having a severe-immune-response to them will almost certainly have a near-lethal immune-response to the virus itself. That was actually one of the reasons why the 1919 Influenza Pandemic was so fatal: healthy people's immune systems overreacted to the virus so severely, it ended up killing them.

@@standardhuman8675 Thanks. Basically my mental health recently has been decreasing a lot lately, both because of school and because of home life. After almost calling a hotline recently I decided I needed a small break and "ran away" to a friend's place for 3 days without telling dad. Probably kinda stupid but I really just needed a break. I just came home and he basically just told me to go to my room and we'll talk about it later. He knows I'm having problems by the way, he just kinda ignores it because school is more important to him. Then at some point I giggled a little bit because I was on tiktok to calm me down a little bit and he heard it since I don't have a door and was like "you better not be watching stupid shit right now, I'd advise you to do something that'll put me in somewhat of a good mood" and I'm not sure why but that just kinda caused me to break down. I'm a little better by now due to said distraction and texting the friend who's house I was at but yeah that's basically it

I love the fact that the mother with the kid who wanted his own table assumed that the waitress called the manager over fear for her tip, and not the fact that she was concerned about a relatively unsupervised child being a HUGE liability. Like even if you are sitting in sight of the kid, I would be really concerned about the kid choking, or breaking something, or just causing a mess and the mom being too far away to notice and respond quickly. Restaurant employees aren't babysitters. And have you ever tried to take a five year old's order without the parent there to clarify? What if the kid ordered something more expensive than he could afford? You know mom would throw a fit if her kid ended up ordering like $50 worth of food. What if the kid ordered something he was allergic to? What if the kid ordered something he didn't realize he didn't like? What if the kid ordered something alcoholic and didn't like it when the waitress told him no. Also, everyone else in the restaurant who didn't know what was going on would definitely be concerned. Which means that waitstaff would spend the entire meal explaining and probably reassuring random people that these five year olds sitting alone at a table wouldn't ruin everyone else's evening. I have SO MANY images in my mind of how this could go wrong and lead to parent or child having a tantrum in the middle of the restaurant.

The Karen who demanded the teacher not to use the word "steal" when talking about her daughters action (and baiscally any other insane parent demanding other people not using certain to describe the actions the parents or their f**k trophies are doing) reminds me often of a post I read/heard about a while back. OP worked at a store that sold toys (I think it was something like a dollar store) and a mother and her was near the checkout area. The mother kept sayign "Octopus! Octopus!" to the kid. When asked about it the mother said she used as a substitute word for "No". Because she "DiD'nT WanT tO raIse HeR ChiLd WiTh aNy NeGatIViTy". One time I told my sister that no I wouldn't and couldn't come over to her house which is in the opposite direction of mine as I had exams to study for and a large amount of homework to do, that same day I had also had water spilled on me and told that someone like me shouldn't be able to get lunch. Overall I just wasn't feeling it and I really needed to revise without looking after a 2 year old for 6 hours while managing my social life and studying. She then sent me texts saying that "you're always like this, you just hate me, you just hate -insert nephews name- you just hate our family" she then got on video xall afger spamming me and brought my little nephew over and said "look bub! They dont love you at all!" And made him cry. I was pissed off because im fine with the angry texts but making my nephew the little boy who calls me his older sibling cry just because I said no? Thats over the line. I blocked her and didn't speak to her whenever around her, only my nephew, this poor 2 year old who has no clue what I really going on around him since he's still just 2. She then came over, ordered food after me and my mum cooked dinner left trash everywhere and let him draw on the walls when we were out, she doesn't take any responsibility and I'm sick of it. There isn't really any happy ending since this all just happened after the course of 4 weeks (exams were 3 weeks ago and she came over 4 days ago and refused to leave)
Edit: she left this morning after I left for school to get some exam results back, so far I've passed all my exams! Math, french, science, English, it and history! I still have my geography exam to get back so I'm hoping for the best!

My very late 2 cents, on the "learning to read" thing.
People go through development stages where they are at the prime (mental) age to learn such things as walking, talking and reading as well! This is basically a window of focus where the person is inherently interested in the subject (Babies, starting to stand up or todlers making "ga ga, goo goo" sounds), qnd with the propper guidance and encouragement from others learns to do that thing!
after this window passes the ability to learn these things arent IMPOSIBLE but they are HARDER to learn.
(every personndevelops differently and has these developing stages at different times, but if the 8 year old kid mentioned here was neurotypical the parent has made it harder for them to learn how to read.)

sorry, didnt mean to rant but yea-

The story about exploring who you are made me think about my own journey for a bit. I started having a gender crisis at one point in my life. I kept shifting from label to label because one would feel right for a while, and then I would slowly feel like I screwed up and was confused how I got this wrong. I used to use pinterest to collect pride-based images and I never got around to removing old ones and just added to the mess. It took me a while to realize I was genderfluid and my little collection of pride images was both the evidence and the journey to that realization. I decided to keep them all so that if I ever feel down or unsure about my gender identity, I can look back at the adventure I had and remember those are all me and that only I can truly understand how I feel. I'm thankful for the ones who were understanding that I kept coming back with new identities instead of making me feel like I was making this all up, because now I finally have that answer.

I know this is an older comment, but just wanted to say how glad I am that you figured things out and are feeling comfortable in yourself! AND that you are keeping your Pinterest collection to commemorate & reinforce that journey - great idea.
Despite some gradual progress on LGBT+ visibility and acceptance, I do feel understanding of gender & sexuality as spectra rather than as rigid boxes is still often lacking, & people get given way too much sh*t for sometimes taking a while to figure all of it out...? Glad you had some supportive peers along the way. Hope anybody else who's going through a similar journey of questioning & exploration sees your posts and is encouraged by them! 💞

I feel like if you've raised your child well, they'll willingly volunteer to take care of you out of love and not to repay any "debt" to you.
Though there are some kids who might be selfish, you can just hope karma's chasing after them and you have enough retirement funds to take care of yourself.

I see aspects of my mother in alot of these posts. When I can afford to move away I'm going to reduce contact as much as possible and, when I can, move to another country. It's astonising to me that she's so lost in her bigotry and toxic bs that everything she does "because she loves me" is why I'm dealing with trauma as an adult

My father was psycho and my sister inherited some of it, I suspect. Between the two of them I think they drove my mother over the edge. In their world I am the psycho one, of course. In their world I had a number of psychsomatic conditions when I was growing up. In my 'psycho' world my 'psychosomatic' conditions show up on x-rays and CT scans and pre-Covid I had a half dozen docs sharing my delusions. Sarcarm aside it's nice to have all these docs assure me I'm not the crazy one...
Point: I'm really confident all three of them would pass any parenting exam with flying colors!
      I°m honestly surprised they aren't anti-vaxxers.

I agree. Being able to leave home and live by your own rules changes everything for the better. My mom could be a genuinely wonderful person: warm, funny, loving, kind... until she wasn't, and the guilt and rage monster took over her body. I had to remind myself that she was dealing with trauma, chronic pain and mental illness, but she never really sought the kind of help that would make any real difference in her life, and never knowing which version of her I was going to get on any given day definitely took its toll.
