Hi Cassandra, thanks for the video. With respect to the Peace Out Puffy Eyes Patches, please note that the gardenia extract is indeed a fragrance. The manufacturer didn't list it as such in the ingredients list, which is something brands do. (Although I will say that the packaging doesn't claim that the product is fragrance free.)
However, it s a really bad idea to use products with fragrance around the eyes. It's a bad idea in general to use fragranced products on facial or body skin, but it's especially problematic around the eyes.

I don't know how this holds up in America, but I know a lot of African women stick to Olay because its a stable product that doesn't encourage us to bleach our skin. That being said...I'm pretty sure she uses it now because she's sponsored by them and while there's def better products out there, I'm sure she likes being paid as well.

The beauty of supermarket/chemist brands is that they regularly (in Australia anyway) go on sale for 50% (or more) off. My mum has been using Olay for years, even back when it used to be called oil of Ulan or whatever it was called and sticks to it because she knows and trusts it and because it’s easily accessible (also a big plus!) but she only ever buys it on sale. It’s a lot more reasonable when you halve the price.

    • @kristibeauty9618
      @kristibeauty9618 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Exactly, and when it's not on sale 50% off at Woolworths, it's half price at Coles. That is a fairly decent buy for 20 odd dollars, really.

A lot of times these high prices shown are the msrp but the items are way cheaper a lot of time on amazon & Walmart especially. Amazon especially has the coupons on & other discounts, You are right there are better products then Olay but in there defense they do at least formulate stuff well & usually the actives are way above the phenoxyethanol line etc, but they do have to many different products and then they have "Max" versions of this stuff that they say are more potent, They had a ProX line that was really formulated well, but of course they discontinued it, Side note too I believe she is a spokeswoman for them! I have seen her in their ads!

My aunt was scammed $7k by a Publisher's Clearing House scam, and when she found out, she called the police. The state of Virginia APS got involved and because of that scam, they determined she was an incapacitated adult unable to care for her finances and put her under a conservatorship ran by Catholic Charities... where, you guessed it, they're scamming her and mistreating her, and we have to fight it. So...I recently picked up the Olay retinol moisturizer and the eye cream. BUT I made the decision to buy both because I wanted something very moisturizing on the cheeks/forehead and something lighter around my eyes. I also got them on a hella good sale plus used coupons and did the rebate Olay has going on right now. So, I picked up the moisturizer, cleanser (probably won't use), and the eye cream for about $25 total. I definitely wouldn't have picked it up at $40 each! But for $25 total, I'll try them out and see how adding retinol to my routine goes.

Feel like Quinta’s admiration for Olay is a great place to talk about white privilege in the beauty space. Many BIPOC communities have been made to feel unwelcome in stores like Sephora (treated like thieves for simply being BIPOC etc), and while legacy brands may have racist legacies too, they were much more accessible to marginalized groups being in the drug store, grocery, etc. Women in these families likely used and grew loyalty to those products, and passed this loyalty down to the next gen simply from proximity and watching their loved ones use it. These brands become familial in that sense, especially if Momma/Grandma had great results/stunning skin, and become almost a cultural staple in that nostalgia.

What I love the oil for is using it on my hands and cuticles before bed. It's also great on the lips. My husband gets terribly cracked hands during winter and I let him use my oil and he loved it. It helped heal his hands in a couple days. I chose the product in one of my Ipsy bags and it's lasted me FOREVER! I'm sure you could find the same oil for much cheaper but I think the bottle is cute and may refill it once I use all of the original product. (Unless I find something else I like better. Then I'll hold on to the bottle for forever, swearing that I'm going to use it for "something" but in reality it'll just take up space in a drawer or cabinet somewhere in my bathroom or studio!😊)

Huh. I don't use Olay products because most of them have fragrance, and I have sensitive skin. Also, a lot of the products are packaged in jars. The problem with jars is that active ingredients in the product can be broken down by exposure to air and light, which happens every time you open the jar.
I used to use the Olay foaming cleanser for sensitive skin (unscented) in the shower in the morning, but it wouldn't remove makeup, and it bothered my eyes if I got it in them. And I had to use a different cleanser to remove makeup. I switched to the Vanicream cleanser which does remove makeup on me. I have extremely dry skin, so I don't know if it would work for those with oily or normal skin.
Also, I used to use the Olay moisturizer in the black and white bottle with SPF 15 - I think it was the Complete for sensitive skin product. But I stopped using it when I switched to a sunscreen with SPF 30.
If Olay would stop using jars, and remove fragrance from their products, I might try them. Note: Some Olay products say "fragrance free" on the label, but guess what's in the ingredients list - fragrance! As Cassandra says, "Turn and learn."

Hi Cassandra! You pointed out in this video about how Olay seemed to often be using the same products in different items and just jacking up the price for basically the same thing. So, this got me thinking about these other products that are "holy grail" for me, but are in the same skincare line as each other (not in Olay). I created a whole excel sheet to alphabetically compare two items in particular -- an eye cream and a facial serum/cream, both of which I adore. Both are marketed mainly for fine line/wrinkle smoothing.
I wanted to ask what you thought of what my results were. The eye cream had 58 total ingredients and the facial cream had 53. Out of these ingredients, 29 ingredients were used in both items. So, this is 50% of the ingredients in the eye cream and 55% of the ingredients in the facial serum/cream.
Do you think that the same thing might be going on in these products?
There is an extremely clear difference in the consistency between the eye cream and the face cream. The eye cream is rich and thicker and makes my skin have a nice dewy shine and feels much more hydrating and the face cream is thin and soaks into my skin more. I will occasionally use the eye cream on other parts of my face or neck, but only when I'm being extra or when I'm for some reason wanting that strong dewy shine all over. But if I don't want a whole dewy face all over, I'll just use the eye cream on the eyes and the face cream everywhere else.
Hope you see this! I have watched many of your videos and am subscribed :)

Glow Recipe did discontinue the Avacado Melt Retinol Sleeping mask. I bought one off Amazon like 6 months ago I'm savoring the FU*K out of it lol. I'm so so so upset they did that! I think it was because they make more on the eye cream since they were practically the same thing.

These scammers are sophisticated. They sell your info around to other groups of scammers who each use their own tactics. So some people get scammed more than once especially the elderly.

All influencers seem to miss the point when they look at the price of Olay. It is literally on sale SOMEWHERE every week for half price. This is just a pricing strategy, it should not be compared to products at a comparable RRP because no one is ever really buying it at its RRP.

I dont understand all the fuss, all products that have some actives in them don't put the actives as a first ingredient, of course they have to pyt glycerin ( to balance out) the irritation caused by retinol, or dimethicone for spreadabiluty I guess. I would like to see retinol moisturizers that have retinol as a first ingredient, as you inderectly suggest that should be the common practise:)
