    So really no lame excuses, what’s your sweet spot for Range and Charging Speed for you to feel fully satisfied with your Tesla?

      I don’t have one yet but with my road trip experience a stop is almost always 15-20 minutes after 3-4 hours of driving without having a good meal. Current Tesla supercharging isn’t that fast yet, but with experience renting one, it was not as bad as the media presented it. I just can’t do 4-5 hour nonstop stretches anymore (which I don’t enjoy anyway).

      @heyJohnEe  หลายเดือนก่อน

      @battery_wattage yup it’s a great roadtripper regardless, it’s just hard to convince those that drive ICE and want to drive to destination in 1 shot without stopping for long

  • @taefravis
    @taefravis หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    John a few corrections.
    1) Charging on a road trip is NOT a massive issue! With an EV you DO NOT need to sit there for 1 hour as you charge to 100%. You can charge for 15 minutes which with Tesla can add about 170 miles of range which is enough to get to your destination OR to the next supercharger.
    Do not forget that you will need to stop anyway even in a ICE car to stretch your rags and a toilet break. It is dangerous and stupid to keep driving for hour after hour after hour after hour after hour as tiredness kills MORE than drink/drugs!
    2) Most people who go from a ICE to EV say they see no major issues with roads trips even though the range/charging is less than ICE. It is simply a case of adapting slightly. I have a brother who has driven ICE cars for over 20 years and he has his first EV an the says his road trips are NOT a major issue and he is not in a Tesla and currently has no access to the supercharger network which makes road trips even easier.
    3) Whilst most people THINK they need 500+ miles of range in a EV the actual data shows they do not! The ACTUAL sweet spot is about 300 miles of range typical use as that allows for 4 hours of typical driving which you then should stop to rest anyway, so why not charge as you rest.
    4) You do not need to sit there with the charger in your hand as you charge your EV, you can do other things like take a toilet break, grab something to drink and eat etc. You can not do this with ICE cars.
    This is a simple case of adapting your driving slightly regarding EVs and once you do you find you can easily cope.
    You obviously can not adapt so I do not think EVs are for you, maybe walking is your thing.
    All the best.

      I think you didn’t listen to what I said in the video and ended your comment with that. 15 minute for 150mi is still 3X longer than filling but getting back 3X less the miles. Sure, you can convince an EV guy like yourself the benefits, but try convincing a diesel truck lover with the 4 points you just brought up

    Hey John, I read online that the new catl lfp battery’s will charge 250miles in 10 minutes:) is this what you meant or do you believe it’ll be even quicker :)?

    • @heyJohnEe
      @heyJohnEe  หลายเดือนก่อน

      250mi in 10 minutes is already mind blowing, but I think it’ll get faster to the point where it’ll be on par with fueling up at the pump which is approximately 5 mins

    I like to think of range and charge speed in terms of total lifetime spent charging or gassing a car. Since I charge at home and 95% of my driving is around Chicago and suburbs, I need around 300+ mi (charged to 90%) of range to not charge during a typical ~150 mi days even in in subzero (or polar vortex) weather. So the M3 has had it covered.
    Second the charge time of an EV isn't apples-to-apples, because you have to compare against the weekly time taken to divert a gas car and fill up, which represents the large portion of driving. Sure the 3 or so road trips I take annually will take longer at a SC, but that's miniscule compared to the amount of time not gassing up weekly. I also do things in parallel, like use the washroom and eat on roadtrips, so the extra time required at each SC gets folded into time I'd spend on a gas car too.
    All that to say, for me EV manufacturers would do well to incrementally improve batteries, but the real boon will be cheap and easy accessibility to home chargers

    • @heyJohnEe
      @heyJohnEe  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Good points. I think for most EV owners, the Model 3 should be enough. It’s just the road trips that is the last argument for ICE owners to argue about, once that’s out of the way there’s nothing else

    What battery do you think the new model y juniper will have ?

    • @heyJohnEe
      @heyJohnEe  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I’m taking a swing here but I’m thinking the Model Y is going to have something insane in terms of battery. For it to continue being the best selling car in the world, it’s going to need it

    • @liam1902
      @liam1902 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@heyJohnEe Isn't the concern that if Model Y Juniper gets great range and fast recharge time due to the CATL battery, it will dramatically hurt the sales of the Model 3 RWD and LR? I feel like Tesla is probably focusing mainly on the robotaxies and FSD so the Model Y refresh might either be lackluster or delayed. They might just release the MY refresh and then 1-2 years later, switch to the CATL LFP batteries or something.

    • @heyJohnEe
      @heyJohnEe  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      That’s generally true, although the sedan segment has always been lackluster anyways outside of North America. So instead worrying about that, they might as well make the Model Y the best SUV with the best battery 🤷‍♂️

    • @liam1902
      @liam1902 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@heyJohnEe Hopefully. Was planning on buying a current Tesla MY with the nice deals going on but Tesla just raised the prices of all Model Y inventory vehicle prices by A LOT ($45k-$47k MY LR inventory vehicles are now $48k-$52k) so I guess I'm no longer going to be buying a current Model Y unless they drop inventory prices again. Might just have to wait for Model Y Juniper LR.

    • @heyJohnEe
      @heyJohnEe  หลายเดือนก่อน

      @liam1902 yeah I’d wait for the juniper and if you’re still interested in the olde redesign there will be a substantial drop by then

      @bustex1 maybe not from Tesla. But CATL and BYD has been in the battery manufacturing for a very long time and is on the verge of a breakthrough. Check out the sodium packs they just announced and already in some EVs in China. They make US manufacturers look like they’re going snails pace
