    Tesla removed one of the 3 cameras in the front and replaced it with a blank. This is a known thing that I did not know about. Therefore HW4 cars only have 8 cameras now; not 9. Thanks to all who commented on this

      There are only two. Hw4 cameras in the front have 2 with the red dot one with nothing which is the dummy one. You can see there’s one missing in the service menu when you view all available cameras.

    As usual, excellent content. The "purple haze" as you called it, the one saw in the HW3 previews is a classic example of "fringing", a result of (generally budget friendly cheap) lens' tendency to produce chromatic aberration.

    2023 mylr hw3. Just drove 200 miles at 3am in Florida in a terrible storm. 4 lane rural road, US 301. During rain and fog held speed to 45. During rain held speed to 55. Much of the time visibility was so bad I would not have driven. When trailer trucks passed road was usually totally obscured to my vision. Only used autodrive the whole time. Never a hiccup. Not one. Flawless all the way. I am totally amazed. So there you are.

    great video,Thank you for your compliment on the rain test comparison. I must say this video is excellent, and I really wanted to understand the differences between Hardware 4.0 and 3.0, as I previously believed it would be a crucial step in achieving full self-driving for Tesla. Unfortunately, I have learned that the latest Model Y is equipped with a scaled-down version of Hardware 4.0, which we might refer to as Hardware 3.5. This 3.5 hardware lacks the 4D HD radar, which provides essential support in rainy and low-light conditions to ensure safety. I recently ordered the rear-wheel-drive (RWD) Model Y, but I've seen that the versions in China have improved acceleration, now reaching 0-60 miles in just 5.9 seconds. This has made me contemplate canceling my order.

    • @Resist4
      @Resist4 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      The latest Model Y does not have a scaled down version of hardware 4. It has hardware 4, and all the hardware it's supposed to have. What is scaled down is the software of FSD beta, which at some point will be added to what it should be. Not sure why the FSD beta software wasn't fixed to work with HW4 cars prior to the cars being sold.

    • @pythons4114
      @pythons4114 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Resist4 Thanks for reply. However, I don't think so. Based on the breakdown of the "green" version, we can clearly see that the long-range version of Model Y is equipped with HW3.5 but lacks essential processing power and the interface for 4D high-definition radar. This is why I ultimately decided to choose the cheapest Model Y RWD version.

    Pretty sure HW4 downsamples video feed, so it is not accurate on the screen. But I can say, having used HW3 since 2021, the cameras are not high resolution enough to see a stop light at a distance. Lights will be green and the car keeps slowing down for quote a while.

      Agree, but it’s because people continue to buy the car. Tesla doesn’t care. They removed the sensors on a promise that vision would be better, more than a year ago. And listen to what some TH-camrs say, “ it’s no big deal”. If it’s not impacting sales, they don’t care.

  • @chuckjames7745
    @chuckjames7745 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Perhaps the big difference is the speed of the hardware 4.

  • @Resist4
    @Resist4 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

    As others have said there are only two windshield cameras on HW4 cars, they removed the narrow camera. How is it that you guys didn't know that? This is a known thing for like months now. And while the HW3 cars camera quality was greatly improved via software, it's still not as good as what HW4 cars have, because their camera hardware is much better. But the HW3 software upgrade to improve the video, is NOT like iPhone quality, sorry Kyle, not even close.
    When I had a HW3 car it always got the camera degraded thing at night, so that isn't just a HW4 thing. The software just isn't there yet and not worth $12,000, and it will be many more years before it is ready.
    Isn't it interesting that Tesla designed HW4 in such a way that it can't be retrofitted in HW3 cars. That was deliberate so they wouldn't have to give everyone that paid for FSD free hardware and if they wanted it then they would have to buy a new car. I feel that from now on Tesla will do this, which then makes buying FSD pointless and we might as well just "rent" it via the subscription model.
    But yes, removing the ultra sonic sensors was a bad move. Those sensors have been in vehicles for decades because they work really well! Vision only on my car had me stop 5 feet from where I should have stopped to park inside my garage, it sucks!

  • @edhill8568

    Tesla did nothing to address the critical problem with the B-pillar cameras. Obstructed views. The front wide view camera really cannot be used to determine whether it's safe to pull out so when the B-pillar is obstructed FSD is winging it. I have lots of examples of obstructed view corners that I have to disengage. No way FSD can see cars approaching from left and right. You can get to the camera preview by simply going to service and then scroll to the camera preview option. No need to go into service mode.

    The real improvements continues to be over looked. Improve the EV with the ability to fully charge from absolute 0 to 100 percent in 3 to 5 minutes, the same amount of time it takes to fully fuel a regular car and not 20 minutes or 20 hours. Increase range to atleast 500 miles. Improve the EV with these fine qualities and improvements, now we're talkin!!! I'll be the first one at the gates to buy one. Till then, I'll keep my jaguar XJl which i fully fuel up once a month, (once a month)! and takes me 3 to 5 minutes depending on wether or not i run in and grab a coffee. My range is 570 miles which supersedes any EV including the so called (long range) model Y which is currently only 330 miles. EVs are great and would be even greater if these improvements are applied. Till then, short down times and true long range is reserved for gas cars only and not EVs. This is one of the reasons why i like many would rather leave well enough alone. Besides, at 41 thousand dollars, my long range jaguar is paid off. I will take another look at the EV in 4 years when it's time to get another car.....

    According to Elon Musk, radar was discontinued because the combination of radar with vision led to a disambiguation problem between the signals of the two. Tesla is now experimenting with a new proprietary radar system in their new Model Ss and Xs

      They removed radar to cut production costs, if it was due to "noise" every automaker would have dumped radar, whereas no other automaker has. Tesla's #1 goal right now is keep production costs down.

      @InternetDude I'm aware. Especially, after he sold all of those shares last year. But, he revealed this "disambiguation problem" just a few days ago. Never heard that angle.
