About 40 seconds in, think I spotted an Austin Princess - red - we had a green one. They didn't seem to last long. Nice little cottages - characterful. The High Street used to be great - there was a good discount book shop which was aways worth a look, and at least one fabric shop. Crumbs, just seen another Princess.
Next to Greeves furniture shop you can see an old church outline. As far as I can remember that was part of Greeves where you could go and look around. It must have been a old tin chapel long since closed. Jackson and Imms next door was apparently the old fire station, hence the large doors at the side.
The high street was really lovely then.NOW they have narrowed so very much .its horrid.. Orpington is still a nice town I attended school not far from Orpington
Hi there, I think I've got a bit driving up Devonshire Road, I must try and put it on at some point. I liked that road and aspired to live there but I moved to the coast instead.
No, I will have recently moved in, I was building the concrete steps hence the shots. After a while we made the garden really beautiful. My next door neighbour (left) also owned the other house next to him. It was a time capsule with gas fittings copper boiler and ranges. It hadn't been lived in for years.
@@johnhandley9041 my very first car was a Vauxhall Viva Coupe 1976. It was quite old when I bought it.. but no rust was on it at all. (I just moved on to a newer car.) I should have kept it!. It was a really nice design and gold colour.. and it was driven around Orpingtin for a long time.. the old cars did have more charm.. today's cars all look the same!.
I was really hoping it would catch the Cricketers pub in this clip.
Great to see this. I moved away from Orpington in September '84, so this is fascinating.
Hi there, glad you like it. I used to work with Sylvia Kundu in the early 80's

Here is another video, mainly Orpington High Street and Moorfield Road. I used to live at No.57. The last bit may be a bit boring.
I lived at 25 Moorfield Road in 1984. Sadly, just a glimpse in this film, but you can see my Dad's red transit van outside. Thanks for posting.
No not boring
Thanks for this video👍 I lived at no.35, on the bend. Great memories.
My Mum used to live on Devonshire Road very near to where you were filming !

Hello @John Handely , have you some recordings from Orchard Grove? Many thanks
I think so, I must put more on.....
@@johnhandley9041 ok, I’ll be watching. My grandmother lived there.
how much nicer was the high street back then before the town planners got involved and added bits jutting out, narrowing roads, roundabouts etc

Oh my god !!!!! I’ve just seen our car. Yellow celiica

Wow haven't cars come a long way on 36 years!
Yes, I love the old Fords, Cortinas, Granadas and Escorts, they would be worth a fortune if they hadn't rusted away like my old Escort Mark 1
