    Honestly speaking, I don't know why people always complaining about video capabilities of excellent Fujifilm X-T1. This is a great review and video machine tool.

    Hey, I've shot video on the Fujifilm XT-1 and I think you missed some important points about it in regards to video. 1. You didn't mention to set white balance to manual because even in video mode this camera likes to automatically change white balance often. 2. You didn't talk about a bunch of manual focus assisting tools that you can use to get a perfectly focused shot, such as the focus peaking mode (but not during recording), the ability to press the AF-L button to auto focus even in manual mode and it wont' re-focus or auto focus when you start recording and finally you can customize what's being displayed on the LCD (setup 1>screen setup>display custom setting, and then while shooting press the DISP BACK button to go to custom) to include manual focus distance indicator which helps tremendously with moving subjects and correct shot planning. 3. You didn't talk about whether changing the film simulation mode or shooting menu 2 options such as color, sharpness, etc. effect the final video file, of which they do! 4. You bring up the Rode Video Mic Pro to use with the XT-1, but the XT-1 has a 2.5mm jack and the Rode comes with a 3.5mm and you didn't mention that you will need an adapter to plug it into the camera. This was so dumb of Fujifilm but if you're serious about audio you'll record on an external device anyways and sync in post.
    I just wanted to bring up these points in a friendly way because they are important. Please don't take it too harshly. :)
    Overall the Fujifilm isn't really made for video, and with Fujifilm's recent firmware update it makes it mediocre and just passable for video. In your video examples you could see excessive amounts of moire in the indoor shots and in the basketball shot on the signs above the court. I really wish they took more care of the video mode because Fuji's lenses are phenomenally sharp, but I'm sure that's what will be the big upgrade for the XT-2.
    A better quality video mode with a better video codec can be found on another mirror-less camera, the Sony A6000, and its also a lot cheaper than the Fujifilm XT-1.
    Great video and keep it up man!

    Thank you for all your honest, thorough, and extremely well produced product reviews Lukas, all well crafted with much attention to detail. You've been shooting with Fuji for some time now and I, and doubtless many other mirror less fence sitters, would love a detailed video assessment of the move from DSLR to mirror less with your conclusions on the move and its effect on your business (with particular attention to still photography). Others have also switched but don't often detail the positives/negatives after the move to a mirror less platform. I shoot Nikon exclusively with Nikkor lens and would enjoy your thoughts on the matter... Love your work and look forward to more of the same in the future Lukas!! Be well.

    Thank you for sharing your opinion on video. I agree with you, most of us (photographers) shot some videos to show behind the scenes, or TH-cam videos, nobody want to make a film with this... Until now! ;-) Thank you Lukas!

    Hi Lukas - I did see the switch over review posted in October of last year, it was comprehensive and apparent you were happy with the move. What I was hoping for was a one year review to detail the Fuji as a complete camera system in the wedding photography business and if your opinions still stand one year on. Time has a way to reveal certain truths about a product after the initial fascination has faded. I'm seeking an honest appraisal not to substantiate my Nikon ownership (I'm completely happy) but to perhaps put me over the top with procuring a Fuji system. If your opinion from 2014 stands unchanged then I completely understand if no long term review will be forthcoming and my decision will be made easier. Thanks Lukas.

    Nice tutorial. One thing worth noting: while recording video in AF mode the rattle of focusing mechanism is very present if using built-in mic. Face detection does miracles for interviews but due to this rattle sound (tested with XF23) I strongly advise getting another audio recorder or one with a very long cable to avoid this noise. Another disadvantage is short run time, max 27 mins at 720p

    Thanks for putting together a great video showing something that isn't done much (video on the XT1). I have shot vid on mine and been happy with the results (use external mic as well with a 2.5mm to 3.5mm adapter I purchased off amazon for a few bucks). Early on I also learned the importance of using pre-focusing and switching the body to manual focus. Since the video work I do is not destined for TV/cinema, what I produce is perfectly fine.
    When the X-Pro2 is out and if you get your hands on it, it would be great if you did a similar video showing its video capability due to the new censor and processor if has.

  • @poetsguide
    @poetsguide 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    The quality is not that bad especially for half body to close up shots. Very nice

  • @ezlog49
    @ezlog49 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thank you for making this informative video! I learned quite a bit. You kind of laid to rest some of the not so accurate information floating around about the X-T1's video capabilities.
    I understand the upcoming 4.0 firmware update will address autofocus in video. Perhaps we shouldn't get too excited about that since manual focus seems to be the way to go on any system. However, the increase in total focus points and sensitivity I'm hoping will put the X-T1 a lot closer to DSLR focus performance.

    How does the file behave in post? How far can you push it? Would be helpful if Fuji had some flat color profile of some sort. Hope the second version of the camera will have better video.

    Nice video. I experimented using my X-T1 for video in early 2015 and was annoyed with the lack of focusing peaking while video is recording.

    • @AdamWoodhouse
      @AdamWoodhouse 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Rediscover Film I agree! If Fuji would add focus peeking to video it would open up so many options when using non Fuji lens for video. I have an adapter for Nikon and Canon lenses I purchased off Amazon for a good price and can connect some great old glass that would be fun to use for video, but alas ... cannot.

    • @EDHBlvd
      @EDHBlvd 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Adam Woodhouse it would be just as useful for Fuji lenses. AF during video on the X-T1 is terrible. Using MF during video is very challenging on the X-T1 due to the lack of focus peaking. It is ridiculous that peaking disappears as soon as video recording starts. I hope it is a FW issue and not a processor limitation. I fear it is the latter. Haven't heard of this was fixed with X-Pro2.

    • @AdamWoodhouse
      @AdamWoodhouse 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Rediscover Film Agreed, just as useful but have you tried manual focus no the Fuji glass? The focus ring doesn't work like most other lenses where you only have to turn the focus ring a full 360 degrees to move through the entire focal plane. On the Fuji glass, it is necessary to turn the focus ring 360 degrees several times to move the focus to where you want it. Because it is necessary to turn the focus ring so much when in manual focus, I find I stay away from manual focus when using Fuji glass.

    • @EDHBlvd
      @EDHBlvd 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Adam Woodhouse if you are careful the MF ring works acceptably on Fuji's. Just like all focus by wire the speed at which you turn it changes how far it changes focus. That said, with peaking it would be much easier to follow your DOF plane for pulling focus. Obviously an old MF lens with a helicoid is superior but even the Fuji glass would work with peaking.

    • @EDHBlvd
      @EDHBlvd 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Adam Woodhouse try doing a fast pull. It will prevent you from having to do 360 rotation. I posted a couple videos about this a year ago.

    Is there a way to increase the time lenght of one video? At the highest quality it can be only 14 minutes long and at the lowest 29 minutes. So it seems to be useless to get a power adaptor instead of a battery... 😔

    I love my XT1 for photography, but now I'm trying to start shooting youtube videos for my missus' channel. She has a G7X set up with a Zoom H1 mic. If I can get my XT1 ready to shoot videos, I believe it can help her have more options on shooting videos.

    Hi, I have a problem playing the videos on Windows Media Player and even Quicktime. The frames will lag for some reason. I'm guessing that it could be due to codec issue, but just wondering what video player do you use and whether you installed any special software to convert the video? Thanks!

    Great review! I have the camera but I do wish the video is better. Moire is terrible. Still shots are ok, but with movement, a lot of muddy artifacts show up. I wish Fuji can release a new 3.0+ firmware that will fix this (hopefully) and maybe even offer a higher bitrate. The camera would be PERFECT if it could do video well.

      Are you asking how to play them on the camera? I'm guessing you have your disp info turned off (when you review photos you don't have any info overlay). To play videos you press the down arrow. If you turn the display info back on it will show you "play" with a down arrow on the screen.

    • @iscreamsandwish
      @iscreamsandwish 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Purple Rain it has to do with the shutter speed and the frequency of fluorescent lights. Play with the shutter speed, I think 1/60 is the magic number.

      +MrOMGLOLWTF I just tested it out and I can still see a bit of flicker especially when the only light source I had was the fluorescent light, I tried doing 30 shutter speed at a settings of 30fps and the same thing if I wanted to do 60 fps I have to shoot at 60 shutter speed but again still a little bit of flickering I hope an update will solve this.
