A historical comparison; there's a debated idea that the last Aztec king, Moctezuma II, mistook Hernan Cortes, the Spanish conquistador responsible for Aztecs' collapse, as Quatzequatel, the Aztec feather serpent god whose human form was a pale skinned man. Regardless of IRL validity of this notion, perhaps it played an inspiration for the events of the Duskfall.
