So, some numbers match now what? Like I said before " you seriously have to know your shit these days. The high the prices go, the better the copy is". Yeah numbers in metal just don't cut it any more.
I gather at the time of filming that the car was 41? years of age so it's only natural that parts will need replacing especially parts with rubber for they perish with age whether they've been used or not. These people restoring the car to it's former glory are taking a lot of TLC in the work they're performing and the car is in safe hands. I remember these when I was younger and I always preferred the red with gold snowflake wheels to any other colour. The last one made was silver with gold wheels and although alright it's just that, it's alright. But the red and gold is a real head turner. I have a Falcon that less than half the age of this car so it's not up to "Barn Find" status yet. Thank you for taking the trouble to show us all this much appreciated.
I love these cars. We had XD, XF, EA, ED as family cars growing up. My mate had a nicely tuned XE 4.1 as his P Plate car in the mid 90s. They are the cars of my childhood and I love seeing people put in the effort to keep them on the road.
That Orange XB is superb! Yesterday, I was walking back from Bunnings, to my car: BA Falcon XR8. A beautiful restored blue XB Falcon 351 sedan was parked next to it. Sounded great on start-up, and leaving the car park.
10:34, now there's a view from my childhood. I remember sitting in the back of my dad's XE Ghia and trying to "use the force" to turn up the radio. Beautiful car, don't blame old mate for doing it up right. Good on him.
I remember as a kid my best mates dad workd at fords in geelong and he always had the latest model and ford in the 80's had a lot of dif stereo designs with equalisers and allsorts im pretty sure they were first aus car to have a stacker in the boot but i remember all the knobs and buttons levers and lights on them esp one that was in a fairlane like a spaceship as a kid in the 80's
I have owned from new a 1980 XD Fairmont Ghia 4.9 V8 in Hermitage Red back in 1980. I bought the car from Bryan Byrt Ford Upper Mt Gravatt in Brisbane. I loved this car as it had everything including electric windows, pioneer sound system, air conditioning, beige velour upholstery, etc. In hindsight I should have got the 5.8 V8 4 Speed manual instead of the 4.9 V8 3 Speed automatic, and the XD Fairmont Ghia ESP instead of the XD Fairmont Ghia. Keep the videos updates coming for this nice rare XE ESP.
Bugger looks like a rebuild. But i reckon for this classic it has to happen. The 1967 to 1978 Fords are big money . This car is going to be big money . Absolutely. I got a G8 FAIRLANE BF . SHES LOVED LIKE MY WIFE. I EVAN BELIEVE ONE DAY THAT PARTICULAR FORD will be a collectable car. Loving the show. It shows that no matter how good a barn stored car may look. Lots of jobs simply have to be done. My G8 sat for 5/6 years. And i had to do alot of work to a car that looked brand new. And was spoilt since new. Its how it goes. Awesome show .
Engine number and prefix matches Aug1982 (JG32AP...) . Id be looking to remove the LPG system. Those systems are pretty being phased out slowly these days, plus the tank would be out of date at my guess.
The old BBQ ring systems sucked and people set the timing in between. when timing was advanced enough LPG ran better than petrol. Gas Research in Dandenong made a jettable LPG carby that won at the drags ...And the liquid injection 4th gen LPG won hands down. I ran a 253 for 10 years on gas and drove pedal to the metal every day. When I stupidly did a head gasket, when we pulled the heads off after 100000km the engine looked brand new. Petrol on the other hand would have had huge build ups of carbon and muck...
Make sure the guys at grand tourer rebuild original master cylinder as its an esp specific part as the xd/xe esp's had 2 ports (2 brake lines coming out from the master cylinder) instead of the standard 3 brake lines. Also the front brake line setup on the esp's are also esp specific.
I have found memories of my dad driving me, my mum and 3 brothers around in his XF 3.3 GL with the bench seat. It truly always had a deadspot that no mechanic could ever solve, which was probably a fault from factory? We never had the aircon on because my old dad was too mean. The door handles would break all the time. I still remember my old man yelling, "Don't slam the friggin door!". The other thing he'd say was, "Stop yanking on all the door handles. There all f@#ked from you bastards!". 😂😂 Those were the days. The door handles were really poorly designed.
Use to luv watching the grand tourer tv show on channel 31. I’ve actually still got all the dvds of the series. Then the owner died and that was the end of that
Does ADR27 pollution gear still need to be legally connected if the motor has been rebuilt to accept unleaded via hardened valve seats, etc? Just wondering.
The owner reached out to Grand Tourer. Watch it being pulled from his garage in the first video, linked at the top right of the screen at the start of the video
Old mate needs to whip that disi out & check for wear in the bushes. This would be just as important as replacing the module. Especially with that amount of km,s. The coil in there can chuck a shitty at any time at that age as well. Where do you stop...!!!!
Absurd to call low compression without it being run for years imo. Run it give it a drink of oil down the carbie while running to free valves up then do a comp test

I think the XE/ZK/FD were the only era of Ford to ever get it. XF had entirely new interior design that wouldn't have accommodated it.

Beyond my pay scale.
Anyone?
High kms on a car running lpg on non hardened seats,
I'm going burnt valve and/ or recessed valve seats.
Worn guides won't show as low compression.
Don’t tell anyone but it’s gone off for a full rebuild.

Okay mate, it will be our little secret.😉
Didn’t your dad have something similar Dave? Big old red sierra if my memory serves me right?
He did, 2.0GLS but more similar was the white 2.3GL Granada. Neither near the size of a Falcon though.

not worth a restoration at all hi kilometres motor body . resale value not there after resto
It’s worth to the owner if he thinks it is. Not everything is done for profit but even so, given the way the market is rising for XE atm, why not?
