How do you know you had "177"? I owned for many years and never found any evidence of a build number, plate, or, stamp, that indicated what number it was.
Absolutely stunning beautiful Ford Fairmont, always a Dream car of mine. Will be coming to Australia to buy a few to take back to the Caribbean, cheers. Awesome video & drive
@@THROTTLEPOWER Both you and noneed4me2: The European Sports Pack ESP was a copy of the blacked out brightwork Fox Body European Sports Option ESO for Fairmont 2 doors, and the ESS for 4 door Granada X car chassis sedans, new for 1978. Even with just 137 HP for 1978 to 1979, the SROD 4 speed 5.0 liter was a very quick car. The US Granada ESS had the former 145 HP 2 bbl 5.8 liter Windsor and 4 speed overdrive Toploader floorshift, a stout engine combination, deleted for 78, 79 and 80 after having it as an option from 75-77. Each of Your US 5 liter ES Options were High 16 second cars, as quick as any 4.9 Cleveland 4bbl. The Fox 5.0 liter was a stunning 700 pounds lighter than the 1978 Australian GXL Fairmont 5.8, and 565 pounds lighter than the ESP 4.9 or 5.8 liter. The extra 63 HP of the best 200 HP single exhaust 5.8 ESP 4 speed only gained another second over the quarter mile an ESO could do. 16.1 seconds verses about 16.7 to 17.2 seconds over the quarter mile. And the little Fox Fairmont was way slicker through the air than the blunt ESP, with a 117 mph top speed verses 124 mph, and a fuel mileage of 21 US Mpg at 55 mph for the 5 liter ESO, verses 16 US mpg equivalent on the 4bbl 5.8 ESP.
Wow, the driver was a font of knowledge! What colours did they come in? Ah,...charcoal. Well, they also came in a burnt orange colour, monza red, silver, and I think there were a few white ones too! Some even came with pillow block engines. I bought my 82 XE ESP Ghia via AMCS many moons ago, when it had 118,000km original k's on the clock. It was monza red, had all the fruit (pwr steer, AC, Pwr windows, and premium sound system - which didn't work),...that was in 2009. Sold it in 2016/2017 if memory serves, and had 146,000km on the clock. They are great cars to drive, and they love to stretch their legs out on the highway - it's where they come into their own - absolutely effortless cruising.
Any colour combination you wanted as well, I have a book on em, my old man ordered his brand new on his retirement, it was 2 tone blue and an absolute stunner
By 1982 the U.S. Ford Fairmont would have a " top " V8 engine of only 255 cubic inches, good for 122 horsepower, but only in police spec. (The non-police Fairmonts topped out with a 200 cubic inch inline 6 cylinder good for all of 87 horsepower.) The 351 would be reserved for the bigger/heavier LTD Crown Victoria, but again, only as a police spec good for 165 horsepower.
Except the 351 in the US in 1982 would have not been a Cleveland like this one , it would have to have been a 351M . US Cleveland production stopped in 1972, the Australia took over casting / production of Clevelands in 302 C and 351 C till 1982/3 . ( Did 351 M production go that long ? Or was it 351 W by then ?) .
For me, the grey interior is certainly preferable over the pukey orange/brown in some examples. And red paint with gold snowflakes sets off the exterior nicely.
Nice..... should have put a mortgage on the house and bought it..... but.., the missus said,........why would you buy it..... because it's a good deal baby...... she said...... don't call me baby......
The XE Ghie ESPs - inline 6 with EFI or V8 - was the ONLY model of the XD/E/F range that I liked (the "snowflake" wheels really set them off). But they still couldn't match a HDT Commodore in handling (evennwith the Wattsl-lnkage rear axle - the front end let them down) or performance. And when you said "you couldn't buy another V8 for ten years", what you really meant was a Ford V8.
It is unfair comparing a hdt vehicle with a ford vehicle as they are not at the same level. Hdt wasn't made built by Holden. The xe esp should be compared to the vh sle. As much as I like the vh sle the xe esp was a better car overall. In today's market an xe esp 351 manual would be worth nearly 3 times more than a holden vh sle
Drive one for 500k,, you get out of the bogan mobile buggered. The Falcon you get out and stretch ready for the next 500. Pogo stick suspension is not suspension!!
How ? We stopped Cleveland production in 1982/3 , why would we assemble F100 - F350s they came direct from US with 5.0 fuel injected Windsors and 5.8 litre injected Windsors .
Always loved these. Great cars.
I owned 177 and my friend bought 178 beautiful smooth car..

Very clean.

I was thinking the same thing.

The outer door handles work !!

Sound good to me

Kicking myself, I sold my dads about 10 years ago for 20k with 90k on it, to a collector in NZ
Suprised the door handles weren't broken... 🤣
Me too seeing as slams the bejeesus out of nearly every door on every car he shows
Beautiful car
No red clock or cluster needles?
How much did it sell for?
mine is charcoal over charcoal 302 auto and I love it
No red digi clock in the XE-ESP?
XD ESP red, XE green.
What is the asking price or what did it sell for?
Pity it missed the power windows option that many ESP’s also had
Should still be making them

XD and XE had the Ghia ESP V8 or 6, XF never had ESP and was 6 only

Pogo stick suspension is not suspension!!
Locally assembled V8 Broncos and F - Serious trucks were available the entire time that Falcon V8 was missing.

Noice.......
👍👍🍻
Last of the V8 Interceptors! It'd be a shame to blow it up!
It gets blown away by six cylinder XCs!
Nice burble
No electric windows. Sad.
I didn't see central locking on the driver's door armrest either.
Me like but I’ve always felt the wheels have let the car down
