Fender inner cover clips , one time use. Your never spouse to re-use them . Always replace with new. Use a fork type metal trim tool, breaks right off. Awesome build . (Toyota Master technician here 20+ years experience.)
I never realized those blackout kits literally just snapped overtop of the original emblems. I assumes you have to cut them off, and painstakingly line up the new ones. Thats kinda neat.
The old badges probably should have been removed. At a shop, the tech would just surround the old badge carefully with masking tape before removing it, then use the tape as a guide to install the new badge, but not before treating the area with adhesion promoter.
Great build! Always wanted a TRD but they're super expensive and impossible to find in my neck of the woods. Good to know a TRD conversion is possible, while having all of the creature comforts in the Limited version.
@@bgee461 a few months ago I saw a vehicle with Raptor lights heading towards me at night, I just assumed it was a Tacoma or 4Runner. When it passed me I was shocked to realize it was an actual Raptor, lol.
This is worth the work. The limited is everything the trd pro should be. The only thing the trd pro has is the hood scoop. But the limited has EVERYTHING else. Good job guys
I really don't like those square fender liner clips either and I used to do the same and break them when removing them. What I have found though if you want to reuse them is to take a small hook or pick and release the tabs from the inside. So you would take your hook and put it through the center hole where it seems like a screw belongs. Then rotate the hook so that you are pulling the plastic tabs to the center of the hole/clip. Do both sides all while prying from behind and it will pop right out and you can reuse it. Sounds complicated but if you give it a shot it's actually pretty easy. I am loving these builds guys. Keep up the great work.
I love the SR5 bumper swap - you're getting truly the best of all worlds! If you don't need the rear locking diff, the Limited model is nice because it has the full-time AWD system, which is perfect for mixed-traction surfaces like roads with patches of snow - in an SR5 or TRD/Trail model the 4WD isn't meant for use on roads, just low-traction surfaces like dirt or rock
6:42 my 1996 accord has something similar, if it has seprate flaps, so like a buckle on a backpack kinda thing, but my trick is a wrench that will fit, and 2 flatheads, put the wrench thats slightly too small over it, push on ends with screw drivers, use one to peel the "flaps" down and the other to push on the clip, its a bit tricky but it gets the job done its the least i can do for yall, ive only seen like 4 episodes from yall in total and ive learnt alot, and i cant wait to learn more
This Limited is looking amazing, but at a huge price tag. This build isn't for the fainted heart because by the time the dust settles you are looking at a $50K vehicle. Solid work!
I did this to my limited 5 months ago. Its easier to do from 2010 to 2019. The tss in my 2020 made it a lot more difficult to convert but its doable. Some people are afraid to touch their tss and I understand them. Pretty happy with the result on mine.

Was super hyped because I found some older limiteds for a better price but after hearing the total and seeing the work I will stick with SR5 premium or TRD
Honda uses the same clips and yes they are one time use. You are also able to drill through those to put a screw into them they are usually used for front and rear mud guards and you use those to put your hardware into
It’s cool to see a channel go high-dollar on an OEM spec build. I was thinking that it’s a bummer that y’all spent so much money on the bumper/headlight conversion when you could’ve installed some nice high clearance aluminum or steel bumpers, and turn it into a proper off road high clearance rig. But then again, there are dozens of channels already doing that. I love what you guys did with this T4R. Thanks!
I considered doing this whole TRD body swap with a Limited because I wanted the full-time 4WD for crappy snow driving but I went with a Venture Edition instead just because it was more work than I could handle. and then you do the body swap with the freakin supercharger? dream 4Runner status right here. get this thing into some dirt ASAP
This video! I’ve toyed with the idea of plastidip on the door trim not thinking you could just swap out. Thank you!!!! I’m part way through a similar swap on my LE and this series has really helped.
I think I’ll skip the TRD Conversion and just opt For the CBI Baja bumper. Glad you guys posted this or I would have been regretting trying it. Thanks for sharing as always.
I've been a Toyota tech for 8 years. There are plenty of tools available to remove the clips. I have a fav Wurth tool for it. Oh and I have boxes of those clips in my toolbox. But I'm in Australia 🇦🇺 Btw it's amusing watching people pull Toyotas apart. 🤣
I did this same exact conversion to my Limited and did put on the TRD badge above the Limited badge to make it a unique TRD Limited. One thing you didn't mention with your bumper conversion is that you did not carry over the parking sensors that the Limited trim comes with. I did have to drill holes into the SR5/TRD bumper to add them back in.
Those "clips" at 9:45 are factory installed mounting points for aftermarket accessories. Toyota actually thought about the moding community and added screw points and blank grommets throughout the body. Had the same confusion when tinkering with my Tacoma.
@10:30 i think those fender liner clips might have been installed improperly. I believe theyre suppose to go between the fender liner and the chassis. And a bolt goes through the fender liner to hold it in place.
Did the same thing with my 2012 limited, except i replaced my bumpers with 2012 trail edition. Took me getting into an accident having to replace my bumpers to pull the trigger lol. Ended up only paying 2k out of pocket for the whole conversion. Replaced all the chrome pieces, now im saving up for those same front and rear tail lights!
*Thank you so much for this helpful video.🤟I'm also working on swapping the current hideous Limited font bumper cover with a non-Limited one. But as in min **7:24**, do I really need to change the that "crash beam" or the steel bumper? I hope not! Please let me know, if you kindly would.*
❤ I'm glad you like your modified 4Runner. I thought about modding a Limited trim version too. I love leather seats and dual climate control. But there's a lot it doesn't come with, like KDSS and some of the other off-road features. BTW, TRD Pro is the most expensive trim level.
You want to see an involved bumper swap? Look up the parts needed for a JDM front end on a 09-14 Honda Fit. You basically need a half cut to get everything you need. Even the washer nozzles are different. But Ronal Teddies would be awesome.
That’s looking so much better with all the chrome gone. Definitely the right choice on the black door handles and the roof rails, contrasts really well with the while paint 👍👍
I like how you did the front bumper that reads Toyota but I think you should have done the back plate that reads 4Runner the same way instead of all black to match plus that contrast looks awesome. Definitely love how the new look!
Woow, it looks awesome! That front bumper and headlights make a huge difference! I do think that Dave deserves a little more bashing about this toyota being so difficult to work with, after all he said about the bmw!!
Here in Brazil we don't get the 4Runner. I would love it if in the next video you guys could briefly go over what makes this truck unique (what does the limited have that the TRD or TRD Pro doesn't). Loving the videos! Good job!
Love how super clean and contrasty ot came out. Yet, some rugged vibes I'm there. Indeed unique. In the XTerra community we call white/black trucks "Stormtroopers." But the wheels are a nice gentle touch in color difference.
As someone who loves 4runners but hates the look of the Limited, this was a super interesting episode! But yeah, for that much money, I'd just buy a TRD model - I'm not that into leather anyway.
One great thing about this is that now you have a non-limited body style with full time 4wd. That’s probably worth it in and of itself lol increased traction on loose surfaces all the time. And you have a sturdy locking center diff to engage 4x4. Wonder if the limited has crawl control/A-trac and locking rear diff like the pro and off-road does…. Nice video!
I know this is a little late, but, the oil cooler mount will most likely cause problems, possibly cracking. The reason is the vehicle build type being a body on frame design. You mounted the lower portion to the frame and the upper portion to the bottom structure. The frame/body move quiet a bit, especially off road. What you typically want to do is mount both ends on the same structure, along with rubber isolators (as you did). Cheers
The build looks really good. Only thing I woulda done if it was my 4runner is deleting the Toyota on the grill. And the stance needs some stance. Bigger and wider tires. At least stick them out the wheel wells a couple inches. But you guys do great work. Love the videos keep it up.
Thanks for the shout-out, fellas! Glad you have a good painter 😁
