  • For this video, Scott Williamson from Grillpartsforless.com, asks the question that that is on everybody’s mind...what’s the deal with Z Grills? Though this a longer review than most, Scott goes into an extensive look at Z Grills as a pellet grill manufacturer and a close look at all of their available models for the 2021 grilling season.
For easy reference, here is a list of chapters:

    About Z Grills
Z Grills is a brand of pellet grills that are made in China and are sold using a direct-to-consumer model approach. We did research on the company and they are a registered U.S. Corporation in the State of California, in good standing.
Z Grills is the flagship brand from a Chinese factory that “currently makes or has made in the past” many, if not all of the pellet grills from all of the leading manufacturers. The Z Grills brand is kind of a mashup of many of these brands into an affordable, direct-to-consumer sales approach.
Z Grills doesn’t advertise their grills or market themselves in the same way as most grill brands. Instead, they rely heavily on a large social media presence, crowd-funded Indiegogo campaigns to launch new products lines, and new and inventive ways of moving products such as in “blind-box” purchasing, and “3 Grills for the full price of 1”.
But, are Americans buying it? I think the answer is yes.

I bought one zgrills about 2 months ago and have been thrilled with it. Very sturdy, holds temp within about 10 degrees over 14-16 hour smokes.

Thank you so much! I have the Z grill 7002B, which I enjoy it very much. you have answered so many questions I have had about it. I intend to visit your store for the Flame Broiler upgrade! Can you suggest anymore upgrades?

I was researching to see if the 700 series was the same as the Grilla Silverback because they look identical. Interesting that only the one version has the insulated barrel. Thank you for the review!

Flip the wheel/bottom tray mounting brackets at the bottom of the tube so to get the wheels to the pellet box side.

I did this exact research in 2017, when I was in the market for a pellet grill....and the idea came from a job I used to have. I worked for a major bread bakery, as a deliver route driver. I carried premium brand, store brand, and value brand bread...but guess what? All baked on the same lines, with the same ingredients. The difference was in the packaging/bag, specifically different mil bag thicknesses. Back to the grills....let's say a major manufacturing facility, cranking out grills with minor differences, but completely different badging.....hence, this is why I chose Z Grills. Same exact grill as Brand A, B, and C, but at a significantly less cost. On a side note, the customer service is really good.

I noticed you put the pit boss broiler mod in on one of the grills, will that fit the 10002 model too?

I recently bought a Z- Grille , model ZPG-4502B . during assembly there is no meantion of using the styrofoam packing material to support the build ,not a big deal .
Secondly I noticed the back legs had a little wobble to them , probably do to the caster wheels being so small, rolling over gravel or uneven concrete posed a problem .
I countered that by adding a horizontal strut to each of the legs ,I attached it 14" off the ground . That seemed to make everything more rigid .

I had a Z Grill 450a as my first pellet grill but quickly found out I wanted something bigger. I wanted to upgrade during the Rona but couldnt find one during that time. I wouldnt hesitate to get another Z Grill, but went with PB because I could find it local.

I notice you mention the 820 flame broiler fits fine into the 700 series Z grill. Would you say this is a worthwhile mod? Does it offer better direct heat for searing since it’s right above the flame than the holes that are cut in the grease tray on the left end of the 700 series grease pan which is Z grills answer to searing????

Wait what? You say the 600d has a tray up front for sauces and rubs? I don’t see that on mine. I can’t see it in the video. Can you elaborate?

    I recently purchased a ZGrill 6002B.
On every cook except one, I’ve experienced a burn back to the hopper even when using the shutdown mode. The hopper on one occasion, became fully engulfed in flames even with the hopper lid closed.
Can anyone explain to me why this is happening! I’ve vacuumed after every use, I’ve replaced the foil after every use.
    Please help!!!

I bought one 700E. That is fantastic, no complaints at all. It is my first pellet grill so I wasn’t sure how much I would use it. Needless to say I use it way more than I thought.

I have now owned a 450 and now I have a 706 lux. when I bought my first one it came from online. Now recently I actually found my new one at my local Menards this is a Midwest store and I feel bad for any one who doesn’t have access to one.

@@brandonfreeman9816 just picked up the 706 lux for $379+tax, but there's also $140 in rebates (for in store credit) right now. So you can sorta call it $239 at the moment (plus the tax on 379)👍

Just purchased the Z-Grill 700 C . My first bake was a half chicken. Took 2-1/2 hours to reach the desired temp doneness. Throughout the entire cook, there was hardly any smoke being produced. It showed as the chicken did not have very much "char" on the skin. This is my first pellet grill. Do these pellet grills operate this way? Very little smoke? You need smoke to produce the "char" or "bark" on the outside of the meat.

I have the 1000 and love it. What I noticed is it took awhile to "break it in" I guess. Its doesnt always produce a lot of visible smoke, but the the smoke ring and flavor is great. Af far as more of a char- you might need to put more dry rub on it. Mine always comes out great, and my ribs ALWAYS have a awesome char. So do my briskets. And my turkeys. =)

I have the 700E that I got off Facebook for free because they said it didn't work. I picked it up and when I got home I plugged it in and nothing. I pulled the control board out and found a blown fuse. I found the heating rod was shorted and the pellets got wet inside the auger tube and dried into place locking the auger down. I cleaned out the auger tube, replaced hot rod and fuse. This thing works great. I do however keep seeing control boards on ebay that have the two probe inputs where mine has none and I wonder if I can take it and plug it in to the Z grill or take a traeger control board and put it on the zgrill 700e. The boards look identical and even the plugs and wires are of the same color, type of plugs and function of each circuit. Do you know if the boards are interchangeable?

You mention the stainless lid being magic because it’s ferrous. That’s really a misconception. There are numerous grades of stainless steel that are ferromagnetic. It’s just that the most common stainless grades (like 304) are non ferrous. Typically high carbon stainless steels will be strongly magnetic.

Was going to make a similar comment. Unfortunately most ferrous stainless steel alloys are less rust resistant as well.
