    Sooo helpful. This just came up in my small group today, and I could not remember the entire context of the passage. I’m very grateful…. I knew that “do not judge” was not the end of the story, but I could not recall the context thank you! 🌞

    This is a Mike Winger classic! I love love love this video still years later. It is such a common tagline to just take Matthew 7:1 out of context and ignore the rest of the passage (and the rest of the Bible for that matter).

    Wow! This cleared things up so much for me! For a bit I was wondering what a judgment actually is, I was getting confused on what judging is, but this made it so clear. Basically, a judgment is declaring what is good and what is evil. Thanks Mike!

    I definitely feel my judgement when it comes to homosexual sex is correct, as I remain celibate and do not have sex, I feel in this area I have no plank. However in the past I have struggled with pornography, and of course, someone who has lusted after another even in thought, has committed adultery. That is the plank I feel has been in my eye, and thusly my judgement of some acts has felt... unwise, I suppose? I have made a real and true commitment to end viewing pornography, I think ill be able to judge this situation more properly when that sin is fully behind me. Simply put, I dont feel I can judge someone for being addicted to pornography, gay or straight. I know its wrong, and I judge someone if they are watching pornography without remorse, but unless I get through this, I cannot say I truly judge someone for watching porn. And certainly will never judge someone for being in the midst of struggling.

    Mike, what are your thoughts on gods interesting regulation on slavery at exodus 21:20-21? Anyone who beats their male or female slave with a rod must be punished if the slave dies as a direct result, but they are not to be punished if the slave recovers after a day or two, since the slave is their property.
    Do you find this verse a sound moral teaching for humanity?

      It's simple: that is a casuistic law (see the key word IF)
      If should it happen - not that it is accepted just because it is addressed
      Eg if you speed, you will get fined. That doesn't mean you can speed as long as you are willing to pay the fine or that speeding is legal.
      Also this isn't the slavery your thinking of; "slavery" was part of their everyday lives as cars are part of ours.

    In my opinion, judgement is something subjective. You dont know if somebody judges you. I give an example about a judgement/non-judgement: MIke Winger likes cycling. Somebody who hates cycling see this as a judgement. If you dont care if somebody likes cycling, you dont see this as a judgement. So you have to have this neutral attitude or have this loving-kindness towards every person, nomatter if this person likes cycling or not. You dont judge in your heart. I choose cycling because that is usually something nobody judges and I think that behaviour is necessary also for sins.

    I am a straight Christian and have always had a difficult time understanding this issue. So if someone is born gay they obviously had no choice or. Say in there orientation. This is who they are. So if God says it's an abomination why would God allow someone to be born this way and how can we ask or tell a gay person that they must reject who they are and live a celebit life! I just am not sure how to feel about this? Also, there is a movie coming out called Boy Erased and it's about a 19 year old who was sent to have conversion therapy. Is this possible? And finally I feel there is so little compassion towards homosexuals from hardline Christians. I read today about a southern baptist church about 45 minutes from my home town that revoked a women's membership after she came out to some close ladies in that church. The church said it's members are made up of people who all agree on biblical doctrine about this issue. I'm really wanting to understand all this. I have a niece who recently came out as bisexual and I work with two people who are openly gay and my heart breaks for them if they are not welcomed into God's kingdom.

      @CC-ee7bj 6 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Hi there Richard, I'll do my best to address your comment.
      Here's the problem. We all live in a sinful world and we are sinners by our very nature. We are sinners by nature because when Adam disobeyed God and fell, he was the representative of the entire human race. see Romans 5:12-14 for reference. None of us were ever asked if we wanted Adam as our representative. None of us ever asked to be born. None of us asked for this sinful and rebellious nature, but that's the way it is. Think about what you've posted, but instead replace "gay" with "hateful" or maybe "covetous". Whether we are hateful, covetous, liars or sexually immoral we are all of these things by our nature but that is no excuse for what we do. When we break God's Law we will be condemned justly unless we turn to Christ Jesus as our Lord and Saviour. We must ALL deny ourselves and reject who we are if we are to faithfully serve Christ Jesus.
      1 Corinthians 6:9-11 shows us that when God saves them he transforms them. When we are saved we are taken from a condition of spiritual life to spiritual death (Ephesians 2:1), God takes out our old heart of stone which hated Him, and gives us a new heart of flesh which loves Him and loves obeying Him (Ezekiel 36:26). This is a SUPERNATURAL work of God Himself, "conversion therapy" is mankind's failed attempt to do in the flesh what only God can do in Spirit.
      Are some Christians guilty of showing a lack of compassion towards homosexuals? Yes. Are some Christians guilty of encouraging homosexuals to live in unrepentant sin? Yes. Should her church membership be revoked for coming out as gay? If she was repentant and looking for help in dealing with her sin, then no that was a terrible thing to do. If she was unrepentant then revoking membership was the correct thing do to. Unrepentant sinners are not to be tolerated within the church, whether they are sexually immoral, thieves or gossips if they refuse to repent they are showing themselves to be false converts who do not follow Christ Jesus. Again, 1 Corinthians 6:9-11 makes it absolutely clear that openly gay people have no place in God's Kingdom, their place shall be in the lake of fire. The good news is that if they will turn from their sin and turn to Christ Jesus as their Lord and Saviour, they will be welcomed into God's Kingdom for eternity and will never be cast out.
      On a personal note, your created playlists are available for public viewing. I'm not sure why you're watching videos of young women talking about their masturbation habits, but I strongly advise you to abstain from them. I know that I'm not immune to the sins of sexual immorality, but I certainly wouldn't want to make those sins public. I know my comment has been long, but I hope it has edified you. God bless.

    You're twisting Jesus' teaching to fit your narrative, he said not to judge others before we had removed our own sins. We are not called to judge, we are called to remind each other of our vow to Jesus, to love one another as He loved.
    Never judging, but forgiving.
    Never hating, but loving.
    Never hurting each other, but healing those that seek.

    "Is rape evil" and then "who are you to judge" is too brutal. The "who are you to judge" comes usually in a much subtle issues like if someone would say "calvinists are going to hell" and then many would say "who are you to judge where they go" and here the ones who says "who are you to judge" actually makes a good point and this is why it is not so simple.

    You're against homosexuality because your Bible disapproves of it. But many members of the lgbt community don't believe in your Bible or God, so bringing it up while making your case against homosexuality is irrelevant

    • @turksungerbob728
      @turksungerbob728 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Randy Van Horn just because you "believe" in something doesn't mean it IS true. They don't believe in it, so if you're trying to make a case to convince them against what they're doing, do it with something that they already accept as true. It's like when a Muslim tries to say that eating pork is haram and Christians shouldn't do it cuz it says so in the Quran. Now, would you take that seriously? You also haven't given a reason as to why it's a sin but consenting heterosexual intercource isn't.
      They don't need a savior. You haven't demonstrated that there even is a hellfire to be saved from.
      He's judging 2 consenting adults for doing something which causes no harm. That judgment isn't justified, so any judgment against that unjustified judgment will be justified. You see?

But is also the case that Christians are supposed to be more concerned about helping people see the truth of Christ. Judging someone is defined as making a person question their beliefs, intelligence, character, decisions, or preferences in a way that causes shame.
    If you think it is morally wrong for 2 mature adults to have consenting sex, then of course I'm gonna judge you! What do you expect?
    When I say "who are you to judge?" I'm not saying that you should never ever judge anybody. I'm saying that your judgment, in this case, is unjustifiable and often downright wrong.

    • @turksungerbob728
      @turksungerbob728 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      As I've reflected on this comment months later, I've decided to retract a portion of it. More specifically, I've focused on the "in a way that causes shame" and the "intelligence, character,... or preferences" parts of the definition of the word "judgement". I don't think doing that and making them feel ashamed in the process is the way forward regarding rational discourse between people of differing views. So no, I am not for judging people who oppose or disagree with LGBT, going by that definition. It isn't a healthy and productive way of engaging with other people who hold conflicting ideas. I am, however, all for encouraging people in a friendly manner to question their beliefs and be skeptical of their preconceived biases/assumptions. I guess I guess didn't pay close enough attention to the definition.

I will be shamed for being virgin and you know this very well, this is not judgement? why do you guys complain? lets speak about incest , do you support it? 2 twin sisters wanna marry each other, 2 twin sisters they can not have child , so would you support it? Mike Winger Sweetie, these are only “important issues” in your mind. I have been gay on this Earth for nearly 50 years. When you are saying that I am not worthy of the same rights you enjoy because of your religion, there is no “reasoning” to do. And every single therapist and psychologist will tell you that people who talk about condemning homosexuals all the time typically are gay themselves. And ONE MORE TIME, the word “homosexual” was added to the Bible in 1943. Before that, God was fine with me, so...

The English word "homosexual" is of recent vintage but the idea is as old as Sodom.
