Question thought u shouldn’t run ground wire from amp to the battery directly??? I have a popping noise from my speakers when I hit my air ride switch is this bad ground??
Coils (fill, dump vavles and compressor relays magnatize and cause a voltage feedback every time they are turned off or on. That is known, What isnt so known is why some audio sytems pick up that noise so much better than others. Typically it is ground issue but not always. Its more common on systems that use RCA cables. that are ran from the head unit to the amps. But again, thats not always the case. First thing I do is eliminate all body grounds/frame grounds. Then I put a diode acorss the positive and negative wires feeding the coils. The diode I use is the 1N4005. The diode has a stripe on one side that must go to the positive wire. The closer they are to the vavle the better they will work. This si the diodes amzn.to/4a4mtEa ...this is apretty common issue on harleys after installing air ride. And this is the fix everyone uses.
Looks good. One thing you always want to disconnect ground first and reconnect it last on a battery. that way if you are connecting the positive connection and your tool or something happens to touch the frame or something that is grounded it won't short out.
Great video. I never think that 20 minutes is too long when it is good content. There was a lot of info in the video that we appreciate. Thanks for putting the channel up.
Just purchased a 21' SGS, my first harley. So naturally, wanting to start the upgrade process on the bike. I search up speaker install on YT and I'm brought to this channel. Towards the end I just realized your out of Marion, Illinois. I lived and graduated from Carterville. I live in clarksville, TN now. I'll be certainly reaching out to you guys for an install. Awesome video as well. Was very straight forward.
Hog tunes sucks for the money, I’m a Rockford fosgate fan, they have plug and play and everything is so easy to install, kills me to hear guys pay for Harley install when they could have used the money for better equipment. Great video and advanblack has some great stuff for half the price! Keep up the good work.
You can still do far, but far better, than RF for the price you paid for it. RF IS a great product, but no different from Hogtunes when it comes to Pricing. Too much money for what it does. www.motorcyclessoundsystems.com/ facebook.com/MotorcyclesSoundSystems/ instagram.com/motorcyclessoundsystems/
@@motorcyclessoundsystems-mi2785 no lie i paid 1329 for an RF amp and 4 speakers but man its loud lol im on the fence about flashing radio any ideas of a better way
Another great video with a ton of helpful info! Keep ‘em rollin! Thanks for all your time and effort and if it hasn’t been said before, I appreciate the fact that you do it all for free!
I really like your videos. The only issue I have is that I feel left out with my older twin cam bagger when you talk about dismantling tanks and wiring.
Yeah sorry man we dont get that many older models in here anymore to do work on...I try to do videos on them when we do though...just few and far between! thanks for hanging in there with us though...we appreciate that. If you ever have any questions just let me know. Take care, ride safe and have a merry christmas!
Great video. I have been looking at videos for the installation like this on my FLHX Harley. I stopped the video several times to make notes so I can order the parts. Never heard of those Ferrell crimps. Solved that wire problem. Fantastic job. I subscribed so I could comment. Thanks
Thank you gary...those things and the solder heat shrinks will cut your install time way down. Any questions on anything just let me know. Thanks for the sub and checking it out!
the internal pod bracing is there to provide rigidity to the plastic to keep it from resonating at certain frequencies. if you cut a hole in the pod to make more room you prevent resonance, and vibration, but you also prevent sound pressure behind the driver which causes bass loss. the best solution would be to make the pods out of a dead material, reinforce the plastic pods, or pack them with batting material to absorb resonant freqs.
good to see , maybe some people aren't comfortable doing this job and can see what's in store for them. then make a decision to either get a pro or go it on their own. awesome
Agreed! I see a lot of jobs come in here that should have went to a shop but hell I give them credit for trying. Just takes a little longer to sort out
Thank you for you continued support videos, without people like yourself a lot of harley owners would be spending their money on crap OEM upgrads. I do have a question, I have a 2016 road glide, will this amp you have listed fit into a road glide fairing or do I need to find a smaller amp? Thank you
thnk you for this video , did answer some questions i had like where you did with the remote wire but also im doing this to a 2020 Road Glide adding 4 6.5 maring Skar Audio and a 400w amp micro
Thank you! Its not too bad once you get in there...dont be afraid to move the oem wires around, cram and position where they will go, just watch pinch points when turning the handlebars and youll be fine.
Awesome video as always always appreciate the time you take out of your busy day for us can’t thank you enough wish you were in Texas god bless brother
a good mid range will sound great in the front without tweeters...you can always bump it up to something is more full range or add tweeters to mirror holes and move your mirrors to the handlebars..if your bike is a RG then you can buy new grills with tweeters in them.
Thank you for the video. I see some amps that say you need to 'Flash' the stock unit, and other amps that say no flash needed. Can you comment on the difference, what flashing is, and what you recommend.
Thanks Steven, another great video. If I just wanted to change my speakers on a 2014 ultra limited, (stock system) is there anything special that would need to be done?
Hey Tim...sorry I missed this comment man...But no its all the same inside there. Biggest pain is to get those pods out to change the speakers. other than that swap them out and use the eq on the head unit to make them sound as good as you can with no distortion at high volumes. Distortion causes heat and heat destroys speakers.
Great how to video and love the links to all the specific items that is outstanding. Question the line leveler you use does it nullify the need to "flash" the harley radio that I've heard about? Would hate to do all this upgrading for it to not sound great
Thanks, that's a great video. It's very detailed and informative. How would I go about wiring in a pair of speakers into my saddlebags on my 2017 Street Glide Special with that same set up?
yes...this video is quite old and there is better out there and this is what I use now for this set up.. You dont have to have it "flashed" but it helps with flattening the EQ on the stock radio so you can tune it with a DSP...if you dont plan on running a DSP I wouldnt worry about it
Factory radios on 2014 and newer Harley-Davidson audio systems use a “high fidelity” EQ curve. This EQ will cause excessive distortion with any amplified audio upgrade and will lead to speaker damage. Hence, “flash” your factory radio to remove this EQ. This has to be done with special equipment and by a shop who know, like us. @t @t @t
@@williamwirtkayaksarge485 if you install the amp and it is not yet flashed. I ti will sound like crap. So either right before your start the project or right after you are done.

Real simple question before I take you're advice and try this install. My 2017 Ultra Limited has 2 Ohms speakers in the front and in the back. If I upgrade the wiring to all four speakers and install the new 8 Ohms in front and the 4 Ohms in the rear, I shouldn't run into any problem using the setup you're describing as long as I'm using my stock radio and I don't already have a factory amp installed. Would that be correct? Thank you for your time and the video's
I’ve got a 2007 Electra glide classic, original stereo and two front speakers only. I’d like to upgrade stereo and speakers... POSSIBLY add two trunk speakers...$600 max budget. Can you advise (which brand)? I’m. guessing I’d have to add an amp if I go with the two trunk speakers... thanks for all you do. I’ve already successfully put lights on following another video of yours.
Will the amp you installed power four of those speakers? Might be a dumb question but had to ask looking to add two more of those DS18s. Your videos have saved me hundreds if not thousands of dollars. I appreciate you sir.
yes sir you can push 4 speakers with that amp...4 channel amp so you can bridge it for nearly twice the power to run 2 speakers or just run 4 speakers at the normal wattage
Hi Steven great video. Question I'm upgrading my audio system in my 202 street glide special with new Boom Box radio, my Amp already comes with high line inputs foe each channel, How can determine which wire from the oem speaker wire is positive and which is the negative?
The larger spade on the bikes wiring will be positive ..but a simple test can be done to find positive. if you have a volt meter, put it on AC volts and touch it on the speaker connections to find + and -. If you get +12v that is correct, if you get -12v that is backwards. This will help you identify + and - on the speaker.
Hey Steve thanks for all the videos. I installed the ss nano 1000.4 amp, and fairing and lower fairing speakers. Put bike back together and all worked fine. Took it to Harley to have it flashed and they looked at me like I was stupid because it wasn’t boom or RF. Told me they didn’t know what to flash it to. So I drove home! Wondering if you could steer me in the right direction on what to tell the HD service guy to flash it to! Thanks in advance
I have since found out they quit flashing radios unless its thier radio gear. The old "flash " was simply turning the internal amp off and also turning on the rear speaker wires that are under your fairing. If you have eveything hooked up now and its working just keep the bass turned down on the head unit, turn off the volume speed control and set your gains for your speakers and you will be fine. My SG had 10 speakers and 3 amps ran off the stock unit and it was fine. I never had anything done. I only suggested to turn on the rear channels but its not necessary
Hey thanks for the video. How did you mount the amp to the tray in the fairing? I got the same setup but I cannot figure out how to best mount that amp since its too big to sit down in the tray.
i use tool box liners from any hardware store...cut it too fit so there is no vibration between the amp and tray and then big zip ties or double sided sticky velcro strips. You zip it down good and it wont move
I have a 2021 road glide limited, installed speakers and an amp, I couldnt find the rear speakers harness to plug into the amp. Where are the rear speaker harness? I definitely need a book.
I did a similar install on my 2013 using the same amp and am getting terrible FM interference when I go over 1/3 volume. Any suggestions? Great video, made me a lot more comfortable taking this on.
Yeah, I wasn’t aware I needed a line output converter. Amp - $500, Install Kit $200, Speakers x 4 $$$, Hope the LOC doesn’t break the bank. I’m halfway through the install with no instructions or pre-req list. I’m gonna die when I find out it needs to be flashed. Well, thank you for all your help. I would be down a bad rabbit hole right now without this video!!

Hey Scott...on the SG fairing there wont be that much get in because of where they are mounted and the RG ...well id say plenty will get in with those curved speaker grills. However I have ran mine in rain a few times and never had an issue. There are 3m products out there that you can spray on these that wont affect the sound quality or damage the speaker.
I noticed the DS-18’s are midrange speakers, are you getting good sound even though it’s not a full range speaker? Also do I need the LOC with a Sony AX7000?
you do not need a LOC on a sony unit they have rca inputs already and youll get decent sound from the midrange...you can only get better sound if you use a midbass and then add some tweeters somewhere.
Love the video and find it very helpful along with all the comments and questions -Thanks. I just purchased a set of AVB lowers with speaker pods for a 2018 SGS. I am planning to install DS18 Pro's in the lowers and switch out the upper fairing speakers to DS18 PRO also. I have a few questions if anyone would be willing to share; 1. Are the DS18 Pro's a good/best choice? 2. Should I get 4 or 8 ohm speakers 3. I am currently looking at the Rockford Fosgate TM400X2AD amp - is this a good choice? Thanks again
I use tesa tape around the plugs and try to grab part of the port so it holds it all together...and tesa tape wont come apart over time like electric tape. I use this amzn.to/4ab1W16
i'm pretty confused on a 4 channel with high level input conversion built in and still used a line level converter - if the head unit and/or speaker wires are that noisy i think id just switch head units - props for speaking up about amp gain - i still check with a cheap scope - even some of the cheap graphing multi-meters are handy for level setting and to make sure you're not clipping
You can use the HL input over the LOC...I just installed it this way for example because thats what was in the shop that day...If your doing this to other bikes make sure to mark the gains..lesson learned the hard way after a buddy cranked his gains after he left and smoked his amp..im to the point now I even take a picture and store it on my pc and mark whos bike it was. If they bring it back and the gain has been moved...tell them to kick bricks!
@@sikbaggers Helping a buddy out with his 2013 street glide but i don't do bikes - how much power do i have to play with on these bikes - i know the stator is 30A at 1000rpm and 54A max but how much does the bike use - his system is crap and im looking to spec out a new one from the ground up but i don't want to stress the charging circuit
Man I love this video!!! but I’d like to clear up two things because I think this is why you are doing what you’re doing and saving people a lot of money: First thing is you don’t flash the system because you’re using a line converter… but that’s not going to get rid of the crazy EQ curve that Harley uses on the speaker outputs on there boom audio, your just stepping that signal down to line voltage but it’s still going to send that crazy eq signal to your new power amp instead of a flat signal...but that’s ok because we’re talking about a motorcycle and we don’t really need that type of fidelity like you would do with a car?....or do you still need to flash the system and get rid of the eq. My other question is the speakers are not coaxial just mids, where do you get the high end from or do the mids have a high enough hi end frequency to hear the hi’s that you need? and the same scenario applies where these companies sell you a bunch of BS and people just go way over the top with everything and tweeters that end up clipping and distorting at the volume that you really need when driving down the road on a motorcycle but what you really mead is loud clean volume so you can hear doing 60-70 down the road...it’s not about the fidelity it’s about being clean and loud… Is that the reason why we can just go with mids? Thx again for a great video... Dan
Dan Rider, I read everything in full and I will do my best to respond. 1. Yes, the Flash is to flatten out the Boom EQ setting as much as possible. 2. It’s Not OK to NOT Flash when upgrading your motorcycle audio, even if you’re using coaxial speakers with an amp that has a very good integrated Crossover, such as Soundigital, Triton-Audio, Diamond, etc. Not Flashing will cause the EQ curve to eventually ruin your system. 3. Finally, Steve installed what’s considered to be a pro equipment setup. It is not a coaxial system. These are independent speakers that play at different frequencies, which are manipulated and control with a Digital Signal Processor. We installed Midranges in the front fairing, dual voice coil Midbasses on the lids, and Tweeter Drivers. I assure you, you will not ride at 90 mph on Steves bike with the volume over 60% because it is “Clearly” loud. The key word is “Clearly” If you have spent significant monies on an audio upgrade and are loud, but not “Clear”, you went to the wrong Shop or Audio Builder. thanks for the step by step video straight to the point awesome video man god bless brother 👊👌also not a long waste time of video like other people do thank you.
you would have tro butcher your pod pretty good to get that rubber surround on that magnet in there to fit. Its a decent speaker but its marine grade and these pods wont usually fit PRO Audio Marine Grades like that
heavier gauge wire for the bigger amp...stock is 12. Use any online chart to see how much your amps is pushing vs how long the wire is and itll show you the gauge you need.
Hello @sikbaggers what is your current speaker and amp recommendation (with only 2 faring speakers) now 3 years later? I noticed a year or so ago you recommended a different speaker. Thanks
Hey Steve! Great video! You’re definitely helping us bikers, all over the world, build more confidence in doing a lot of things ourselves now! One question, I’m wanting to junk my Boom Audio Stage II speakers on my 2019 RGS, and hook it up with all DS18 sound...what’s your professional opinion on the DS18 Pro’s? Very impressive sound quality? Would you buy it? Thanks in advance, and keep on slangin them vids brother! ✌🏼
Thank you Danny...Much appreciated. The ds18s are a solid choice for the price rage for sure. They only issue I have found is there are no 8" mid bass speakers for the 8" lids. Now that being said adding anything that can handle bass is fine...in the parking lot. Riding down the road youre not going to hear that bass at all. So adding a a decent set of 8ohm speakers and getting a 4 ohm or 2ohm stable amp so you can bridge the amp and add more power to them is the best route for a clean, loud sound.
Hey Steve, first of all you definitely have the best looking videos and comprehensive list of diy stuff out there. I have a quick question... I already have some Infinity Kappa 62IX 6.5" 2 ohm...these should work good with the rest of your set up shouldn't they? Thanks for any and all info, love your channel man keep it up for us with thick skulls. 💀
Thank you Jeffrey..sorry for thr late reply...been down wit the flu for a couple of weeks. And yes the 6.5 kappas will work great..thats a great speaker. Just watch running 2 ohm speakers if you start adding speakers to them like in series...that will cause you to draw 1 ohm and then most amps are not 1 ohm stable.
Got a question. I have a 14 street glide. The kappa 6.5 ix flange was to thick. The speaker box side mount bolt holes wouldn't line up. How did you get them to line up?
Im curious, your using car speakers to mount in a bike? Isnt there water issues with that? The amp your using has high inputs so why add the line out converter?
Hi Steve have several questions and cannot find a utube that is specific to it... 1 - Do I have to use the Power Yellow and the Remote Blue cable if my Amp already has it ? Meaning all I will need to connect is the Speaker wire. 2 - I have the PAC LP7-4 L.O.C. PRO Series 4-Channel device, I'm only going to tap in the front speakers, so I will use 2 channel on the PAC, can I just twist the other two channels together ? Meaning I will use the White and Gray for the 2 channels, can I just twist the Green to the White and the Purple to the Gray for all 4 channels and then go all 4 channels to my amp RCA ? 3 - The the Gain on the PAC will only have the adjustment on one side which is the Right and Left Rear Or Front ? or would I need to adjust both Gains to the same ?
I'm thinking of going with this setup, do I need to have my bike flashed or does the LOC take care of that? For now I'm just upgrading fairing speakers and putting in amp, but down the road may be adding bag speakers and/or lower pods
If you are going to put in an AMP then yes, you will need it flashed to remove the factor set EQ. The thing is I do not think Harley will flash it any more as they will only do it if you go to thier BOOM upgrade. However, you can look up a fosgate certified shop in your area and they can flash it for you. If you do not get it flashed and you hook up an amp then it may pop and sound like crap. If you go with new fairing speaker then I would look at mmats or better yet if you are not into modifying pods look ath the Hertz SX165 NEO SPL for fairing speakers and they are weather proof. Also make sure you use oxygen free copper wire. NEVER use CCA for wiring. And you may want to consider a DSP DSR1 from fosgate especially when you go to rear speakers lids later on down the line. Look at the sound digita; evo x 800.4 amps. Great raw power,
General questions, first you have two different speakers listed on your link. I am looking to add two batwing fairing speakers and maybe later adding advant speaker lids? Will this amp handle both sets of speakers?
yes..one is 8 ohm and one is 4 ohm....it depends on your set up or what your final set up will be as to what ohm ou purchase. if you are going to 4 speakers I would get a sound digital 800.4
Hey man. I have a 2005 Electra glide and wanted to know if you have installed these speakers in this fairing with the speaker side converters so it goes from 5.25- 6.25. Just wondering if they will fit or if they are going to hit the fairing? Also what would you recommend for speakes instead of these that will fit my bike. I hope you are able to help and I appreciate you and your videos.
we dont use the ds18 speakers much anymore as they changed their basket design and pretty much wont fit anything any more...a great speaker for your bike with 5.25 to 6.5 inch convertors and one we use quite a bit for a fairing up grade is the PRV Shallow 6.5's and I get them from amazon here amzn.to/3J2qtc4 We have had great luck with these pro audio speakers. Im not sure on your amp set up or how many other speakers you have but if you are just doing the fairing these are awesome.
I used to like them til I started getting a bunch of them back..and I hope you ordered the ones that dont say ds18 down the basket edges...those are so thick now they wont fit anything...they have to have the normal metal basket that has no ds18 on them to fit

Sorry if this has been asked and answered…if I’m just planning on doing the 2 fairing speakers with the amp in your parts list do I go with the 4 or 8 ohm speakers?
hey now worries ill try to explain it...if you get a 4 channel bridgable amp you and get the 8 ohm speakers and bridge the amp to 2 channel....meaning using all 4 channel on 2 speakers..that would bring the load down in half..from 8 ohm to 4 ohm draw from the amp. The amp should be 4ohm stable bridgeable amp. Adding more speakers later will effect this though. So make sure you only want the fairing speakers and never plan on adding more..if you do you will have to change the amp more than likely. There are a ton of variables that come into play.
I tried with the LOC but couldn’t get it to read the voltage like it was supposed to so I just used the high level input and it sounds 1000% louder than my factory setup
Hey another great video what kind of amp is that an what kind of speakers were those or what do you recommend for speakers an amp for my 2014 street glide take care brother
You've made videos and covered alot of things that I did and want to do on my bike. Thanks! 2 questions. Can I buy that "I void warranties " t shirt? And are the pro audio speakers waterproof? Or does it matter?
We will be doing a version of the warranties shirt on out FB page...the speakers I have are not waterproof. Most marine grade speakers will not fit in any 8" lid. I suggest you purchase some covers from SKN-IT and cover them if you see rain...this is the best way to protect them.
Factory stereo systems connected with high-level inputs will not sound as good as low-level inputs. If your using an aftermarket stereo, there won't be much of a difference between high-level or low-level inputs on basic systems. If you're going higher end use low-level inputs.
The 2011 more than likely has the 5.25 inch fairing speakers, start there by getting some 5.25 to 6.5 inch speaker adapters off amazon for about 20 bucks...upgrade to a pro audio 6.5 speaker. PRV, Ground Zero, DS18 etc about 200 for a pair is a rough price on pro audio. ....get a Sound Digital 800.4 EVOX 4 channel amp. This is a pretty basic major fairing upgrade from what you have in the bike now. Those speakers are about 35 watt speakers...the pro audios will be around 200-300 watt speakers...you and your passenger wont have any trouble hearing this set up at 70mph half volume.
@Jeff Burgess Its your choice but it will sound like crap if its not flashed and you already have the amp installed. Another words if you do it after do not play it long or loud until that has been flashed.
I have a 2018 Electra glide Police edition. It did not come with a radio wording harness. I have a stock radio I’d like to put in it. Will a street glide harness work ?
Hey Steven, great video !! I was wondering how well the ds18's would work with the stock unit on my 2015 TriGlide, I'd like to just replace the speakers but I don't know if the stock unit has enough ass to drive those, or do I need the amp. My cheap ass Harley speaker in the rear pod is blown !! Imagine that !! Thanks for the help brother !
Hey Steve...If you get the shallow mount..your bike has stock holes for 5.5 inch speakers and you will need to get the 5.5 to 65 spacer adapter which takes away some room in between your speaker and the outer fairing. You may already have the adapter in there if you're running 6.5 now but that is what you have to watch for...gotta be able to get that outer fairing back on and not hit the agent of the speaker.
Hope you see this !! How much different would it be to do on my 2011 Street glide I know 14’ up they changed and would I have to run a amp if I got the 6.5 speakers you have linked down below. Any suggestions on speakers that don’t need a amp ? It does have a aftermarket radio in it previous owner had installed I believe. But it just don’t get that loud. Thank you.
Well the 2014 doesn't require an amp and the 13 downs dont either. But if you are wanting louder you may look into one. Simply adding a different speaker isn't going to make it louder. Most single din after market radios have about 200 watts max average, depending on what radio you have...that's 200 divided by 4 channels. so 50 watts MAX...not RMS....RMS is actual power at normal listening..so now your down to about 35 watts RMS per channel. If you add 2 x 300 watt speakers you are still only giving it 35 watts...so its not louder. Add an amp and you are now giving your 300 watt speakers at least 200 to 250 watts and now its louder. As far as adding the amp, you said you already have an aftermarket radio...so there is no need for using the LOC ...the radio will have, or should have, 4 rca outputs on it..those go straight to the amp and then bare wire back to your speakers. Plus there are no pods to take out..your speakers are right there..4 screws, change them out...13 downs are so much easier. If you need any more help please let me know...but I hope this gets you going in the right direction.
@@sikbaggers I really appreciate the help. And even more helpful on the quick reply and answering questions before I even asked them thank very much. I’m probably going to order the amp and speakers because there’s no sense in doing it if I’m not going to do it right the first time. I just gotta get to it soon spring is coming!!
I have a 2021 Electra Glide Standard. This bike comes with no head unit or speakers. I am planning to do the exact set up you are doing here. My question is this the bike comes pre wired to plug my after market head unit directly into it. Since I am using the aftermarket head unit and its never had the stock head unit in it does it need to be flashed?
I wish you guys were closer. I live in Michigan and can't find a reputable bike stereo shop. Anyone I talk to tells me I am screwed and need to drop about 2500.00 on my bike minimum...UGH
8 or 4 ohm will depend on what youre doing..what are your plans for the bike as far as audio? fairing and lids, just the fairing> fairing and lower fairing speakers? all that makes a difference
@@sikbaggers just the fairing install you did, no future plans of saddle bag speakers or lower fairing pods. Also, I have a 2019, is a flash required, or recommended?

Thanks for the sub and checking it out!
the internal pod bracing is there to provide rigidity to the plastic to keep it from resonating at certain frequencies. if you cut a hole in the pod to make more room you prevent resonance, and vibration, but you also prevent sound pressure behind the driver which causes bass loss. the best solution would be to make the pods out of a dead material, reinforce the plastic pods, or pack them with batting material to absorb resonant freqs.
yes...to make cheap harley and rockford fosgate 55 watt plug and play speakers sound better.
good to see , maybe some people aren't comfortable doing this job and can see what's in store for them. then make a decision to either get a pro or go it on their own. awesome

You dont have to have it "flashed" but it helps with flattening the EQ on the stock radio so you can tune it with a DSP...if you dont plan on running a DSP I wouldnt worry about it
I got a dsa1 Rockford mdp. Do the digital processor hook up before or after the amp. Thanks for answering my questions. Love the video
Great video and instructions, thanks. One question, why does harley say you have to flash the radio. Is that necessary?
I’m wondering the same. When do you need to flash the factory radio?
Factory radios on 2014 and newer Harley-Davidson audio systems use a “high fidelity” EQ curve. This EQ will cause excessive distortion with any amplified audio upgrade and will lead to speaker damage. Hence, “flash” your factory radio to remove this EQ. This has to be done with special equipment and by a shop who know, like us.

Did you do this?
I’ve got a 2007 Electra glide classic, original stereo and two front speakers only. I’d like to upgrade stereo and speakers... POSSIBLY add two trunk speakers...$600 max budget. Can you advise (which brand)? I’m. guessing I’d have to add an amp if I go with the two trunk speakers... thanks for all you do. I’ve already successfully put lights on following another video of yours.
Epic video!!! Would that same amount fit in a 21 RGS?
Awesome video. Lots of great Info Same set up for 4 speakers ? Thanks in advance ,Love this channel
Sorry for the late reply, just got back from Sturgis, but yes its all the same for 2 or 4 channels

I appreciate your timely response!!! Thanks again!
So with adding a amp to factory stereo you don’t have to get system flashed? When do you need Harley to flash the system?

Steve,Just wondering how much water will get to the speakers if they are not water proof? This is a great install video and thanks for sharing.
Never wet is a good solution for that issue. You can get it at Walmart or home depot or at a local hardware store.
Great video Steven. Is it possible to install further two speakers for the lower fairings with this kit? Thank you in advance. Hannes
If you install a 4 channel amp you can run the front as front and the lowers as rear.

1. Are the DS18 Pro's a good/best choice?
2. Should I get 4 or 8 ohm speakers
3. I am currently looking at the Rockford Fosgate TM400X2AD amp - is this a good choice?

I use the exact setup with the soundstream nano amp. How do you keep the RCA cable from vibrating off of the amp?

Question about the speakers. Are they waterproof if not what would you suggest that is?
Polk Audio makes a nice line of marine grade speakers
Hi Steve have several questions and cannot find a utube that is specific to
it...
1 - Do I have to use the Power Yellow and the Remote Blue cable if my
Amp already has it ? Meaning all I will need to connect is the Speaker
wire.
2 - I have the PAC LP7-4 L.O.C. PRO Series 4-Channel device, I'm only
going to tap in the front speakers, so I will use 2 channel on the PAC,
can I just twist the other two channels together ? Meaning I will use
the White and Gray for the 2 channels, can I just twist the Green to the
White and the Purple to the Gray for all 4 channels and then go all 4
channels to my amp RCA ?
3 - The the Gain on the PAC will only have the adjustment on one side which is the Right and Left Rear Or Front ? or would I need to adjust both Gains to the same ?
Are the speakers used water resistant or marine grade?
Do you have to get the radio flash using that line output converter? Also will that line output converter work with sound digital amplifier?
Having your radio flashed will flatten the outputs creating better sound for your amplifier to work with. however you do not have to do it.

How do you like those ds18pros? I just ordered some.
I used to like them til I started getting a bunch of them back..and I hope you ordered the ones that dont say ds18 down the basket edges...those are so thick now they wont fit anything...they have to have the normal metal basket that has no ds18 on them to fit
So I got a question; with the AMP connected directly to battery will what will keep the AMP from drawing down the battery?
The amp won't start drawing power until the remote wire sees power to turn the amp on.

SIK Baggers thank you.
If you use the amp listed you don’t need the LOC it has speaker level high input
most of them do...High level input sucks...its worth the 25 bucks to get a LOC
I tried with the LOC but couldn’t get it to read the voltage like it was supposed to so I just used the high level input and it sounds 1000% louder than my factory setup
Hey another great video what kind of amp is that an what kind of speakers were those or what do you recommend for speakers an amp for my 2014 street glide take care brother

Awesome video. Very very helpful. Subscribed!
I suggest you purchase some covers from SKN-IT and cover them if you see rain...this is the best way to protect them.
curious why u used a line out converter and not just take wires from speakers to high input of amp?
Factory stereo systems connected with high-level inputs will not sound as good as low-level inputs. If your using an aftermarket stereo, there won't be much of a difference between high-level or low-level inputs on basic systems. If you're going higher end use low-level inputs.
Did you tie both the remote wire for the amp and remote for the LOC into the aux wire?
yes..you can do that.
I have a street glide special do I need to flash the head unit for this install
Awesome video, thanks!!
Good video..i have 2011 Electra glide..any recommendations on a stereo system with amp? Thank you
The 2011 more than likely has the 5.25 inch fairing speakers, start there by getting some 5.25 to 6.5 inch speaker adapters off amazon for about 20 bucks...upgrade to a pro audio 6.5 speaker. PRV, Ground Zero, DS18 etc about 200 for a pair is a rough price on pro audio. ....get a Sound Digital 800.4 EVOX 4 channel amp. This is a pretty basic major fairing upgrade from what you have in the bike now. Those speakers are about 35 watt speakers...the pro audios will be around 200-300 watt speakers...you and your passenger wont have any trouble hearing this set up at 70mph half volume.
should I get my radio flashed before I start hooking up the amp and speakers to my stock radio? 2020 road glide special
Is that an Advanblack inner fairing? I’ve heard they don’t line up well with the HD stock outter fairing??
Hey Steven, great video !! I was wondering how well the ds18's would work with the stock unit on my 2015 TriGlide, I'd like to just replace the speakers but I don't know if the stock unit has enough ass to drive those, or do I need the amp. My cheap ass Harley speaker in the rear pod is blown !! Imagine that !! Thanks for the help brother !
You would definitely need an amp for those. Those are pro audio and need about 100 watts minimum to push...stock radio is about 15 watts
Hey Steve
Another great vid
Do you know if the DS18 6.5
Fit in a 2012 SG..
Would love to try a pair.
Thanks!
Did you use marine speakers
is there a link for the in line fuse? also was wondering which head unit you would recommend for an 09 streetglide. Thanks for the video!
the best of the best head unit is the Aquatic AV AQ-MP-5UBT-S. youll spend some coin on it but it is worth every penny
can you use the converter for front and rear speakers like i have on my ultra classic? thanks
yes you can
Hope you see this !!
Since I am using the aftermarket head unit and its never had the stock head unit in it does it need to be flashed?
im going to say yes on that,....harley will need to turn everything on...its not really a flash per say but they open up the wiring and turn it all on
1/2 the time is getting those bottom screw out and back in.
yes..they suck...after doing a crap ton of them now its like second nature although Is till hate it lol I dread that part.
I wish you guys were closer. I live in Michigan and can't find a reputable bike stereo shop. Anyone I talk to tells me I am screwed and need to drop about 2500.00 on my bike minimum...UGH
2500? holy shit I could deck you out with 2500 and you could do competitions...
@@sikbaggers I am not apposed to riding down to Illinois and getting a system put in. I just want clearer and a little louder then I got.
Which speakers did you use? The 8 or 4 ohm? Looks like both are in the parts list
