When I bought my Mercedes 2 years ago, I binge watched your CLA videos Nick, they really helped me out. I love Mercedes as a brand, and now work in a Merc Dealership. Every single employee knows about you, and I've lost count of the number of times I've recommended your channel to customers. This is the only Mercedes Benz channel I and many others watch, your knowledge is outstanding😃
Golds is bang on nick..your knowledge of mercs is top class..you certainly helped me regarding my wonderful cla35 amg..which after 9months...hate getting out of it!😂...love that e.class ..estate...beautiful..cheers again mate gazzz 👍
A couple of years ago on a trip in France, I met a German motorcyclist who was one of the lead engineer’s responsible for programming the E Class aircon system. He was a really interesting guy, and explained how complex the entire system was to create, programme and actually make work! Great review, found your channel by accident and have since subscribed!
Another cracking video. Thanks Nick. I have a 2022 e300e plug in hybrid, that has so many extras that satisfy me. (Until today). It even has a light on a flexible metal stick that the passenger can use to read at night. I’ve never seen that on any other car, but what you have just reviewed, wow. A tech. freak like myself would be in heaven. Fantastic video again Nick. Mercedes should give you a S Class for your own personal use, because of all of the cracking videos you make for them.
If it’s not charged it’ll be whatever the engine’s economy is + carrying the weight of the battery. My estimation is around the 30’s for MPG. This is based on the fact the standard engine can achieve up to 43.5 MPG.
@@npoleary so, the it runs out of battery it works like a combustion engine car only? Not like standard HEV Toyota/Lexus ( when the battery is empty ) ?
You’ll have some hybrid elements working like where the engine turns off as you slow down and brake regen charging the battery up a little. But to actually drive on electric again, yes you would need to plug it in. Plug-in Hybrids have to be plugged in to charge back up where as self regenerative hybrids are a little different. Toyota & Lexus I think still offer those but, they’re still powered by only fuel. Plug-in hybrids have an alternative fuel source which is electricity and can travel further without touching fuel but…need to be plugged in.
Since we are not getting the All Terrain the next time you are in an e class that has the optional air suspension (standard on 450d) can you see if it has the off road modes as standard. As in raise ride height. Thanks
Hi Nick. great video thank you. If we order the exclusive Premium plus on Nappa Neva grey would the Steering wheel be in Grey colour or black colour. this is for for the UK market. please advise. thanks a lot
Thank you @fmalek24! Glad you enjoyed it! Really sorry I wouldn’t know on that one, probably best to ask someone who works at Mercedes like their product experts or sales people. I’m sure they can look into it for you! I did have a quick look on the resources I have available but that’s a question I’d ask them! It’s not very clear in their brochures if it is changed or not. I will add I don’t think I’ve ever seen the steering wheel change colour before on different trims on the cars I’ve reviewed but there is a note on AMG’s where it changes but not sure on the colour specifically.
Dimensions - great videos Nick but when you share dimensions it would be helpful to compare to the previous model so we know how it compares in relative terms. So is it longer, taller, wider etc.
Thanks for the feedback! Always looking to make the videos better! 🙏🙏 I’ll work on something like that for the future, although the next few videos at least have already been filmed so bear with me 🤗
Weeks back I asked you about the GLB…comparing it to my W207’s power…I decided to trade up to the E200 exclusive (mini S class)! I can’t wait! Great review!

Thanks for showing the passenger media menu looks like you might be able to access Bluetooth content list. I hope we get the All Terrain version again at some point. The rear seats in the previous one were really poor no room and you couldn’t get your feet under front seats without driver being on the roof. Is this one noticeably bigger in the back?
That’s alright! Ah that would be good! 😊 I think so, there’s plenty of leg room although it does depend how low the driver’s seat is though so might be worth a test 👍🏼 I had it not completely down low just a little bit raised
Thanks for a great review as always Nick. Lovely car and I must be getting old, but I like the interior colour. Also a massive positive is the ash ( admittedly plastic ) trim rather than the shiny plastic used in far too many MBs. A couple of things I’m not a fan of are the vents being controlled via the screen. Seems to answer a problem we didn’t have? I’m not getting the MB star attempt on the back lights. Seems a bit of a clumsy effort for me, to shoe horn in a potentially clever idea. All in all a much more aesthetically pleasing car than an EQE and I want that super screen ….. providing it’s not too reflective 😂.
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it! I think the vents just gives people a choice, the trend out there is going for a more minimalistic approach but this way it offers the best of both worlds 🤓
Nice to see a more integrated screen in that car. Thanks for the update. You seem enthusiastic about it. The problem with touch-screen buttons is that it's not hard at all to swipe one unintentionally while driving. I get that Mercedes expects some degree of precision from drivers, to match their precision engineering, but I'd prefer the slightly-clumsy-accommodating positive response push buttons.
I’m all for tech in a car! 🤓 I have a similar steering wheel in my own car and it depends where your hands are placed. But personally I would prefer physical buttons overall. But I love the design 👌🏼
Lovely review, thanks and just subscribed. Be great if you could get hold of the E450d for a test. Not seen that done anywhere yet, but it could be the perfect E class. A smooth V6, all that torque and 40+ mpg. Hybrids are fine, in fact I have a 2018 E350E and I've done 80k happy miles in it, but it's heavy and I can feel that weight in every corner and the air suspension is compromised because of that.
Ah brilliant thank you! 🙏 Yes I’m sure that engine is beautiful! I’ve driven ones similar before and they are so quiet but boy do they have power when you need it! Oh wow that’s cool, love a plug-in hybrid, they do add a bit of weight yes. Hopefully newer ones are a little lighter!
Another cracking review Nick! Looking at the new E-Class Estate side view - Is it my imagination or have M-B slightly borrowed the more "swoopy" rear window profile from their beautiful (but now discontinued) CLS Shooting Brake?
Yeah possibly! 🤓 shame the CLS Shooting Brake stopped, I liked that one. It was more like a “stylish” estate for people who don’t like the boxy look. Glad you enjoyed the video! 😎
Nice review! I have the 2023 "All Terrain" version (we can't get the "normal" wagon here in the States, just the AT or the AMG). I'm disappointed in the climate controls - still all physical switches in the '23. And we still have the rear-facing folding seats, which are great for belting in the dogs! It's also good for hiding the dog hair, as most of it is hidden when you close back up the seats. I do like some of the upgrades to the tech, and the vents being still manual is a huge plus - motorized-only vents just seem pretty silly to me, and also dangerous while driving. Since these do both that's fine - no need to fuss with menus or worry about the motors dying later on.
Thank you! Yeah there’s certainly a load of tech! I’m not sure there are many models out there now that have rear facing seats across all manufacturers (here in the UK anyway)
As long as you have Augmented Reality then you’ll be able to toggle that on in settings on the navigation menu. Augmented reality is the one where it shows a live camera feed when navigating around.
Hey Nick, sorry quick one but not about this video. Last month I updated MBUX 2.4 the latest version on my W206 C220d here in Spain. Since I’ve been getting blank screens and things not working like parking sensors and cameras, re boot needed twice now. Have you heard anything about this issue? Thanx Lee
Hey Lee, no sadly I've not experienced anything like that on my own car, and although I try to reply to everyone on my channel, I certainly haven't read any comments indicating the same thing. Might be worth reaching out to a dealer if you've got some issues or something. You could try a multimedia system reset which may help clear whatever the issue is though, just bear in mind you'll need to re-pair your phone and add any sat nav destinations / settings back in again. To reset, it's HOME, SETTINGS, SYSTEM & RESET. Then Yes & Yes. One thing to note, this does not affect your Mercedes me account from what I've seen
I took delivery of an E300e - the PHEV version. The length of the estate boot is no different to the non PHEV - just a bit less depth but good for golf and sailing stuff! However no underneath hidden space for the cables and First Aid/ tyre kit! 😲
Yeah I’ve heard it’s flat for the new plug-in hybrids. Awesome! Sadly hybrids are always like that as that’s where the battery goes usually in the boot so no underfloor storage. I get it though, a place for the cable would be good 👍🏼
Hi Nick I have a 2021 E class with the twin AMG spoke steering wheel like your car . There is two ways of checking the oil level. First way shows you low middle high but the other way through the service settings will show you very accurately but I can only find a video on the previous steering wheel how to do this . Can you advise maybe a video on this for helpfulness in your tips and tricks thinking 🤔. ? Any help would be much appreciated..
Ah very nice! 👌🏼 Funnily enough I’m at the British Motor Show this weekend helping my local dealer out with manning a stand and chatting with everyone (back to videos on TH-cam though on Monday 😂) I asked them that here and they sadly wouldn’t tell me. It’s only for technicians and Mercedes staff. I’m sure someone will figure it out though somewhen and make a video. I think the reason is because you can actually mark that the car has been serviced which is irreversible. In the wrong hands it can mess it up!
@@npoleary Hi Nick thank you for replying I really appreciate it 👍 When I get my car serviced at the main dealership they keep under filling the oil . I have asked why is it not at the max level ? . They said they like to under fill them as if they go slightly over it a pain to drain them down. So this is why I am asking why can’t they go into the service settings and check the oil level and get it correct. So I was hoping to find out how to check it on the twin spoke steering wheel and next time as I am not happy with them leaving the oil half way minimum and Maximum. . And be able to check it myself next time before I leave, if they are under filling every car this can not be good and second how much oil are they saving over the year. Other customers may not notice this but I do . Love the videos keep the great content coming 👍
Ah thank you! Oil is a bit different to fuel though. Best place for oil is anywhere in between min and max. That’s what is aimed for. It doesn’t need to be near max. www.motoringassist.com/news/why-max-is-not-always-right
Is the infotainment working properly? For already 7 months since purchase of e class sedan, I have faulty infotainment which is switching off and on during the driving. Huge disappointment. And MB is trying to fix it but without success so far.
For the week that I had it, I had no problems whatsoever. If I had, I would have mentioned them in the video. Their newest one is very responsive and full of features that I’ve not seen on other Mercedes before. Only thing I can suggest is chat to Mercedes staff and their technicians so they can get to the bottom of it.
Yeah sure! On certain specifications, you can have an air freshener / diffuser built into the system. Vials are replaced in the glovebox. There is also an ionisation button to purify the air into the cabin.
I love my new E300e estate - the tech takes a bit longer to adjust to than my previous E220d but once you master it it’s just there as you want/ need. The driving assist package is brilliant - almost hands free but really keeps you safe and relaxed. It’s comfortable, quiet, efficient (I’ve covered 500miles almost all electric and not used a ¼ tank!) and fun! I use the built in dash cam with memory stick - very clear images. P.S. I don’t work for Mercedes!
Yes the driving assistance features on Mercedes latest vehicles are brilliant, perfect for those long drives! I’d love to try out some more plug-in hybrids, some of their new ones have very good range!
The E is a great car of course. I'm yet to come to terms with the black plastic grille surround. When i first saw it in the showrooms i thought the grille looked awful. It's a 'me' problem & I'm sure I'll get used to it the more i see on the road 🤷🏼♀️
Great review as always. There's much to like about this car, and good to see that the basics are little different to my S212. However, I do have an issue with tech for tech's sake - for example, why would you need a reminder to open the boot if you need to open the boot?! And (imo) those rear lights are a bit tacky - more Chevrolet-esque than Mercedes.
Thank you! 🙏 Those recommendations or suggestions can be toggled off via a quick screen change (there’s a different layout). I think it’s more for quick access stuff rather than reminders though.
Maaaannnnnnnn.... If the car has the option to cancel the touchpads in the rear seats (as my 2 years daughter will press them) I will 100% change my current GLC. What a car !!!
I do love the look of the e class, I am looking at possibly getting the previous model (2020/2021 ish ) e200h, but I'm torn between that & an audi a6 avant s line
Yeah me too! Sadly not covered Audi on my channel yet, maybe in the future but I’ve heard good things. You’ll have to try both and see how you get on 😎
All this tec. Looks brilliant and great novelty value BUT, once you have made the driver settings you might hardly touch most of it, AND all the tec is so dangerous to use whilst driving, taking your eyes off the road. I am about to swap my CLA for an Audi A3 with much more physical button for things like heating controls. I am convinced these will end up being laws on what controls make you take your eyes off the road, very much like mobile phone use. Very good review Nick, but over complex tec for me
Very true, same for my A-Class. I very rarely change settings (apart from ambient lighting, I always swap between blue and blue and red 😂 I can never make my mind up) Touchscreen tech does just needs to used sensibly, I completely get that and always with full attention on the road. Glad you enjoyed it!
Just googled it but couldn’t find anything. They look like normal vents 😅 I must have been searching for the wrong thing, my knowledge on Lexus’s is very minimal 😂
When the previous E-Class came out years ago, there was no mention of the All-Terrain. But it came out shortly after. So the same “could” happen again, we’ll have to wait and see!
Fair enough, I hadn’t heard of that one but I know that engines do vary round the world. I think I drove something similar on a GLE or GLS once in the states when I was on holiday 🤓
They’ve removed that on the new one now, it used to have that. However the new one allows you to change the pattern but sadly no Union Jack this time round: th-cam.com/video/YLlh_MBBOSQ/w-d-xo.htmlsi=S86I_tID4L6XeYzw
Not covered the Volvo Estates yet but I would like to! 🙏 Also this is a brand new model? It’s only just started to appear in their showrooms…have you already been in one?
you don’t really need so many screns lnthe car because you better use anything apart from heating system and the Soundsystem legroom on the back is rubbish. Volvo V 90 has back seats.
Just ordered an E300de T Model with exactly this interior, but exterior graphite grey, my last car C250d T model black with brown interior. Black interior looks too dark, grey looks too plain, white would get dirty just my opinion, but each to his own.
I've just had a few weeks with a 220D saloon. My partner who's been driving for just a year loved it. I've got over 500,000 miles experience and didn't. We are back to when you can't see parts of instruments through the steering wheel. The driver screen looks cheap. The steering wheel controls are horrid - almost impossible to get right without looking away from the road. The Hey Mercedes system is very capable, but if it can't find give the answer say to a destination it doesn't know, then you have a far more difficult task to operate the system through the touch screen. Overall the driver interface sucks - but at night it looks wow! The interior door handles are too large, hard and cheap - again, what happened to the perfected hockey stick design? This one had the fake leather interior - the smell of plastic is quite unpleasant. As you've mentioned in another video, the intrusive driver aids are a mixed blessing. Apart from being irritating, they can either give up or interfere at the most demanding times, like evasively crossing a road line while the car is vibrating the steering. On the plus side, the fuel economy is amazing and the mild hybrid motor integrated into the gearbox makes stop-start super smooth and quiet. I'm sure that one in Premium Plus spec would be far more appealing. I think we have passed 'peak car'.
Thanks for sharing! It’s a tricky time for car manufacturers, they’re of course trying the latest tech which you can see in this but then also trying to be sustainable to do so for example with the leather etc. and with EV’s on the horizon, they have even more pressure to adapt. Thanks for sharing your experience though! Do you think one of these or maybe something else then? 🤓
@@npoleary You're right. We shouldn't ignore the impact of sustainability and safety on the aesthetic feel of a car. There is also business sense. If you can shift 60,000k cars because they light up like a disco, talk to you and make driving much easier, you would. And they are. But its hard to interpret all logic. The 'driver's' brands - Porsche and Alfa Romeo still put their speed control on a stalk where it can be most easily used. BMW and Mercedes have moved it to the steering wheel where it can't. Is that a significant and worthwhile cost saving? Maybe, if most drivers don't care. Mercedes have reverted to traditional door stays on the new models - I wonder if that is because they give a more solid feel. Incidentally, I love my 2015 W205 250 PP AMG-Line.
@npoleary I didn't know it had it until it went wrong. It was an E250 AMG premium plus estate. I only sold it in June. I miss it, and it's size.113000 miles with full MB history. I have a 2023 CLA 220d shooting brake. 70 to the gallon is amazing.
The boot space in my W213 is now taken up by a spare wheel as i can't wait three hours for the RAC. And it won't fit under the floor anymore. And the engine has had to be repaired because of a known common fault because of poor design.... My W212 however is still going strong with 400k on it and very few engine issues.
head rest looks ugly and cheap. The screen only design means the bezels around the screens are full of piano black, which is uncomfortable when the sun hits. Other than that, it's very difficult to fault the design of this car, both exterior and interior. Very nice review!
Just gives people a choice 🤓 The only thing with SUV’s is that usually due to their shape, running costs are slightly higher especially if they have 4-wheel drive systems like Mercedes-Benz’s 4MATIC. It’s not always the case though, but typically because they’re not as aerodynamic you can see a slight increase. But I do appreciate how practical they are!
Love this car, what do you guys think? I'll reply to all of you below! 👊🏼

All of it Nick, but that cockpit, it’s just something else isn’t it. Definitely on my list for next time.
Probably my next car. 👌
I defo wouldn’t say no! 🤓 would be perfect for the dog in the back and all that tech up front for me 👍🏼
I took delivery of an E300e - the PHEV version.
Funnily enough I’m at the British Motor Show this weekend helping my local dealer out with manning a stand and chatting with everyone (back to videos on TH-cam though on Monday 😂)
I asked them that here and they sadly wouldn’t tell me. It’s only for technicians and Mercedes staff. I’m sure someone will figure it out though somewhen and make a video.
I think the reason is because you can actually mark that the car has been serviced which is irreversible. In the wrong hands it can mess it up!
@@npoleary
Hi Nick thank you for replying I really appreciate it 👍
When I get my car serviced at the main dealership they keep under filling the oil .

Glad you love the videos! Working on the next one as we speak! 😎
Great review, Nick. Estates are not for me, but a fantastic car, none-the-less.
Thank you! 🙏
What’s your go to car? Hatchbacks? SUV’s, convertibles? 👀
When my ship comes in, I'm looking at the AMG GT 63 S Pro (red), and as a second car the AMG GLC 63 S Coupe (white). Not long now!
Oooo nice! 👌🏼
Awesome collection!

@@npolearyThanks Nick for the answer.
No worries! Hope you get it sorted!
Anyone knows what's the "Air Quality" tab in the climate controls screen?
Nice car maybe your next car!
I defo wouldn’t say no! 🤓
Nick…. Nice 🚗
Haha thanks! 🙏 yeah I’d love one! So much tech and space too 🤓
The E is a great car of course. I'm yet to come to terms with the black plastic grille surround. When i first saw it in the showrooms i thought the grille looked awful. It's a 'me' problem & I'm sure I'll get used to it the more i see on the road 🤷🏼♀️
Thanks for watching! 🙏
Thank you! 🙏
Those recommendations or suggestions can be toggled off via a quick screen change (there’s a different layout). I think it’s more for quick access stuff rather than reminders though.
1:58 🤔Mini Cooper. The only one i know that has its logo on the rear lights
Ah yes but that was the Union Jack 🇬🇧
Not Mini logos (as far as I know)
But yeah good point!
@@npoleary ✨👍🏽yah yah
Maaaannnnnnnn.... If the car has the option to cancel the touchpads in the rear seats (as my 2 years daughter will press them) I will 100% change my current GLC. What a car !!!
Oh for the climate control? 🤓
Yeah locking it would be a good idea! 👍🏼
Sorry, absolutely love the saddle seats.
Cool 😎
What colour would you have on the outside? Same as shown?
Are there voice commands?
Yes absolutely! “Hey Mercedes” and it can do all sorts of things: th-cam.com/video/MApm3Nr6qd4/w-d-xo.html
@@npoleary Makes life so much easier.
Especially this one
I do love the look of the e class, I am looking at possibly getting the previous model (2020/2021 ish ) e200h, but I'm torn between that & an audi a6 avant s line
Yeah me too! Sadly not covered Audi on my channel yet, maybe in the future but I’ve heard good things.
You’ll have to try both and see how you get on 😎
@@npoleary theres a video opportunity for you there, a comparison, e class estate vs a6 avant
Absolutely!
Awesome. I’m guessing if the A Class had this much tech, they would sell much fewer E class cars.
True…okay then if I had to pick one then it would be Digital Key with Apple Wallet 🤓
Save the rest for the E-Class 👊🏼
All this tec. Looks brilliant and great novelty value BUT, once you have made the driver settings you might hardly touch most of it, AND all the tec is so dangerous to use whilst driving, taking your eyes off the road. I am about to swap my CLA for an Audi A3 with much more physical button for things like heating controls. I am convinced these will end up being laws on what controls make you take your eyes off the road, very much like mobile phone use. Very good review Nick, but over complex tec for me
Very true, same for my A-Class. I very rarely change settings (apart from ambient lighting, I always swap between blue and blue and red 😂 I can never make my mind up)
Touchscreen tech does just needs to used sensibly, I completely get that and always with full attention on the road.
Glad you enjoyed it!
I'm sure the Lexus LS430 had a version of 'digital vent control' back in 2000
Just googled it but couldn’t find anything. They look like normal vents 😅 I must have been searching for the wrong thing, my knowledge on Lexus’s is very minimal 😂
@@npoleary th-cam.com/video/MoWnB6JOW4I/w-d-xo.htmlsi=s55RuY6oxVHpDyAu
Where's the E450 All-Terrain!
When the previous E-Class came out years ago, there was no mention of the All-Terrain. But it came out shortly after. So the same “could” happen again, we’ll have to wait and see!
I may be old fashioned but I don't need all the glitz. I'm happy with my 2019 450E class wagon.
That’s good 😎 I’m sure it’ll keep going and going! Which engine do you have? 🤓
@@npoleary Um, I don't know! Gas for sure. 🤪
Fair enough, I hadn’t heard of that one but I know that engines do vary round the world. I think I drove something similar on a GLE or GLS once in the states when I was on holiday 🤓
Not exactly the logo but Mini has Union Jack in its rear lights. I took me like half my life to realise what's that pattern but it's there 😅
They’ve removed that on the new one now, it used to have that. However the new one allows you to change the pattern but sadly no Union Jack this time round: th-cam.com/video/YLlh_MBBOSQ/w-d-xo.htmlsi=S86I_tID4L6XeYzw
I would still go for Volvo V90 better build quality
Not covered the Volvo Estates yet but I would like to! 🙏
Also this is a brand new model? It’s only just started to appear in their showrooms…have you already been in one?
you don’t really need so many screns lnthe car because you better use anything apart from heating system and the Soundsystem legroom on the back is rubbish. Volvo V 90 has back seats.
Just ordered an E300de T Model with exactly this interior, but exterior graphite grey, my last car C250d T model black with brown interior. Black interior looks too dark, grey looks too plain, white would get dirty just my opinion, but each to his own.
Ah very nice! I’m sure you’ll love it! 👌🏼
I had a 2015 e Class. It had air suspension as I found out to my cost. £762 for one side. Beautiful car though all the same.
Ah sounds very nice! I’ve not driven that particular one but I’m sure with air suspension it rides beautifully!
Thank you for watching! Glad you enjoyed it! 🤓
Well they can’t really improve much to the car itself so they repackage and add tech.
Well the ride quality is better than before, it’s almost touching S-Class levels now. Not quite, but it’s almost there
Seems unnecessary in a world full of SUV's and crossovers.
Just gives people a choice 🤓
The only thing with SUV’s is that usually due to their shape, running costs are slightly higher especially if they have 4-wheel drive systems like Mercedes-Benz’s 4MATIC.
It’s not always the case though, but typically because they’re not as aerodynamic you can see a slight increase. But I do appreciate how practical they are!
The performance is great but Looks like a undertaker car , bad Mercedes design, sorry
What sort of Estate do you like the look of? 🤓
@@npoleary more of a sporty look
So maybe if this one had an AMG engine and AMG styling or another car brand like Audi or BWM or something? 🚗 💨
