For the most part we usually took a stance of indifference towards Indonesia. But after the bailbo 5 incident, it was becoming really awkward to ignore. We only really choose to put peacekeepers after being pressured by the us. There is still a lot of debate about our involvement/lack of involvement. It doesn't help that we basically stole all east Timors natural resources after all of it . Don't know too much about west Papua, it's not really talked about/covered here very much. Which means majority always win. No matter if you are actually right, if the majority thinks you’re wrong, then you are wrong. If among 10 people, 3 believe earth is round while 7 believe earth is flat, then earth is flat is the truth. And around 85% of Indonesian are muslim. So yes, this makes Indonesian not as free as what ideal democracy should be, but no, that does not mean Indonesia are not free at all.

When bapak being asked about Indonesian proposal to end the war in Ukraine, he only gave a vague answer but if you read between the lines, i think President Jokowi would be using global food crisis issue to persuade Russia and also Ukraine to at least deescalate the conflict. To be fair we were always between rock and hard place. For the most part we usually took a stance of indifference towards Indonesia. But after the bailbo 5 incident, it was becoming really awkward to ignore. We only really choose to put peacekeepers after being pressured by the us. There is still a lot of debate about our involvement/lack of involvement. It doesn't help that we basically stole all east Timors natural resources after all of it .
Don't know too much about west Papua, it's not really talked about/covered here very much. A lot of Australians have pretty positive views on Indonesia/Indonesians mainly because of Bali.

They only report on our internal issues such as supporting the west Papuans to separate themselves from Indonesia which is ridiculous. They keep on supporting them based on false reports about human rights issues. I remember when I was involved in an online argument with some Aussie, I told her to stop lecturing our country on human rights because Australians should realise that they are not clean enough to do so because of what they did to the indigenous people of Australia.

Indonesian do get freedom and democracy but what leads to government leaning to religious authoritarian is because of the rule of law in democracy - from people, for the people. Which means majority always win. No matter if you are actually right, if the majority thinks you’re wrong, then you are wrong. If among 10 people, 3 believe earth is round while 7 believe earth is flat, then earth is flat is the truth. And around 85% of Indonesian are muslim. So yes, this makes Indonesian not as free as what ideal democracy should be, but no, that does not mean Indonesia are not free at all.

When bapak being asked about Indonesian proposal to end the war in Ukraine, he only gave a vague answer but if you read between the lines, i think President Jokowi would be using global food crisis issue to persuade Russia and also Ukraine to at least deescalate the conflict. It won't be some sort of a proposal in a legal-formal framework but rather an informal persuasion, like heart to heart kind of way. I must say, he might using the ASEAN Way to talk to both of them hahaha.

Indonesia's Widodo leadership in the last 7 years to developing the country has become a tremendously groundbreaking effect and creating consequential transformation of mindset, especially to Indonesian officials in the local region on how they treat development for they need.
In the past, most of Widodo's predecessors saw infrastructure development as a burdening obligation (despite being written in the constitution and its benefit for the regional economy as a value creator), even though there already many alternative ways of funding, aside from using from nations annual budget, borrowing or lending from global foreign financiers either multilateral such as IMF-WB etc or Bilaterally from Singapore, Japan, China etc, due to half-heartedly effort of previous administration to make development of infrastructure inclusively accessible for everyone, and addresses the need of economic demand, causes many delayed infrastructure projects which most of them located in regions that are heavily needed by its mobility size and its economic volume and in densely populated area.
Many projects failed before they started, even worse, such as Hambalang sport centre in Bogor and undisclosed number of Coal fired powerplant under 10K MW Fast Track Project which stalled due to unsynchronized coordinations both central government and local, plagued by some bad governance played by unscrupulous officials, who exerted their "autonomous right" in a worse way, for their electoral benefits, instead making a real and tangibles for their people progress in daily life.
Meanwhile, there also almost failed project like the Cisumdawu toll road and the West Java International Airport which were laid out by the previous governor of West Java in order to show "the best of its legacy of his leadership", ironically the previous governor laid out the airport development first in a middle of nowhere which the connectivity by road barely accessible, meanwhile the toll road development hurdle by years of endless land dispute due to minimal information provided by provincial government which led to illegally land grab by some officials in certain regions, which in the end, central government intervene in the project and straightening out the problem.
Moving on from the tip of the iceberg of the many reason of delayed even stalled infrastructure development project, the current government strategically and deliberately review and adding long list of new project in many area of Indonesia which administered and controlled by Komite Percepatan Pembangunan Infrastruktur Pemerintah (Government Committee for infrastructure developments acceleration) which yearly reviewed and updated every single current progress, hurdles that experience by the project and expected finish as the project progressing and completed.
With that single and unified approach above, this list creating certainty, either regulatory and financially for local government leaders that the central government is welcome to accommodate and encourage them to proposing potential infrastructure to be developed in their respective regions across Indonesia, also making sure there's no infrastructure is stalled or failed in the processes under the administration watch, I think this is why Indonesia experiencing infrastructure boom under President Widodo leadership.
Not only infrastructure, lately Indonesia also pursue some strategic measures to transforming Indonesia into high-technology and high-skilled nations by courting some globally well-known and prominently-influential company to invest in Indonesia, company such as Air Product, Ford Motors, Hyundai, LG Chemical, SpaceX, Tesla are few of many company that currently view Indonesia as a major industrial hub for their respective product.
Air Product recently closing its investment deal for US$ 14 B for 20 years to transform coal to Dimetil Ether as a replacement of LPG which Indonesia yearly importing almost US$5-6 Billions, partnering with Bukit Asam, then LG Chemical, one of the largest EV battery manufacturer also committed to produce 200 Million GW yearly or 3.5 Million unit of battery in Batang Industrial Zone, Central Java for EV with investment value at US$ 9.8 B, followed by Hyundai to build manufacturing plant for EV in Cikarang International Industrial Complex with value up to US$ 1.5 B to manufacture up to 150.000 car yearly and additional increase yearly up to 250.000 include EV, even Tesla and SpaceX entering final negotiation on both investment in Indonesia with undisclosed number of investment, but due to Tesla is seeking potential country to host its gigafactory and its in line with Indonesia's ambition to be one of the world most leading EV technology, and even hinted by Coordinating Minister of Maritime and Investment also Minister of Investment, that Tesla is seeking to build manufacturing plant in Indonesia, the last Ford even follow Tesla to entering Indonesia by introducing its EV product.
Recently, Foxconn, one of the world's leading semiconductor manufacturing even meeting with Indonesia's President before departure to Germany to address their commitment to invest up to US$ 8 Billion in EV manufacturing and also Newly laid out, IKN Nusantara.
