Here is a possible explanation to why Buzz freezes in the first toystory film. Since he truly believes he is a space ranger to him Andy is a giant alien of unknown strength. Buzz sees all the other 'life forms' (toys) freeze and play dead when Andy arrives. Buzz can probably guess that the 'lifeforms' (toys) have seen Andy before and know how to handle him so Buzz copies what they do.
That logic kinda falls apart when you realize Buzz was frozen in Andy's presence even before meeting the other toys. Since Andy played with him as soon as he removed him from his packaging. The only logic I can think of to explain this would be that toys don't gain sentience until they meet another sentient toy (given the scene in the second movie with the second Buzz, didn't come to life until Buzz interacted with him).

Rex: What do you mean the party's today?! His birthday's not till next.... Woody: Well, obviously, she wanted to have the party before the move. "Jeremy conveniently leaving out scenes" cliche.
The "party date" sin is even more egregious. Pretty sure it is stated outright in the film that Andy's party is early because of the move. Not even sure if he's actually 8 by the end of the film
You’re about about everything except Andy not being 8 by the end of the film. The film ends at Christmas so unless Christmas falls a few days after the move, I’m sure Andy did turn 8 by the end of the film.
4:42 A SuperCarlinBrothers video addresses this plot hole by suggesting that it's just instinct for a toy to drop dead in the presence of humans. Even if you don't know you're a toy, that instinct will still kick in, and when he saw the other toys do the exact same thing, he just decided to roll with it, I guess. WEED
I haven't seen that video but I independently came up with the same idea. That even if Buzz doesn't believe he's a toy, all toys have a deep powerful subconscious instinct to play dead in the presence of a human. Sure they can intentionally break it if they want to, but as soon as they see a human their instinct is just like BE A TOY.
4:34 I’ve heard this point many times and it is a valid point. But I think I have an explanation: Later in the film Buzz refers to Andy as the toys’ “chief” so he must have acquired an understanding from the other toys, that he needs to do what Andy wants or expects from him, in other words staying still when he’s around. Also he thinks he’s on an alien planet that probably have their own customs and ways of doing things. He might have thought the best way to blend in with the other toys, is to do whatever they are doing, including staying still when their leader is around. Just a theory of course, there is nothing in the film to confirm this. Plus it doesn’t explain why he also remains still around Sid, but hey it’s better than nothing.
That would've been good, except that he was doing it when his box was opened and he was placed down. So my theory is that all toys have a subconscious tick where if a human is in their presence, they immediately go to toy form. Kind of like the Fight or Flight response. But then again, the toys in Sid's room move right in front of him. So either A. They were actively fighting against their instinct. Or B. They can simply do it on command and chose not to do it, thereby "Breaking the rules" as Woody said when planning Buzz's rescue.
6:50 also, if you look closely in Buzz's helmet reflection after the commercial ends you see it's clearly a bowling match. Something like that would likely have general audiences in mind so an ad for a kid's toy wouldn't be too unusual.
Thank you for this. I feel like people don’t point out the flaws in CinemaSins’ criticisms enough. I’ve noticed that he asks a lot of stupid questions and often comes to illogical conclusions
It’s the “I don’t understand this, therefore it doesn’t make sense” fallacy. People who overestimate their intelligence are less willing to accept that they don’t understand everything. If it doesn’t make perfect sense to them the first time they see it, it’s not that they need to do some research or learn more about the subject, the movie is just dumb and wrong.
6:12 The REAL sin here is the film implying that anyone can win at claw machines. Seriously, those things are rigged as fuck. EDIT: On another note, in regards to the part about lighting the fuse with Buzz's helmet and how Sid burned Woody with a magnifying glass earlier... that's not a "justification." You could either refer Sid's actions as "foreshadowing" (and the later moment a fulfillment of that), or you can call the later moment a "callback." The presence of the earlier moment is to help make Woody's actions in the final act feel familiar, so that viewers understand what's going on and realize what Woody's doing so that it doesn't seem like it's coming out of nowhere.
Not to mention that if Sid hadn't gotten ahold of Buzz and Woody, there wouldn't have been a rocket taped to Buzz's back at all, meaning Woody wouldn't need to have found out how to light it. The real sin is that the Buzz Lightyear toy's helmet is the right curvature and thickness to burn things in direct sunlight. That is a major safety hazard and should definitely result in a recall.

3:53 Fun fact: All of the kids attending Andy's party all share Andy's exact body and facial model, just with skin color changes, hair color changes, and some accessories. This was due to the insane difficulty at the time of making 3D human models, and said models would only be used for a few seconds anyways so they just recycled what they had. I'm pretty sure this also applies to Andy's mom and any faces of human women shown in the background.
8:07 the real sin there is how the dog was pulling woody while running with the truck and somehow never lost his footing/ wasn’t being dragged by the speeding truck
Pete Doctor recently confirmed in an interview that he and the other writers for Toy Story were aware of the Buzz Lightyear plot hole and spent a lot of time trying to justify it. In the end they decided “Eh, it doesn’t really matter for our story anyway” and decided to just go ahead without an explanation figuring audiences wouldn’t notice or care...
So real talk: Toy Story 3 has a really great opening scene, not just because of the scene itself, but also when you compare it to Toy Story 1's opening scene, but now with additions (like Buzz and Jessie) to the story, and just like you said Birdman, the Forcefield dog vs T-Rex is the one I end up remembering and comparing to a LOT.

Nobody's gonna discuss the fact that Andy (the 8yo boy child) is safely strapped in the backseat with his toy box, while his sister (who is maybe all of 2-3yo), is strapped in her front facing car seat in the front seat next to their mom! Nobody?!
Gotta admit, one of my favorite things about your videos is when you spot Jeremy (or his writers) being a smartass and then reveal that if he was a bit smarter, he'd realize that his "sin" makes no sense. Example, when you were talking about what factors could control how fast something could "run". Well done.
Wanna point something out I just thought of. At 7:29, talking about how the toys seem to be able to move fast enough to catch up with the truck, it kinda also helps us see how they're not worried about being caught. If the toys can move fast enough to catch up to a moving truck (which in the city probably driving at no less than 25 mph, likely more), then they are definitely fast enough to get back into their positions whenever they hear someone coming.

I love how you give 10 sins for him spying on his neighbors, but then in other videos, you just give him *50* sins from the get-go just for sinning that movie
8:54 If there was any sin that should have been added here, it's that Andy's mom has Molly in the passenger's seat, which is super dangerous for babies and extremely ill-advised.
2:26 well, it's not necessarily that Woody forgot. Later, during the staff meeting, he says the party was *moved* to that day, so he just didn't get the update until the last second
My theory about Buzz freezing when in toy mode is instinct. Without thinking, he is acting on toy-instinct to freeze and assume position regardless of what indoctrinated him to believe he was a Real Life Space Ranger.
At 3:00, the real sin is that Mr. Potatohead somehow arranged his facial parts in a way that should be impossible since there are no holes for him to stick them into in those spots.
complains that match stayed in holster. ignores the fact that the match somehow starts coming out of the holster before woody's hand is anywhere near it
In regards to how Buzz somehow knows to act like a Toy when Andy’s around, I always assumed it’s because Buzz thought it was a “cultural thing that these aliens do on this planet.” I mean, the next scene begins with Buzz saying he’s been accepted into their culture.
0:57 I completely agree with you here. Most children learn to sound out the words when they are younger and spell them exactly as one would say them. So, expecting what I assume is either a first or second grade kiddo to spell words with 100% accuracy is ridiculous and impractical. (Especially when there are adults who cannot spell too.) Also, combination sounds are commonly taught in the second grade (where I'm from), so spelling "school" as "skool" is to be expected especially if Andy is in the first grade. As I said, they spell what they hear.
0:40 The logos used in this video were was obviously from a recently released DVD version of Toy Story. They weren't the logos used for the movie's original release from 1995. So it was definitely less than 47 seconds.
Awesome video as always man. I chuckled with laughter several times. Keep up with the savage jokes as birdman & yes I will be singing at the lion king life action too...lol
About the Buzz freezing up thing I came up with a theory that Buzz did it initially because he thought there may be some form of danger and it was a defense. After Andy left one of the toys explained it to him at some point before he came back. Also if your gonna say “But he doesn’t think he’s a toy.” The others could’ve explained it like “Andy thinks your a toy so you’ll need to freeze or you’ll blow our cover.” or something.
1:58 Also, When I was a kid, I had a stuffed dalmation puppy with a santa hat that I cherished like a diamond, and this was in the late 2000s with unrestricted access to adobe flash games
@@GanonGhidorah Actually, that wouldnt really work being that Cars needed to exist in order for Dinoco to have any relevance when it was in Toy Story. Yes, I will be that guy
Has Jeremy never had an experience where you were looking for something and looking for something and then suddenly find it in a place you've already looked?
I'm fairly sure Cinemasins has slowed their audio down to pad the time for this video too, Jeremy doesn't usually sound that sleepy. That's how it sounds to me though, especially around the car chase scene. I'm not going to dig into audio files to test this theory though.
9:04 Look closely... VERY closely: The match jumped out of Woody's holster before he even grabbed it! Also, at 3:53, all the boys who show up at Andy's house for his birthday party are just duplicates of him. Look at their faces! Ah... these are just examples of what computer-animated movies weren't capable of back then... But look at how far they've come! They were amazing back then, and they've become absolute masterpieces now! THANK YOU PIXAR!
The thing that always confused me as a child about Toy Story (but is not necessarily a sin) is why Andy and Molly had to share a room. As an adult, I now get that that’s probably part of why they were moving, and in TS2 she has her own room. But I still don’t get why the baby’s crib wasn’t in the mum’s room. Every time she woke up crying, was her 8 year old brother supposed to wake up and deal with it? Harsh.
In defense of that, my family did a similar thing with my youngest brother's crib being in the same room as the second youngest. But it was an issue of room, nonetheless. We had a fairly small-ish house. I'm just assuming something similar is going on.

This video got the most laughs from of me out of all your other videos that i have watched!
Sin 7: Douglas Adams states that mice are the intellectually superior species and have been running test on us the whole time.
*Ryan makes a pop-culture ref---skip.*
4:44. Had the same reaction. Childhood never the same 🤣🤣🤦🏿♂️🤦🏿♂️
Unless, you asked yourself that same question when you were younger than th3birdman.
It was me. 😁
I believe in the theory that it's a fight or flight type thing, freeze, humans also have that.
@@TheTrueSpottedStripebut he thinks he's the actual buzz lightyear if anything he'd try to fight the giant human
Birdman how dare you not eat anything when saying "You paddin the sin count bro".
At 3:00, the real sin is that Mr. Potatohead somehow arranged his facial parts in a way that should be impossible since there are no holes for him to stick them into in those spots.
8:13 is the most accurate joke in this whole video. 😂😂
complains that match stayed in holster. ignores the fact that the match somehow starts coming out of the holster before woody's hand is anywhere near it
Lol i thought i was the only one who noticed that
1:17 I thought it would be “What’s wrong with children’s imaginations?”
1:10 as a kid my brother and I would totally say stuff like this 🤣
Also, 1:19 SAME🤣🤣🤣
Uhh actually you missed a sin. RC CAN move on his own. HOWEVER, when someone takes ahold of his remote, he loses control.
6:00
Jeremy makes a pop culture reference that isn't a sin of the movie cliche.
I think this is supposed to be FNAF.
This cinemasins always wigged me out more than they normally do, definitely appreciate this
this video is two years old yet here I am binging the series ahah awesome work /g
8:54 counting this as a sin because you are supporting the live-action remake
He likes the song so much that he's willing to put up with the live-action remake.
DAT'S DA JOKE!
you brought back my childhood with that opening, thankyou
Aye I resent the correlation of Jeremy’s stupidity and weed. He off something else
Wine
3:40 And they could just hear Andy walking to his room.
“I love CinemaSins.” This irks me every time I read it. No one should love CinemaSins.
I kind of liked them for a bit but then I grew a brain. Yes I grew a brain.
@@shadowrev2914 same, and I learned about real comedy and criticism
0:40 The logos used in this video were was obviously from a recently released DVD version of Toy Story. They weren't the logos used for the movie's original release from 1995. So it was definitely less than 47 seconds.
This movie is sacred and must be protected at all costs......
*Good job young chap!*
9:04 I’m surprised it wasn’t sinned for the fact Woody has telekinesis.
Slow it down to 0.25
The force is strong with this one
HOLY--
YES! A Stephen A Smith cameo... just what this video needed XD!
Awesome video as always man. I chuckled with laughter several times. Keep up with the savage jokes as birdman & yes I will be singing at the lion king life action too...lol
3:59 If you pay attention closely, you'll notice Andy and all of his friends have the same face
Starting clip is just long enough to push this video over 10 minutes.
*eats a chip* You padding the timer bro?
Why whenever someone says that type of phase, they are eating a chip?
@@crazyfire9470 because that's what he's doing whenever he does the sin. Unless it's an apple, implying he's an asshole.
@@crazyfire9470 **eats chip** Why do you care?
You know it's pretty funny. You guys added stay off the weed
"Jeremy spies on his neighbours" *Didididididididididing*
😂😂😂😂😂
You got to do one for their “I, Robot” video. That’s easily their most flawed one.
Missed sin on Jeremy’s end: How did Buzz not get stopped by the loop-de-loop? His wings should’ve tripped him up.
1:58 Also, When I was a kid, I had a stuffed dalmation puppy with a santa hat that I cherished like a diamond, and this was in the late 2000s with unrestricted access to adobe flash games
I need to know where that clip was from starting at 1:46. Had me laughing for a good few minutes 😂
Kai H. Its the Mario odyssey video from terminal montage
@@jantobalendink Thanks just looked it up.
Kai H. Np dude
Honestly a better 'sin' at 9:05 would have been to point out the fact that the match shot out of the holster on its own accord.
I'M NOT CRYING! YOU'RE CRYING!
You don't sin the Pixar logo lamp, Pixar logo lamp sins you Jeremy!!!
Did anyone else notice that the gas station was Dinoco like the sponsor from Cars
The better question you should have been asking was, did anyone notice that the Dinoco Sponsor from Cars FIRST appeared in Toy Story?
@@GanonGhidorah Actually, that wouldnt really work being that Cars needed to exist in order for Dinoco to have any relevance when it was in Toy Story. Yes, I will be that guy
Has Jeremy never had an experience where you were looking for something and looking for something and then suddenly find it in a place you've already looked?
You know the video is old when Jeremy has yet to discover that his voice has more than one tone
And didn't fake laugh
Fvfvfvfvfv
Buzz is a space ranger who thinks he is on a mission so pretending to be a toy would be "part of the mission"
I'm fairly sure Cinemasins has slowed their audio down to pad the time for this video too, Jeremy doesn't usually sound that sleepy.
That's how it sounds to me though, especially around the car chase scene.
I'm not going to dig into audio files to test this theory though.
I had never heard of Stephen A Smith until this video. And the "Stay off the weeeeeeedddddd!" joke is funny
Stay off the weed-a.
*Stay off the damn weeeeeed-a*
*WEEEEEEEEEEED*
Savage comebacks/10
9:05 Jeremy could’ve also actually point something out and made a sin about how the match kinda just levitates into Woody’s hand.
What is that “Stay Off the Weed” Clips from???
I have to use that for someone of my friends
Do a TH-cam search under "Stephen A. Smith" and "Weed"
Woody forgetting the party is because of the party being done early because of the upcoming move as mentioned, you know, IN THE MOVIE?
The thing that always confused me as a child about Toy Story (but is not necessarily a sin) is why Andy and Molly had to share a room. As an adult, I now get that that’s probably part of why they were moving, and in TS2 she has her own room. But I still don’t get why the baby’s crib wasn’t in the mum’s room. Every time she woke up crying, was her 8 year old brother supposed to wake up and deal with it? Harsh.
That’s a good point with the last part involving Andy having to deal with Molly’s crying.
In defense of that, my family did a similar thing with my youngest brother's crib being in the same room as the second youngest. But it was an issue of room, nonetheless. We had a fairly small-ish house.
I'm just assuming something similar is going on.
10 sins for spying on neighbors....solid amount 😂
