    Ive just started using my new Singer Sewing Machine 4423. I had no idea the machine needed oil 😮. Thank god I found your Chanel 😊 - I threw my last machine out most likely because I never used oil.

    Question!! Does the upper part need oiling as well? I can clearly hear the piston complaining if I use the machine very slowly. At normal speed I wouldn’t hear it, but… 👀

    • @sewingwithstacy
      @sewingwithstacy  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes! You can and should also oil the needle bar. You have to remove the upper cover from the side. (Screw is near the thread cutter.) then add a few drops the the solid bar that runs vertically. It should help!

    Hi there and thanks for making this video.
    I dug a bit and found that there are two felt bushings up top, and two below in the drive linkage that need to also be maintained.
    Also there are multiple pivot points above the needle that need oil also. Pretty much everywhere moving parts touch.
    Just wanted to make sure that you don't wear out points of your machine not knowing that there was a way to preserve them.
    Thanks a bunch for making videos for all of us!!!
    My best,
    -Nigel

      Thanks to you Nigel, for this insightful and helpful comment. Removing the bottom plaastic areas (just about 8 screws) reveals the areas that are greased, need to be greased, and the two felt bushings that you refer to. Honestly, you should do a video of it and monetize it. Very helpful. Though my machine is NEW, I oiled it up properly and she's now 80% quieter to my surprise. One thing: there is a plastic cam/ gear combo on the right back top of the machine that works with the feed dogs. This looks like it needs maintenance. But that will require removing the whole top casing I think. Another day......

      Hey Bob, not sure what part you mean, but if it's the last thread guide before the thread goes into the needle, you might be able to add on a bit of floral wire wrapped around the remaining piece to complete the guide bar.

    What about the felt pads underneath the machine when you take the bottom off? There are also 2 places to oil at the top but you have to take the case off. The only person I’ve seen do this broke one of the clips. I was hoping you’d show us how to do that without snapping the clip.

    Great video. More than likely I need to oil my machine. Been about two years now since I purchased this machine. With sewing a lot of flannel it is sure to need oiling. Those screws where the bobbin housing is extremely tight and can't undo with key provided with machine. Any suggestions? Tx 4 in advance

    • @sewingwithstacy
      @sewingwithstacy  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You might be able to get the bobbin housing out without removing the arm. I have a few of these machines but can't seem to get any of them to let it loose without unscrewing the guide arm. If you still can't, I would just continue to gently try and get them worked loose so you can get in there.

    I've been told not to use a medal bobbin? What kind are you using ? I have the exact same machine!

    • @sewingwithstacy
      @sewingwithstacy  ปีที่แล้ว

      Most manufacturers will say not to because the bobbin housing is plastic and any metal burs or imperfections can/could damage the bobbin housing. I have found that if you just buy good metal bobbins, that shouldn't be the case. Also, if you start using metal, you should only use metal. You should not go back and fourth between plastic and metal.

    • @sewingwithstacy
      @sewingwithstacy  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The plastic that the machine is made of has a bit of a 'clip' if you will to it. So once it's unscrewed, it doesn't just come off, you do need a small amount of force to pull it off.

    • @sewingwithstacy
      @sewingwithstacy  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes you can oil the upper but not nearly as frequently as the lower as the lower builds up lint and sucks up more oil.

    • @sewingwithstacy

    • @sewingwithstacy

      Singer 4452. I only use metal. Once your bobbin housing becomes accustomed to the shape of your bobbins, you cannot switch. More on the great bobbin debate later.

    @SewingWithStacey Hi. So, I'm hoping I can get an opinion on something... I have a store bought weighted blanket with the the little glass beads inside. I'm wondering if you think it would be a bad idea to sew through it. Idk if it would damage my sewing machine if the needle came straight down on any of the little beads. It's pretty much brand new, and I hated the thought of throwing it away. I've been trying to find someone to take the thing, but nobody wants it. Probably about the 25th time moving the thing from one spot to another, I started thinking maybe I could make a few door sweep, draft blocker dealies out of it. But now I'm just sitting here staring at it, worried it might jam my machine. Idk... Just hoping I can get an opinion or two before I have at it. Thanks in advance

    • @sewingwithstacy
      @sewingwithstacy  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey, great question. So I make a lot of heated corn bags. What I usually have to do is make small compartments and pin back the corn to make sure I don’t hit any kernels with the needle. For your project, I would not advise putting that through the machine unless you can safely clear away all the glass beads in are for sure only sewing through fabric. If the needle comes down on one of those glass beads, it could shatter the needle or worse.
