He is being pull apart by choosing sides, but whatever he chooses is always going to be wrong. Which is why Wukong said “them being alive is the transgression itself”. He never really had a choice. In the end (during this story), you can see how defeated he is and didn’t dare to go against the Celestial Court for the sake of his family. Little did he know, he was supposed to be the “hardship” that our Destined One suppose to face. Since he didn’t consume the relics, the court basically manipulated his kid to do it. Which is exactly why his wife came back and said “No One is willing to help”. The court can’t just have Beef Steak hand over the relic to our Monkey, the Monkey need to earn it through hardship. The best choice he could had done in this game was consume the relic and be the boss for our Monkey. He can’t die anyway, perhaps his son won’t have to die from this. That said if he does that, the court will also have an excuse to punish him more. He is destined to be fucked in the ass until he dies, because him being alive is the transgression to the court. Additionally: keep in mind, Beef Steak himself can hold off Wukong + Bajie. He + his wife can EASILY subdue their Son. They kinda know the will of the court, which is why his wife went around and asking for help and let his son throw a temper tantrum. They hoped that beating their stupid son up is enough for the Monkey to get enough Merit. The court end up doing 2 bird 1 stone the situation. The hidden intent is that killing their Son took away the only evidence of elimination of the Rakshasi clan/race (listen carefully on the conversation during the birth of Red Head in the hidden mission). The surface level intent is for Monkey to get enough Merit for his Journey to become the new Victoria Buddha.

i think u are confused about the animation. what wukong did in the animation was just in his mind, basically from his perspective it appears as if wukong betrayed him and took his son away. his sorrow for the lost of his son and shackle from heaven made him find someone to blame. but it wasnt the case, that why at the very end, instead of him lay dying, it was wukong. he basically realized he was wrong, that why he never try to use wukong relic and was just holding onto it.

The DLC is already on the way, and [Game Science] made eleven chapters at the beginning, but five chapters that are not very complete have been axed because shareholders are urging the game to go public. It will probably be made with a better story and more chapters in the DLC at a later date.
In the end Wukong's immortality was just too powerful. To the point that no one could kill him... save for himself. After witnessing the tragedies and failures in ones long life, his many missteps and mistakes, knowing not even absolute victory could atone for his past, the only choice left was simply to let it all end and hope that that would be enough to bring a final peace for everyone involved.

Heh ya know what I just realized? Wukong has always been a freedom fighter, not just his, but others. He and Bull King were sworn brothers, I'm certain there were others like that Dragon King Yaoguai. Point is, Wukong ascending to Buddhahood could've paved the way for the Court to stop their onslaught against him and the others. But being alive was enough transgression, this entire time Wukong wasn't just fighting for his freedom he was fighting for everyone. In the end he learned the Court would never leave them alone even if he was the Victorious Fighting Buddha. I could be wrong. Also correct me if I'm wrong but Wukong dying and his supposed reincarnation as the Destined One is another form of immortality isn't it? As in, a reincarnation, a rebirth. In the bull kings arms which is at the beginning of the game. A lot of fighting happened after erlang slammed wukong into the mountain. The 5 yaoguai kings from each chapter also showed up which resulted in them jumping wukong, however none of this was shown in the beginning of game. Probably to avoid spoilers of all the chapters final bosses

There must be a reason if Wukong wanted to fight in his mountains (Wukong got his own monkey army, some ate the heavenly peach and also gained some strength). This leads to possibly another war after the beginning scene where Erlang had to rally all yaoguai in the mortal world and all gods in the heaven to finish Wukong once for all.

Yes, this is after Wukong is defeated by Erlang at the beginning of the game. All of the other chapter bosses were present (although not shown) at the beginning and were given the relics upon Wukong’s death.

That "laser beam" at the end was just to representing the celestial court power overwhelm all YaoGuai and finally got controlled everything including Bull King.
