    I just converted mine this week. Drained a large butter tub of old black oil out of it. Don't understand why anyone thought the ez change was a good idea. Good way to shorten the life of an engine. Converting it back to a regular filter and drain plug is definitely the way to go.

    That oil gadget, the non-adjustable tie rods, and that plastic part which serves as the gas gauge and anchor for the rear mower deck stablizer convince me that JD is now the king of junk box store mowers. I had a 73JD 110 and the only plastic parts on it were the little handles on the choke and gas levers. I sold it working fine 3 years ago and I bet it is still running!

      I’m glad it was helpful and everything went smoothly. Your engines life will last a lot longer and after the initial oil filter kit change, it should actually be cheaper to change the oil and filter now and you will get all of the contaminated oil out in the process! Now you should watch my last video on changing your front wheel bushings out to ball bearings. Another big upgrade so your front wheels won’t fall off if not taken care of.th-cam.com/video/Cd15I0mWcQM/w-d-xo.html.

    Brad, Love your videos. Why in the world would John Deere design this "quick change" oil system when as you have shown doesn't allow you to drain all the nasty engine oil. There is no quick way to change your oil and it shouldn't be quick. Probably the most important maintenance you need to perform. Not only does this system not work, the cost is ridiculous. Thank you for what you do.

    • @JohnsonsSmallEngines
      @JohnsonsSmallEngines  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi Ron, that is a question for the real smart person or persons or even an entire team of John Deere employed engineers that designed it, LOL!!Obviously in my opinion, John Deere is not worried about how long they will last but how much more they will make selling you more machines.

      @@JohnsonsSmallEngines Hard to argue with that conclusion. Of course, JD would likely say, since it makes it "easier" to change, folks less inclined to change it will do so with EZ change. I don't buy that argument, or the Easy Change system. I haven't converted yet, because local dealer gave me a free at home service using the EZ change system. It was because of a delivery snafu they wanted to make right. Wasn't going to turn it down. But, I have the drain pipe, filter adaptor, filter and oil ready to go next time. I cut open the EZ Change filter he left with me. The actual filter rather small, all the engineering takes up more space. Really do need to puncture a couple holes in dome to drain the oil inside for recycling. Btw, nice job on the conversion video. 👍

    I am going to do half of this. I am too lazy to convert the filter side, plus I hate getting messy changing the filter. So I will leave the quick change one and add the extension on the drain side. Then when I change the quick change filter I will drain the oil all the way. I just wonder what oil the QC filter comes with.

    Hi Brad, love your videos been watching for a while now and am getting heaps of good info & tips.
    I've just bought a new S120 which has the quick change system and although I think it's a great idea as well it has its flaws as you've pointed out.
    Could I not just buy the drain extension tube and install that then when doing an oil change, remove the old quick change filter, drain the rest of the old oil through the new drain tube, then put the new QC filter back on and top the engine up with the correct amount of oil.
    Would that work or would it be easier to totally swap the filter system out as you've done in the video.
    Keep up the great vids.
    Cheers
    Pete.

    • @JohnsonsSmallEngines
      @JohnsonsSmallEngines  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes you could but the other point of the video other than making the engine last is it is much cheaper to change oil and filter with the kit. The QC oil filter in my area is $50 plus you will need more oil than what is in the QC filter supplies. A normal oil filter goes for $10 to $13 depending on where you purchase it. It’s much cheaper in the long run to change it all out. It’s up to you. Thank you for watching my videos and the kind comment.

    I don’t understand why put that tiny oil filter on in place of larger ez change filter. I don’t see why you can’t drain the block. It has a drain plug like any other small engine. It just needs the extension to make it easier.

    • @JohnsonsSmallEngines

      The what you call "tiny oil filter" is a normal size oil filter used on 99% of all small engines that have oil filters. Why would you spend up to $60.00 everytime you change your engine oil and oil filter plus another 1.5 qts of oil. When you can change out the system back to the original way they are suppose to be and save soooo much money in the process!! You can get the normal oil filter for as little as $8.00 then add the 2 qts of oil. I would say on the average your saving 3x the $$.
