Great video. Once you break the spark plug loose, take the socket off the ratchet and put it on the drive handle. Easier to take out and reinstall than using your fingers in that tight space, then put the socket back on the ratchet for the last 1/4 turn to snug.
I purchased a mulch kit for my e100. I didn't like the way it fit. Part number was same as John deere....I spent the Extra money n got the mulcher kit from John deere n its a much better fit. Guess u get what u pay for. Thankfully it's very easy to return stuff with Amazon. Great videos. Thank you
As a chemical engineer let me add my 2 cents about the easy change system. The filter may be superior to standard filters, trapping more contaminants, however- that does nothing to prevent the thermal breakdown happening to the oil, specifically the remaining bulk of old oil still in the engine, which will become more concentrate over time and oil "changes". The oil will lose viscosity and cleaning agents, and accelerate the wear of the engine. I'd highly recommend the conversion back to standard oil changes at the first oil change.
That’s what I was thinking but when I bought it from someone I know I just pulled the trigger and bought it off them. If I would have done my homework with all the dirty that stays in the engine, even after an oil change, I would’ve passed on it and looked into something else
Easy as pie. Thanks. My two year old E120 with 24.4 hours has a service (SVC) light which didn't clear after replacing everything in the AUC13705 kit purchased at Home Depot. I have started it twice and the light still flashes. After installing the kit, what do I do now to clear the light.
The light is actually on a timer with the hour meter so it will automatically clear once you get a ways past the 25 hour mark. There is no reset like you would have on your vehicle.
Great video. Question. I keep seeing a mixture of responses. When I took off my old filter and applied the new one I got it to turn and it locked, or so it felt like it locked into place. The yellow arrow pointed down to the metal locked symbol, NOT the metal arrow. I was told by countless people and the dealer to make sure the yellow arrow matches the metal arrow. I cannot seem to get it to turn anymore. I am installing it as you were. Any suggestions?
Hmmm. The only way to know for sure is to turn the mower on and see if it leaks but I would make for sure that it will not turn anymore before doing so. I hope this helps and thanks for watching!
Can you turn the filter back towards the removal position without having to press down hard on the filter? If so, then it is not locked properly. You may have the filter tipped somewhat.
@@buggsy5 Had it figured out last year! I forgot that I posted on here haha. So it turns out the sticker was not aligned on the new filter. Everything has been great with it ever since. Thank you for the response!
Hi, your video was very helpful, however, my EZ oil filter came loose while I was plowing the driveway and leaked a long line of oil so my question is: how can I replace that lost oil and know there is enough in the motor?
I would check you oil level with the dipstick and add accordingly. Any oil lost should have been from the engine itself and not the filter. Good question and thanks for watching!
May not be a bad idea. It mainly serves as a dust seal but I'm sure greasing the lip would only increase the chance of catching and stopping particles. Good question and thanks for watching!
I have a smaller yard so I only put 10 hours on my S120 last year (which was also the first year I had the mower). I noticed the air filter barely had any dirt in it. Do you think I'd need to change everything (oil, air, fuel, plugs) after 10 hours? I'm not sure since I'm about to start it up for the first time this year. I live near Cleveland, so it was in my garage in colder weather over the winter.
You are probably ok to hold off until the end of this year. The main thing I would do is make sure it starts and if not then get a charger on your battery and let it sit over night. I hope this helps and thanks for watching!
Thank you! John Deere sells this plug under part number M78543 and here is a link 247parts.com/spark-plug-m78543/. It is a Champion brand. Thanks for watching!
One of the reasons I bought the 120 is the Easy Oil Change. However, I see a lot of people online who criticize it because they insist that all of the oil must be drained, otherwise the engine will be damaged over time. What's your opinion on it?
Here’s the thing, if this was a vehicle and you didn’t change ALL of the oil I would see that as a problem but with mowers they are normally only used a few months out of the year so the life you will get out of the engine is usually not the concern. The other thing that people don’t take into consideration is how much bigger and better made the actually filter is on the easy change system. So it is going to clean the existing oil better than a normal filter. Lastly, if a major manufacturer like John Deere is using it then it has been thoroughly tested and proven to be a good system or they would have scrapped the idea before putting it out. Good question, this is one I get a lot. I am a big fan of the easy change system. I think it’s great for the consumer.
I have the easy change oil filter on my E120 and I Change ALL of the oil. The drain, is on the right side, middle bottom area of the engine. I just have to add more oil to fill it again.
I like your thoughts on this oil filter but I have customers that run these mowers year round, I use a vacuum tank and change the other 2 quarts, if the customer brings the mower in for an oil change I feel like I am giving him the oil change they wanted.
A better solution would be to install the original extended drain tube with locking cap. The biggest problem with the EZ system is that you are essentially running used oil all the time.
Buy the JD drain pipe and oil filter adaptor or the JD conversion kit and at the first oil change get rid of the EZ change system. It's just some EZ change for John Deere. No need to spend $40 US for a system that only changes .8 qts. It's a ripoff.
I have a E120 and I am changing my oil filter from a quick change filter to a conventional oil filter. Would you know the oil filter part number or model number? Thanks
So you are leaving 3/4 of the used, dirty, black oil in the engine while adding a clean filter and 1/3 of a quart of new oil? This is ok for an engine that has run 50/60 hours. I would really like to drain the old oil and put in fresh. This is a 2000 dollar investment. Please advise.
Great videos, I've watched numerous others specifically for the e120 and they're all awesome. I'm not mechanically inclined at all, should we disconnect the battery for this? I know I've heard that on some channels for vehicles.
Thank you. Your best bet it to disconnect your spark plugs first and reconnect them last. I should have done that in these service videos. Thanks for watching!
I have a question my service light is flashing service at 24 hours it's 25 now I went ahead an grease my area that I needed to grease is there something else that is needing service at 25 hours? Oil change is not til 50 hours and it runs and cuts good just the service light pops on and I grease it will it go off now?
You can use a pump to suck out the old oil from the fill tube or you can just by the conversion kit to change it back to the regular filter and drain style.
If you did the conversion yourself - hopefully you kept the original long drain tube and locking cap. If not, buy it from JD and install it in place of the drain plug. You can then drain all the oil during an oil change. You will have to add about 2 more quarts of oil in addition to what is supplied in the EZ filter.,
Yes. All engines consume a bit of oil and the fancy expensive system only changes about 1/3rd of the old oil, just what is inside the special filter. You still have to watch your oil level and top it up as necessary.

No you got it 100% correct. Get the conversion kit and change all the oil and filter for significantly less money. Oh, and contrary to false infr posted, the filter element inside the can is NOT bigger than a standard spin on filter for this application.
