After watching the video, I seriously do NOT understand why it has sooooo many dislikes O.o
Fanboys are close minded. I bet 95% of the Sony ponies who disliked this didn't even watch/listen to the video.

It is really fucking sad that the like/dislike bar is THIS lopsided towards dislike.
But on the other hand it is kinda encouraging that the general opinion in the comments have shifted.
No, the like bar is pretty justified, considering this guy has no logic, and he makes zero good points.
The few good points he DOES make are irrelevant to what is considered "hype" for a new console. I guess in this guy's mind, people shouldn't be excited for a new console.. just because he says so.

Why is there so much dislikes? This video is true in all regards. PS4 and Xbox One are still fucking horrible. Compare the graphics change between PS1 and PS2, then look at PS3 and PS4.
This video is way old (and those dislikes too). It was uploaded after the PS4 presentation, but before the XB1 reveal.

Actually he failed in some predictions, for example in 5:46 he said that every big budget game would be the same M rated FPS of the previous generation, and in 10:04 he insinuated that the single player campaigns of the AAA games would remain short.
The rest of predictions were very accurate.
Are you sure about 5:46? I mean, sure not all FPS are M-rated but look at the lineup!
You either have an ultra colorful FPS (Overwatch and Battleborn), or
A first person shooter pushing for a realistic asthetic (I'll leave that up to you)
But most of the big AAA releases hasn't been FPSs, just remember last year:

I dunno, Sony delivered on pretty much everything that got people hyped. The controller's great, it's always recording your gameplay that you can post directly to youtube with a button, the games can stay paused while you watch Netflix, it downloads updates while asleep, and the market's flooded with indie titles like Gone Home and This War of Mine which used to just come out on PC. He mostly focused on graphics and industry trends that had nothing to do with that conference.
If you look at the upload date you can guess why, this was before it actually came out and the fanboys likely felt he was just being negative and that it was going to be such a great console. I passed on buying a console this generation and my friends who gave in all regret their decision.

I kind of disagree there. I mean I like my PS4, and you're right that the controller and some new usability features are indeed very good. But is that actually worth much hype?
I don't even think it's the PS4's fault; it is exactly the sharp-priced iterative improvement of the PS3 that it was meant to become, and it's good at being that. It *is* a good console; just not something to get overly hyped about and I think that was the gist of the video.

Plenty of people would argue that hype of any kind is bad for the industry, so it's hard to say whether the hype was warranted. I'm just justifying the downvotes: The conference directly addressed gamer concerns and this video shit on it by citing things that those gamers didn't care about.
And the few first years of the console have shown that Sony has delivered on the things they actually promised so the fans weren't wrong to care.

This video was released during the peak of the console wars. Compare this to your "8th Gen Console Gaming: The Bunnyhop Review" video, which has far less views and mostly all likes.

3 years later and you are so right, I've had this box for over 2 years and there's nothing to play, the game I bought the console for is still not out because the developers are spending millions of dollars in man hours texturing walls, oh man what a fucking waste. If I watched this video when you made it, I would've called you a hipster who thinks he's so cool because he disagrees with the majority but in hindsight, we can now see you were just smart enough to look at the obvious shit and make a very brilliant assertion of where the gaming industry was headed. Because truth be told, I haven't played 1 game on my PS4 or XBOX one that made feel the way I did when I first played Uncharted 2.
Not anymore, played Bloodborne., Dark Souls 3, Ratchet and Clank and Uncharted 4 since I wrote this comment and I am loving gaming again, granted didnt really like Uncharted 4 but it was still a good game, I guess I just needed to try something new, I heard the souls games werent for casuals like me but once I finally got Bloodborne and got into it, I didnt wanna play anything else, so yeah maybe this generation isnt as fucked as it once appeared.
I heard about Yakuza, wanna get in but I think it's only on the PS3 right now and I cant be bothered to go dig out my PS3, I really should though. Which game would you advise me to play first?

Peter E, when I played on my PS3 years ago I got seriously bored from the lack of games that are plain fun. I stuck to indie games from then on, for example, I played Spelunky and it was so good. After a while I wanted a new console, I did a lot of research and ended up with the Wii U seeming the most fun. I have not regretted my decision. Maybe it's just because I love local couch gaming which the Wii U has a lot of (eg. Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, Mario Kart 8).
Bloodborne is by far the best game of this generation for me.

I'm going PC (Loving my rig I built days before 2020) this generation and I'm taking his advice on waiting a year in a half. THe only reason I might get a PS5 is three possible reasons.
A. It's backwards compatible (said to be the case for most of the ps4s library) and if it enchances PS4 games like the Pro Model
B. It has plenty of exclusives
C. I was gonna say the Ultra HD Blu Ray which I bought the PS4 for both next gen and to switch to Blu Ray. But I could by an Ultra HD player cheaper.
D. Sony stops censoring Boobs

It's true that Sony showed a bunch a games in their presentation, but most of them seemed pretty "samey" to now-last-gen.
So yeah, another one who's gonna wait.
@@Bluebyza Yeah the graphics didn't seem that much different the PS4. Compared to say the jump from the PS1-PS2 or even the jump from the PS3-PS4. Plus a bunch of these are either multi platforms (RE8) or Console Exclusives (AKA the only console it's on is PS4 but it's also on PC). So right, pass at launch.

i should also specify that i own a PS4, but i don't have a problem admitting that, other than for a couple of titles (infact other than Bloodborne i can't think of another killer app ) it's just a useless console at the moment if you own a PC (which i do)
Personally i'll probably don't need to use it until games such as Deep down, The last guardian, Kingdom hearts 3, FF7 remake, Horizon zero dawn ecc come out.
I don't see why the hell should i play games such as Dragon age inquisition, Fallout 4, Metal gear solid V, The witcher 3 ecc on console when i have the MUCH cheaper and MUCH better version on PC..and since i use the same monitor both for my console and my pc i don't even have the excuse of "being able to play in the living room"

I've modified my original post just to clarify that it doesn't matter if this video was made before the launch of the PS4...the current gen of consoles is useless IF you own a PC.. but i agree on theh fact that most people can't spend 1000 euros for a pc and save money later on videogames prices, and since the majority of players plays just a couple of multiplayer games for months or even years..it makes sense for them to buy a console.
I personally own both a PC and a PS4 (plus other consoles such as PS1-2-3, Nintendo gamecube-wii, SNES, SMS ecc..but we're not talking about that) and i have to say...my PS4 has been turned off since i finished Bloodborne's DLC a couple of times, because the various multi platform titles i allways play them on PC (i'm currently playin Dragon age Inquisition and Pillars of eternity..which is an incredible game that isn't avaiable on console)

Well I still play my PS4 since I don't like the Xbox One (for personal reasons so it's not bad if others like it and yep I have an Xbox One but I haven't been on it in ages x.x I will play it maybe once there's games I like and I have the time), it seems to be like a middle grounds system as a go between for being with friends, for indie games, etc. It has its own flaws, however all systems have flaws as well with their own strengths which is why I never judge others for what system they like since it doesn't really make anyone special or any worse than anyone.
-However I will say I would love to have a computer that could play with high graphics while also being able to play any game I could play with loads of GBs..Buuut there is that one flaw. It's really expensive to the people that can't afford PCs without tax returns or if they save at least enough money for months going on a "budget diet". That's the only flaw I know about the system but it is worth the wait and the money for a PC with all the good things you can experience from playing it. It's like having all consoles combined to make one kick ass system x.x

The ones I'm currently using and is out are a PS3, PS4, Xbox 360 (haven't used since I moved to next gen but I sometimes play it for old games I have), Xbox One (haven't used in awhile except for my brothers whom love it to death as they do the PS4 xD), PS4, Wii, Wii-U, and the 3DS. I do have a laptop which I use to play a few games but since it's old with a weak graphic card I'm very limited to what I can play😐

that's because of many reasons, the main one bein this:
let's take the gamecube for example, one of my favourite systems...i do have one (i also have a first model Wii, which can play gamecube games) but holy smokes...the games are INSANELY hard to find and expensive
I can't afford to pay somethin like 60 euro for a game like Eternal Darkness...it is an incredible game (i'm playin it on PC) but seriously...it's a 10 years old game that, for some reason, Nintendo never cared to port to next consoles or sell the licence
therefore, when talkin about retrogaming, i can't define myself as a collector...i never spend more than 20-30 euro for retro stuff because i have to admit..i love having the physical cartridge/jewel case...but i don't feel guilty about "pirating" a game for which the only way to buy it is through the used market
Never had a dreamcast by the way...here in Italy nobody even knew what it was at the time (which is weird since in Italy the Sega mega drive and Sega saturn were definitely easy to find and beloved)
The more and more I hear about the current gen consoles, the more I'm convinced people got ripped off. While the PC and WiiU markets are far from perfect, they so far are the only platforms that have demonstrated that there is value in your purchase. And they do not charge for online. Just saying.

What's sad is that no one cares. The majority of consumers just plain old DO NOT care. People want to go to the store, pick up the console, and play the newest iteration of their favorite yearly series. It's the same situation with music, movies, and TV. Recognizable, easily digestible mediocrity is what sells. It sells because it's easy and requires little thought. Whether you like it or not, people will buy every Call of Duty, Assassin's Creed, Battlefield, etc, etc, because it's what they know.

The PS4 sold on hype and marketing blunders from Microsoft (and to an extent Nintendo). And people still lap it up. This video is still relevant 2 years later, as this console generation really has just been Generation 7.5. The same games, the same damn bullshit and the same business practises, just with shinier and higher resolution graphics. People wonder why I don't have an Xbox One or a PS4 yet. They are the reasons I give. I just can't justify for myself buying either. Nintendo however, though they have made mistakes in the past (and still are making some mistakes even now) and are making up for it way too late into the game, are at least doing something different and made me want to buy a Wii U over the Xbox One and PS4. I already have a gaming PC so I can get all of those multiplats and make 'em run better than what either system can output.

Bummer about all the downvotes. I just watched this for the first time in 2019 (pretty late to the channel and watching occasional older videos between new content) and I have to say, George's intuition was pretty much on the money.
And now it is happening again with the PS5 and Xbox Series. My TV is still 1080p, why would I buy a 4k console to play bugsnax and Assassins Creed.
Let me just say that although I still (somehow) love gaming in this day and age, it is *_unbelievably_* satisfying to hear an opinion such as yours that isn't afraid to go against the grain and is justified in being spoken due to the overwhelming factors that people disturbingly brush aside nowadays.
There simply needs to be more people like you and RazorFist here on TH-cam, or we can pretty much kiss this incredible hobby goodbye. In fact, it would be best to prepare for another industry crash _now_ rather than deny it. At this point, I'm convinced it's gonna happen again.

Unfortunately, most schools don't give much of an education that's helpful to becoming a more rational, informed consumer, or an open-minded skeptic. And even if they did, it'd only help somewhat, because knowledge only does so much good when it's contradicted by instinct and emotion.
Which isn't to say education is useless or that I think that humans are particularly stupid animals. It's just that I think that the problems, choices and manipulations we face in modern society are a lot different from what our brains and bodies evolved to deal with, so it shouldn't be too surprising when people make bad decisions _en masse_ over and over again.

The truth is no one can give me a compelling reason to be excited. I'm still playing the shit out of my PS3. Got GTA V running right now! I got a pretty decent gaming PC. I said a year ago I was in no rush to next gen and I meant it. God I feel like playing Last of Us again. Thats where I'm at now. I'm way passed the point of getting hyped for a new console. Its not being jaded I'm just not seeing the point right now.

"Knowing" that PC is far superior to consoles makes you just as much of a fanboy. Clearly there are pros and cons for each platform. Otherwise, PC would have the highest sales figures for cross title releases.
I use PC for games that benefit from a keyboard and mouse, but the PC versions of games just don't work as smoothly with a plugged in controller.

When I tried to play Witcher 2, the movement felt like I was picking one of 8 directions to move instead of a smooth curve. It feels like there are occasional delays with button inputs on any game I play, which is never an issue on console. Plus I always have to plug in the controller when connecting to a PC.
Maybe the games you played were optimized for a controller, or maybe my PC doesn't work right with my ps4 controller? Either way, it's not a problem I have to deal with on consoles.

Yeah, but that's the thing, now I gotta troubleshoot my controller? I just want to play the games. Same thing for graphics. I always have to adjust and fine tune graphics and key layouts for a quality experience. And when I get it just right, bugs can come up. If something goes wrong on a console, it's rare and it's usually not my fault, so I don't have to have the hassle.
I think that's the main appeal of consoles, there's almost no fiddling about and you're guaranteed the standard experience so you can focus on gameplay. PC gaming is for people who enjoy optimizing and squeezing content out of games with mods (read: control freaks).

As a loyal Sony customer since the first generation of Playstation...I agree with you 100%. The same stuff you are saying are the same things that I have been preaching to people about for the longest time since this announcement! These reasons are exactly why I have not bought a PS4 and choose to wait until I done playing my massive backlog before I move on (if I even do). I know people who did buy this day one and now they seem to be regreating their purchase as it does only little more than collect dust due to the lack of content.

So, three years later and literally the only reason why I consider buying a PS4 is because there's still no PC port of _The Last of Us_. And _Journey_. Both of which are PS3 games ironically.
And Bloodborne. Bloodborne is the only thing the PS4's got going for it.

I actually just bought a second-hand PS3 this past winter. It's brilliant, it's got loads of great games on it. Incidentally, all of the best PS3 games were PS2 remasters. And I'm sure as shit not going to buy a PS4 to play PS2 games.

It has to do with the architecture of the systems, not the physical media that they're capable of reading. I'd recommend reading up on it if you get the chance, there's more differences between the two systems than you'd probably expect.

5 reasons to not get hyped for PC
There hit or miss:
I made 2 pc's with high end parts and both had slight stuttering in games, reformatted, tweak settings, overclocked, reseated hardware. Spent more time fixing my computer then actually playing the damn games. I finally made my games playable but still stutter when i got an ssd, and flashed my bios. But the stutter is still there haunting me
PC's are uncomfortable:
Keyboard and mouse is so uncomfortable where to start? Theres too many positions like desk height, chair height, arm wrest height, keyboard angle, the palmwrest on, tabs up or off on the kb. And i cant ever find comfort with those shit keyboards. I had a varierty of mechanical and rubber gaming kb's and none were comfortable like an xbox controller. And yes i can plug that into my pc but ill be playing online with a controller against kb + m players. Not a good idea. Mouse is more accurate, controller is more comfortable.
Not a level playing field:
You could be playing online against people with 100+fps and high precision mice and dpi settings and hackers are way more common
Expensive.
You have 2 options. Buy, which is incredibly expensive but the most reliable with fewer issues, or build, a lot cheaper but more risk and work making the computer. And games on steam have to go on sale inorder to "save money" when i can go on ebay for games on consoles for 10 bucks for the same games.

The convenience of consoles is an attractive selling point but PC is far more versatile and give users a wider range of games. Considering the new consoles cost about £400 and their limited application, you can spend triple that amount to get a very good PC that has unlimited possibilities. But I suspect this is only a real consideration if you are interested in spending a substantial amount of time on your PC and have a variety of tasks in mind. For most people, consoles are the way to go because of the ease of use. I see the value in both but I prefer PC gaming because of the freedom and control users have.

Next gen games don't look that great yet because it's only the beginning. And most games like AC4, Watch Dogs, BF4 are all on current gens and just HDer versions on next gen. But look at RYSE son of rome fore example on XBONE, it's an exclusive to Next Gen and NO game on current gen can look like that no matter what you do.

The more i play and explore indie games and other genres, the more i realize that oftentimes, less is more. Take a look at games like bastion, transistor or the original oddworld games. They were unique, simple and captured peoples hearts without over flashly graphics.

+Syrus7sk None of the 8-gen consoleswere worth buying at launch, or even one year later. It takes lots of time for there to be enough good, worthy next-gen games, to buy. Wii U didn't get asomewhat respectable (though still VERY small) library untill autumn of 2014, almost 2 years after it launched. That's completely ridiculous, NES and SNES had loads of good games within the first year.
PS4 still has very few games worth despite more than 2 years having passed. Sure there's some good things around now an in the near future, like Ratchet and Clank, Tekken 7, and MGSV, but the industry as a whole is just saturated with sequels, DLC bullshit and unfinished buggy messes being released for full price.
New, good, original games will come to 8-gen, but we'll have to be patient. By 2018 there will probably be several great games that go on to become classics, I really HOPE Last Guardian is one of them.

I watched the video, but I'm afraid I don't agree with you. In my own opinion, the PS4 is a fantastic console, and a wonderful machine overall. However, if you prefer the Xbox One, then that is entirely okay. Just be weary of Microsoft's business practices - the greedy suits they are.

never saw this one as I started following the channel after it was posted. Figure I'd give some opinions on each of your points though.
1. The graphics aren't that much greater, if you want to upgrade generations for graphical reasons then its kind of a weak sell. Photorealism is dumb as a goal for many reasons. (You example of modded GTA 4 looking as good as watchdogs loses me. Watch Dogs is a bit of a mess, but it looks noticeably better to my eyes.) While conferences and consumers obsessing over polygon counts might not have much to be excited about, 8 gigs of RAM (Up from the PS3's Half a gig between CPU and GPU) is huge. There are plenty of things developers want to do but couldn't.
2. Assuming hardware homogenization means software matters more is a bold jump to make. It already is what matters, people aren't exactly buying consoles based on their preferred processor architecture. Are you trying to say that it will be more about buying exclusives since the option of making games too hard to make multi-platform isn't available? Not sure what the point was here and then you discuss rising costs. Rising costs are an issue, but development on new consoles should be cheaper in many ways, they are way easier to code for and require less wacky optimization. Having it easier for devs to port their multi-platform games is a good thing. How is creativity going to be more discouraged now?
3. Completely agree that the games on show weren't justification. Agne's Philosophy was clearly not a new final fantasy so much as a tech demo though, not sure how you could confuse that?
4. Again I agree, next gen demos should definitely be taken with a grain of salt for a variety of reasons. Interestingly Second Son, for all its faults, does look as good as it did when it was shown. The cinematic stuff was unnecessary... though they did add in a mode to the game to let you do all kinds of effects, shift the camera and take photos. Then we get praise for watchdogs, which seemed like it was being honest and unique when we ended up with a downgraded and fairly generic game. Can't fault Bunnyhop there though, no way we could see how that all turned out... which is the whole point of this segment actually so good job!
5. I hate all this dumb connectivity and microtransaction stuff too. Kudos for pointing out how it warps game design.
6.? Companies generally sell products to make money, that doesn't mean this gen isn't overdue. Again, more changes with the generation than just graphics. As for why old stuff won't work 'they made the game work on PS3 and 360,so why not PS4' is absurd. Its an engineering problem, the architectures are different so it would require porting and porting old games is not economically feasible if you aren't sellign the result. If we see x64 consoles into the future at least backwards compatibility should never be an issue again outside of possible storage media issues. As for competing against themselves... that is every single console launch. Quotes like "as opposed to taking the huge graphical leap" kind of show why non-tech people should stay away from discussing tech. There is not a huge leap to be had, there isn't technology like that right now and you literally argued earlier in this video that returns are diminishing and just pushing for that leap is destructive.
The little convenience features are actually pretty nice and weren't put in somehow at the expense of some mystical graphics powers. The quick resume is a great feature that consoles should have. I have never used the play while downloading function but 'laborious 20 minutes' is a pretty weak strawman argument. Modern AAA games are LARGE and if your internet isn't great it could be a long wait and the difference between playing today and tomorrow.
I think the social stuff is dumb too but seriously 'ensure wherever you go you'll be under constant peer pressure to play the same games as your commoditized friends' is just... wow. Melodramatic? Yeah, they do love the free advertising and the push for multiplayer is great for them to be able to get people to get friends into games but seriously.
I agree it wasn't very exciting as a reveal, and I still don't think next gen has become necessary for consumers to grab yet. However, this gen is a major step up for developers. These are mostly good reasons not to get hyped up at all, but they aren't good arguments against a new gen or even PS4's design.

The cloud servers aren't really what prevents lag (this is my field of specialty btw). 100's of exclusives, but only a few really matter (and im not even sure this number is accurate or meaningful). 40+improvements to the controller? They still use batteries that have to be recharged and interchanged, something sony did away with over a decade ago. Can you really expect people to get excited about reduced life of their batteries compared to sony's because you put rumble and magnetic sensors in the triggers?
It sounds like someone just buys into what ms tells you are improvements but haven't actually done research and comparison yourself.
I like this video its well thought out, but I have something to offer up. The these games look like the same thing as the last gen, also happened with the ps2 when the ps3 came out. That was before developers figured out how to use the Cell architecture, now look at the games. Granted I totally agree with you that there is far too much hype when it comes to the making and selling of consoles. I think that in a year or two the ps4 will have some outstanding looking and playing games, I mean the machine now has alot of power, Not as much as a top dollar pc currently but the whole idea behind a console is for people who want to play video games without having to figure out how to work a pc.
