Robert is the Secret Weapon of STP. Highly underrated but is just like John Paul Jones of Led Zeppelin. The secret sauce! I love bands like that. All the musicians all brilliant but the bassist is just phenomenal and carries the rest of the band in a supportive yet backbone way.

If you want another good Scott Weiland song: Fall to Pieces by Velvet Revolver, the supergroup he sang with after STP. The music video will definitely draw some emotion and shines a light on his addiction and relationship issues.
The video definitely adds another layer to the song. Beautiful song on its own of course but the visuals on top of knowing how Scott's battle with addiction ended makes it kick you in the feels that much more.

I’ve been listening to this song for 30 years, and as a composer who has written classical, jazz and alternative, I have to say that this is one of the best songs ever written. The melodies are exceptional throughout, the chord structures are extremely complex and as you stated, the changing time signatures make the song even more compelling. But what makes this song almost unequalled is something you said: oh no, it can’t be over, it’s too short. I swear on my life that I have heard at least five people literally say those words out loud over the years. Generations of people. Back in 92 I remember people saying that, and everyone around them nods in agreement. This is a 4 minute song that people from different times, different generations and different backgrounds can’t get enough of and universally want more of. What more can music be? That’s what makes it one of the best songs of all time
I REALLY wish I had no anxiety, because when I perform this song alone I can sound almost 𝙞𝙙𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙞𝙘𝙖𝙡 to Scott here. Am I as good as him? Not even close. I'm Self-taught. But I think this song specifically works very well with my natural range. I don't need to strain to hit any notes, I get the same natural grit, it just.... Sounds like him. There are only SLIGHT differences that I can't explain. But I couldn't ever seek lessons because I'm so scared to sing in front of other people, it's one of the most disappointing things about myself because objectively, I know I'm really good. But without being able to really show anyone, I don't know HOW good I am, where I fall short, what I need to Improve, etc....
Stone Temple Pilots is so sad and so wonderful at the same time. So much talent, so well done and yet so self destructive. Its the story of all the Grunge bands, they were so amazing and talented and so awfully suicidal in their lifestyle. Its interesting, I had not noticed before but Weiland's vocal style is very country influenced, the flourishes and delivery he uses.
Gen x artists all had a very tragic childhood. Grunge epitomizes that melancholic expression. One Gen x artist that I know of who had a similarly tragic childhood but went full Thrash Metal is James Hetfield. His anger and fury was raw.
Scott Weiland was a vocal chameleon. Check out STP's "Atlanta", which showcases his gorgeous, no nasal, voice. Or when he stepped in with the Doors and sang Break On Through, like Jim Morrison incarnate, OR Scott's Christmas album. Yes, Christmas Album where he croons like Sinatra. SOOO UNDERRATED.
I was going to suggest "Atlanta" which is such a beautiful bit of work. Rob, Dean & Eric have declared since his death, that the track is probably the epitome & peak of their work. A true definition of the word legacy....
I saw them with Cheap Trick too! Odd pairing on paper, but it worked. Would love to see TCV do a dive into Robin Zander's voice. We need a reaction video to "Surrender"!
I also saw them with cheap trick. the younger crowd didn't get cheap trick at first but they caught on by the end of the second song. Great show! !S.T.P. sounded fantastic
I remember sitting in the back of my dad's car, on a summer afternoon with the windows down, cruising down a forest path with this song playing on repeat, my mum and dad in the front, holding hands, my siblings beside me, asleep in their seats, my head against the window dozing off. It was a perfect day. Thank you for bringing that memory back 🖤🌌
"It makes you... start dancing in your seat." My daughter is pursuing a Masters in Music Production and Performance. I don't know shit about Music but I know that this channel helps me connect to her. Thank you. For the reactions, insight, sincerity and the exposure to artists I never would have found without you, thank you. More Chris Cornell, respectfully. "When I'm Down."
One of my top 5 voccalists of all time... such a great baritone... soo rich...so versatile... STP are soo underrated ! One of the best rhythm sections ever in Rock... Eric & Robert are fantastic ! And Dean is mixing jazz chords with heavy riffs... soo good!
Yea Deans guitar playing was amazing. I always thought he was so underrated. I play guitar myself and remember getting a tab book of theirs and thinking what the hell ...! Learnt some great chords and got a new appreciation for their music
If you're looking to reiew more grunge after you're back from leave, I can't recommend Alice in Chains' "Rooster" enough. I'd definitely suggest checking out the music video. In addition to using the studio version of the song (which I prefer to the live version), the video itself is also *very* well done. It's a song guitarist/backing vocalist Jerry Cantrell wrote about his father's experience in Vietnam and hits pretty hard.
I love that song! I first listened to some of the rougher, heavier STP songs in terms of instrumentals and vocals. Songs like Sour Girl, Pretty Penny, and Big Empty allow one to appreciate the full spectrum and colors of Weiland’s incredible voice!
I'm big on "Tiny Music" and "No. 4" as well. Quite a contrast of vocal syles, but both very impressive, especially "Down" and "Heaven and Hot Rods" from "No.4", and "Tumble in the Rough" and "Big Bang Baby" from "Tiny Music".
The "silent film" footage is not from an actual silent film. The entire thing was created by the video's director Kevin Kerslake. He is a brilliant filmmaker who has done videos for a ton of performers. It's funny because I lived in Atlanta for about 25 years and recognized a lot of the landmarks shown in first part of the video.
Scott Weiland and Layne Staley both died battling their demons and have the same vocal styles during the same music era. Both groups were major influences in my life, Scott and Layne will always be missed and remain pivotal figures in their genres.
I come back to this song as maybe the best rock song, ever. Powerful lyrics, artfully constructed, great lead and backing vocals, solid guitar lead, guitar tone for miles, and some fabulous hooks! It is short, bittersweet, danceable, and to the point.
One of Weiland's main musical influences was David Bowie. That's where a lot of his chameleon-like vocal qualities come from. You really hear it on STP"s next album, Tiny Music. Scott really was the David Bowie of the grunge era singers. Just a phenomenal talent. Rip Weiland.🙏
Yeah Tiny Music almost sounds like three different bands made one album together. The differences just between the songs Lady Picture Show, Art School Girl, and Trippin' on a Hole in a Paper Heart are MILES apart..
I mean they never really set out to be grunge in the first place. But those days that's how bands got marketers if they wanted to be successful. Other non-grubge bands that sort of got looped into that were Live and Collective Soul, and then people were so mad when they didn't behave like grunge bands and make grunge music, which happened to STP to a degree as well.
@@dangerkeith3000 Their absolute best album... STP were dismissed as "fifth-rate Pearl Jam and Alice in Chains wannabes" when they first came out and Scott was particularly maligned for his ever-evolving vocal style - accused of trying to sound just like Eddie Vedder, Kurt Cobain, or whoever else at different times but that was the beauty of Scott's talent. He was constantly following his muse to some new exploratory place. They were always my favorite band of the grunge era - in large part because they didn't stick to that one monolithic grunge sound.
It’s so cool watching someone discover something that you’ve loved for so long to where you almost take it for granted. Watching this makes me fall in love with this song and man’s all over again!
STP was phenomenal. You should check out Velvet Revolver with Scott W. & Slash. They did, "Fall to Pieces". a song about drug addiction. Amazing & sad. Worth the review
I loved Scott's voice. "Sour Girl" is a must listen, yes, he could belt it out with the best but in this song, his voice is delicate, haunting, longing. Another must listen is "Fall to Pieces" with Velvet Revolver, incredibly powerful but just so damn sad. It was his goodbye to us all.
Scott Weiland and Stone Temple Pilots are both underrated. And there’s nothing better than 90’s music videos. I always assumed they purposefully ended songs like these early and often without resolve to leave you wanting more, which in turn causes you to buy the album so you can listen to it again and again since streaming and downloads weren’t a thing.
I couldn't agree more! One reason I still love Stone Temple Pilots music to this day, is the Blues-y, Country sound and feel. Blues music is my all-time favorite genre- so I love a 90's grunge band with a Blues-y, twangy feel.
We live in one universe. Then we have this lady.... she lives in a totally separate one. She has such a depth of knowledge , talent and fun for life I wonder who is in charge there? Man I have to change my breakfast sustenance... Best reaction person in this universe and in hers as well....
Elizabeth accomplished what Mark Twain said: "Find a job you enjoy and you'll never have to work again!" Mission accomplished, Miss Elizabeth, mission accomplished 👍👍
She's great. Her and Doug Helvering are my favourites, along with Beth Roars and Just JP. Also love Jay Rah, but he doesn't seem to do as much music (lots of films, etc) these days
The last era of music that you as a person could instantly connect with an artist and feel what they had experienced in their own lives. Completely relevant and relatable to anyone that had experienced any sort of true trauma in there lives. It made millions of people struggling with depression feel like they were not alone. I believe a lot of these songs actually saved lives.
My favorite version of a STP song would be "Creep" from the 1993 MTV Unplugged session . There are some subtle changes to the vocals that have stuck with me since the day I watched it air live. This to me has always been the way the song plays in my head . And that version still lives in my Playlist till this day . No matter how many new phones I switch that track still remains.
This is one of my top three songs of all times. I can’t explain it but this song still gives me chills every time I hear it. Also, it was one of the first songs I learned to play as a young teen many many moons ago!!
My personal favorite STP song. Most people don't know but STP were really bashed and hated on in the 90s by critics. They didn't deserve the hate. Obviously.
I know this is from another industry, but Chef Marco Pierre White, the youngest chef to earn 3 Michelin stars and later returned it, said it best..."I was being judged by people who had less knowledge than me, so what was it truly worth? I gave Michelin inspectors too much respect, and I belittled myself." I think it absolutely applies to so called music critics. Critics put themselves in such a social hightower, they're truly out of touch.
They got bashed mostly for Core... for sounding like other bands... Plush was Pearl Jam, Sex Type Thing was Alice in Chains, etc. Riki Rachtman even took a shot at them on Headbanger's Ball when asked who he thought they sounded like and he said "Who don't they sound like?". He later, after listening to Purple, said that they didn't sound like anyone else on that album and it was really good.
You need to do Dead and Bloated as your next STP song. This is such a removal from everything else you've listened to so far and I feel really shows Weiland's depth.
Plus what the song is about date rape. Saw them in San Antonio in 93 and they opened with that song, Scott came out in extra red lip stick and and a dress with boots, like he was playing both parts boy and girl. That show blew me away!!!
A lot of great STP songs in their catalogue,my personal favorite is "Big Empty" from their second album "Purple" and it also appears on "The Crow Soundtrack" (also a lot of great songs on that too :D )
STP was my favorite band in high school and I was obsessed with looking like Scott. I remember being on a road trip when Purple came out and the radio DJ was so blown away by the album he played four tracks in a row from it, including Interstate Love Song. Losing Scott the way we did continues to be painful but I'm glad there are still people out who can enjoy his music.
@@SeanScorpion That reminds me of Creep from Core... we knew what the lyrics were but it still sounded like he was singing "Take time with a wounded ham." That's still how I sing it when I hear that song - lol!
So many of us baritones breathed a sigh of relief when grunge brought down hair metal. So refreshing to actually sing popular rock songs. I'm Gen X so my musical tooth cutting happened on all those high vocals. It was hopeless until PJ and STP broke out.
RIP Scott, "he said everything was fine, but he was really using again" is such a theme in his life. This song is one of the first that REALLY got me into music. I can't listen to it without tearing up.
Thank you for turning me back on to STP music. I’m old enough to remember this first time around and didn’t appreciate it or much of the grunge era. But now see and hear what I missed and what incredible song writing by DeLeo and voice Weiland had
I’ve played this song on guitar for over 20 years, and I never noticed the 2/4 part you pointed it out. I just always felt it, and played it without ever really counting.
It also can be counted as an extra measure of 4/4 if you count 1-2-3-4 at double the pace that Elizabeth did. Either way, it’s a terrific songwriting piece in the song / especially in the 2nd verse when they do it 2x.
@@gabrielgarcia4906 yeah, in that part I lift my head and body up like jumping on a trampoline, but getting frozen in the air. Then I drop my head back down on the 1 beat like time is unfrozen. That’s how I feel it.
"Ahhh! No! Is this the end?! It's too short!" Exactly! My experience with this song since it dropped! Welcome to the "Songs That End Too Soon" club! 😂 I love STP and Velvet Revolver. So many really great songs, but this one remains my favorite. The groove is infectious, and SW's voice was so wonderful. Gravelly warmth and...I don't know. It's just awesome. The song is still a windows-down-car-concert song even now. He's very much missed.
That's what I've grown to love about your videos. Some of these songs are ones that I grew up to and just enjoyed the song for the song. But now, decades later I get a deeper understanding to those same songs. Thank you for doing what you do, Elizabeth.
Scott is and will always be a vocal chameleon. His early stuff with STP Interstate Love Song, Big Empty, Creep, etc. he has this deep, rasp to his voice. But as he got older is when he really shined. Drift away, sour girl. Then Velvet Revolver, the superband, came. Part guns and roses and Scott on vocals. My gosh. Fall to pieces is perhaps one of the most underrated song he ever sang. Such a talented man gone too soon
Weiland was a superb "Front-man" and vocalist, we knew that back then; we had that feeling...his voice survived himself, and I am not surprised, dude exuded excellence, albeit fractured and vulnerable
Another 90’s song that’s woven into the fabric of my youth. Some of these songs are so classic that you feel like they were always there and you can’t remember life without them.
This song means something different to me than what Scott was singing about. My radio friend used this as his closing song every show (beside his brief stint on internet "radio"). He revealed to me, in the summer of 2019, that he was battling cancer and that it didn't look good. He was declared cancer free in March of 2020, but suffered a massive stroke on July 7th and passed away that day... I miss my friend.
I’m so glad you reviewed another STP song. I have their complete works. So many great songs. So underrated. Scott was an amazing vocalist!! So versatile. His solo albums are wonderful. I cried when we lost him. Such a tortured soul. Would love to see you cover more, Big Empty, Creep, Sour Girl, Cracker Man….RIP Scott 💜
"I wish this song were twice as long as it is." Literally my feelings about this song. I absolutely LOVE it and always have to listen to it at least four times in a row to feel like I've heard it once sufficiently.
Elizabeth Zharoff!!! I'm your fan! Congratulations for your great job! I admire the way you speak. I love this song, and with your comments I never tire of watching it! Kisses from Brazil!!
Yes Sister you are obviousely a comsummate professional;you hit the nail perfectly on the head in your critique of one of my favorite songs! Thank you! Kudos and keep up that great work that youre doing!
It was amazing to hear a renowned opera singer break down this song. I loved all of the insights into the jowls, palate, sinus, etc. Just fantastic Dr. Zharoff! I'm so glad I found your channel. Also, you helped me understand a friend of mine here in Nashville. He is a huge session singer on music row. He was suffering from sinus infections and when they told him he had polyps and they needed to be removed... he wouldn't let them do it. I remember him saying "I might lose my career." That's always stuck with me.
Thank you, TheCharismaticVoice, for your in depth analysis of this song which happens to be one of my absolute favorite songs from Stone Temple Pilots! It was refreshing to see your reactions to this song while you were analyzing it. So very much appreciated this.😊
Awesome breakdown of a great STP song Elizabeth! You should check out "Fall to Pieces" from Scott's mid 2000's run with Velvet Revolver. Amazing song and he really shows that he still had great vocal range at that point of his career. Please do a review of the music video! You won't be disappointed 🙂
Atlanta is an amazing vocal piece that tends to get overlooked. Also break on through with the surviving members of the doors, at the time, is absolutely insane.
I appreciate the hell out of Layne and Jerry, and Kurt. They each had their own special thing going on. Chris Cornell was always in a league of his own as a vocalist but I don't think I really FELT him on a deeper level until later in his solo career. I was never a huge Vedder fan -- well, until his AMAZING Into the Wild Soundtrack as a solo artist in the late 2000s. But out of all of them, it was always Scott who crushed me by pouring his heart out, his everything out, into those songs. There was/is no one like him.
FM radio played the HELL out of this song back in the day. It was easy to get tired of it but it's regrown on me in recent years. Your great analysis helps as well. Thanks!
The DeLeo brothers have a very diverse background musically, and their love of folk and jazz comes through uniquely compared to other grunge era bands.
STP is easily the most underrated grunge band. Their greatest hits album is basically a double album. Plus they have a really solid variety of songs across a wide spectrum. The more you dive into their work, the more impressive they are. You really need to react to Down or Dead and Bloated as their next song, Scott does a really different vocal style on both songs.
Perhaps my all-time favorite song. STP is legendary in my generation. So haunted. But my goodness the music. The entire what you might call '90's male voice singing in baritone is lost now with guys all doing like high tenor. I wish this sort of richness might come back someday
I was just drawn back to one of the ones that soothes my soul after a rainy day at work. That little 1234,12, just took us off our feet. And the timing in history was so needed. This song set our hearts and souls to flying for just a moment... and it was so needed.
Oh my gosh! I started learning drums 2 months ago and I'm working on this song RIGHT NOW. In fact, my drum lesson is in an hour.... So excited for this video!
Just discovered this channel and I've been binging on it all night. I love hearing the in depth analysis of bands and singers that have marked ,y teenage years. Absolutely loving it.
Thank you for doing this song! One of my all time favs as a teenager in the 90s. I know you've already done Chris Cornell a few times but I'd love to hear your thoughts on his performance in Spoonman, off Soundgarden's Superunknown album. IMO he was one of the best rock vocalists of all time and you can really hear the power in that song (that belt at the start of the solo is insane!) Plus it's just a killer riff ;)
Some days I believe this is my favorite song of all time. Perfection by the immensely talented Rob Deleo. Big thanks Elizabeth for delving into this gem 😊
Gosh I love the catch to the change for common time to a 1-2 and back to common time. The attention to detail you have is incredible. Now when I hear this song I can't unhear that shift in time signatures
Gravel and silk-- this is how I have always characterized Weiland's voice. I think it would be amazing to hear you cover some of the women of the grunge movement! The Breeders, L7, Veruca Salt, and so on. "Cannonball" by the Breeders and "Pretend We're Dead" by L7 were two of my anthems as I graduated high school in '96.
Your reaction to the song being over... it nailed my exact feeling every time I listen. Every time I hear it I just want more. Maybe someday someone brilliant can make a pt2 to satiate the need for more. IMO one of the best songs ever written.
I think STP's got one of the more appealing catalogs of music. I can listen to all their albums from beginning to end and am always amazed by the writing, phrasing and performance.
We just released merchandise! Check out the full line-up here: thecharismaticmerch.com

And Robert DeLeo is the true genius behind STP. But when he and Scott were in sync... pure magic happened.
That hook was pulled from Jim Croce's 'I got a name". I mean, it's a pretty simple walk really, and I don't know if it was a conscious thing, but it's exactly the same, only faster.
Big empty was an awesome song. It went with The Crow so well
Good songs, but I’d still love to see someone do a reaction to Atlanta tho.

It is a pretty long version since it takes her five minutes to say something that takes five seconds. She's hard to watch, glad you all like her.

The bass lines in this song make it. Absolute classic.
The guitar and bass player are brothers who have the tightest licks, catchy riffs. Really listen to the bass, he’s all over. Great band.
They are a dynamic duo
ONE OF MY TOP 5 BASSISTS!
Rest in peace, Scott Weiland. You will be missed always.
For real, Scott, Layne, Chris and so many more beautiful, talented musicians have been lost., thank God for the timeless music they left behind..

My daughter is pursuing a Masters in Music Production and Performance. I don't know shit about Music but I know that this channel helps me connect to her.
Thank you. For the reactions, insight, sincerity and the exposure to artists I never would have found without you, thank you.
More Chris Cornell, respectfully. "When I'm Down."
Seconded
"you know my name" by Chris Cornell too
Or his cover of Billie Jean.
@@MrMxyhem One of the best covers of all time? Also "Nothing Compares 2 U."
Every one of you is right.
It's a song guitarist/backing vocalist Jerry Cantrell wrote about his father's experience in Vietnam and hits pretty hard.
th-cam.com/video/kP_52AfyGv8/w-d-xo.html
I added Rooster too! Jerry Cantrell is a great songwriter and guitar player. So were Alice in Chains. I loved that band 💘
Love AIC but Rooster is not one of my favorites. Love that they can go from hard rock to acoustic so well between albums.
Would? Is good to. But any of the Seattle sound is good
Yes! Roosters!
STP was so fantastic live! Velvet Revolver was a lot of fun as well. I'm so glad I had the opportunity while we still had Scott.
STP when at the top of their game is one of my favorite live acts (saw them 4 times with Weiland)...it all depended on Weiland and how high he was.
To really explore his voice you should listen to the ballad "Sour Girl" written about his divorce from his first wife.
@@thaddeusbohn9516 Big Bang Baby is my favorite track off of Tiny Music… It has a killer riff and I absolutely love the uniqueness of the vocals
@@miajc6606 Yeah, I was thinking that after "Plush" if she did "Big Bang Baby" and then "Sour girl" she'd have a perfect understanding of his voice.
@@miajc6606 If you're going for softer songs, don't forget "Lady Picture Show".
My favorite STP jam
Great Elizabeth. You are doing my favorite STP song.
Voices to the soundtrack of our lives
Two of the best, if not the best to do it
Absolutely
I still can't decide which grunge vocal is better, Layne or Scott. Personally, I lean towards Scott. His vocal has a more mature texture to it.
They will always be major influences, Alice In Chains in my favorite band and STP is up there with them
I come back to this song as maybe the best rock song, ever. Powerful lyrics, artfully constructed, great lead and backing vocals, solid guitar lead, guitar tone for miles, and some fabulous hooks! It is short, bittersweet, danceable, and to the point.
Yes. Perfect song.
On his solo song "Barberella", the music video has themes from the film "The Man Who Fell To Earth" that starred David Bowie.
Yeah Tiny Music almost sounds like three different bands made one album together. The differences just between the songs Lady Picture Show, Art School Girl, and Trippin' on a Hole in a Paper Heart are MILES apart..
Very well said ! Bowie also changed his vocal style many times. And Scott did it also amazing. His voice was just awesome
Don't I know it man. I sit here every time w goosebumps and huge grin while she discovers all the badassness
Fall to Pieces is amazing
I love sour girl. But I also love Scott version of patience
I totally agree on "Sour Girl" being an essential - that tune is magic
Elizabeth accomplished what Mark Twain said: "Find a job you enjoy and you'll never have to work again!"
Mission accomplished, Miss Elizabeth, mission accomplished 👍👍
"we?" nah. you.
@@scottmatznick3140 Probably... You may be right...
She's great. Her and Doug Helvering are my favourites, along with Beth Roars and Just JP. Also love Jay Rah, but he doesn't seem to do as much music (lots of films, etc) these days
Well and interestingly said 🔥
The last era of music that you as a person could instantly connect with an artist and feel what they had experienced in their own lives. Completely relevant and relatable to anyone that had experienced any sort of true trauma in there lives. It made millions of people struggling with depression feel like they were not alone. I believe a lot of these songs actually saved lives.
RIP Scott. So sad all these great guys were gone so early. Wish they were all still around today! Have loved this song for years.
Great riff, sublime chords, and everything put together - it just grips your heart and squeezes
Obviously.
Yeah this song is so finely produced. It's tight, nothing extra. But like the Coach: ahhh it's too short! Give me more.
Yep and as a 90s young adult it really annoyed me. Now that we are far from the lame critics STP finally getting some respect props.. long overdue
Years ago I seen video of him and one of the Deleo brothers stripped down in a city park and him singing Plush made me love his voice even more.
Dead and bloated is such a fcking banger. Also potentially their heaviest song
@@noahtaylor4971 That one and Piece Of Pie.
Sex type thing would be another good one
Plus what the song is about date rape. Saw them in San Antonio in 93 and they opened with that song, Scott came out in extra red lip stick and and a dress with boots, like he was playing both parts boy and girl. That show blew me away!!!
This song has one of the best intros (at least vocal intros) to a song ever.
Weiland's voice was so warm. You can say it had a lot of other qualities, but the warmth of his voice was the thing that was always present.
One of the best rock songs ever created in my opinion this song is amazing
My favorite STP song.
When I was a junior in high school this Tape was in my car all the time. One of my all time favorite bands
A lot of great STP songs in their catalogue,my personal favorite is "Big Empty" from their second album "Purple" and it also appears on "The Crow Soundtrack" (also a lot of great songs on that too :D )
Big Empty is their best song. Purple is one of my favorite albums
Big Empty absolutely needs to be the next STP review.
The Crow soundtrack is absolutely fantastic. The second one also had a great soundtrack, but you can skip the movie lol
The Crow Soundtrack is the best soundtrack of the 90s IMO.
silvergun superman😩
STP was my favorite band in high school and I was obsessed with looking like Scott. I remember being on a road trip when Purple came out and the radio DJ was so blown away by the album he played four tracks in a row from it, including Interstate Love Song. Losing Scott the way we did continues to be painful but I'm glad there are still people out who can enjoy his music.
Funny aside, I used to hear the vocal line as "ham and mustard cheese" which is a classic mondegreen.
@@SeanScorpion That reminds me of Creep from Core... we knew what the lyrics were but it still sounded like he was singing "Take time with a wounded ham." That's still how I sing it when I hear that song - lol!
Oh how I loved Scott Weiland's voice
So many of us baritones breathed a sigh of relief when grunge brought down hair metal. So refreshing to actually sing popular rock songs. I'm Gen X so my musical tooth cutting happened on all those high vocals. It was hopeless until PJ and STP broke out.
You too?
@@ricardorodriguez5549 Yeah. Remember the "You can sing. Do the harmony on this behind me" days to Queensryche songs? Lol
Words can't express how much Scott's passing has hurt my soul. He was a lovely wonder.
RIP Scott, "he said everything was fine, but he was really using again" is such a theme in his life. This song is one of the first that REALLY got me into music. I can't listen to it without tearing up.
Dude this song got me thru my breakeup year ago still love this it has a speacial place in my heart
I just always felt it, and played it without ever really counting.
you're right, you feel this song when you play it on the guitar in a way that doesn't feel like other songs.
I love STP and Velvet Revolver. So many really great songs, but this one remains my favorite. The groove is infectious, and SW's voice was so wonderful. Gravelly warmth and...I don't know. It's just awesome. The song is still a windows-down-car-concert song even now. He's very much missed.
Always leave 'em wanting more
That's what I've grown to love about your videos.
RIP Scott i know you had your demons we all do but you were a big part of my Childhood and your music will be with me to the end!
Scott could do it all vocally in his prime. And one of the last great frontmen. Glad I got to see those guys live as much as I did. Huge loss to rock.
Fantastic! Thanks to Elizabeth for once again taking us drummers to school on time signatures. That 2/4 break is a master stroke.
Weiland was a superb "Front-man" and vocalist, we knew that back then; we had that feeling...his voice survived himself, and I am not surprised, dude exuded excellence, albeit fractured and vulnerable
When Scott sang low like this he was amazing. When he did the falseto heroine wail stuff he did.... it just jarred me. I love this era of STP
I love hearing this song out loud, the lyrics, the voice, the wonderful bass line, the punchy drums. Nice analysis!
Sour Girl in year 2000 LIVE on Tonight Show with Jay Leno you will not be disappointed. AMAZING LIVE PERFORMANCE
"I wish this song were twice as long as it is." Literally my feelings about this song. I absolutely LOVE it and always have to listen to it at least four times in a row to feel like I've heard it once sufficiently.
Vaseline was the same.. amazing, but stops...just as it's getting going! ☹
Elizabeth Zharoff!!! I'm your fan! Congratulations for your great job! I admire the way you speak. I love this song, and with your comments I never tire of watching it! Kisses from Brazil!!
That whole album is an experience. From the first chord to the last. I just throw my headphones on and go.
Yes Sister you are obviousely a comsummate professional;you hit the nail perfectly on the head in your critique of one of my favorite songs! Thank you! Kudos and keep up that great work that youre doing!
I love Weiland’s voice. MTV’s unplugged of Big Empty. Such ease. It’s so good.
She’s so beautiful and sincere in her analysis. Love watching her watch the video. Captivating
I love to see how animated and excited you get. It is very cool to see your passion so visible.
I’m new to your channel and absolutely love it! Your reactions capture an almost childlike wonder and enthusiasm that’s really compelling.
Atlanta is an amazing vocal piece that tends to get overlooked. Also break on through with the surviving members of the doors, at the time, is absolutely insane.
The most underrated band from the “Grunge” era. Great music video.
I get chills hearing this. It reminds of the great times in the mid 90's. STP were one of my favorites.
You want to experience Weiland's range? Check out "Hello, It's Late" or "And So I Know". He's the best of the era.
Gosh yes "And So I Know" is one of my all time favorites!
And "Fall to Pieces" from his run in Velvet Revolver
Atlanta is my favorite.
@@kathifuller5332 Scott’s vocal performance on Atlanta is absolutely masterful! 👍
I loved this song the first time I heard it, and so loved the harmonies STP used. What a great band.
Scott weiland was one of the most talented people in his genre. His voice, his melancholic character.
Only love comes to mind now.🤎
I appreciate the hell out of Layne and Jerry, and Kurt.
Well said from a good musical ear. I'm a bassist and Rob DeLeo is morbidly underrated
Rob delco got me into the bass. He came up with this song in a u haul trailer messing with his gear
The more I listen, the more I realize those guys were legitimate musicians
STP is easily the most underrated grunge band. Their greatest hits album is basically a double album. Plus they have a really solid variety of songs across a wide spectrum. The more you dive into their work, the more impressive they are. You really need to react to Down or Dead and Bloated as their next song, Scott does a really different vocal style on both songs.
There was SO much good music in the 90's you're right they kind of get left out. 100% agree on Dead and Bloated.
They’re still considered to be a part of the big 5 of grunge though, even though they weren’t from Seattle. That in itself is a big honor.
Great suggestions...'Down' always makes me smile....I think 'Atlanta' would be another good one from No.
5 to cover also. I L9VE THAT ALBUM TOO!
Perhaps my all-time favorite song. STP is legendary in my generation. So haunted. But my goodness the music. The entire what you might call '90's male voice singing in baritone is lost now with guys all doing like high tenor. I wish this sort of richness might come back someday
You should look into some of his live unplugged performances. They're great.
STP is definitely a great band to learn the drums to.
Love the way you caught the 2/4 part straight away. Such great song writing.
You need to check out Fall to Pieces. Scott REALLY belts it out on that one. You will ❤ it!
Some days I believe this is my favorite song of all time. Perfection by the immensely talented Rob Deleo.
Big thanks Elizabeth for delving into this gem 😊
i feel like she would be the best teacher a kid could have..shes just has very soothing way about her..love your channel
Yes! Yes! Yes!!!
😍😍😍😍
Definitely do more Scott please🙏✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨
