We must remember Chris was a drug addict and alcoholic who relapsed. Conventional therapy's don't normally work for us. So while I'm glad you focused on mental health which is so important. It's worth adding AA and NA are there as well for those suffering from the disease of addiction.

My wife loves this song and I was able to sing it for her as she lay in my arms and peacefully passed away from kidney disease. After a decade of pain, she is finally at peace , with no more pain. Chris Cornell's version of Patience is the one that gets me the most. The music video showing all the pictures of him with his daughter mixed with that voice, it's basically impossible to not cry.
This song (Nothing Compares 2 U) guts me every time I hear it, but I agree, his version of Patience, coupled with its video is … hard. Chris’ death hurt me much harder than I expected.

As a grown man, i am not embarrassed to say this performance brings a tear to my eye every time I hear it. I was lucky enough to see Chris play with Soundgarden and on his solo tour for Higher Truth with my son. Seeing him in such a small venue only a few rows from the stage was unforgettable and I am so glad to have shared it with my son. Thank you Chris!

I'm the same way and feel this 💯. Chris will always be my favorite vocalist and his death impacted me extremely hard. When Chester took his life, my heart was torn! 2 of the most talented vocalists that got me through decades of pain and emotion and still does to this very day. 2 people that can't be replaced.
The part where he somberly sings about how all the flowers she planted died when she went away always gets me, but for some reason, most reactors don't even mention it. Another of our Seattle musical icons tragically gone far too soon.

Lyrics like "no one sings like you anymore", "And he hurt so bad like a soul breakin', but he never said nothing to me", "the sky was your playground, but the cold ground was your bed", and really this whole song. Chris was a force of nature. And you're so right about mental health. If you're in those dark times, just don't give up. Those dark times show us who we are. The first time I listened to Audioslave's debut after he was gone when the chorus of "Shadow of the Sun" hit And I can tell you why People die alone I lost it.
His death was the only time I cried over the death of a musical artist. His brilliant light and his amazing talent are deeply missed. Nothing compares to you Chris. RIP.
I was more mad than sad at Chris' suicide. It's not logical, but emotions rarely are. It was such a waste of talent, not to mention all the people he left behind, hurt and sad and wondering why. I'd played a few Soundgarden songs in various local bands or just in jam sessions, but I don't anymore since Chris killed himself. It doesn't feel right. I cried when I heard Dimebag Darrell was murdered. I'd seen Pantera twice, once in 1999 opening for Sabbath and once in 2001, and he was so much fun to watch, so great to listen to live. He clearly loved playing for the fans; his joy was infectious. His death hit me like a ton of bricks.

Will never forgot Eddie Vedder's solo-concert right after Chris died. He lost his great friend and still played amazingly. Everyone could feel his pain.
when Eddie performed "Black" with just him and a guitar and he says "come back" a few times in the end...the most heartbreaking thing I have ever seen. the amount of pain in that man's voice and eyes was just..wow.
I saw Eddie at the Hammersmith in London when he opened up about Chris's death... tbh, cried like a baby. I sat there sobbing. Eddie was heartbroken, and so were we. Even typing this makes me cry.... that's how hard it hits hey. :(
When he sings that living with him is sometimes hard, it feels like he's dredging up every ounce of that depression and laying it bare. It gets me every time.
Cornell was one of the very few vocalists where every time he sang it was pure emotion. Nothing ever felt forced, or even like he's making an effort to sing. It's just like his vocals were a direct conduit to his soul. Expression in it's most primal form.
I can't listen to this song without tearing up. Prince, Sinead, and Chris were 3 of my most favorite artists that gave me so much comfort in my times of need. Now they're all lost to us. I hope they're all in a better place.

You've hit the nail on the head. Chris was SO emotive in his vocal style. Soundgarden was a cathartic release that got me through some tough times, and his passing still stings.
The loss of Chris and then Chester shortly after was devastating to many of us, especially those of us who use music as our therapy more than anything else. I have seen so many of my musical idols come and go, and it can get extremely difficult and it can make it seem like the dark times never end, but they do, you just have to keep pushing forward a little at a time.
That made Chris's death my 'hardest hitting celeb loss', because it made such a wave of impact across not just the listeners, but other musicians themselves.
As a mental health survivor myself, I want to thank you for sharing your support to our wellbeing. I lost my fiance 3 years ago to depression, and it's still a gut punch every morning. This song hits a little different every time I hear it.

I didn't know this was a Prince cover. I always associate this song with Sinead O'Connor; Her voice was so beautiful on that track. She sang it for her mother who had passed away a few years before. Chris's death was a massive loss for the world. His performances were drenched in emotion, as is evidenced by this performance. He was definitely one of the best vocalists of a generation. I'm grateful I was able to see him live when Soundgarden was touring behind the "Superunknown" album.
I met Chris briefly in a restaurant briefly in 2004 or 2005 while visiting with a friend in Seattle. He was chilling with a friend and my friend recognized him and said "That's Chris Cornell" and he wanted to go over and talk to him. I said "Let's chill and buy him a drink"... so we bought him a drink and when he was done talking to his friend he came over and shook both of our hands thanking us for the drink... he just gave off this really true and genuine vibe.... because of that experience...I have always viewed him as a very true and genuine person.
Prince deserves to be on the channel himself, tbf. Little dude was insanely gifted, as a musician, singer, performer, and composer. Not many people can just give away number 1 hits like Christmas stocking stuffers...

Chris Cornell’s talent was extraordinary. Not only his singing but his songwriting, his deep lyrics. He is like the most beautiful comet I’ve ever witnessed. I feel blessed to have lived at the same time as him. Saw him live solo and in every band of his. He never disappointed, always left me speechless and like I was in Heaven.

Cris Really made every cover he sang his own, from Led Zeppelin to Micheal Jackson, and from jazz to metal he was one of the most versatile and talented musicians. Hope you do some Cris in the future not even going to request any song cause any song you chose it would be great.

As much as I love Chris Cornells version and voice I'll never forget where I was when I saw Sinead O'Connors version for the first time. I was about 12 and watching it on Top of the Pops, an iconic UK music show. It's very powerful. I hope you look at it sometime.
There is a live version of “When I’m Down” that is fantastic and heartbreaking. It’s just him and a pianist, and it’s one of his best performances in my opinion
The way the cello is bowed and the guitar is picked during the solo is so beautiful. It lulls me into this bittersweet melancholic sense of serenity. Then Chris comes in so strongly with “all the flowers that you planted mama, in your back yard” which snaps me back to reality, then he shifts back down to a breathy, broken-sounding “all died when you went away”. Makes me shed a little tear every time. Such powerful singing, one take, minimal production, pure emotion - such great music making right here. I come back to this every once in a while when I need to let out some of my sadness.
I was about 8 years old when I first heard Chris and Soundgarden. 1992 I belive it was. I've been a huge pearl jam and soundgarden fan for as long as I can remember. Chris and Soundgarden were a huge parts of my growing up. I didn't know how much I would miss him till he was gone. I saw soundgarden 2 weeks before his death. A master of a movement and era that we might never see again happen again. Safe to say we all Miss him. Loud Love and RIP Chris and Chester.

Cornell put his soul and his immense sensitivity into every cover, and everything he played shone like gold, is brilliant, singular, art in the purest form. Beyond the Wheel...Sound Soundgarden. Shows his 4 octave range...I was 6 feet way from him when he sang this live in St. Louis in 2012...crowd was going nuts, but I was frozen like the old RCA dog because I've never been that close to someone who could do that with his voice and it seem so effortless. Truly amazing

I love hearing him belt out, even mini belts like 14:47 ! It gives me chills! When I get into my somber modes I listen to this and Linda Perry's "It F**king Hurts" (her version at "Guitar Center"). I wish you would listen to her if you haven't! She started as the singer for 4 Non Blondes,, and as soon as I heard her voice,, I knew she was going to be a success in the music field! Her song Letter to God, that she performed on the the TV show ''The Talk" with Sharon Ozbourne, was a really emotional performance that I also wish you would get a chance to see as well!! The amount of people who really can't handle stress, depression, and anxiety, along with negative traumatic instances in their life, is an unbelievable number! It has even taken a toll on myself many many times being there with them in my attempt to be a band-aid until I tried to get them to the help they needed! I was fortunate to see him in concert 4 times - once with Soundgarden in 2011, twice on his solo acoustic tours, and on the Temple of the Dog 25th anniversary tour 6 months before his death. The power and the pain in his voice is what has drawn so many to his music for years. Please consider doing more reactions with his singing in the future! We must remember Chris was a drug addict and alcoholic who relapsed. Conventional therapy's don't normally work for us. So while I'm glad you focused on mental health which is so important. It's worth adding AA and NA are there as well for those suffering from the disease of addiction.

Chris was a drug addict.that relapsed 2. 12 Step programs overwhelmingly.have.the highest success rate for alcoholic's and drug addicts. Don't take my word for it though. My wife loves this song and I was able to sing it for her as she lay in my arms and peacefully passed away from kidney disease. After a decade of pain, she is finally at peace , with no more pain. She was the most beautiful soul and she absolutely loved this version of the song. RIP my love Jan. 2, 2022

As a grown man, i am not embarrassed to say this performance brings a tear to my eye every time I hear it. I was lucky enough to see Chris play with Soundgarden and on his solo tour for Higher Truth with my son. Seeing him in such a small venue only a few rows from the stage was unforgettable and I am so glad to have shared it with my son. Thank you Chris!

I feel this way with pretty much every acoustic song Chris has done. Just such an amazing talent. He's the one artist I wish I could bring back more than anything.
I'm the same way and feel this 💯. Chris will always be my favorite vocalist and his death impacted me extremely hard. When Chester took his life, my heart was torn! 2 of the most talented vocalists that got me through decades of pain and emotion and still does to this very day. 2 people that can't be replaced.
The part where he somberly sings about how all the flowers she planted died when she went away always gets me, but for some reason, most reactors don't even mention it.

Lyrics like "no one sings like you anymore", "And he hurt so bad like a soul breakin', but he never said nothing to me", "the sky was your playground, but the cold ground was your bed", and really this whole song. Chris was a force of nature. And you're so right about mental health. If you're in those dark times, just don't give up. Those dark times show us who we are. I was more mad than sad at Chris' suicide. It's not logical, but emotions rarely are. It was such a waste of talent, not to mention all the people he left behind, hurt and sad and wondering why. I'd played a few Soundgarden songs in various local bands or just in jam sessions, but I don't anymore since Chris killed himself. It doesn't feel right.
I cried when I heard Dimebag Darrell was murdered. I'd seen Pantera twice, once in 1999 opening for Sabbath and once in 2001, and he was so much fun to watch, so great to listen to live. He clearly loved playing for the fans; his joy was infectious. His death hit me like a ton of bricks.

Will never forgot Eddie Vedder's solo-concert right after Chris died. He lost his great friend and still played amazingly. Everyone could feel his pain.
when Eddie performed "Black" with just him and a guitar and he says "come back" a few times in the end...the most heartbreaking thing I have ever seen. the amount of pain in that man's voice and eyes was just..wow.
I saw Eddie at the Hammersmith in London when he opened up about Chris's death... tbh, cried like a baby. I sat there sobbing. Eddie was heartbroken, and so were we. Even typing this makes me cry.... that's how hard it hits hey. :(
When he sings that living with him is sometimes hard, it feels like he's dredging up every ounce of that depression and laying it bare. It gets me every time.
Cornell was one of the very few vocalists where every time he sang it was pure emotion. Nothing ever felt forced, or even like he's making an effort to sing. It's just like his vocals were a direct conduit to his soul. Expression in it's most primal form.
I can't listen to this song without tearing up. Prince, Sinead, and Chris were 3 of my most favorite artists that gave me so much comfort in my times of need. Now they're all lost to us. I hope they're all in a better place.

You've hit the nail on the head. Chris was SO emotive in his vocal style. Soundgarden was a cathartic release that got me through some tough times, and his passing still stings.
The loss of Chris and then Chester shortly after was devastating to many of us, especially those of us who use music as our therapy more than anything else. I have seen so many of my musical idols come and go, and it can get extremely difficult and it can make it seem like the dark times never end, but they do, you just have to keep pushing forward a little at a time.

I didn't know this was a Prince cover. I always associate this song with Sinead O'Connor; Her voice was so beautiful on that track. She sang it for her mother who had passed away a few years before. She started crying while filming the "official music video" and told them to leave it in. The greatest songs are those anyone can connect with.

Chris's death was a massive loss for the world. His performances were drenched in emotion, as is evidenced by this performance. He was definitely one of the best vocalists of a generation. I'm grateful I was able to see him live when Soundgarden was touring behind the "Superunknown" album.

I met Chris briefly in a restaurant briefly in 2004 or 2005 while visiting with a friend in Seattle. He was chilling with a friend and my friend recognized him and said "That's Chris Cornell" and he wanted to go over and talk to him. I said "Let's chill and buy him a drink"... so we bought him a drink and when he was done talking to his friend he came over and shook both of our hands thanking us for the drink... he just gave off this really true and genuine vibe.... because of that experience...I have always viewed him as a very true and genuine person.

Chris Cornell’s talent was extraordinary. Not only his singing but his songwriting, his deep lyrics. He is like the most beautiful comet I’ve ever witnessed. I feel blessed to have lived at the same time as him. Saw him live solo and in every band of his. He never disappointed, always left me speechless and like I was in Heaven.
One of the greatest evolution to Chris's vocals was that added beautiful vibrato. The maturation of a true vocalist.
This version just tears my heart into shreds. It always gives me chills and goosebumps. Every single time.

I swear when I hear Chris's voice it's like he is singing to ME! Literally, the most amazing voice of pain and hurt.
Chris is my favorite male voice of all time. My god, I can’t listen to him without fighting tears. I miss him so, so much. I can feel his pain through the music. 😭
As much as I love Chris Cornells version and voice I'll never forget where I was when I saw Sinead O'Connors version for the first time. I was about 12 and watching it on Top of the Pops, an iconic UK music show. It's very powerful. I hope you look at it sometime.
There is a live version of “When I’m Down” that is fantastic and heartbreaking. It’s just him and a pianist, and it’s one of his best performances in my opinion
The way the cello is bowed and the guitar is picked during the solo is so beautiful. It lulls me into this bittersweet melancholic sense of serenity. Then Chris comes in so strongly with “all the flowers that you planted mama, in your back yard” which snaps me back to reality, then he shifts back down to a breathy, broken-sounding “all died when you went away”. Makes me shed a little tear every time. Such powerful singing, one take, minimal production, pure emotion - such great music making right here. I come back to this every once in a while when I need to let out some of my sadness.
I was about 8 years old when I first heard Chris and Soundgarden. 1992 I belive it was. I've been a huge pearl jam and soundgarden fan for as long as I can remember. Chris and Soundgarden were a huge parts of my growing up. I didn't know how much I would miss him till he was gone. I saw soundgarden 2 weeks before his death. A master of a movement and era that we might never see again happen again. Safe to say we all Miss him. Loud Love and RIP Chris and Chester.

Chris is my favorite. I have watched sooooo many live performances of his and my favorite by far is ‘When I’m Down’ live at the Troubadour. Just him and a piano. All the emotion, goosebumps, high notes, blues notes, etc. Ahhh so good. Check it out if even on your own time. 🙂
Beyond the Wheel...Sound Soundgarden. Shows his 4 octave range...I was 6 feet way from him when he sang this live in St. Louis in 2012...crowd was going nuts, but I was frozen like the old RCA dog because I've never been that close to someone who could do that with his voice and it seem so effortless. Truly amazing
I had this same reaction when I saw Audioslave do an acoustic show just after there second Album came out. It was so touching. The only other time I felt something like that was when I saw STP in like 2000

I've been listening to this man's vocals for three decades and he never ever ceases to amaze me. It's a damn shame we'll get nothing new from him, but there is so much he left with us to be thankful for.
This version brings tears to my eyes every time! Not only do I wish I could sing like this very talented man, but the arrangement with the cello, the guitar, almost a Spanish style , the cadence , all of it makes this such a beautiful version of this song!! I love hearing him belt out, even mini belts like 14:47 ! It gives me chills! When I get into my somber modes I listen to this and Linda Perry's "It F**king Hurts" (her version at "Guitar Center"). I wish you would listen to her if you haven't! She started as the singer for 4 Non Blondes,, and as soon as I heard her voice,, I knew she was going to be a success in the music field! Her song Letter to God, that she performed on the the TV show ''The Talk" with Sharon Ozbourne, was a really emotional performance that I also wish you would get a chance to see as well!! But, she does many songs that I believe doesn't touch the range she is able to reach, very low key I believe for a woman that has the gift to grab someone with her raspy, blues style belt when she wants!! And, I have to take a minute to really applaud your mention and reach out for those in need of mental help! I am a retired cop who was on a crisis intervention unit! The amount of people who really can't handle stress, depression, and anxiety, along with negative traumatic instances in their life, is an unbelievable number! It has even taken a toll on myself many many times being there with them in my attempt to be a band-aid until I tried to get them to the help they needed! And I like to thank you for that moment of caring and help you offered in this video!!

The first song I’ve ever really fallen in love with - Chris evolved as an artist over the years and Soundgarden has been in my life since the 90s - this song in particular, just kills me - for so many reasons.

Nobody could sing with emotion like Chris he had a way to put himself into every song like no other it way have been he's downfall in the end the fact he was so raw all the time may have been bad for him in the long run but is why he's sounds so amazing

I wish he could have found peace he sought here with us and his family. He truly was one of the most amazing vocalists ever IMO.
Excellent analysis and very respectful way of tying BetterHelp into the conversation. I was fortunate to see him in concert 4 times - once with Soundgarden in 2011, twice on his solo acoustic tours, and on the Temple of the Dog 25th anniversary tour 6 months before his death. The power and the pain in his voice is what has drawn so many to his music for years.
Please consider doing more reactions with his singing in the future! My top recommendations would be Soundgarden - “Outshined,” Temple of the Dog - “Call Me a Dog,” or his song “When I’m Down.”

No, it's a Prince song, that Sinéad covered. For once, the cover became a LOT more popular than the original he did with The Family.
I know it’s a tough decision for creators to start accepting sponsorships, but you do everything on this channel thoughtfully and authentically and I think that’s reflected in the choice of sponsor, the relevance to the video, and the presentation. It’s a new thing and that can be jarring for some people, but I know you will continue to lead by example in how to do such things right.
It was jarring for me to have the sponsor ad right in the middle of the song. I love this performance so much and was looking forward to Elizabeth reacting to it.
