I didn't expect to be in my feelings, but I was lowkey touched by the bit where you found the lid to the toilet tank, brushed it off, and put it back. Maybe there wasn't any emotional force behind it, but in a way, you humanized the situation. It's not a dump, it was a home. Somebody lived there, and probably died there, and these are their things. Sure, it's mostly trash now, but watching you do little things like take the sheets off the bed makes me wonder if this is, in a way, giving closure to the previous owner (who presumably is dead, or long gone).
Honestly...spent my entire life cleaning up after my mom who I then found out had early on set dementia mixed with manic depression. She's an amazing woman/badass..but I could never figure out why we had to live the way we did....Life can do things to the most beautiful creative and lovingly sensitive people on the Earth! We have to strengthen and protect our sensitive people! They prize things beyond the material. They don't understand the "machine". THEY ARE PURE GOLD AND NEED TO BE SEEN AS SUCH! I'm not saying baby them or anything....just notice a sensitive person when you see them and invigorate them rather than exhaust them! Fast forward from my confused adolescents years to middle late 20's...I'm a full time cleaner now and REALLY enjoy making spaces feel welcoming! There is so much behind the mind and our internal as well as external presence that shows where we are at in life...I love giving people a chance. Even if they aren't able to keep it up to the standard you left it...even if you have to keep coming back to help them feel human again. The feeling of love is so rewarding...the feeling of trying to give someone a space that is respectable and loving whether they are aware of it or not is just SO REWARDING!
I got into a car accident a long time ago and now can't hardly lift a book. My cleaning lady, well, you have no idea, you can't imagine, how much she means to me. She is honest (I had a lady from the Punjab, I think she had just grown up with different values who broke my heart what she stole.) And my lady now is good-natured and she leaves my places just so happy-making. I think we ought to bang some pans for cleaners too.
Two word horror story: carpeted bathroom. I hope the person who once lived here is at rest now, it is hard to be forgotten about and have your possessions build up around you. That oven is awesome! I hope you can save it.
I have to say this was intriguing to watch. So many items you removed that could easily make it to the homeless shelters. The pots/pans and all the clothes and such can easily be cleaned, sanitized and really needy people would love to receive any of it. Books, paper recycled, even the appliances can be reworked, cleaned, sanitized and used again. Sure they are not new modern versions. But some people would still love to get them for their use... Thumbs Up!
I was wondering who could have possibly lived like that, and then I saw the army diploma and aaah of course it's a veteran, and then it just felt sad cause so many end up with severe mental illness moving to the woods or desert :(
Alejandra Cerda so sad 😞 the answer to who could have possibly lived like this is almost always - people with severe mental illness or people who are too ill/ frail to look after themselves and who have no one to help them 😞 it breaks my heart 😢
I appreciate the fact that you seem to at least handle things carefully and go through them a little...instead of just raking it into a giant dumpster. It seemed respectful....so I am looking forward to more videos and will subscribe.
Even if you aren't a horder it kind of puts into perspective how much of your stuff will in reality be mostly thrown away or donated. A lot of things we keep are only valuble to us and someone else will probably just throw it away once we are gone. It has motivated me to only keep things I really love and not let stuff and things burden me because in reality I'm the only one attached to those things and I shouldn't have to feel bad about letting things go of things that no longer serve a purpose.
Hi, I see this video is 2 years old. I just found your channel. For someone so young, you are amazing. You go girl, and don’t ever let rude comments change who you are, some people are so unhappy and judgmental because they don’t have courage to try anything different. Keep up your dream, love the grand piano and your little chipmunks,
This place must have been quite a bargain to take on a project like this. I highly recommend you get an ozone machine on Amazon and use that a few times to kill any mold mildew, critters, etc.that could be left behind and not visible to the human eye.
This popped up on my recommended and I got so excited to watch part two before realizing I'm actually watching as they're being released for once. Most definitely will be subscribing so I don't miss the rest of this renovation!!
I was recently involved in the clean-out of a family member's squalor apartment and honestly don't think that, no matter how clean it might be one day (the biohazards are gone, but it's still filthy), I could ever sleep there. God Bless those who clean these places out for a living!
This is an old house and they used to have carpet in the bathroom my Grandma had carpet in her bathroom and it wasn't really weird until recently I mean people didn't get water on the floor like they do now you know like you put something over the top of the carpet when you step out of bathtub and stuff like that plus treated the bathroom more like a powder room. My grandma loves stepping out onto carpet after a bath she used to tell me how my mom's bathroom with no carpet was just too cold
I could be wrong but there was a time when that house was better. Just from the stove and the kitchen stuff, there was someone who cooked and put lace curtains up and then things changed and it went topsy turvy. Anyhow, I applaud Jessup and all for tackling this mess and wish her luck. Looking forward to better times for the property. Needs a good saging ceremony.
I hope those books -especially the old crafting books - went to the equivalent of a charity shop over there; there's a lot of people who love doing vintage craft projects! It's a weird niche, but one where we love getting old craft books even if they're a bit natty. There's probably people who'll buy some of the vintage adverts he collected online, too - not my thing, but I see stuff like that on eBay sometimes. Of course, just listing anything possibly collectable/sell-able on eBay would probably take forever! I think there's curio collectors who'd like the eye-chart... At least in some of the metal trash there's the raw materials to upcycle it into something nice.
I also hope she leafed through the pages on the books before donating or throwing them out. People put all kinds of things in the pages of books, including money.
It's so satisfying watching a place go from absolutely gross and be changed into something much more beautiful. Can't wait to see what you do with the place! Congratulations on your new place!!
This is sad. Someone's life reduced to nothing. Someone apparently struggled with caring for themselves. I hope if they died, they weren't alone and if they moved on, they got help. Looking forward to the renovation. Nicely done.
@Thornback I mean, there were multiples of certains objects (some even unused) and multiple piles. I think it can still be considered hoarding, even if it isn't completely blown out like we see in some shows.
I'm in process of renovating my own tiny house that was like a hoarder house literally filled with trash and dog poo and urine from 5 pitbulls that lived there. Glad to see someone else as determined as I am to turn a poo house into a livable space. You are incredible!
It would be incredibly sad to have to do that. To throw away everything that someone’s life amounted to. I know there’s no choice and it’s no fault of your own. It’s just a very sad result of a sad life. I pray this project will bring new life, new joy, new memories of a fulfilled life!
I'm a general contractor in california and every few months I do some work for a client who works with family trusts after an elder has deceased/gone into a home. I get called in whenever there is a hoarder and they need some dumping done as well as minor repairs to get the house in sellable condition. Usually my client and her helpers do all of the bagging/cleaning and we just take it to the thrift store and dump. Last year we had an INSANE job in a multimillion dollar home, absolutely packed to the gills with trash and possessions. We estimated about 20,000 magazines were hauled away. There was just about every item that had been offered on QVC from the 90s-00s in boxes. We went through 18 40 yard trailers of just trash, I don't even remember how many trailers of thrift store runs. Was about 4 months of work. This is giving me bad flashbacks lol!
During Katrina, a family donated 25 trash bags of clothing that had belonged to their grandmother. She was old, very, very obese, and she did nothing but order clothes from off the TV. As it turned out, the clothes were in excellent shape and we served numbers of very obese women from Louisiana who ran from the hurricane at the last minute with nothing.
I like the fact that she started by letting in the natural light from all the windows 😷😷😷 Oh the power of clean, duck tape, celebration dancing etc. 👍👍👍
As a veteran, I did not find showing Joaquin Ayala's name as disrespectful. Ignore the hateful comment. I am sure that Mr. Ayala would be pleased to know that someone so caring is restoring something that somehow went wrong. Keep your head up, young lady. You are doing great! I've done that work before and it is difficult on so many levels.
If they had taken the time to read the description they would see that he hasn't lived in this house for at least 5-10 years. There have been squatters etc . So in no was was this disrespectful to the Staff Sargent. She happen to find something imo that would have been important and showed it.
It’s nice to see she has a method to her cleaning, etc. so many videos showing people cleaning out a hoarder house, they just climb over stuff looking for the treasure....drives me nuts.
I did a little digging, and it looks like you have a vintage (1960s-70s) GE/Hotpoint electric stove on your hands! They seem to be popular with restorers, and older appliances like that are workhorses. I would absolutely invest some time into what could be an awesome centerpiece in the kitchen.
In case anyone's curious like me, I googled the name on the American Legion certificate (Joaquin Ayala) and found an obituary from March of this year, so my guess is the Uyedas picked this up via a deceased estate sale or similar. If it's the same guy then I assume he bailed on the property years ago to go live with family, and the obit sounded like he was well-loved, so there's that.
To everyone saying that this isn't a hoarder's house, Hoarding Disorder (it's an actual medical disorder) does generally present itself with mass gathering and keeping of trash and unused/unusable things, but large volume is not the only sign. Some of the other key indicators are: -Unusable beds/furniture due to clutter -Objects and trash filling sinks and bathtubs -Dirty food preparation surfaces -Not cleaning rodent/pest droppings/nests -Misplacing important items/documents in clutter All of this is displayed in this house.
You are an amazingly energetic person whom cleans like a boss. Just a thought, the house you are cleaning dose not appear to be a Hoarder's house. It is a house which the person has no self worth, not necessarily someone whom has a fear of loss. Basically Filth dose not equal hoarder, hoarding is a mental illness and should not be linked to occasions it is not the cause of but YES sometimes hoarders do end up living in filth which is very sad.
Carpeting in a bathroom, just absolutely horrid! Thank you for respecting the previous tenant by capturing their American Legion Cert. I wish for you all to stay healthy.
Person living there must have been a veteran. The books etc kind of tell you that. I liked that old stove especially the two ovens. You should see if it could be refurbished. That was a nice old cast iron tub too.
I was looking for cool cleaning videos and I found the coolest most bad ass looking woman?! I'm super glad I stumbled upon your channel. The gods of the algorithm are good 🙃☺️
It’s not so much a hoarder’s house as the home of someone who just could not cope with his daily life for a very long time. It’s sorta sad how you can see the aging and disability of a man in the layers. All the black mold and rat/mouse evidence makes me really glad you used the mask and gloves... so yeah , plenty of trash, but sure hope some of those clothes went to donation. Lots of vintage keepsakes, but it took some work to find things. Thanks for sharing your work adventures with us - inspiring!
Thank you for showing compassion and maturity, and for not being another holier-than-thou ignoramus who has nothing to contribute but "ewwww!" or "I could never live like this, how hard is it to just clean up?" None of us know what limitations life may have in store for us, now, or as we age x
Good job. Personally, I would light a match because of all the mold everywhere. You don't know how deep it goes, maybe right into the structure itself. There may still be some mold left even though you can't see it and you think you got rid of it. So you will paint over the walls or put some wallpaper over it - and you will breathe it for years. It is really dangerous.
Couldn't agree more. For only 700 Sq ft on such a huge lot, it seems much quicker to just tear it down and get to rebuild exactly what you want since you're gonna go all the way down to studs anyway
You can always combat this by soaking certain areas with some mold spray, paint over it with a special primer that contains particles like mold spores, and have frequent ozium treatments (it basically zaps all the "bad" ions in the air, which also kills of bacteria, mold, and odor particles). It definitely doesn't help with mold in the structure but it's a pretty good way to deal with it short term.
Can’t quite fathom how much work this was for you and you did it so respectfully. Loved all the editing and fourth wall breaks. Subscribed, love your personality and your creativeness. Perfect relaxing watch. Go and get it lady
I'm disappointed that they didn't share the background story. Like how did this house end up like this. What happened to the owner. What are they going to do with all the stuff....
Joaquin was born on June 10, 1932 and passed away on Wednesday, February 16, 2011. Joaquin was a resident of Joshua Tree, California. I found that info in the internet
My comment is: You should have sorted the trash it to a manner it would be reused, recycled (papers, glass bottles, plastics, metal, wood etc). You might find it easy to reuse some of it for outdoor purpose...
Jess this helped me find the guts to get my own hoarded house. Seriously, watching your videos was great mental prep for the work - thanks for showing everything!
Also, you should be making a pile for all metals and all old wood! You could get a ton for all of that metal if you recycle it. That includes old pans etc. All good scrap! PLEASE PUT SOMETHING IN THE HOLE (a large empty cup) of that toilet! You're letting all of the septic gases out into your house.
The art books. The male model reference book using the Marlboro man. how to paint textiles. It's the old home of a artist (shout out to Joaquin Ayala!), and the new home of an artist. Looking forward to the next installment of El Abode de la Artistas.
🖤there are books strewn about the property on how to work with electronics, photography, glass blowing... you name it! i love knowing that the previous occupant was a DIYer
@@Ashloooo Unless papers and cardboard are completely soaked through, it's recyclable. Glass and metals get melted. Clothes are broken down to their fibers and cleaned. And if nothing is put into the recycling system, it certainly will just stay in landfills, or buried. There's a point where people and businesses need to recognize their responsabilities when it comes to trash.
Exactly what i was thinking shes even putting books with clothes and ...I am kind of lost I watched another cleaning channel @cleaningavangers and I loved them
Thank you!!! Just what I was thinking all the time. I liked the video but was sad to see everything putting together. I understand these tv-shows about extreme hoarders and time is very limited but in this case it would have been easier sort out paper, textiles, plastic etc.- even a little bit. It would not matter if cardboard has mice poo in it. It is still recyclable.
Absolutely love this video! "Happened upon" your channel and this video brought back so much memories as I did this type of clean out work for almost 7 years. It was hot, dirty, infested, and unlivable to say the least, but I always tried to remember, someone lived in this house once which helped me not to be disrespectful of items of importance! The satisfaction at the end of the clean out was pure joy! I'm excited to see more of your videos; love your energy and vision! Aloha from the 50th State! 🤙 -Luka
To those commenting about “good stuff” being thrown out, please! This is not a home that you would want to share the items as you don’t know what’s been in contact with any of it. For example, you find an old pan, you have no idea what it could have been used for, or what was ever kept within. And definitely NOTHING from a bathroom.......eee-oooo! I wouldn’t want some poor soul to be affected by anything that could have any harmful past to it. Really......think about it.
Last place I cleaned out filled 2 30 yard dumpsters of trash. One 30 yard dumpster of metal and another cargo van full of broken electronics. I feel your pain. Amazing what these people can do to a house.
The house was "abandoned" years ago and squatters took over. Don't automatically blame the former owner. He could have kept the place emaculate before he passed away. for all we know.
My mother in law is a hoarder.. they do cleanups like this and she started my hoard.. when we got our house we didn’t have anything so she would bring truck loads to ‘see what we could use’… there boxes in my garage with family portraits of people I have never known or laid eyes on.. even a receipt book that looks to be from child support.. like they documented every penny that was given and for what.. and I mean every penny.. and other random stop.. they promised to come back and take what I didn’t want away.. but it’s been years and nothing.. I’m not with their son anymore so they could care less
I watched all your videos today, and I am blown away! You are a scrappy gal and I applaud you and what you are doing! It has motivated this old lady to get off her butt and clean out her spaces. Keep up the good work and I love Gary and the little house you made for him. Happy New Year to you and Gary. 🥰😎🥳🥳🥳
@@boxingzorket in my 1860 Belgium house i bought in Januar 2020, there is dark brown carpet on the walls behind the bath and pale carpet on the other walls. That crunchy carpet removal in the bathroom was horrifying and also the best part.
Okay but why is no one commenting on the editing style, it's literally so dope!
some of the stuff you showed like the books and notes and Polaroid were so cool, I love collecting vintage things
This might be the cleanest hoarder house I've ever seen. I wish the jobs we got at work were this tidy.
I dont really know thst id call this a hoarder as much an unorganized person. He had some interesting collections
It’s nice to see she has a method to her cleaning, etc. so many videos showing people cleaning out a hoarder house, they just climb over stuff looking for the treasure....drives me nuts.
This was sooooo satisfying! I also find it hilarious that Americans think this is a tiny house ;D
Yay, the bathroom is bigger then a tiny house XD
Ikr😂
Lol most tiny houses and i am american are barely bigger than a school bus
Some tiny homes are smaller then school buses
And you cant let a tiny house get dirty or you wouldent be able to walk
I love the antique items, I hope most was saved/salvaged.
I did a little digging, and it looks like you have a vintage (1960s-70s) GE/Hotpoint electric stove on your hands! They seem to be popular with restorers, and older appliances like that are workhorses. I would absolutely invest some time into what could be an awesome centerpiece in the kitchen.
Everyone should be rewarded for Cleaning up homes like this.
Thank you for your research. My heart was breaking.
Good job! Thank you for this
Can we just appreciate her hardwork👏👏
To everyone saying that this isn't a hoarder's house,
Hoarding Disorder (it's an actual medical disorder) does generally present itself with mass gathering and keeping of trash and unused/unusable things, but large volume is not the only sign. Some of the other key indicators are:
-Unusable beds/furniture due to clutter
-Objects and trash filling sinks and bathtubs
-Dirty food preparation surfaces
-Not cleaning rodent/pest droppings/nests
-Misplacing important items/documents in clutter
All of this is displayed in this house.
the pink drainboard sink
You are an amazingly energetic person whom cleans like a boss. Just a thought, the house you are cleaning dose not appear to be a Hoarder's house. It is a house which the person has no self worth, not necessarily someone whom has a fear of loss. Basically Filth dose not equal hoarder, hoarding is a mental illness and should not be linked to occasions it is not the cause of but YES sometimes hoarders do end up living in filth which is very sad.
Ray, you are correct. I'm a professional organizer/declutterer. Hoarding is a psychological pathology with a definition. This is NOT a hoarder house.
Carpeting in a bathroom, just absolutely horrid!
Thank you for respecting the previous tenant by capturing their American Legion Cert. I wish for you all to stay healthy.
That was such a cool find!
a treasure, to be sure. i have a little stash of mementos from the previous occupant
Person living there must have been a veteran. The books etc kind of tell you that. I liked that old stove especially the two ovens. You should see if it could be refurbished. That was a nice old cast iron tub too.
She found a veterans certificate somewhere in the kitchen. Good inference though!
I love your content. Knowing that you're completing tasks like this with ADD makes me feel like I can do anything. Thank you 🥰
I've never understood carpet in the bathroom....? Why?!?!
maybe he was an old man and we was afraid to fall on the floor
It was a thing back in the days, why i have no idea
It was some ugly trend for some reason. I saw a couple normal size homes that had this. It's really weird
Ugh! Hon, I have to admire your determination and drive. I honestly think I would have just burned the place down. But I'm kinda lazy that way. LOL.
Don’t get rid of the claw foot tub. That’s worth a shit ton and it’s awesome.
exactly what i was thinking
She’s not
I was looking for cool cleaning videos and I found the coolest most bad ass looking woman?!
Salute to her patience
Credit where credit is due, I do this for a living and you stuck at it till the end and got your hands dirty
Well done from the UK
I find this type of video very satisfying because I love decluttering. Music at first was ok but love the smooth jazz.
Lots of vintage ephemera (magazines, books, etc)I hope they didn’t throw it away! A crafter Artist 😊
Those Esquire magazines would be pretty cool. And that Native American picture. It looked like they were separating a few things.
Enjoyed the clear out but not the music! 😫😁❤️
G'day, kiranmahilange9! Other channels like Midwest Magic Cleaning and Aurikatariina tell about the homeowners' situations and stories.
Please be careful with all that black mold everywhere. That stuff can kill you (not to mention what lurks in the rat poo).
i'm so upset that i found the first video and not the last so now i can't binge this transformation i gotta wait
Lauren MacWhinney ditto!!!
It starts of as funny but then as it goes on and on I feel sadder and sadder. The bathroom nearly made me cry.
Joaquin was born on June 10, 1932 and passed away on Wednesday, February 16, 2011.
Joaquin was a resident of Joshua Tree, California.
I found that info in the internet
Woahh 😮😮
After seeing the first 5 minutes, I’ve subscribed. I definitely wanna see phase 2 and 3 and . . . .
Me too
My comment is: You should have sorted the trash it to a manner it would be reused, recycled (papers, glass bottles, plastics, metal, wood etc). You might find it easy to reuse some of it for outdoor purpose...
When you have that much work to do, you do it the fastest way you can!🥴
Jess this helped me find the guts to get my own hoarded house.
@@ijessup how cool is that? are you a DIYer too?
I'm a bit confused, everything goes in the same trashbag? There's no recycling paper, cardboard, glass, aluminium, magazines, etc?
Not everything is recyclable, especially if it has who knows what on it. But also depending on where you live theres mixed recycling
Exactly what i was thinking shes even putting books with clothes and ...I am kind of lost I watched another cleaning channel @cleaningavangers and I loved them
I wouldn’t, at least not the cardboard. Been infested with mice.
🤙 -Luka
The rats in the warming drawer were living like kings I'm sure!
That claw foot tub is worth a big chunk of cash if restored. Besides the gun, everything else looked like junk.
Last place I cleaned out filled 2 30 yard dumpsters of trash. One 30 yard dumpster of metal and another cargo van full of broken electronics. I feel your pain. Amazing what these people can do to a house.
One thing, always look through the pockets of clothes. Many times I have found money and jewels hidden in clothes hanging in the closet.
The house was "abandoned" years ago and squatters took over. Don't automatically blame the former owner. He could have kept the place emaculate before he passed away. for all we know.
ok but the mismatched shoes is such a look
idk y but im in luv with the way this was filmed and edited. and she is very charismatic. new fav channel
The stove is really cool and the polaroid and some other findings. The house was like a time machine, taking u back to the 50-60’s i assume
LOL! More like 70s and 80s. Some of the books were older. But most of that stuff was from the s 70s and 80s.
I feel like these jobs would turn me into a bigger hoarder, I see so many things I would have kept 😆
I'm glad i'm catching you at the beginning of your journey, that's going to be amazing. Count me as a follower!
thank you! 🙆🏽♀️
I watched all your videos today, and I am blown away! You are a scrappy gal and I applaud you and what you are doing! It has motivated this old lady to get off her butt and clean out her spaces. Keep up the good work and I love Gary and the little house you made for him. Happy New Year to you and Gary. 🥰😎🥳🥳🥳
Randomly found you and your brothers channel and you both gained a sub straight away! very cool project. stay safe
this was so satisfying! cant wait for the next parts ❤ i just hope some of the stuff can still be of use and be recycled or sold
Why on earth would one have a carpet floor in the BATHROOM?!
when first buying home and doing walkthroughs of others, yep carpet in bathroom - so gross!
It used to be a "thing". In the 70's - we carpeted everything. Including our car dashboards!! Gross!!
Hello alex
@@boxingzorket in my 1860 Belgium house i bought in Januar 2020, there is dark brown carpet on the walls behind the bath and pale carpet on the other walls. I leave it there untill i have money to make the new bathroom upstairs. I am from the adjacent country of the Netherlands and i had never seen carpet on the walls before. One of the people who lived here said that the whole village came to look to the super modern bathroom. In live in the Battle of the Bulge area.
Belgiums even put white wallpaper on the ceiling. In the Netherland its mostly stuc (plaster).
Saw the words CLEAN OUT and HOARDERS and I INSTANTLY SUBSCRIBED!!!🙌🏽
I hope your keeping that bathtub. They don't makes tubs like that anymore and they last many lifetimes if taken care of properly. Love all the vintage stuff. Hope maybe you can reuse some of the stuff like that stove was awesome.
Am i the only one who liked the oven? It'll be such a waste to throw such an old beautiful and in such great state oven
14:00 nothing like finding a random gun to make your day brighter :)
