Great batrep! I’ve noticed that after you wipe a unit you just leave everything but I’m almost positive you can overrun and/or reform after wiping out all the models of a unit
If your cannons are on the crest of the hill, then your gunners will be "further down the hill" as long as they're still on the actual hill, they won't be blocking line of sight. At least that's how I understand it.
2 Engineers with this arti setup is crisp, it drops the chances of an early misfire on cannon only turns from 13% to 1.6%, and with the helblaster shots you go from 28% to 67% chance to be able to use the Engineers BS
Cannonball bounce and things not in LOS. You are not allowed to target something blindly, thus you can't target the rats (inside the woods) but pick a range that would optimize the targeting against the rat ogres (behind the woods). That said, the rat ogres can still get hit if you roll high enough. You're also not allowed to pick any target point that could potentially hit a friendly unit (or a melee IIRC), and you of course need to have LOS to your target point and intended target The WLC works differently, just like the "Zap line" spell that Orks and Brets have. You just pick a direction, it zaps its line there and doesn't need to have any target. It hits every model under the line (not just one per rank like a cannonball), including friendlies. It's not covered in this edition, but in prior lore they were explaining this capacity (and its ignoring armour save) by the use of warp energy tearing through reality and fancy magical optics to see through obstructions.
Unfortunately it seems that at least some tournaments rule that if you have LOS with a cannon to the point on the ground you're 'targeting' (you can't actually hit it as you always overshoot, but that's by the by) then you can do what you like (other than shooting your own troops or into combat as that's been FAQ'd). That's what I've been told anyway, so it's probably something worth checking beforehand if playing in events. I think you should pick the direction of the WLC before rolling for the distance though the limited rules for it could be more explicit. Of course you could do a lot of measuring before picking your direction if you wanted to so in games like this one I don't see it as a problem whichever way round they do it.
I'm curious if we'll see knights run in your army at some point. I feel like (in my understanding of real knights, maybe the rules don't reflect this) they'd give your army some extra utility. They are quicker than infantry so they can be redeployed quickly, they would be fairly tough compared to infantry, and on a charge they would be super lethal. And probably cheaper than a steam tank allowing for more units on the table in general. But if the rules make em trash I can understand not using em. All the same love the Bat Reps, best Channel for Old World in my opinion, keep it up!
Warp-lightning cannon sure can shoot through the forest. No LoS needed. In fact it seems it can shoot through everything as noting can stop the line. Except models in combat - it can’t shoot those for some reason…
I’ve been trying to crack the skaven code to see what works and imho it’s screaming x2 3 25 man clan rats 3 rattling guns 2 engineers 2 units 5 jezzails 4 rat ogres and a few ambushing giant rats given me my only good games and victories. 10 jezzails also can melt a unit if your lucky 🤷
Gutter runners, when piloted better then I did in this game, are good, rattling guns and Greyseers also. I have incredible luck with my helpit so that too I guess 😂
I feel like Old World 2 definitely needs to let direct fire weapons like Handguns and Crossbows fire in two ranks. Infantry shooting just can't do enough damage to be viable without massed shots, and even with 10 wide hand gunners you're not likely to get a wound.
Also, wouldn't the Skaven immediately revert to skirmish formation after the Hellblaster FBIGO'd and therefore be able to line up along the width of the cannon into which they pursued?
Thanks for this, it was my first time using this gutter runner swarm idea, and with the Skirmishers rules being how they are I can happily say, I have no idea 😂 so you're probably right, I've been trying to get better at piloting them since this was recorded?
@@reel839 Have a feeling that Mordian is right that they have to end a combat phase not in combat in order to go back into skirmish formation to do this. So the Skaven player to get out of his conga line needed to restrain after winning a combat. This would have been very risky after the hellblaster combat as it was Empire turn next so he would have got shot by something, but he really should have tried to do it after killing the first cannon as it was his turn next. After he killed the second cannon I think things went a bit awry anyway as they should have become skirmishers again before charging the wizard.
not many shots and a ton of -ve modifications to hit. His 1st volley should have been at -4or-5 to hit ffs (move -2, long range -1, light or heavy cover -1/-2) RAW it's almost impossible not to get some cover if you overlap slightly

These comments about "Rules in tournaments" vs "We're having a nice game" is why I never went to WFB tournaments.

Dunno if the Vagabonds can afford services of Knights.
Also dunno if Knights want to associate with the Vagabonds.

Sadly more like Pike or Shot. I shall never forgive GW for not implementing actual pike and shot formations in their ostensible pike and shot faction.
