Amy Schumer jokes about Will Smith, Chris Rock Oscars 2022 slap | Page Six Celebrity News

  • Oscars host Amy Schumer eased the tension at the 2022 Oscars with a joke following Chris Rock being slapped by Will Smith during the award show.
“I’ve been getting out of the Spider-Man costume, did I miss anything?” the comic, 40, questioned sarcastically, receiving laughter from the audience and kudos from fellow stand-up Tiffany Haddish.
“There’s, like, a different vibe in here. Probably not. Well, anyway!” she added before moving on to jokingly call Kirsten Dunst a “seat filler.”
The incident occurred when Rock cracked a joke at Jada Pinkett Smith’s expense, comparing the actress to “G.I. Jane” because of her bald head.
Pinkett Smith, 50, looked furious as Smith approached Rock, 57, and smacked him across the face. Censors then turned on and muted Rock and 53-year-old Smith’s exchange as the Oscar winner repeated, “Keep my wife’s name out of your f-king mouth.”
During the commercial break, Smith was comforted by Denzel Washington and Bradley Cooper, and moments later won the award for Best Actor for “King Richard.”

He was emotional - that can make you angry and make you cry, sometimes both things at one time. If you watch the clip of him also when he shouts at Chris Rock afterwards, from his seat, you can see he only just avoids crying for real.
You can decide for yourself that it is all acting, but it is not inconsistent.

@@cnj67 I believe Will was on jada's red table talk recently saying how emasculated he felt about the affair his wife was having with some kid.
I couldn't understand his overreaction to Chris's joke here - assaulting someone on live tv in front of an international audience of millions - surely the intelligence that got you to the top of your chosen career would give you pause for thought.
But then I heard about his emasculation and it all made sense. He will do whatever it takes to be the person jada wants him to be, even live tv assault. And it seems he's got away with it. I hope their relationship continues to flourish. I wonder what's next?

Amy was great, as well as Chris Rock who deserves a standing ovation for his professionalism and grace after the assault. Will Smith just tainted his big moment by acting appallingly inappropriate at the Oscars. He should be banned from returning since he cannot control his anger. He should be embarrassed for his outrageous action which was absolutely uncalled for.

So I am going to take a whole different approach to this.
As a woman. I feel Jada turned the switch on Will last night.
As you see Will Is laughing and bright. And her face is just pure annoyance. I do understand she lost her hair due to a condition and it is a sensitive topic. However, once the camera was off of them I feel she scorned Will for laughing and may have insulted him.
She already has this man in a sensitive space because of her entanglement and saying how she is unsatisfied sexually by him. To me it seems Will felt like he had to stand up for Jada so that he can be seen as valuable and that he doesn’t look weak in her eyes.
Sadly on the contrary he looked even weaker and more broken. Her face after the slap was of enjoyment at the cost of her husband’s wild behavior.
And now he will be a meme again all over a woman who doesn’t truly seem to respect him.
I am loosing all respect for Jada. Especially as a woman you are supposed to help your man elevate and stay a positive course and she seems to be bringing him down

    • @cjay233

I kinda agree. You never know both sides of a story, e.g., Will possibly, potentially abusing her, and if that is true, I'm against that. Too, nothing to say she can't leave him. But, if she is doing this because she wants to be in the limelight and is not, then she is going to drag her family down.

People were comforting HIM, let him stay, let him get the Oscar, let him DANCE basking in glory. He had the audacity and lack of remorse to dance.
    Nobody showed him the door.
