    Age has to do with how much you eat as well. Jill isn't a teenage male or a construction worker. She eats right for her age, gender, etc. I am eating a little less and less as I continue to lose weight. I've lost over 50 lbs and kept it off. Americans eat way too much. Europeans when they visit are surprised when they go to restaurants here. We are also having more of a weight problem because of this. My health has vastly improved. I'm on less than half the meds I was on just 3 years ago. I'm on track to be on less by the end of the year. That's not counting meds that I take less or half of than I was previously taking. If you cut down your food by 25% you would be surprised how much weight you lose. I have really enjoyed this series thanks ladies.

    I started eating my oatmeal each morning...I top it off with just applesauce.. the best part of that, is that my triglycerides went from 11 to 6. Dr asked me how I did that... that was the only change in my meal planning!

    Oatmeal every morning, no sugar, but fruit, nuts and seeds, top it off with yogurt. I am good to go until 1 p.m.

    when I couldn't afford to buy coffee I made use of the coffee fund at work. For $5 a month you could drink as much coffee as you wanted. I would be able to have coffee Mon - "Friday and because I volunteered to clean up the coffee area if there was coffee in the pot at closing time that went into a thermos and I was able to have coffee on the weekend. At home, I drank hot water - not great but the brain did not know but I was able to walk around with a cup of hot liquid. Now, for every cup of coffee I drink, I drink a cup of hot water. You do what you have to . Thank you for talking about food portion sizes - we seem to think that we just have to have two eggs and two pieces of toast when one of each is the meal.....

    Every day I eat the same thing for breakfast. One Carbmaster low carb yougart (40 cents at Kroger) with a small amount of walnuts and a few blueberries or what ever fruit I have on hand. Plain and simple.

    I'm from the south, so I do grits instead of oatmeal, with one scarmbled egg and some butter and salt and pepper in the grits (1/4 cup). Sometimes I like an english muffin with spun honey or a bagel with cream cheese, but they are on the expensive side compared to an egg and some grits.

    Looooooooove this video. Extremely helpful!! Thank you so much!!!!!i eat 1/8 cup of oats with 1 tbsp of chia and 1 tbsp of of flax. One egg, one small slice of avocado and one cup of coffee with a little coconut milk. Only one cup a day.

    I live in a suburb of Boston. I get 3 dozen eggs for 1.99 at Wegmans. I alternate between .55 cents for oatmeal with almond milk and blueberries and .11 cents for 2 large eggs.

    We have oatmeal every morning, the occasional eggs and toast or peanut butter toast.
    I leave an extra 1/2 cup measuring cup right in the oat canister so I can stay on track with serving sizes.

    The trick with eggs is to plonk them in water to see if they’re expired, they’ll float if they’re bad. We don’t store our eggs in the fridge here in the U.K., usually, but I do. So I keep them as long as I can and do the water test to make sure they’re still good.

      if your eggs are not washed after being collected they are good for at least 24 days on your counter . Then put them in the fridge and they are good for another 3 months. I have my own hens and I keep my eggs on the counter until used and if I forget how long they have been there I use your method to check them for freshness.

    Loved this video! I would love to see some videos with meals portioned on plates! Just listening to Jill talk about 1 egg being a serving size shocked me. My serving sizes are more for sure! It was helpful to me hearing that. I could visualize the difference in my head. I think visuals of several meals would be eye opening for me and others. I will for sure be more conscious in the future, not just because of saving money, but also weight loss is a huge goal for me.

    For oatmeL, what I do I cut in little sauares a half of an apple and add in a little water and boil them for a minute, to make them a little soft, then add the oatmeal and cook it as you like it, I do it in water, when cooked, I add sweetner, or sugar, a little milk and some cinamon. It is delicious. For tea, I add one bag to a little kettle and add one and a half cup of boiling water. I like to drink it with a little milk, this will give me two tea cups.

    Jill, on Monday morning my mom makes a pot of coffee and usually has a cup or so. She has a container that perfectly holds what’s left. Each morning she heats a cup in the microwave. Like you she eats enough without overdoing it. At 80 she has even said if I eat to much I start gaining weight. She eats a small breakfast a decent size lunch and her go to for supper every evening is 1/2 a cup of plain yogurt, a tablespoon of cool whip, a splash of milk, 1/4 cup of store brand high fiber cereal and some fruit mixed in. People don’t realize that the older you get your body doesn’t require the same amount of food it did when it was 20.

      Exactly ! As we age food needs to down but depends on the person , it have a lot muscle on you protein is key for each meal but keep it simple :)

    Hi Jill & Tawra I make a whole pot of coffee I drink one cup & I save the rest for the next day & usually have some leftover I pour into a ice cube tray & freeze when The weather is hot I make a iced coffee instead. I re-use the Coffee grounds & it usually makes 1/2 pot of coffee I also re-use the coffee grounds as a scrub for my skin or I mix a little yogurt (Fage’ Greek yogurt) with coffee grounds and pat on my face the coffee grounds are foliating my skin & after I leave on for 15minutes I rinse & pat dry or I leave my face damp let air dry I call it my Spa day & it’s cheap🤗🙃😀

    I cooked my oatmeal with flax seeds. I add some honey with it. Whole Foods sell oats for .98 /lb. So I load up. Sometimes I add sliced bananas. Super healthy.

      Do you buy ground flax or grind the seeds in a coffee grinder and keep in freezer as they go rancid otherwise? There's no nutrition ingesting whole seeds as they're not absorbed...just "in case" you didn't know. 🤗

      @@jennywu73 but better for you, I have to restart doing this. I had a dedicated coffee bean grinder that was used just for flax seed .. I started them first while getting water ready for oatmeal and they were finished before I needed them .. made the oatmeal taste a little nutty which was good. I would also add then on top of stews and salads.

    The best frugal recipe I've ever found was for a baked french toast casserole that called for saving all your stale bread, stale buns, hotdog buns, bread ends. Once you have enough stored in your freezer, you rip them up and place in a 9×11 casserole. Pour the egg mixture over. Add brown sugar, butter, cinnamon, nuts(optional) mix over top and bake. Feeds alot of people on scraps that many people would toss!

    Thank you, ladies! Before I started watching you I had such a fear of running out of certain foods that I would immediately go out and stock up. I would wind up broke and with a messy, overflowing pantry. Now I use everything up and I get aggravated when the fridge is stocked!

      figured out what it was costing me in gas to drive from our village to the nearest big city to shop, all I need for the next three weeks is milk for my cereal and coffee and spinach for my chickens. Called a neighbor who was heading into the city and she bought my two things. I am freezing most of the milk so it stays fresh and my chickens are supplying eggs so I am set and I have saved $19 on fuel.

I love a near empty fridge/freezer & pantry because it allows me to use my imagination to create delicious meals out of very little. My husband is the opposite & thinks it's normal to have an abundance of food in the house all the time 😣

    My little three year old nephew asked me for graham crackers broken up in a bowl with milk like cereal and of course I said no because I didn’t know what I was doing. He started shouting and let me know Grandma gave it to him. Well if my mom said it was ok it was gonna be fine with me too. 😀 Later I wondered how I ever thought it wasn’t a good idea.

    I'm in a different season of life - I am currently breastfeeding so I eat both oatmeal and two scrambled egg burritos (about two eggs total) for breakfast. The burrito format makes it easier to get breakfast in a timely manner while nursing. Otherwise eggs on a plate with a bit of salsa or hot sauce for flavor if I have it works great too. Totally agree about the can't/won't with oatmeal add-ins, etc. Great perspective, really appreciate the wisdom!

    Well I guess many many people can only see what they don't have and complain about it. Thats what I realy like about you. Zero pitty party.
    But honestly, there are days when I have leftover green beans fried with butter, basil and a little parmesan cheese for breakfast. Its delicious. Maybe not a traditional breakfast but very fast and easy to make. Be honest, you never would have known if I hadn't told you that. Nobody sees what you eat at home. If there are some leftovers from lunch or dinner and it's not enough to make an other lunch or dinner just have them for breakfast.

    One of my favorite dinners is a large can of Campbell's chunky version classic chicken noodle soup, $1.80 to $2.00 per can or less if on sale, with fresh cauliflower pieces added - simmered until cauliflower is tender. With a sloted spoon I put all of the ingredients in a bowl with only a bit of the broth which is "my" preferred way to eat it. Sprinkled with pepper. It is so good and makes 2 servings - 2 meals. Approx $1.00 per meal if soup purchased on sale. I love it.

    I love these videos! You give away the cookbook if people will just look. Thank you for that and thank you for all the help on frugal! I eat one egg a day with whatever left over meat I might have. I will add a little onion and cheese at times. Lately, I have been eating half a bagel that I got free from work. I put a little cream cheese or butter on it and maybe a little cheese. Throw in a little OJ and I'm set for the morning :)

    I do one of three breakfast's. First one is Oatmeal with Raisins and Cinnamon and for the sweeter I use honey, the second one is two eggs over easy and a slice of toast, and the third is cold cereal but only once in a blue moon, if I'm in a hurry and have very little time.

    My hubby makes “cowboy coffee” in a big pan on the stove (since quarantine started anyway) & each of us get our share of coffee for the day, then strain out the grounds in my little (reusable) metal pour over strainer 😂 & pour the extra coffee into mason jars for the next few days. He can reheat a cup in the microwave & I can have iced coffee in the morning for several mornings.... I love me some leftovers 😋😋😋😋

    During the winter I make only a half a pot.
    Summertime, I make a full pot and put the rest into the icebox for cool pick me ups throughout the hot day...

    I love this. Recently I went on the choosemyplate.gov site and plugged in my info to see what I SHOULD be eating (1800 cal/day). I was amazed at what my daily goals are (3cups dairy, 5oz protein, 6oz grains, 2.5 cups veggies and 1.5 cups fruit). It's a lot of food, but in several areas I'm eating too much. We eat waaaaay too much meat! 😱

    I never liked breakfast food for breakfast as a child which continued to adulthood so I don't think of certain foods as only for one type of meal. That said, some of the breakfast type foods I may eat for any meal is oatmeal and depending what I have on hand I put some frozen fruit in it (usually blueberries) or a small amount of nut butter (sunflower butter, almond butter, etc.) and usually pour some coconut milk on it. I eat a LOT of eggs fixed in various ways. For scrambled eggs I again put in whatever I have that appeals to me at the moment including sliced black olives, artichoke hearts, spinach, dill weed, paprika, etc. If I have some chicken left over, I may even have that for breakfast.

    Most of the time i skip breakfast because im so busy in the morning that when i finally sit down to eat its lunch time.
    If i do happen to eat breakfast--cold cereal w almond milk and coffee work for me.

    I usually have eggs for breakfast or peanut butter. I sometimes put the peanut butter on bread with jelly or honey. Or I will just have a spoonful out of the jar. Very simple. I usually have a piece of fruit too.

    I like an egg and toast, cereal, yogurt with fruit, French toast or pancakes, breakfast tacos (tortilla with beans and potatoes)... all inexpensive. We brew coffee at home.

    Sometimes for breakfast, I'll get a tablespoon of peanut butter and spread it on some crackers with a cup of coffee. Sometimes, I'll have an orange with it.

    I recently made pancakes with leftover pancakes put in freezer. I'm like Ms Jill I use less than the scoop and only brew 1-2 cups at a times ( in my old Mr coffee). I'm in ky and often eat fried egg and grits ( sometimes even for a light dinner).

    Oatmeal is a base for a hearty start of day. Raisins give you iron and a little sweeter taste and a splash of half and half gives fat and calcium. Order a Senior coffee at McDucks now and then for a dollar and ask for extra creamers with it for your oatmeal.

    This is called living within your means. If you fail to plan then plan to fail. Dave Ramsey. I agree that we overeat in this country but we also are a bunch of wasteful people. I know families that refuse to eat leftovers. They cook fresh food everyday and throw away the leftovers. That's a waste of time and money. I have a coworker that stops at McDonald's every morning for her cup of coffee just because it's a dollar for any size drink and she get's the large. How crazy is that? You can make a better cup of coffee for less than .25 cents. We are a country of over consumers.

    I like to eat a hearty breakfast. I will have bacon and pecan pancakes or (in cooler weather) sausage, grits, and toast with strawberry preserves. I do like eggs and will make omelets with peppers, onions, spinach, tomatoes, and a tiny bit of cheese. If I have leftover chicken or roast beef, I might throw a bit of that in my omelet, too. I like hashbrowns with an omelet. Breakfast is my main meal of the day. When the weather gets really hot and humid, I might have cereal with almond milk or a fruit plate. If I know I will be having lunch out (which is rare), I skip breakfast for an early lunch. I eat two meals a day and only one if I eat lunch out.
    Breakfast foods are really cheap. I would much rather cook my own. On the rare occasions when I have eaten breakfast out, I found the bacon wasn't crisp enough, the grits weren't cooked enough, the eggs were cooked too much, and it was all really expensive. I couldn't help but look at those eggs and grits and think of how cheap an egg or a serving of grits is when cooked at home. That's how so many hotels/motels can offer "free" breakfast for their guest. It cost pennies to purchase and prepare.

    One time our family of six had NO more money and needed one more breakfast. My husband always wanted a "normal" breakfast--no dinner leftovers, etc. We had about 10 slices of bread, some butter, and some pancake syrup; that was IT. Found a recipe called Vermont Toast, where you dip bread in the syrup (like French toast) and fry it. We had a little butter to put on it out of the pan. It was good and my husband never knew what a close shave that was ;)

    Egg and toast, Toast with butter, cinnamon and sugar. Make batches of pancakes, blueberry muffins, banana muffins or bread, zucchini bread or muffins - freeze extras and pull out single servings to microwave. Oatmeal.

    Thanks, ladies! Jill, you've given me an idea for breakfast with the Graham crackers. Sounds good with my (one) cup of coffee and I might put a bit of peanut butter on it. My splurge is 2 scrambled eggs and a piece of toast, but don't want it every day. Thanks for the video, I'll be watching for the lunch and dinner video!

      James O'Neal because of hearing about graham crackers for breakfast I tried it with butter, then with Nutella -since I had some. I do love graham crackers.

    I eat 1 large egg fixed however I want it that day with 2 slices of Canadian bacon and 1/2 and avocado.

    Just to add , a lot of older people don't eat a lot of food like as if they did in their 20s to 40, oaks I have maple syrup with it omg it's so yum

    When we were growing up, my grandpa would make fried oatmeal, oh so good! Cost effective and filling!

      @@notefromjan So my grampa would take leftover oatmeal and pour it into a greased breadpan, cover, refrigerate until your ready to fry it up.
      To fry, you just melt butter on the skillet like you would pancakes, slice the cold oatmeal into thin slices, I would say half inch or less, place in hot skillet and cook. The sides will get a nice crisp edge to them. The oatmeal takes longer to cook than a pancake, just to warn you. You want that nice crispy crust. Fried oatmeal has a nutty flavor. Great served with a dab of butter and syrup.

    I love Graham crackers with a little crunchy peanut butter . I eat two crackers w/ peanut butter and I save my coffee .I make oatmeal with raisins & b.sugar. Sometimes an egg with toast .I stay full too. I'm 73 & I eat well for a small amount. Thank you .

    You can take your leftover coffee and freeze them in ice cube trays and you can use the frozen coffee in your ice coffee. I love doing that. Also take the extra coffee put it in the fridge and warm it up the next day.

    Every morning I have two eggs with a bit of spinach and a sprinkle of cheese! It keeps me full also. My kids have oatmeal every morning with raisins on top.

    We (family of 7) eat fried rice with a carrot and an onion, a little bit of sauce to mix in. Sometimes add 1-3 scrambled eggs into it. Super cheap and easy.
    Sweet potato chili- We usually make a pot of chili using 1/2-1 lb ground beef. add an extra can of beans to fill cheaper, seasoning, a chopped sweet potato, and a tablespoon of brown sugar for fun lol it is so filling and tasty.
    Then for a lunch or dinner later you can bake sweet potatoes, cut in half and top it with the chili, sour cream or butter. Add a small salad if you want. Cheap and easy.
    German/Puff pancake- eggs milk and flour makes a whole breakfast with a little butter and sugar.
    Quesadillas- they don’t have to be fancy. Tortillas with cheese or even just some beans and a sprinkle of cheese or salsa are plenty.
    Lettuce wraps- rice, minced chicken, carrots, cucumbers, peanuts- whatever you have that you want to stuff some lettuce with works lol

    I spend 1200 a year , with 4 kids and we don't do with out. I have a large garden, I can do this as I shop only once a year and just buy fruit and milk and eggs extra

    There's a lot of things you can eat alone, buy a bag of potatoes and you can fix them lots of different ways. I love Baked Potatoes and I can eat JUST that and if it's a decent size, I'm FULL! They can be mashed, baked, boiled and fried. And if it's just you, a bag will last you. I love 'chives & butter' with mine but I don't HAVE TO HAVE those, only thing I need is SALT. (As a matter of fact, I even like potatoes RAW, lol!)

    If i eat breakfast its usually cereal w/ 2% milk or eggs (have friends that have own chickens and give me and other friends eggs..currently 3 doz. In fridge). Usually eat 2 meals a day if that. I do like a variety so if i have dif. Things vary my breakfast with oatmeal or grits and ham/bacon/sausage etc.

    This was great! The prices are right on. I will admit, wasting the leftover burnt coffee is something I'm guilty of.
    Found the channel Penny Pinching Granny, and she lives on a limited income as well. I love the breakdown of prices.
    One thing I'm not sure if you've covered...eating from your PA try and freezer, oh its a challenge. I stock up when the prices are right but then they sit there because usually "there's not enough to make a meal" .... how would you conquer that?

      I am not quite sure what you mean Manda but you might try checking what is in your pantry each week along with what is on sale then see what you need to buy to make the food you stocked up with work. With practice you can become creative for example the other day I was going to make lasagna, had the sauce made up and found out I had no lasagna noodles so I added chili powder to the sauce and changed to chili instead. I could have used macaroni instead with a little cheese and made a hamburger casserole. Try looking at what you have and think out of the box. I use to think I couldn't make a tossed salad unless I had lettuce, tomatoes and cucumbers but I soon found I could use radishes instead. if I didn't have tomatoes. I wouldn't make salad because I didn't have tomatoes. What was I thinking? :):)

      @@jillcooper172 well, for instance, I have a little of a lot of things, not much of anything. We are usually a family of 5 but many times 6. I just feel like I can never make a solid, cohesive meal with small parts of anything. I

      No Coral. If chicken and broccoli was on sale that week I would freeze the chicken. Then one night have chicken and broccoli, another night chicken , mashed potatoes, gravy, salad with lettuce, tomato from last week and some broccoli in it. Then the next night I would have hamburger meatballs that I had frozen with baked potato and carrot sticks from carrots I had bought 2 wks before. I have many things in my freezer and pantry that I mix and match with what is on sale for the week. Basically what I do is take the sales for the week and use them to supplement what I already have.

    1 egg and toast, French toast, Oatmeal with what ever I have at home (nuts, raisins apples etc) cereal, yogurt and fruit. What ever is in season and on sale! All with coffee or tea or just hot water. All very inexpensive stuff. And I’m gluten free!

    i drink coffee at work. At home have a capsule coffee machine, which is not supposed to be economic at all, but, if you buy bags of coffee and dont drink it before it looses its flavour, and you throw it away, that is a complete waste of money. I buy a pack of capsules every other month or so. I drink coffee for breakfast in the weekends, and when I have company. I guess I´m boring for breakfast. I always eat a slice of brown bread with butter and a little honey, with a glass of orange juice, before I rush out the door for work. Bread freezes well, and I just put the frozen slice of bread into the toaster. Havent done the math, but this is a really cheap breakfast.

    When I would take my Mom out (both of us in wheelchairs, so we used public transportation) she wanted dunkin coffee. I would get 1regular, and one Extra large empty ice coffee cup with ice. Also a cup of hot water. Family would get mad at us about this, oh and a lot of the little milk cups.
    Pour half the coffee in the water added the milk to both cups. Mom's was done. I would dump MY COFFEE in to my ice and if it needed it add more milk or water.Coffee went a long way in our house LOL

    Now I have never tried oatmeal in the big round box. I normally get the instant in a cup with brown sugar. I am going to try the round box. I do add raisins because I need fruit; but I really think these videos allows us to look at different ways and different attitudes and eliminating the word 'Can't' from our vocabulary.

    because of allergies, sensitivities, and dietary factors we eat odd. but not including my husband's soda which comes out of a different budget line I can feed my crew of 4 very very well on 400 a month. the only one with vitamin issues is me and it has nothing to do with food. I have pernicious anemia .auto immune and immune system disorders. even feeding a 6 ft 2 inch 14 yr old 275# ,born vegetarian son with sensory issues, ADHD, dyslexia, anxiety disorder, growth disorder. AND an 11 yr old son with sensory issues, cerebral palsy,, Autism and adhd. who is 4' 9" 70# who can out eat me. I tell you all this because these are excuses I have heard ppl say why they cant save money and eat well. my children/spouse/me have "special diets". I have teenagers boys. we also live 15 miles from stores,,wally and dillon's. we live 45 miles from a Sam's 9r aldi. so that excuse is out. I have taught the kids and husband that its wont not cant and to own it. not just in eating but in life. at one point we were a family of 10 living on 600 a month in groceries and no one went to bed hungry.. own your wont and find a work around.
