#pillowtalkderm #shereeneidriss #dermatologist #skincareroutine
1 - focus on your main skin problem
2 - wash face at night, apply sunscreen in day
3 - main issues= acne, pih, oily/ dry skin, environment shift ( understand the environment u living in)
4- cleanser = double cleansing with oil based cleanser / Micellar water then wash off with regular cleanser. If having active acne then wash off with cleanser having actives like benzoyl peroxide (panoxyl) Or a sulphur cleanser
2 - exfoliation = 7% glycolic acid by the ordinary
3 - mist = for people with dry skin but acne prone. Glycerin + rose water mixture.
4- serums = problem focused like niacinamide5% + zinc
5- retinols = type + percentage matters , consistency over intensity. No irritation is the key
6 - eye cream = moisturize with regular one and apply thin layer of Vaseline
7 - moisturizer according to your climate and skintype = byoma gel moisturizer
8 - sunscreen
To simplify it more cleanse, treat and protect
1-cleanser = oil based cleanser/micellar water, regular water based cleanser
2- treat = aha, bha, azelaic acid, retinoids ( for acne and pih )
3 - protect = moisturizers and sunscreen
The byoma gel moisturiser caused a lot of breakouts for me!
should we apply sunscreeen even if we dont go out? i mean at home is it necessary?
@@GoddessOfDeathh while outdoor apply every two hourly, while indoor there are 2 scenarios :
1- if u work/ sit by windows bcz uva light penetrate window glass
2- if you have skin conditions like acne melasma etc or any other condition which includes hyperpigmentation,in this case reapply after showering /swimming / Washing face
@@GoddessOfDeathh if you have windows yeah you should
UV rays will still penetrate through windows like it was already said, so yes wear it indoors.
But also understand that the less time you spend in the sun, the less you need to reapply sunscreen because the barrier that the sunscreen created between the sun and you is not breaking down as fast.
You pointed out the exact issues I’m tackling in my late 20s: acne, PIE, dryness. I’ve been heavily relying on your recommendations for more than a year and it made a world of a difference 🙏
What do you use?
@@victoriaalliaud7538 sorry for a lengthy text.
My current actives are:
- adapalene, tretinoin every night for acne (I started with Differin's adapalene, moved to Altreno, which Dr. Idriss mentioned in her videos. Altreno's super gentle compared to other tretinoin products. I also tried retinaldehyde (Medik8 Crystal Retinal 10). In my experience, if your concern is acne (mine started when I was 25, so hormones are involved), go for medical forms of retinoids like adapalane, as this did nothing for my acne (and was expensive), so I used it under my eyes for fine lines - retinal woks great for that);
- BHA 2 times per week for blackheads/sebaceous filaments, as retinoids alone could not make mine smaller (I use Paula's Choice 2% Liquid Exfoliant);
- vitamin C under sunscreen every morning (This one is optional for me, as the effects were not dramatic. My main concern is PIE after acne that takes around 6 months to fade (and sometimes old PIH, which does not fade on its own). I used Paula's Choice C15 Booster, then Paula's Choice Anti-Aging Super Antioxidant Concentrate Serum, and now I use RejudiCare 2CRM Sal with BHA and L-Ascorbic Acid. The last one made an actual difference and lightened PIE on my cheeks. No effects on old PIH, though. Dr. Idriss mentioned that to get rid of pigmentation you need multiple ingredients, vitamin C is not enough, but it boosts the sunscreen.
- sunscreen (Beauty of Joseon Relief Sun : Rice + Probiotic SPF50+ PA++++ and Skin1004 Madagascar Centella Hyalu-cica Water-fit Sun Serum are amazing).
Inactives:
- gentle cleansers: Bioderma micellar water + La Roche Posay Toleriane Cleanser;
- moisturizer (any will do, because I just need hydration): I currently use Ma:nyo
Bifida Biome Aqua Barrier Cream and La Roche Posay Cicaplast baume b5+ for dry patches of skin.
pie??? 🥧😃

I'm well into my 60s but I liked this advise. We did not have the products or science that we do now so, 20 somethings, consider yourselves blessed!
Totally 💯 agree, well into my 60’s here also and was a sun lover growing up in the 60’s living at the beach and not wearing sunscreen, 20 something ones have all the knowledge they need now to have lovely skin by the time they get to our age, it’s harder for us to reverse the sun damage without using really great medical grade skincare products that nothing over the counter really works and does what it needs to do…but one thing I’m grateful for is that I can afford the skincare and the sunscreen to Stop my skin from getting any worse…I now get compliments on my skin after putting in the time and money into my skincare without having any in office procedures done. Cheers to Our Generation ❤️❤️❤️🇦🇺
1. Cleanser
- bioderma micellar water - option to use spray then cotton
- vanicream - works well but kinda burns the eyes
- PaOxyl -Benzoyl peroxide - for active acne and oily skin a few times a week.let it sit for a while. Bleaching
- Sulfur cleanser - for extremely oily skin if benzoyl peroxide does not work for u
2. Exfoliate - lighter, 2-3 times a week
- The Ordinary - 7% glycolic acid peel
- Bubble - AHA/BHA - 10-15 minutes good for sensitive skin because of glucanolactone
3. Mists - for acne prone or with dry skin
- Tower 28 - Hypochlorous acid spray. Minimize bacteria, can be apploed on masks or headphones if it causes u breakouts
- Glycerin-based and rosewater mist
4. Serum - problem-focused
-Glossier - Oily and acne prone skin; Niacinamide and Zinc
- Arnica Rolling serum (Pillowtalkderm) - redness and puffiness
- Timeless 10% or 20% ascorbic acid - vitamin C
5. Retinol
-Glossier - 3 nights a week then if good, 4 times. Very lighy
- Elf Skin - stronger, almost as effective as tretinoin but not as irritating. This is good, can also serve as an eyecream
6. Eyecream - no need for something specific
- use vaseline if u need to lock in moisture but this is contraindicated for persons with millia under the eyes
7. Moisturizer - tailor to climate
- dryer - use hydrating moisturizers
- Vitamin C Moisturizer (pillowtalkderm) - lightweight moisturizer - need more if climate is dryer
- byoma - lightweight gel moisturizer - like a hybrid moisturizer and serum
8. SUNSCREEN!!
- La Roche-Posay
- Super Goop(?) - need spf 50
- Lura Mercier - can be used a smakeup base, spf 25
-Super Goop glow screen - can be used as higlight but can feel burning in the eyes
Just turned 20 yesterday and after spending my teens neglecting my poor skin, I'm ready to show it some love ❤
Anyone else in their twenties who can't afford 50 different skincare products? Lmao
Meeee!!!😂 Trust me in my country is almost imposible, but let me tell you one thing: money comes back, collagen doesn't. I work my ass off but always save money for skincare, I've been doing it since a year ago and trust me it worth it, my skin looks beautiful, I'm 27 years old and people always think I'm 20 😊. PS: I only use 4 in the morning products plus Retinol 5 times a week always at night
you only need 3 things. cleanser, moisturizer and sunscreen. the rest of it is optional and depends on the person's specific skin issues. but as long as you cleanse, moisturize and protect you should be fine.
26yo here. started to take my skincare seriously after finding your channel a few months ago.
i'm super dry and i live in the desert. plus having sensitive skin, being acne prone AND an almost nonexistent skin barrier after years of negligence... it has not been easy but you've been an absolute light for me.
thank you so much for putting so much love and care on your videos, and sharing all your expertise with us 💖
please try the cetaphil gentle clearing BPO cleanser for your dry skin if you’re going the benzoyl peroxide route! i use this and it’s wayyyyy less drying than the panoxyl. it’s had a huge effect on my acne! i’m obsessed(:
@@kenziedicken9512 cetaphil and cerave both burrrnnnn my skin, but thank you! i use differin for acne and the only cleanser my skin likes is laroche posay lipikar! i love it
Can we get a skincare in our 30s???? Because I love this!!
It's on my channel! 🫶
You’re the best! You really make it simple and I love it.
This was so helpful! I'd love to see a video on post-pill acne as well!
Thank you Dr. Idriss! Love how you casually dropped your brand winning an award! You are a big inspiration to me as a current med student :)
Took very diligent notes throughout the video, this gives me so much to go on and thank you for the educational videos I really needed someone to sit me down and explain what the hell I'm doing as a 27 yr old woman who has been in and out of skincare routines since she was 15, but now I have a great baseline!
I am 32 and still have acnee and hyperpigmentation and oily skin. I cannot remember to not have acnee, and of course that no one ever told me to not to touch them and how to take care of them. I started to build a skincare routine in my late 20s,and also then i started to wear sunscreen. A long time i had no acces to information but thankfully now i am taking care of my skin and i wear sunscreen all day every day even if i don't leave the house.
In my country i have no dermatologists like you,so all of the info that i learned and learning are from the few people online that i trust, you are one of them. Thank you ❤
I love your videos, intelligence, and energy!💜
Thank you Dr. Shereene. You the best. ❤ Cannot wait for next Saturday. ❤
I ve been waiting for this my whole life! Perfect timing!🎉
Hey I’m 20 and I’ve been waiting for a video like this from you.
Dr. Idriss, where were you 10 years ago!
But even though I'm not the target audience for this video I can't help but watch it because I love how informative, educational, and - importantly - entertaining your content is. Thank you for spending your 20s in the library!
Me too, I am 39 and I very much enjoyed this video.
I like how you’re so proud about the products you’ve made. More power to you! Who run the world? GIRLS 🌟💃🏻
I’m 26 years young and I am a carpenter. I work outside in the blazing sun all summer. I never wore gloves or sunscreen or even a big enough hat to protect my face from the sun, I literally never cared and thought sunscreen was bad for you (hippy step mom). I already have visible fine lines under my eyes along my optical bone. Along with deeper lines on my forehead and in between my eye brows (the wtf face wrinkle). I have minor acne break outs pretty much all the time on all parts of my face. I am so grateful for you!!! I found you a couple months ago and I absolutely love and appreciate your message so much. You make things simple, and you have an amazing sense of humour!
Hi doctor! I love your Pillow talk every Saturday! Thank you for sharing, and I also used to study 12 hours a day in doctoral school.
Already feeling a difference by switching my cleanser to vanicream, thank you so much!
Me in my 40’s totally invested in this video! ❤
Obsessed with these pillotalks and love learning from you Dr Idriss! 🙏💕✨
Thank you Dr. Idriss 💕 through your channel, I was encouraged to simplify my routines and my 8-10 step routines are minimised to 1. Cleanser 2. Moisturiser 3.Azaleic Acid 4. Sunscreen! & my skin feels its best. Better than ever ✨ hydrated and smooth
Learning to read the ingredients with an open eye chnaged everthing
Good morning! I’m your new fan!!! Love your videos! I purchased couple of your products and can’t wait for this shipment ❤️❤️
you go straight to the point! loveeee. tysm❤
Hello Dr. Idriss, I'm going to forward your video to my 25 yr old daughter who is in Medical School 😊 however I got her in the habit of skincare in her teens, now she does exactly what you just advised! Her sunscreen of choice is Supergoop, Unseen (won't use anything else). I too spent 100s of hrs in the library during the pharmacy school - such a little nerd I was lol. 🙏❤
I was waiting for this video for a long time!! Thank you 😍😍
🙌🙌
I absolutely love your videos. Thank you for all your knowledge
I LEARNED SO MUCH ❤❤❤❤❤ THANK YOUUUUUU
why does no one talk about acne in your late 20s!! I used to never break out and now i get pimples every month :(((
Also, I love the emphasis on the climate. I don't see many derms talking about that.
I'm 57 AND I still love to hear your stream no matter what 😂🎉
Thank you so much!!! This helped me so much!!
Thank god i got about another 2 years of my 20s. Enough time to glow coming into my 30s.
Thank you so much for this Dr. Shereene. I've been working on building a solid skincare routine addressing my hormonal acne and this has enlightened me about a lot of things. ❤
I love your videos, they are very helpful!!
I hope you will ship to Europe someday because I really want to try your products.
You are so amazing!!! Thank You for sharing so many informations:)) it helps a lot :)
Im 28 so this stuff is great to learn in my 20s!
Thank you for this amazing night routine
Extremely useful i just needed that ❤❤❤❤
So glad that was helpful! 🙌
Thank you so much doctor we really appreciate you ❤
Was so waiting for this . thank you so much for this Dr. Idriss
Please do one for young teens!!
21 years old here. Just added Vitamin C into my skincare routine, now just have retinol to go :)
Watching this as a pharmacy student taking notes
Hi Dr. Idriss. Thank you for the video it has really helped me. Can you please discuss pores on the skin please.
YOU ARE EXXTREMELY BEAUTIFUL
thank you doc!
After neglect my skin in my mid 20s, fortunately I found your channel dr idris, forever be grateful for my best skin ever 😊
Hello Dr.Idriss. Hope your day is good. Could you talk about skincare and more mature skin, and some basic treatments in office. I don’t have 50 years old but I do research for my mum. Thank you:)
Was hoping you'd talk more about sulfur cleanser, & how sulfur works in helpung skin. Its an ingredient I havent heard too much about, & dont see being used by many.
Thank you!!
Can you please talk about the in office treatment options for broken capillaries on the face caused by popping pimples and waxing?
Can you make a video for a skincare routine for teenagers?
Hello, I'm new to your channel, and I m binge watching your videos. I would appreciate if you did a video on brightening eye creams. Thank you!!
🌺🌺🌺🌼🌼🌼
Thank you 😊
can you PLEASE make an in depth video about combination skin 😭😭 idk how much to exfoliate or how to target my acne without inflaming my whole face or what moisturizer won’t peel but will actually moisturize me. it’s so hard 😭😭😭
Having sensitive acne prone skin is a nightmare. All I can suggest is to be selective about targeting the acne and otherwise use products to calm, hydrate, and support your skin barrier. Maybe use your face wash to target the acne, as it’ll only be a few minutes contact time. The Kate Somerville “Eradikate” one she showed in this video is actually pretty ideal for sensitive acne prone skin, as sulphur is one of the least irritating things you can use for acne and it also contains oat to soothe. Another good one is Versed’s “Keep the Peace” cleanser, as it contains 1.5% salicylic acid, but also contains blue tansy (same active as chamomile) to calm. Both cleansers are creamy and non-drying.
As for what to leave on your skin to target acne? Azelaic acid might be your best bet, as it’s also a treatment for rosacea, so pretty much designed to help reduce redness and inflammation, along with doing a pretty good job of fighting bacteria. The hypochlorous acid spray she showed can also be used as a toning mist to reduce bacteria without being too harsh.
With everything else, I’d just focus on being gentle and kind to your skin for now. Aloe vera, ceramides, oat, centella, and blue tansy are your friend. And don’t be afraid to use facial oils, as there’s a theory that by applying oil yourself, you’re beating your skin to it and so it tricks it into not producing as much sebum. Some oils to try might be The Ordinary’s sea buckthorn oil (can reduce inflammation) or oat/ceramide facial oils, such as Pacifica’s “Vegan Ceramide Face Oil” or Kinship’s “Oat Ceramide Relief Oil”. You don’t need to use a crazy amount, we’re talking like a drop or two and you can mix it in with your moisturiser (otherwise use as the last step at night). And remember that anything you use, you don’t need to use on your whole face. If your cheeks are dry, you could just oil your cheeks and leave the rest of your face, for example. With any luck, the oil should absorb and not feel greasy.
If the irritation calms down after all this, you could consider trying to introduce things like vitamin C and retinoids, but wait for things to calm down first. AHAs may never be your friend and aren’t the best for treating acne anyway, they’re more for helping with acne scars and boosting collagen, but retinoids can help with those anyway, along with treating acne, without the same level of irritation. Try to resist the urge to rush to that point and just focus on calming your skin down for now, though. Maybe in a few months, everything will have calmed down and you can tiptoe in with the other stuff. And don’t feel the need to go overkill on the suggested ingredients either. As long as the ingredient is in one product, it doesn’t need to be in every product you use. Like, probably best not to buy the whole line of a particular range if all the products contain pretty much the same active ingredients. If you use a salicylic acid face wash, you don’t also need a salicylic acid serum, for example. Hope this helps🤞🏻
What happens at 60?🤔 My skin on chin and forehead; they are thankful to Dr. Idriss❤️💋❤️ I need you and appreciate your effort ❤️
Gah I love your energy. Thank you!
I don't know if you'll read this, but for someone who lives in the middle east, most of these products are not available for me, but we have access to Korean skin care products so if you can do a video on Korean skincare products that would be super helpful! thank you
Hello! I enjoy every of your videos and learn a lot from it. I would like to see a video about eczema on scalp. Shampoos or serums you recommend for it. I live in Denmark and here doctors are a bit different then in USA. ❤❤
Please kindly make a video targeting on dark lip /pigmentation on lip and how to reduce it
Thank you 🩵
Me at 32 still watching this
I feel seen
I would like to get a video on various skin treatment like hydra facials, laser and botox
Dr Shereene, please cover the patented version of Bakuchiol Sytenol A.
The scientific data is exceptionally exciting and promising for anti-aging! ❤
i just turned 20 so this is perfect
23 and although i do take care of my skin i have to admit i am not consistent with sunscreen at all which is probably the most important
I'm almost 24 and I just started using skin care products I use moisturizer, sunscreen and cleanser I plan on getting vitamin c serum I also have acne traces
Please make a video about growth factors. My Derm told me not to use them as I’ve had melanoma, but I would like to know what to look for in products to avoid this.
so trueeee about the environment because i had to change my entire routine when i moved back home frm university.
29 year old dry skin living in Utah. 😅 Can't wait to see what I learn from this
I love your videos and the knowledge you share. I would love a video for 30's compromised oily skin after using too many acids. Also....you're arnica roller has been sold out and unavailable for months. Do you have a date as to when it will be restocked and available?
Thank you,
Luke
I've just seen the arnica serum roller is now available. Can you please start international shipping as I am based in London, England. Thank you
Yessss. I’m currently 25 years old, and I only started getting acne a few weeks/months before I turned 25. I’m hoping maybe it’s an expired product, because I never had acne as a teenager. :’) I’ve always had normal-type skin.
I would love to see you but I know the waiting is really long. Would you be able to make a video for skin with after acne skin. I had cystic acne and I have many scars that left the indented scars in the skin. Mostly in my chicks and jawline. What would you recommend for smoothing it out? Thank you 🌸🌸🌸
Would love if you could make a video on what to do for super crepe neck if you can’t afford a procedure 🙁
And also is it possible to have great skin in your 50’s if you are just now starting to take care of your skin, can you repair damage this late in life? ❤
Thank you so much for this video! I was looking for a beginner's guide to skincare and this was really helpful. I was wondering how best to incorporate a multivitamin face oil into my routine? Ithas vitamins A, D, E, & F. My current routine is just cleanser and almond oil as moisturiser since I have relatively acne free skin and I'm 23 living in a humid, polluted region.
Dr idriss do videos for skin care according to what city you live in, and pick capitals. For example new Delhi….
i have so many skin problems that are equally bad i don’t even know what to prioritize. active acne and clogged pores, bad scars and wrinkles from years of skin picking, PIH and PIE, dryness, really thin skin around my eyes causing terrible dark circles, fine lines over the entire surface of my skin that are rapidly getting deeper, eyelid drooping/sagging, volume loss especially in my lips cheeks and temples, and honest to god jowls. on top of that serious hair thinning and a receding hairline, dry, loose, crepey skin on much of my body, and all-over stretch marks. i’m 21 and live a decently healthy lifestyle, just cursed with terribly unlucky genetics. and in no way can i afford to address all of these problems. it’s unbelievably depressing to look so rough at what should be the peak of my youth. i look easily 30 and i know i will age poorly even with all the best interventions i can afford.
I appreciate your knowledge alot!
Could you take a look at the new Paula's choice 25% vitamin C + Glutathione clinical serum? I'd love to hear your thoughts 🙏
Please make a video on hyper pigmentation around the mouth for us brown girlies! I live in a VERy suuny country and I haven't been wearing sunscreen for YEARS! Now I have dark smile lines and a lot of sun damage. Please help!!😅
I am turning 22 and I am really feeling the hormonal shifts. I thought I would feel 18 forever lol. Just adapting to the changes!
Dr. Idriss can you make this video with Korean skin care? Please
hello, thank you for being kind to us, your Nerds
Please start shipping to the uk 😢
Firstly, thank you - it's a real pleasure as always to follow you and your videos :)
I'm a junior doctor, working as a GP in Scandinavia and I get many questions about general skin care from younger women, primarily with a focus on anti-ageing. Seeing that it's hard to get a dermatology appointment for that kind of stuff, I'm doing the best I can and I'm using your lovely videos as an inspiration ! :)
Do you have any advice regarding an easy, budget-friendly 2 step skin rutine with a focus on anti-aging available in Europe?
In the perfect world, maybe a moisturizing cream with spf + ascorbic acid and a stronger retionol (possibly with niacinamide) for advanced users (= if you would like to advance from cerave resurfacing retinol) ?
Best wish and merry christmas
The young Scandinavian doc.
Can you give your ideas and thoughts on the serums from timeless for over 55?
Hey!, I'm 17 and i have got white heads on my chin same as u said for urs in ur 20's also some weird hyperpigmentation ( multiple super tiny pimples on my left cheek below, it is dark then my real skin colour which is more yellowish considered brown in general) i've been getting so irritated as everyone keeps pointing out and i get reminded seeing ur vids now i know what to do and why it happened altho I'm from india can't prolly buy ur products but i watched or other video regarding skincare in which u mentioned differnt types of acids for different skin tones requires in cleanser, moisture and sunscreen.
I never used sunscreen n now i can see my results🤡🥲.
so from now i will go thru the ingredients and buy something like that in india🐬
Thankyou for ur vids
Hi Shereene, so what about substituting the cleanser with a soap made for face? Like those soaps made with natural ingredients.
Hello, Dr. Idriss! I hope you can help me. I'm 37 and I have crepey skin on my cheeks and it makes me look a lot older. :((( Is it possible to reverse that? Maybe you can recommend some products and a routine. A video about this would be really helpful. Thank you for everything you teach us! ❤
The beauty industry is brutal and immortal. My mother used to be a beautician and she told me to never go into a beauty salon unless I wanted my hair trimmed and only take skincare recommendations from a dermatologist and nobody else. She told me about the products and chemicals and how they do literally nothing other than massage your face with harmful products. And I've seen women spend hours and spend an insane amount of money getting their hair and face done only to get heavy breakouts a few days later and they go back to the salon for cleaning and facial and the loop just goes on and on and now they regret because they have permanent pigmentation on their face because of that
hello.... a kind and humble request... Can u make this same video but with a twist i.e. ur version of skincare for ur 20's but sharing indian pharmacy products. 🙏
Your accent is really nice
I'm 21 i did not have much acne on my teen years now i do but my guess probably is because i moved from a dry climate all-year-round to a really humid summer place.
Talking about retinoids, my derm prescribed me tretinoin 0.025% last year and i have been back and forth with it cause i had my skin barrier sensitized this year and lots of breakouts on my cheeks so i stopped every thing i was using just keeping the big 3 and i found out my hair cream was the one problem.
I wanted to start again the process but i was pelling bad and having breakouts at the same time. Now I'm increasing the frecuency without problem using a buffer cream bellow and having stoped exfoliating completely. I still have breakouts but normal skin in general
Hi Dr. Idriss! I’m an Arab American medical student and I love seeing your videos because they’re very inspirational to me. Are you Arab American as well? I just assumed from the name but I wanted to ask. Love your content.
Make a video for early 30s please
Thank you! Could you talk about vitamin B12 excess causing acne?
Hi Dr. Shereene! I am from the Philippines. The
vast majority of people's skin tone here is on
the darker side. Unfortunately, we still have the
mentality that white skin is more beautiful.
Hence, a lot of local brands come up with
glutathione products. Would love to know the
science behind it, if it is safe and effective. If
so, please let us know your recommendations. I
know that this isn't a major concern for most of
your followers but it'd be great if you could
enlighten us about this. Thank you!
