Man, I wish I would have seen this video last week. I thought I could just stamp around it on both sides and meet up on the other side. Nope. Thanks for all the videos to help us along on our leathercrafting journey!
Mr. Gonzales, thank you for this very detailed and thorough video. However, I wanted to specifically thank you for the "corner/corner & meet in the middle" tip, that was very useful information. Especially since I just entered the wonderful world of leather.
Perfect this video helped me so much! I've done the basket stamp by itself, and a customer wanted a brand in the middle, and I had no clue how to stamp it nicely. Thank you!!
You make it so simple to do. But ! It takes time and a lot of patience. Believe me. Some times I end up with high tide coming in. This is a great learning video. Thank you 😅
Your skills and experience are amazing, Mr. Gonzales. Thank you. I like using stamps, but I struggle to keep them consistent and aligned. This is perhaps the best video I've seen on stamping in general, and I can see how it applies to many other patterns in addition to basket-stamps. It's a great help.
This is the fourth time I've watched this video Don and I think I got your trick down. Thanx so much for sharing. Hope all is well at your ranch. Be safe and healthy and pet the dog for me. Will be at the Kennedy in April so I'll be sure to stop. I'm gonna see Bruce Cheaney on way down also. Again, blessings on you and your family Don. Addios.
Thanks Don, that's really good information. I watch all of your videos. This will really help to improve my basket stamping. I'm doing one now with your wine rack that I downloaded on the bottom.
Don, you are awesome! I've watched this so many times! Thank you for making these and your other videos. I'm slowly (already sold some of my pieces) getting better! Thank you Don!
If you were to ask me what is my least favorite thing to do, the answer is "basket stamping," and I would ordinarily take a pass on doing something like this. Not anymore, thanks to you and this video. Thanks, Don.
Thank you for this video. I'm new to leather and tried the basket weave stamp for the first time this last weekend. The results were really sad. After watching your video I now understand a little bit more about how to place the stamp thank you
Great video. I use the same system pretty much. An unspoken secret is the quality of the basket stamp. Good quality basket stamps are so much easier to line up.
Thank you for all you share. I am brand new to leather crafting. When you put an image on the leather with a graphite pencil does the graphite make a mess on the leather? (Rookie question).
What is your preferred beveler when you get into the tight curve of the J? I would expect round, but it kinda looked like you were doing a different kind of technique with a concave beveler? Thanks!
Thanks again! Are you using a one pound maul for this work? I wonder if the leather stretch affects the alignment much? The lines are a great tip, I always get wandering stamps. Most tutorials only use the center line.
@@jessicayates5450 I know that trick but I'm too lazy to do it and I'm usually only tooling thin leather. Truth is, I'm just not very patient keeping things lined up which is why I liked the extra lines. I did get a lighter maul, though.
Muchas gracias por este tutorial.realmente este paso con un figura en medio a veces se complica la continuidad y el efecto final es de desprolijidad y le da mal aspecto a un trabajo que está genial.. Gracias
what about buying another stamp like that and cutting it half and beveling it so you can get the detail in the small places...you thin that would work?
I can confirm that you cannot "wrap" your basket stamp around the design and have it match up 🤣 I am in the middle of my first project and I butchered it but these videos are helping me with my next 🙂
This is priceless information. No kidding, I just had this same scenario and I did exactly what you said NOT to do! And guess what -it didn’t meet up at the end 😩. I had to do some finagling and thankfully it was for my mom and she thinks I’m Jim Linnell .... so... she’s crazy... Anyway, THANK YOU!!!
I can't for the life of me get my stamps to be aligned and straight..... It's infuriating. I give up. I have practiced for hours now, and it's like it gets worse the more I practice lol..... I just suck at this. What a waste of money on these tools.....
I have bittersweet memories of being chastised in drafting class for calling that a ruler instead of a scale... Haha ... But to be fair nobody except architects and engineers call it a scale.
Man, I wish I would have seen this video last week. I thought I could just stamp around it on both sides and meet up on the other side. Nope. Thanks for all the videos to help us along on our leathercrafting journey!
This video increased my confidence in being able to do a good job stamping basketweave by about 1000%
I just got my first basket stamp, thank you for teaching how to apply this stamp, very masterfully
You are absolutely the best leathercrafter on TH-cam. A true artist.
Agreed.

Don, your tooling is so impressive. The GOAT of tooling!

Perfect timing for this video. I will be Basket stamping for the first time on a gun holster. Thanks

That’s a fine video don
Thank you Professor Gonzales. You’ve helped me immensely.
Nice job. Thanks for the lesson!
How would you finish something like this? Could you do a two tone colour effect on it with antique and resolene to finish? Or something else?

Very helpful tutorial, thank you for your time to teach your great skills
Thank you for doing this video. I have a project coming up where I need to know how to basket stamp around something.
Andrew 🙂
Thanks Great tips, I struggle keeping them in line especially the Geometric ones little better on the basket weave. The tip will help me lots.
Приятно смотреть на работу мастера!
Good explain!
What tools did you use in this video, and where can people purchase them? 😊
Good job thankfully for all your heads up and tutorial information.
always like your videos. Very helpful.
Looks like You found most every angle in Your example. Thanks again. G-G.
With what tool did you smooth out the basket stamps marks on the brand? Thank you!
You always have great tips
Great video, as usual, Don! Thanks for sharing your masterful skills!
Hi don. How do people come up with brands? I’d love to have one but I don’t know where to start.
Hi Don,great tutorial. What leather are you using also what number stamp are you using and is it a Tandy one please?
Thank you. Very informative
Great video brother ! Thanks for learning me somethin' !!!
Thanks Don!
Great work! You make it look easy
Please could you let me know which stamp you are using thanks
Thanks again! Are you using a one pound maul for this work? I wonder if the leather stretch affects the alignment much? The lines are a great tip, I always get wandering stamps. Most tutorials only use the center line.
Are you lining the back with leather or using painter tape on the back of the leather to help with stretch?

What size blade do you use on your swivel knife? Looks like a Barry king, yes?
Thank you so much for the video. I'm still a noobie and every bit of info helps.

New Year wishes for 2020 Don may it be a kind one, what weight pounder do you use for this type of stamping?

Useful, thanks.
I don't know wtf a basket stamp is but it was satisfying to watch you complete the pattern lol

This has me thinking about cutting one end off of a stamp for those close spots...
Extremely new to leather crafting....about two weeks in. What tool are you using at the beginning of the video for cutting out your J
A swivel knife.
Stillnapie thanks. Just ordered one
What do you spray on your leather?
This was great! Thanks so much.
Great video, now I only have to find a place that sells good stamps. Once again, Thanks.
Thank you,I learned a lot!
The MASTER at work, thank you brother. GOD'S BLESSINGS BROTHER ✝️⚾ 🙃
Maravilloso video, muy claro y sencillo. Que bueno sería que las letras fueran en español y el habla en inglés
Do you wet your leather first?
Thanx
Thanks
Tank you Sir
Good!!
That actually is the brand of the friend of mine, haha!
THANK YOU :)

Dope!
Sir, that tool is called a scale, not a ruler. Thanks for the video..
I have bittersweet memories of being chastised in drafting class for calling that a ruler instead of a scale... Haha
... But to be fair nobody except architects and engineers call it a scale.
I know exactly what you are talking about lol
I need to know how to rub out small mistakes like you speak of.
