I learnt singing when I was a kid for about 5 years (Age 10-15). Right when I went through puberty, I discontinued my classes and stopped singing, which resulted in constraining my vocal chords. I used to hit high notes with ease back then. Right now I'm 24 and my voice cracks when I try to do so. How do I get to hit high notes again?
Thank you so much, used to sing a song which is done by a female singer originally, and I'm a guy, ik it's weird but i just like singing the song in the way they're composed. So, it was just that their were some high note in that song for long, where my voice always cracked, but it didn't crack this time after trying your exercise, that was really helpful, thanks again. 😇 And i felt less stress on my vocal cords while singing after this exercise.
More importantly is to do them correctly as demonstrated. If you do, even one - two times a day will be enough to experience success. But if it's wrong, 5 times a day will only reinforce the bad habits. Do them right and 2-3 times a day will be great!
Give yourself some time. Your voice is changing a little at this age. Not as much as the boys, but you are going through a smaller change in the vocal cords. You can get it.
On a good day I can sing...barely...a g5. But I would never use that in a song. Usable range for me....in the past I've done an audition with the high note being a Bb4. But just because I have some high notes while doing exercises doesn't mean I should be singing songs with those notes.
Never have I ever found a person who replies to all his comments like you even if it's a old video thanks for that and thank you for this video helped alot
@@PowerToSing thank you for replying I surely will practice it ........can u make a video on how to rap fast although I do try different tongue twisters daily and also try to sing other raps faster and it also helps thought but I want to learn more and take it to next level.......hope you can help.
@@ayushmansotra2661 I probably won't make one but you can get better and better by memorizing other's raps and doing those over and over again. It takes time and effort. But it's fun!
The way I learned to do this was to literally try and match Freddie Mercury in Bohemian Rhapsody the soft part. He does a really decent transition on the phrase "Mama, life had just begun" and comes back down evenly in the next line right around the words "thrown it all away". I feel Freddie over exaggerated the words in that area and does it later in the next verse which is easier to do because of the vowels he used. It's all over the place but the over exaggeration of the technique does help with this particular problem. Good video on explaining why it happens. And yes before learning to do this I was pushing the chest voice too high and it would crack. The problem I am actually trying to get rid of is a secondary voice on top of the smooth voice and although both are even I just don't like the sound of an underlying voice with behind the more prevalent voice, its like having a constant backup singer repeating everything I sing.
@@PowerToSing Like a lower sound and is easier to hear when using my head voice. It's almost like an underlying chest voice is still present with it. Its really strange.
@@PowerToSing yes it is still there doing that. I think what I am experiencing I identify as an underlying vocal fry giving a double effect because I am trying to override it with a softer voice. At least thats my assessment of it, but it may not be correct. Do you know if this can be corrected and if so how?
The larynx is coming up...chokes out the sound. Substitute what you are singing with a dopy gee, really doing it with a dumb sound. See if you can get the sound back. Then try it again with dopy or dumb sound as you do the words.
Back 6 years ago, I sing well, no cracking or whatever, but as I grow older My voice changed. I mean literally, I easily hurt my vocal cord whenever singing (even talking) even in just low note, there was also a time that I couldn’t talk anymore for half a day, now I can’t sing without straining and it saddens me.
That is the problem, I dont know any doctor for this kind of situation and if there are, probably they’ll be miles and miles away from where I live. And also, probably it will cost alot. 😔
@@kiezekayelatico3997 Maybe all those things are true. Unfortunately, you'll never really know for sure about your vocal cords until you get to the doctor. You should probably get vocal rest. See if not singing and reducing your speaking helps your voice. Once it's really feeling better, you've got to change the way you've been singing, or it the damage will return.
I'm a high baritone (or that's at least what my singing teacher has labeled me) and my voice usually cracks at A4 or Bb4. I hope that the exercise you showed in the video does in fact eliminate the cracking.
Hi Thomas: This is common for good tenors. You are bringing too much of the chest voice too high. You can do that because you are likely a tenor. If you can drop the weight of the chest voice sooner, you will make it through without cracking. This is always accompanied by the larynx coming up too high as well. Best of luck to you.
My range: C2-F5. Not bad, but it is what I do with the notes in between that really counts. I also have a problem with agility. Trills and slurs (coloratura) is a real struggle for me. Then again I think it often sounds awful in pop-music. Like they cant decide which note to hit.
My problem was that I COULD sing high, and then I was on a ventillator from Covid and now my voice cracks when I try any higher notes. Even doing that exercise at the end of the video is one that I used to do years ago but as I was doing it along with you, I could barely hit the high notes on the third scale you did (where you went up two semitones from the original key). If you have any help for Covid survivors who were on life support and a ventillator and now have bad muscle memory and recovering from collapsed lungs, I'd be grateful.
@@PowerToSing Yes I've been to an ENT and had extensive examinations. There is not scarring on the vocal cords themselves but there is an indentation next to the left cord where the intubation tube was pressing against for so long. Like where that cartilage is just in front and off to the side of the vocal cord. I have a picture of it if you have an email address where I can send it to you. Would that help to see it? Can I send it to you and you can tell me what you think? I've had one appointment at the Vanderbilt voice clinic and it was basic stuff - blowing bubbles into a water bottle through a straw type stuff. They were going to try and work around the injury since my vocal cords do seem to close OK. no nodules or anything on the cords themselves aside from that indentation from the intubation tube. But I can sing in my chest voice just fine. It's the cracking and broken voice when I reach a certain pitch which made me search YT and found your video.
@@SomebodyPickaName I don't need to see the picture. When they looked at your vocal cords as you were vocalizing, did they see anything that indicated any vocal cord paralysis as the cords vibrated? How old are you? Male or female?
@@PowerToSing no vocal cord paralysis - I'm male and 44. Their feeling was that I could work around the injury but our work was based on improving my lung capacity and strength - not focusing on voice cracking. It's my speaking voice too that is weak and raspy by the afternoon - it's pretty good in the morning when I wake up for the first few hours. It would be great if you could do a video on exercises for Covid survivors to get their musicle memory back since I think I've developed bad muscle memory when I learned to talk again.
@@SomebodyPickaName I'm not sure there is a way a general video would help. Each individual is so different with different needs and situations. Ideally I would like to work with some post covid patients first, before I make a video on recovering. If you want to schedule a lesson go here: www.powertosing.com/schedule-lesson/

OMG SAME...The cause of that is when you hit your puberty your voices changes😭
Alright bout to do it (after school of course)
I just want to hit the high note of Heart Attack Chorus 😭😂
This helps so much I can sing love is gone all the high notes
Awesome SWP!
Whats your highest head voice note? im also a bass and im just starting out so im wondering
On a good day I can sing...barely...a g5. But I would never use that in a song. Usable range for me....in the past I've done an audition with the high note being a Bb4. But just because I have some high notes while doing exercises doesn't mean I should be singing songs with those notes.
G#6
I can hit Lewis Capaldi someone you loved this is really worth it you need try at least one week and see the changes
i see... now i can sing take on me without my voice crackin
Yes!
This will help me with adzan! Thank you!
You are welcome!
I had a hard time making my lips position like that
Sometimes it takes some practice to get some of these things. At least it does for me!
Never have I ever found a person who replies to all his comments like you even if it's a old video thanks for that and thank you for this video helped alot
Thanks FC! I try and provide helpful comments for singers who sincerely want help. :)

I JUST FREAKING GASPED BRO I CAN HIT THE NOTE FOR MY PERFORMANCE NOW THANK YOU SO MUCH 😭😭😭
Fantastic!
2:23 I tried doing that but sir I am not able to produce sound and that much amount of air at the same time
It takes practice...but you can do it!
@@PowerToSing thank you 😌 that's what I am doing
wow your my new favourite youtube vocal coach
Awesome! Please share with your singing friends!
I'm here just to sing 'Bad Romance' properly
Go for it!
Interesting. I'm not sure what you mean exactly, by a secondary voice you hear while singing.
@@PowerToSing Like a lower sound and is easier to hear when using my head voice. It's almost like an underlying chest voice is still present with it. Its really strange.
@@evilcowboy Practice the same melody with [ae] as in "cat" on every note and do it firmly. Do you still hear that double sound?
@@PowerToSing yes it is still there doing that. I think what I am experiencing I identify as an underlying vocal fry giving a double effect because I am trying to override it with a softer voice.
At least thats my assessment of it, but it may not be correct.
Do you know if this can be corrected and if so how?
@@evilcowboy I would think so generally, But I would have to work with your voice for a few minutes at this point. Otherwise it's a complete guess.
My voice literally CUTS OUT in a high note like I go mute on that note WTF
The larynx is coming up...chokes out the sound. Substitute what you are singing with a dopy gee, really doing it with a dumb sound. See if you can get the sound back. Then try it again with dopy or dumb sound as you do the words.
@@PowerToSing thank u so muchh💜💜
Thanks, boss!
I always sing high notes but my voice will gone and back again and gone again..
Hi Kytt: How old are you?
Back 6 years ago, I sing well, no cracking or whatever, but as I grow older My voice changed. I mean literally, I easily hurt my vocal cord whenever singing (even talking) even in just low note, there was also a time that I couldn’t talk anymore for half a day, now I can’t sing without straining and it saddens me.
Have you seen an ENT Dr? If so what did he/she say about your vocal cords?
That is the problem, I dont know any doctor for this kind of situation and if there are, probably they’ll be miles and miles away from where I live. And also, probably it will cost alot. 😔
@@kiezekayelatico3997 Maybe all those things are true. Unfortunately, you'll never really know for sure about your vocal cords until you get to the doctor. You should probably get vocal rest. See if not singing and reducing your speaking helps your voice. Once it's really feeling better, you've got to change the way you've been singing, or it the damage will return.
0:49 me about to die on minecraft
hummm
Omgsh I can now sing Arianas songs without my voice cracking! Thank you so much Mr.
Fantastic!

thanks
I'm a high baritone (or that's at least what my singing teacher has labeled me) and my voice usually cracks at A4 or Bb4. I hope that the exercise you showed in the video does in fact eliminate the cracking.
Hi Thomas: This is common for good tenors. You are bringing too much of the chest voice too high. You can do that because you are likely a tenor. If you can drop the weight of the chest voice sooner, you will make it through without cracking. This is always accompanied by the larynx coming up too high as well. Best of luck to you.
@@PowerToSing Thanks for the answer. I'll try to use your tips.
@@thomast2k Your range sounds more like a Baritone. Could be a 2nd tenor.
@@ChuckGilmore Ok. So I'm a light baritone? Or maybe even baritenor?
@@thomast2k I don't know what a light baritone is. What ever you are, you may change over time. :)
I really wanna sound like The Weeknd LOLL
XD
My range: C2-F5. Not bad, but it is what I do with the notes in between that really counts. I also have a problem with agility. Trills and slurs (coloratura) is a real struggle for me. Then again I think it often sounds awful in pop-music. Like they cant decide which note to hit.
This video will help!
Huang Renjun definitely watched this after his from home voice crack
Nooo Wayne you are a life saver, I tried singing the bridge in Olivia's rodrigos song traitor,IT WORKED thank you so muchh
Glad it worked, but Nooo Wayne?
Indeed,it's a new word in the dictionary!!
@@officialfrootloops3301 Ohhhhhh! Got it!
Have you been to see an ENT Dr and had your vocal cords examined? If so, have your cord's been damaged?
