I'm making a couple of socks with this heel. It took a couple of attempts with frogging. But now I've got it! And I love love this heel. Thank you so much for this tutorial!!
Thank YOU! This yarn over short rows l didn't know! I love them and not only will give them a try but will knit them from now on every time! I'm so happy with it! I knit pretty fine socks withoute holes but l don't like the heel to knit. That will change now! Stay healthy and be blessed!
I love this video so much. I reference it every time that I need to do this technique. Couldn't have made my family Christmas stockings without it. Thanks so much for sharing
Very well made video. The best I found in explanation and demonstration, very useful. I have it bookmarked, will use it every time I need to make a sock! Thank you!
Thank you so much for this video. I’m a new sock knitter and I have been trying all the different heels to see which one works for me. This is, by far, the best one yet.
Hi and thank you for such a concise and clear tutorial on this method! I've never understood how yarn over short rows are done, but know I understand how it works. Well done! You're really pedagogical. 👍
Thank you so much for this tutorial especially the to about using the stitch marker to find the gap which has always been my nemesis with short row heels 😊
I used to do this heel when I first started knitting socks. Thanks so much for the clear instructions. I think I'll use this for my sock I'm knitting now.
I love this tutorial , a I've been learning several different short heels, this seems like one of the easiest. However even when I am following it completely, I keep getting gaps or holes in the stitches when you're close the gaps, especially on the p2tog side.
As easy as this short row method is, it doesn't create the neatest diagonal "seams". For that, Japanese or pinned short rows are the way to go in my opinion, th-cam.com/video/pU9fgOPsbgA/w-d-xo.html.
This looks like one of the easiest short row heels. My question for you: Are there any disadvantages to using this type of heel versus the twin stitch or German short row methods? Thanks so much!
Thank you for the very clear tutorial for this heel. However I end up with one less stitch on each needle than I started with. Have you any idea what I may be doing wrong?
I was wondering why you didn't slip the knit stitch and twist the 2nd stitch on the very last set of stitches that made up the decrease part of the foot. Instead you just knitted the two of them together. why not do all of them like that ?
I’ve done this short row several times and when you get to the last gap on each side and follow the directions the last ing the gap leaves a hole. Also the heel is short by 2 stitches. What did I do wrong?
It's hard to say without actually seeing your work. It sounds like somehow instead of closing the last gap on each side you are doing an unnecessary decrease on each side. That could create gaps at the sides and would explain why you are 2 sts short.
@@thechillydog I did exactly what you did in the video. My work looks the same when I got down to the last 2 stitches. The stitch that was never worked on the left side of the heel is loose and that creates a hole.
@@bevmayo1011 I figured out that I started the second set of short rows too soon, so I decreased 2 extra times. But I can’t figure out how to avoid a hole when doing the last decreases. The side when I did the last decrease on the left side and continued to the instep is where the hole formed.
Hello I lire your tuto but I am french and don't understand all. That possible have your tuto White in french? Thank you. Sorry for my english Cordialement Babeth
The pattern for the socks shown in the video (which includes instructions for the heel, of course) can be found in my pattern shop at shop.thechillydog.com/products/azalea-socks-knitting-pattern-pdf?TCDYT. I also have a general photo tutorial of the process with instructions on my blog at www.thechillydog.com/2016/11/knitting-tutorial-yarn-over-short-row.html?TCDYT.
Thanks for an interesting video. I’ve watched your Japanese/pinned short row heel and the yarn over short row heel videos. Which do you prefer for the better looking heel? I’ve tried German short rows but end up with holes the sides. I just subscribed. You have a lot of tips that I need to learn!
I think the Japanese/pinned method creates the neatest short row heels. I use shadow wrapped short rows a lot in my patterns because it gives a good result and you don't need all the stitch markers. Thanks for subscribing and happy knitting.
?? - I have 24 sts, so I’m doing 7 short rows on each end and 10 sts in the middle. Do you count the first slipped st as part of your 7 sts? Or you do 7 yo’s on each side? Thx
I usually think it's easiest to count the gaps on each side because they are easy-to-see landmarks. There's a slipped stitch on one side of each gap and a YO on the other.
Oops. Nevermind. Just found it on your site. I jumped on it and purchased w/o evaluating the degree to which it may be beyond my skill set, as I’ve nit knit socks before - sweaters and scarves only 😳
I was just telling one of my friends yesterday that I really hate putting "difficulty" levels on patterns because it can make people give up on themselves before they even start a project. If you can knit a sweater, you can knit socks.
I like your patterns and have purchased several. When I get confused about something and can go look it over and see what I am doing wrong. It not a waste of money buying expensive yarns usually ends up back of the closet with needles and all the other stuff where my cat make his bed
Your comment means a lot to me because that's exactly why I do what I do. I want my customers/subscribers to be able to stitch with confidence. Nice yarn should be on your needles making nice things, not in the closet. Sorry kitty 😸!
Thanks!
You are a phenomenal teacher, thank you so much for this video! I can't believe youtube is free!

Just finished the YO short row, love the look and no holes or gaps! Thank you for taking this from start to finish.
Easy to follow my first time of trying. Clear instructions helped.
Thank you for the clear instructions! I tried just about every heel out there, but this one really worked for me. You are an excellent teacher.💗
I love how this version of a heel looks like. Your tutorial is outstanding. So clear and easy to understand. Thank you.
Perfect. Thank you for clear, concise directions.

Great instructions, great teacher.
This looks like one of the easiest short row heels. My question for you: Are there any disadvantages to using this type of heel versus the twin stitch or German short row methods? Thanks so much!
It creates a slightly different looking diagonal, but all of the short tow turning stitches create a fairly comparable heel.
@@thechillydog Thank you!
Awesome 👍🏾 thank you 🌻❤️
Thank you for the very clear tutorial for this heel. However I end up with one less stitch on each needle than I started with. Have you any idea what I may be doing wrong?
I have same problem. Love the instructions, very clear but don’t know what I’m doing 😑 I began with 32 stitches and end up with 30😢
Hi love that tutorial. So easy to understand. Can you make one for the toes please x
Thank you for this tutorial, I do not need to look any further.
Closing the last gap at the end of each side of the heel leaves a hole
I wrap the first and last stitch from the instep on the last row of my heel. Closes the hole right up. I do
Thank you! Very helpful and clear💚
I love the yarn you are using
The color was really fun to work with.
Hi thanks 😊 for the video just wondering what size needles are u working with
Hi, Mari. I don't have the pattern in front of me right now, but I'm pretty sure I used 2.75 mm needles.
I was wondering why you didn't slip the knit stitch and twist the 2nd stitch on the very last set of stitches that made up the decrease part of the foot. Instead you just knitted the two of them together. why not do all of them like that ?
Thank you for making so easy with visuals!
Cute pattern!
Thank you.

Sorry. I only speak English and a little bit of Spanish, so I am unable to create tutorials in other languages.
Why would anyone do any other method??? Thank you!!!
love this video .where can i find the written instructions for this heel?

I really want to try this ... heels bring out fear in me .. so much so I have not completed socks -- ever
Helen Caudill you're not alone. Heel shaping looks like some sort of magic, but it's nothing you can't handle.
Wow confusing can't see what ur doing try watching Susan Bryant videos
