The Solis has a PLASTIC group head, so putting the portafilter in the group head does NOT warm it up, vs. other machines with a metal group head under a boiler. So, I warm my portafilter/basket by pulling a double shot of just hot water through an empty portafilter. You can do two pulls if you want a hotter portafilter/basket. I found the smooth steam knob to be slippery, if I have damp fingers. I put a rubber band on the knob, and that gives me something to firmly grab onto, even with damp fingers.
I was hoping you'd show the pull time on the shot. I got one of these and it really blasts the water through. Something like 40g from 18g in double, unpressurized basket in about 10 seconds (from when it first comes out), even when the pressure appears normal-to-high, around 9-12 bars. My shots seem to be sour because of these. I keep getting a rather deep crater in the same exact spots on the puck, so wondering if my machine has an issue.
I replaced the shower screen with an IMS screen, and that seems to have solved or reduced the cratering from the water hitting the coffee. Caution, the group head is made of PLASTIC, so when you screw the new shower screen in, be CAREFUL to not strip the screw.
Grind finer, check your amount and tamping pressure. I’m getting closer to dialing mine in but full disclosure: I bought a naked portafilter, an IMS 18-22g precision basket, and made a homemade needle dispersement tool. I had a lot of failed shots before those additions.
@@kt9495 im using a Breville SMART Grinder Pro. Ive reached up to a setting of 2 but ive only made itup to 6bars. I have watched somewhere that i can still calibrate the physical burr setting sin my grinder to extend the grind settign range. hope it helps too
With the pressurized single basket, my pressure is about 6 bars. With a NON-pressurized single basket, my pressure is up between 10 and 13 bars. - As said by others, grind finer and TAMP.

Is the casing really plastic on this colored version? From Tom's review, th-cam.com/video/2w81e_nG0JQ/w-d-xo.html, it looks metallic but coated
lovely review. I appriciate the variables addressed and the demo!! cheers. I just got one myself. :)
Can you remove the base so to fit a taller cup/glass under?

I get the same crater in my puck, going to try a puck screen.
Grind finer.
@@idjekyll Can’t go finer or there’s too much pressure
I dont look to his videos anymore. Too supervicial and uncritical. Indeed ...temerature fall, passtrough time, temp of espresso etc...

Great Video. Thanks for sharing 👍
Hi! Can I check what's the ratio of milk to espresso here?
i have trouble getting my pressure beyond 4bars. any tips?

@@ddiesel1836 No problem and good luck! I’ve had to play with the grind settings quite a bit. My kids got me a Zwilling so I can’t help ya there.
